I know what you're thinking and, no, this chapter isn't a part of the story. This chapter, though, will be showing you things that have been excluded and/or changed. But, first things first, let's start off with some fun facts, shall we?
Fun Facts
The chapter title "The Legend of Spyro: Mergence"
Mergence was actually borrowed from another (never finished) trilogy of mine. In book 1, which was just titled "Mergence", I fell though a portal, blacked out, and became a wolf. Sound familiar?
The character Krystal
Like previously stated, Krystal was another concept that was borrowed from another trilogy, "Mergence".
The names: Ghost, Cloud, Haze
The three original choices for Trent's dragon name (all based on his element). Not long after selecting the three, I quickly decided on Haze only because I thought it had a nice ring to it. And knowing how I don't like to discard, I decided to take the other two names and create characters for them.
Excluded or Changes made to the story
- Originally in the chapter "Secrets Revealed", I was going to have Ghost just reveal to everyone that Haze was human and have everyone be like (:O). The idea was quickly scrapped, though, because I found it difficult to make the story go in the direction I wanted afterwards, as well as finding it difficult to possibly give 30 characters different reactions.
- Originally in the chapter "The Dark Master", I planned for the guardians to fall to Malefor (RIP). This was scrapped due to the fact that I couldn't find a way to make it work smoothly.
- In "Calm before The Storm", Ghost was never originally going to die. His death was actually a last minute decision which I thought put a nice twist on the story.
- Scorch's original name was actually "Match", but I changed it on the account that every time I said "Match" I kept being reminded of Flame.
- Trent's poison element was a last minute change. Originally, I was going to give him Earth element but I quickly realized that it was going to make difficult a chapter that I was planning for a future book.
- Haze's right eye is something that is currently going back and forth. Originally it was to be fixed before he was sent back to the human world the first time, but I scrapped the idea because it interfered with the later chapter "The Dark Master". In "Calm before The Storm" I've left a little loop hole that will let it go either way until I make a final decision.
"Please be aware that, even though your eye has gained back vision, it will still take a few weeks for it to fully heal. If you strain it now, that eye will become permanently blind," warned the mole.
