Harry sat alone in the confines of his room at Privet drive, deep in thought and struggling to make sense of the war he was in the middle of.
Just hours away from his birthday, he knew he had very important a choice to make. A choice that would change who he was forever.
Feeling the pressures of the life he was forced to live had completely broken him. Some ugly truths had made themselves known during the summer. Harry for the last few years has come to understand nothing is as it seems. The light weren't as good as they wanted to portray and the dark were not as evil as expected.
Dumbledore, having known the hardships of Harry's upbringing in privet drive, chose to ignore it and excused it for the greater good.
Harry had come up with a plan to ensure both sides wouldn't cause harm to the general public, both magic and muggles. He needed to remove those in power with those who can be trusted to lead with morals and with good intention.
After long hours of discussions with Ron and Hermione during the night in Gryffindor tower during the previous school year, they had come up with a strategy to ensure their plan would succeed.
Looking down at his parchment he had noted down his agenda.
The Dark needed to be destroyed. Long ago when Tom Riddle was fresh out of Hogwarts. Whilst working in knock-turn alley, he was rallying about bringing tradition back to the forefront of magical practice. That back in the day of the founders, muggles and magic folk lived in harmony and prosperity, until jealousy and greed started a war. the statute of secrecy was enforced shortly after. His first agenda was to stop hiding in fear and to embrace a new future together.
But practicing dark magic rotted his mind, twisting it until he was power hungry and determined to avenge his mother's death by killing all muggles.
Now that is all the dark side stand for.
At 11:57pm on the 30th of July, Harry sat patiently at the edge of his bed waiting for the new day to start, the day he became an adult by Wizarding standards.
The Dursley's positively beaming with joy at the prospect of Harry leaving their home forever, left Harry alone the full day, which he was eternally grateful for. Done where his days of subtle abuse, being forced to do overbearing manual labour and starved. Harry just learned to look at it from another prospective, it build character, made him stronger mentally and physically.
At 00:00am the alarm suddenly went off, pulling Harry from thought. He slowly stood up and went over to the cage which housed his beloved champion Hedwig. Opening the cage he stroked the feathers of the snowy owl once last time before commanding her to fly free and head to the burrow where he knows she will be safe.
With controlled movements he sneaks out of the small bedroom without making a single noise, walks down the corridor towards the master bedroom. With an unfamiliar glint in his eyes, he slowly opens the door to peer inside. On the bed was his overweight uncle and horse faced aunt. Both deep in sleep and content.
Pulling out his wand, he rolled it in his hand contemplating if he really had the nerves to do what he had been planning all summer. The abuse had gotten worse this summer. Beaten, starved and humiliated beyond what was normal even for him had left deep scars on his mind.
Pointing his wand at the large figure on the bed Harry uttered the killing curse and the room filled up with a green light matching the colour of his eyes. Harry had finally let go of his past and walked into his future with fierce determination.
