Before we start, I just wanted to answer this question that I received in my reviews.

Elisabeth123: How old is Bella?
Bella is 18. She was born in September of 1977. According to Hogwarts rules, students can only be accepted if they have turned 11 before September 1st, she started Hogwarts in 1989 and was in her 6th year when she went to help Harry and others in the department of Mystery. Bella was turned into a vampire in June 1996, a few months before she would turn 19😊

Chapter 3

Reali d'Italia

Carlisle and I have been traveling for a while never staying in one place for longer than a year. We have been able to visit a lot of European countries. After a while, I started thinking about this time period as an opportunity to learn. My dad and I visited most of the places that Carlisle and I have traveled to and I put mental notes to myself about places that didn't experience a drastic change throughout the years. Some of them actually didn't change at all, they looked exactly like I remembered them to be in the future.

With each place we visited, we learned the language using the Bibles and other books that we could find. Carlisle and I started going out into the cities more often. Carlisle spent his nights learning from the healers, his self-control was impressive as he never lost it even while treating humans with open wounds. I was interested to learn the healing procedures that humans used, but two things were stopping me. Firstly, I didn't trust my self-control yet, I was still fairly new to this life. Secondly, I was a female, and in this time period, it was unacceptable for my gender to learn from the great healers. Carlisle, of course, didn't think that way, so each morning when he came home, he would tell me everything he learned.

The nights that Carlisle was away I spent mastering the spells I already knew. Using magic felt natural to me. I also found myself drawn to one particular potion that people who wish to become animagi should drink. I researched that question for a long time and consulted with Carlisle about vampires' physiological issues. After a long internal dialogue with myself, I decided to try. If nothing would happen, then nothing would happen. I was mostly interested in advancing my skills, there was no way I would actually be needing to use my animagi form.

That was 3 years ago, I followed the books word to word, checking to see if I remembered everything right. My memory was perfect, but I still double and even triple-checked myself at times. The process was weird and required a lot of time and patience. I carried a single Mandrake leaf in my mouth for an entire month – from full moon to full moon to be precise. Carlisle found my discomfort funny for which he received death glares from me. I then had to find a small crystal vial that received the pure rays of the moon, put my saliva-filled leaf inside, and add one of my hairs to it.

The second step included adding a silver teaspoon of dew from a place that neither sunlight nor human feet have touched for a full seven days. And if that wasn't hard enough, I then had to add the chrysalis of a Death's-head Hawk Moth to the crystal vial as well. I then put 'this mixture in a quiet, dark place' and left it alone until the next electrical storm.

The third step required me to wait for the storm, I placed my wand tip over my heart every sunrise and sundown and spoke the following incantation: 'Amato Animo Animato Animagus'. I kept repeating the incantation, and one day when I touched the wand-tip to my chest, I heard a heartbeat. It wasn't my heart, my heart stopped beating years ago. I smiled to myself realizing I was on the right track.

I kept saying the incantation until the storm came a little over a month later. As soon as lightning appeared in the sky, I went to the cellar of the house that we were staying at in Spain, to the place where I'd hidden my crystal vial. I discovered a mouthful of blood-red potion inside it. I checked to see that Carlisle wasn't in my hearing radius and placed my wand tip against my chest where my heart should be. I spoke the incantation once more and drank the potion. It tasted like blood, wolf blood, I noted.

Suddenly, I started feeling pain in my whole body. I felt a heartbeat inside me and screamed. My body felt like it was being stretched and torn apart. I closed my eyes and a large black wolf appeared in my head. I fell to the floor and screamed in pain as I felt my legs elongate, my body growing parts I wasn't supposed to have such as tails and big pointy ears.

In a few minutes when the pain stopped, I opened my eyes, but everything looked different. I realized my vision was still perfect, but I was now even shorter than I was before. Probably only reaching my elbow. I looked at my paws which seemed enormous. I turned my head to the back and noticed my tale. I shook it happily. I found that I was closer to a very dark brown than black. The coloring was probably due to my black dress being mixed with my hair.

I took a step forward and was surprised by how natural it felt for me to walk on four legs rather than two. A wolf. I was a wolf, I wondered if my dad would have been proud of me. We were both canines. At least I got that from you, dad. I thought and smiled to myself.

After that night I practiced turning and after a few months was able to turn without using my wand. Carlisle was, obviously, curious, so I let him study me while I was in my wolf form. Although I had a heartbeat, Carlisle wasn't able to prickle my skin for blood. We found that my wolfskin was just as tough as my vampire skin.

Wherever we traveled, we would visit the wizarding community of the country. It was interesting to see how the human fashion styles were changing when the wizarding stayed the same. My Daily Prophet newspapers were able to find me wherever we traveled which I was happy about. I kept up with local news, but nothing important was happening. At least not yet.

