Welcome back! Hope you like this chapter!
Lia ducked away from a bullet and hid behind a wall. "I thought you said this was just a drug deal." She complained.
"Sorry, but how was I supposed to know they'd have guns?" Kate commented through the earpiece. Not actual earpieces, no, they were on a budget. It was really just bluetooth headphones, but it worked well enough for their nightly activities.
Lia sighed. "Just cover me." She waited until there was a pause in the shooting, likely refilling their guns, and then darted out. She immediately tore the gun out of the first man's hands while knocking him off his feet into the guy behind him.
An arrow cut through the air beside her and putty covered the third man, sticking him to the wall. Another arrow pinned a man's hand to the wall as he tried to shoot Lia.
Lia grinned and took out the last man, throwing him off balance and knocking him out. She stole his gun and took the ones from the other men. Last, she took the duffle bags from the men.
"They might have other supplies, I'll search them. You drop off the drugs at the station." Kate's voice said in her ear.
"Got it. Be back in 30 or I'll look for you. Flare if you need help." Lia said, tucking the guns into one of the duffle bags, keeping one for herself. She swung the bags over her shoulder, and brought out her own bow, which expanded as soon as it was let out of its confinement. Taking a grappling arrow, she shot it to the roof and held on as she was yanked up.
Getting to the station was pretty quick, jumping from roof to roof or balcony. In the past few months, the twins had perfected moving around the city. They had taken inspiration from Spider-man and his webs, using suction arrows that detached when controlled to.
Lia broke into the back of the station, avoiding all cameras and tossing the duffle bags into an abandoned detective's office.
Kate and Lia had been doing vigilante work for the past few months. They'd caught people and stopped drug deals. But they weren't law enforcement. So they dropped off the worst people and the drugs. They'de attempted to just throw it away, in the beginning and to let the people go with a warning, but it wasn't working for them, so they changed.
After The Snap, the world had been in chaos. Buildings were destroyed, people were hurt, destruction was everywhere, and criminals ran rampant. The people had been hopeful that everything would be corrected, but that soon faded.
Everyone thought that the heroes would come and help repair what was left of the world. Lia had been among them, looking towards the internet in hopes of seeing some message.
One month later, Lia's hope was shattered.
No heroes were going to come and make things perfect again. There was no magical solution to fix this. So Lia and Kate survived how they could and helped people during the nights when they could.
Once Lia had closed the window and made everything look exactly as it was before, she took a scenic route back to the apartment, making sure she couldn't be followed. She reached the apartment at the same time as Kate. Both girls entered the window from the fire escape.
"Anything fun you found?" Lia asked, taking off her mask and quiver. She removed the holsters and other weapons from her. Kate did the same beside her, throwing off her hood and mask along with weapons.
Neither one of them had an actual combat suit, so they usually just used their archery suits, which worked well enough. Kate's was purple while Lia had scarlet.
"A few hundred dollars, a taser, another gun, and a few knives." Kate listed off, putting them all out in a row.
"Perfect!" Lia picked up one of the knives. It was a good weight and pretty balanced. "I'll take the knives, we'll put the money to use, and you can decide what to do with the rest. I already have a gun from them."
Kate nodded then perked up. "Hey, do you want to watch a movie? I've heard of this new one that came out and it's on Netflix!"
Lia laughed. Even after the snap, Kate was still cheerful and, though it wasn't as much, hopeful. "Sure. You set up the movie, I'll put this stuff away."
After the snap, Lia and Kate had needed to learn to live on their own. Most of the people they were close to were snapped away. Their friends, even their mother and step-father.
