Yakushima Forest, Japan, 1336
Eleven figures stand in a clearing in the forest. Each carried a weapon and dressed as a soldier, each in different colors. The trees swayed as the wind carried a stillness and silence around the group. Each figure eyed each other looking for signs of hostility as they waited. A twelfth figure broke through the dense brush around the clearing in the clothing of a simple farmer. The figure paused as the other figures turned to him. The new figure had on a straw hat with green hair poking out from under and his emerald eyes swept across the clearing, studying each figure, his eyes lingering on two blonds slightly longer than the others.
The green-haired figure stood up and straightened himself before opening his mouth. "I see I'm the last one here."
The second blond he had lingered on, one cloaked in ashen yellow armor, spoke up. "By a fucking long shot, the twins beat you by 20 minutes." Two figures, one in red and the other in silver, each welding a kanabo, waved. "And what's with the farmer getup?"
The green-haired man smirked as a smoke of the same color swirled up from his feet, completely concealing him and dispersing moments later. The man was now in similar clothing to everyone else, but he was in green. He had a katana and a wakizashi at his side. "Ashikaga Takauji's forces blocked my path. I had to sneak through as a simple rice farmer."
In a combination of red and white, one of the male figures spoke up. "He's getting more aggressive as of late. Do you think he's going to make a play at the Emperor?"
The one next to him a male in red and purple, his face hidden, nodded. "That would be the most logical conclusion. There are some, him included, that feel like the Emperor is weak."
The only other female; dressed in black armor raised a question. "Are we going to stop him? Emperor Go-Daigo has expressed his concern about his actions. Do you have anything to say about that, Murasaki?"
She spoke to a male figure dressed in purple and looked like he would fall asleep at any moment. "Look, I have no say in what Ashikaga does."
The green figure spoke up. "You are one of his generals. What do you do every time you are making plans?"
"Mostly sleep. He doesn't care, me being a general is more because I saved his life than anything. He lets me do whatever I want."
The blond female spoke up having gotten closer to the green figure. "And that is sleep? Kyōryoku would never be so lazy."
"Shut up, Ketsueki. Everyone knows how much you love Kyōryoku and quite frankly it's annoying. I bet even he is annoyed by it."
The blond girl looked at the green figure beside her. Kyōryoku looked between Murasaki and Ketsueki before focusing on Ketsueki. "You could stand to mention it less."
A figure in yellow spoke up. "Look, we didn't meet here to bicker amongst ourselves." He turned to the red and white figure. "Akashiro, why did you call this meeting?"
"Thank you, Feizu. I called this meeting because I have a lead on our mystery origins. It's nothing significant yet but I think with all of us looking into it we can find something solid."
A figure in white armor next to him smiled. "So you've finally found something. That is some dedication to power."
The silver figure sighed. "Oh, the free time you get by being a mercenary. I kind of miss it."
The red figure beside him elbowed him. "Then you shouldn't have decided to move on to another life, Hagane."
Hagane hung his head. "Yeah, yeah, you don't have to tell me twice."
The female in black spoke up. "Anyway, please continue Akashiro."
"Thank you, Sakusei ." Akashiro pulled out a back from his bag and opened it. He pulled out scrolls and passed them around the circle. "These are copies I made myself of a document I found that mentions the existence of 12 beings beyond death. I believe this either refers to us or 12 beings that passed on their immortality to us, if that is, in fact, possible."
The other 11 figures stood in silence as they read what was on the scrolls that they had been given.
A tall male figure in black and orange spoke up. "What is this Divinity Machine it speaks of? Is this what gave them, and by extension us, their power?"
Kyōryoku hummed in thought. "I don't think so, Majishan. If you look further down it says the machine was called back to the heavens and no longer influenced the world of mortals."
Majishan read further. "Ah, I see what you mean."
"Keep in mind that the original scroll was in such bad shape that I was barely about to transcribe in. It was old even when we discovered our newfound gifts." Akashiro supplied.
Sakusei looked around the circle. "Have any thoughts, Daburu ?" She addressed the black and white figure across from her.
Said figure jumped before clearing his throat. "What if this Divinity Machine is in fact what gave these 12 being their power and when it was recalled some of its power lingered in these people?"
"That would explain why it doesn't mention the figures dying. Of course, this is assuming these figures aren't us." Kyōryoku rolled up his scroll. "For all we know, this could be a prophecy."
Majishan rolled his scroll up too. "Indeed, it doesn't exactly say when these events take place. It's just vague enough to give us more questions than answers."
The male figure in red and purple spoke up. "But it's a start. We know what we're looking for now."
The ashen yellow figure growled. "And where the fuck do you propose we begin our search for this Divinity Machine, Kogeta?"
"Not the Divinity Machine but something else that is briefly mentioned and glossed over."
Kyōryoku cocked his head to the side in confusion. "The God Seed?"
Kogeta nodded his head. "Think about it. We all know the legend of The God Seed. The divine, immortality-giving tree, whose seed fell to earth before the Gods could stop it. The fact that it is also mentioned here" He lifts the scroll in his hand. "Makes me think that there is more truth to the legend than we previously thought."
The ashen yellow male nodded silently. "It does say The God Seed is held by the smartest being in the rising sun."
The yellow male next to him nodded. "But what does that mean? It's held by someone who knows what it is but what is the rising sun?"
"I've heard foreigners refer to Japan as 'The Land of The Rising Sun', maybe it's talking about Japan?" Ketsueki spoke up after reading it a few times.
Kogeta gave the girl a side glance. "I guess foreigners are useful for something."
Kyōryoku cleared his throat. "Alright, we have a lead and we will each search on our own time. We won't reconvene until one of us finds something or something significant happens."
All twelve figures nodded in agreement. They step away from the clearing and into the brush that surrounded them.