March 19th, 1700

The Italian city Volterra was our new home for a few weeks now. We stayed, once again, in an abandoned cottage right outside of the city. Volterra was beautiful with its little houses and a massive stone wall that protected its citizens from those who didn't wish them well. Carlisle and I only went into the city a few times so far, not counting the nights Carlisle spent learning medicine from the local healers.

"I think we should both go into the city after the sun comes down. I heard Mauricio talking to others about St. Marc's Day. There will be music and dancing."

"St. Marc's Day?" I had to ask since I've never heard about that holiday.

"St. Marc cleared Volterra from vampires. He built the walls around the city with garlic and holy water, so no vampire would terrorize the citizens of Volterra." He smiled at me.

"That sounds like fun, I'm in, old man." I chuckled. "Hopefully, I will be able to pass the city walls." Carlisle shook his head smiling and left my room.

When the sun set down, I put on my blue robe and called Carlisle. He was already waiting for me at the door. I put my hand on his arm and we left the house. The walk to Volterra didn't take long and we soon found ourselves submerged into a crowd of people who were all dressed in red. I gave Carlisle a curious look to which he just shook his shoulders. He didn't know why the color of blood either.

As we walked further down the city, I started hearing music and people moving to the tone of it. Everyone around us looked like they were having fun. Kids tugged on their parents' hands pointing to the merchants who were selling garlic and wooden stakes. I chuckled.

Carlisle and I were now standing on the main square with a giant statue in the middle. The statue of the man, who I could only assume to be St. Marc. I smiled at people around us, they looked so happy and fearless, not even thinking about Carlisle and me being vampires who stood just a few feet away from them.

"Shall we dance?" Carlisle asked me offering me his hand.

"Sure, but I have to warn you, I am terrible at it." I smiled at him and took his hand.

Carlisle led me closer to the musicians and put my hands in his. I tried following the woman to my right, but Carlisle took a lead and swirled me. I found myself dancing, even though I didn't know how to. I guessed it all depended on the partner. I rotated the ring on my thumb. It should be you spinning me around. Just like you did at the Yule ball. I thought to the ring.

We stopped when we noticed the number of people on the square significantly dropped. The night was coming to an end for humans who still needed to sleep.

"Thank you for bringing me here tonight," I whispered.

"My pleasure, child." He whispered back.

We started leaving Volterra, walking down slowly on the hill leading to the castle gates. Around us, people were disappearing into their houses, so with each step that we took, the number of people on the streets lessened.

"Well, well, well. Who do we have here?" A melodic female voice called from the dark opening in between two houses.

I froze in place when I couldn't hear the person's heartbeat. Carlisle and I met a few nomads while we were traveling, and those encounters weren't always pleasant. I looked at Carlisle, he was staring into the darkness warily. He pushed me behind him.

"Show yourself," Carlisle spoke into the dark.

I heard footsteps coming closer to us and a few seconds later I saw its owner. A petite girl, not older than 12, with pale brown hair emerged from the dark. She was wearing a long black robe and a dark red dress that reached her feet. Her eyes were dark burgundy. My hands instinctively touched my wand holster, ready to pull it out just in case.

"Who are you? And what are you doing in Volterra?" She asked.

"My name is Carlisle, this is Bella," Carlisle spoke. "We are staying outside of the city and heard about the celebration. We didn't know the territory was occupied; we will leave now."

"I don't think so. Who is your creator? He didn't think to mention that Volterra belongs to the Volturi?" She asked.

"I didn't know my creator," Carlisle told her.

"I see. Aro would want to speak with you, Carlisle. Please follow me." She turned around expecting us to follow her.

"I think Bella and I will leave now. Tell Aro we won't be coming back." Carlisle spoke and immediately fell on his knees screaming in pain. I noticed there was no one left on the streets and took out my wand from its holster.

"Protego," I screamed pointing my wand at Carlisle.

Nothing changed, he was still on his knees. I didn't understand what was going on. It should have worked. Only then did I turn my eyes to the girl and see her looking at Carlisle with a slight smile on her face. I pointed my wand at her and screamed: "Stupefy!"

I knew spells didn't affect vampires, I have tried it on Carlisle before, and it just bounced off of his skin. But my spell made her lose her concentration and she looked at me like she was seeing me for the first time. I noticed Carlisle stopped screaming and I knew that now the same thing would happen to me. I was waiting for the pain, but it never came.

"You are one of those." The girl spoke. "I'm not allowed to harm you, witch, but I will harm your friend Carlisle if you don't follow me."

"What does Aro want with us?" I asked as I helped Carlisle get up. He looked at me and I nodded. We would have to follow her; I couldn't see Carlisle in such pain again.

"Introduce the Volturi, explain the rules of the vampire world." She spoke as she started walking into the darkness again. This time we followed. "We are not planning to harm you."

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Jane." She replied.

"And you couldn't tell us that before, Jane?" I asked again.

"I didn't think you would assume we were."

"My deepest apologies, how could I think you would be trying to hurt us…It's not like you just made my friend fall on his knees in pain." I told her sarcastically.

"You speak funny, Bella." Jane chuckled. "I believe you are right; I forgot my manners before. Hurting your friend was truly not necessary, I apologize, Carlisle."

"Apology accepted," Carlisle said.

The three of us walked through the dark alley completely in silence for a while. After a few minutes, Jane took a sharp turn and entered a small house. It looked like any other, but we didn't stay in it. We walked past the living room space and into the door that led us downstairs. The giant stairwell was made out of stone and appeared to be centuries old. The basement area was lit up with torches, but we didn't stay in that room either. Jane opened up another door that led into a wide corridor, with torches lit up on both sides of the wall. The corridor seemed to be a few miles long and I was tired of walking at a normal human pace.

"Can we run?" I asked Jane.

"Pardon me, but I don't wish to be the one lighting up all these torches again, so I would rather we walk." She spoke.

I rolled my eyes and continued walking.

"Isn't there another way to get to where we are going?" I asked again after half an hour.

"You are newcomers, we can't trust you to know the easier ways yet," Jane replied.

After another hour of us walking, I asked again. "If I promise you to light up all the torches again, can we run?"

"Bella, you are the most impatient vampire I have ever met." Jane laughed. "We are nearly there."

I rolled my eyes at her comment of me being impatient and heard Carlisle trying to hold his laughter.

"Traitor," I whispered to him. Now both Jane and Carlisle chuckled out loud. "I hate both of you."

Jane was right, however, in another five minutes, we finally reached another door, that led to a similar basement area. Jane led us to another room that had spiral steps. I looked up and groaned as I saw torches. No running, yet again, this was taking forever.

"It is only for a couple of floors." Jane smiled at me.

"Fine, let's go already." I sighed.

The staircase led us to a big bright room. I noticed the sun was coming out already, how much time did we spend walking in that underground corridor? Jane didn't stop in that room either, but she started running, and I happily followed her pace. It took us only a minute to finally get to the room we were going to. All three of us stopped before a door, at least 15 feet high and 10 feet wide. I noticed interesting designs carved on it. The letter V was the most popular one.

Jane opened the door and Carlisle and I followed her inside. The round-shaped room had wide big windows and high sealings. On top of the ceiling was an enormous chandelier that wasn't lit up. The whole room was made out of marble, next to the walls there were bookcases and benches.

Right in the middle, on a small risen platform stood three giant chairs that, I could only assume, were thrones. The one on the right was occupied by a young man with long black hair. On the left, a man in his 40-s with pure white shoulder-length hair. In the middle, a man in his 20s with jet black hair. The one in the middle appeared to be their leader. Behind the three thrones were three smaller ones with three beautiful women sitting on them. There were many other people in the room, two of them stood guard at the door that we walked through, others stood around the three thrones eyeing us with interest clearly written on their faces. All of them were wearing dark cloaks, just like Jane, and had red eyes.

"Who do we have here, Jane?" The man who sat in the middle asked.

"This is Carlisle and Bella, I found them during the celebration last night. "They didn't know who you were, master, so I made a decision to bring them to you."

Master? So that must be Aro.

"How peculiar. Thank you, dear." Aro stood up and made his way to us. "My name is Aro Volturi, these are my brothers Marcus and Caius. We are the ruling clan of vampires. May I?"

He offered his hand to Carlisle. I looked at him worriedly, somehow, I knew something was wrong. Carlisle gave his hand to Aro and the latter closed his eyes for a second.

"I can read every thought a person has ever had with a touch of my hand," Aro explained. "I can see you have never broken a law, neither have you ever tried human blood. Very interesting."

"Now you, my dear Bella, if you don't mind." Aro offered me his hand. I took it after a second. After all, I didn't have anything to hide. Aro closed his eyes but opened them again after just a second. "Nothing?"

I was confused. Was he not able to see my thoughts? I've never studied occlumency, my mind was open. How could it not be?

"I wonder if other gifts don't work on young Bella. Of course, we can only test it with your consent." Aro spoke to me. I noticed Caius standing up and walking towards Aro. He gave him his hand and after a second Aro spoke. "Brother, the female is a witch, you know we can't harm them unless we want to start a war with the wizarding community."

I noticed everyone was looking at me now. There were probably not a lot of wizard vampire hybrids in the world, so I decided the stares had a place to be.

"What are you trying to test?" I asked Aro.

"I wonder if you have a gift, like Jane and myself."

"So, Jane's gift is putting people in pain?" I asked, rhetorically, of course.

"Yes, if her gift doesn't work on you, then I believe you have a mental shield, we can help you develop it, in exchange for your full story of course. It is quite fascinating what I've heard from Carlisle."

A mental shield and I can develop it. I was always interested in learning new things, maybe this wouldn't be such a bad idea. I looked at Carlisle.

"What do you think?" I asked.

"I will be by your side, no matter what you chose, child." He replied.

I looked back at Aro and nodded. A smile appeared on his face and he turned to Jane. I looked at the little girl, who would resemble an angel if not for her eyes. I prepared myself again for the pain that was about to come, but there was nothing. I felt like something was trying to get into my brain and realized that was Jane's gift. My eyes ran from Aro to Jane, but I still didn't feel anything except the waves trying to get into my brain.

"She has a gift," Jane said in exasperation. "A strong one."

Aro turned back to me and gave me a warm smile.

"You are welcome to stay here for however long you want. We will keep our promise and teach you how to use it to protect others and take it off of yourself. After that, if you wish to stay, both of you." Aro looked at Carlisle. "We will gladly accept you into the Volturi guard."

I thanked him sincerely.

"Get some rest, Felix will show you our guest rooms. In the evening I would like to hear your full story, young Bella."

Carlisle and I followed a tall bulky vampire Felix out of the throne room into the hall and up the stairs. We were given two separate rooms next to each other. Carlisle followed me into my room before going into his. I heard Felix's footsteps disappear into the staircase.

"Do you think it's a good idea?" I asked Carlisle.

"They aren't hurting us and they gave us a place to stay. I can't see why it would be a bad idea. Are you not sure if Aro is being genuine?"

"No, I think he is telling the truth, but this whole situation just seems weird to me. Why would they help me develop my gift just for my story?"

"You mean to say your one in a million story about the wizarding world, time travel, and vampirism?" He chuckled.

"I see you learned sarcasm, old man," I spoke.

"I have a great teacher." He smiled at me and I bumped his shoulder with a smile. "I am sure everything will be fine. Besides, they told us we can leave whenever we want."

"You're right." I sighed.

"Well, I'm going to go back to our house and pack our belongings, while you take this all in." Carlisle squeezed my hand lightly and left the room.

When he left, I looked around. The room was spacious and had an elegant design. The floors were pitch black, which contrasted well with golden wall paint. In the middle of the room was a giant bed with red sheets laying on top of it nicely. A big mirror was placed on the wall above a powder table with a little chair hidden underneath it. There was a bookcase on the wall in front of the bed and a big closet with white towels and dark cloaks towards the right.

The towels made me think this place had a bathroom, so I opened the only door the room had beside the main one. I think my eyes were as big as a galleon when I looked inside. That room was indeed a bathroom, inside it, there was a 7'' by 7'' square pool carved into the floor. I touched the water and was amazed to find out it felt hot to the touch. Volturi were definitely rich if they could afford so much wood that would hit up water inside the bath from underneath it 24/7.

I quickly undressed and walked into the pool letting the hot water warm up my stone-cold body. I couldn't remember the last time I had a hot bath. My body wasn't producing any oils anymore, so in case I got dirty, which didn't happen often, the rivers, lakes, and sea were my baths.

I submerged myself into the water fully and spend a few minutes enjoying the feeling of my hair floating around in the water. I didn't know how much time I spent in the pool, but when I came out, the sun was shining right through my window.

I noticed my small enchanted bag lying on top of the bed and a few rags, that Carlisle used to transport my clothes from the tower. I smiled and opened the rags first. My gowns fell out of it and I tried finding the white one that I liked the most.

I brushed out my hair in front of the mirror and left the room to find Carlisle.

"Come in," Carlisle said when I knocked.

His room looked exactly like mine; every single thing was placed the same. I noticed Carlisle's wet hair.

"I see you found the bathroom as enjoying as I did." I giggled.

He didn't reply, but I saw him smiling at me. "Perhaps us staying there will not be so bad after all."

"Or we will get spoiled and won't be able to leave," I spoke.

"Would that be a bad thing?" Carlisle smiled and then continued. "Are you ready to tell Aro your story?" He asked.

I nodded and we walked outside.

Here I wanted to address that Volturi will not be antagonists in this story, and since they are not the bad guys, Didyme is still alive and well. I'm sure some of you might notice that Volturi descriptions are not the same as the actors who portrayed them in the movies, that's because I'm writing this fanfiction based on the books.

As always, please review!
