I was originally planning to leave Rose's revenge for readers' imagination, but willowfaust's review made me write a little about it. So...Willowfaust, the next little bit is for you:)
Chapter 9
Brother Bear
Rosalie was theatrical with her revenge, she managed to find a very similar wedding dress in one of the boutiques in the city. I left some money on the cash register as she went to the changing room to put it on. We hunted down all of Royce's friends who had something to do with what happened to Rose. She broke their necks one by one. I was proud of her self-control, she never bit any of them. I used my magic to silence the rooms, we had to make sure no one will come to check on the screams.
Rosalie left Royce behind for last, I didn't silence his house. He was there alone with a couple of guards, Rose wanted to get rid of them all. I heard three heartbeats going faster when we broke the main door. I hoped they were scared.
Rose ran upstairs and broke the guards' necks seamlessly, she knocked on the door lightly.
"Royce, open up the door…" She sang. "It's Rosie, don't you want to see me again?"
"Go away, devil!" Royce was screaming and praying behind the door. Rosalie chuckled and I saw her breaking the door off its hinges. The loud pop was the door flying into the wall. Royce screamed even higher now. I wasn't looking anymore, I turned around and watched the main door. Maybe I should have silenced this house…It was too late now.
When the screams stopped, I checked on Rosalie. She was sitting in the room, right on top of Royce with a devilish look on her face. I saw the blood around her mouth, she drank from him. Crap, that wasn't a part of the plan, but an idea came to my head.
I got the blood from Rosalie's face into my fingers and wrote with it on the wall. 'Fear the Grimm'.
"The Grimm?" Rose asked confused. "What does he have to do with it?"
"The Grimm used to be me; I doubt Rochester Police will be able to track him down," I told her and came closer to Royce. I pushed my fingers into his neck and tore the skin around it, making it look just like the Grimm's victims did.
"Let's go." I gave her my hand. She took it and I apparated us back home. The sun was still hiding behind the horizon, so I told Rose to go clean herself before Carlisle and Edward arrive. I prepared to explain tonight's event to my husband, I hoped he would understand it had to be done.
November 17th, 1935
We've been living in Gatlinburg, Tennessee for a couple of years now. It was hard for Rose to adapt to her new self, and especially hard for her to control her emotions and thoughts about Edward and I. Edward would tell me Rose felt lonely, I couldn't blame her for that. Living with two couples had to be annoying at times. She would go hunting alone and lock herself in the room for hours. I tried bringing her books, but she wasn't interested in that.
When her eyes changed to gold, I took her shopping, that seemed to lighten up her mood a little. Although, I think she would like it better if she went with someone who understands fashion a little more than I did.
Rose expressed interest in Carlisle's car, and he has been teaching her how to drive when he wasn't working. It was strange to see Rose working on Carlisle's car, changing the oil and watching the motor for hours, trying to figure out how it worked. She didn't mind getting dust on her face or oil spilling on her dresses. The elite girl that she was in high school was gone at those moments.
Ce…Edward and I resumed our college education, I had fewer classes than before at first, so I could stay and be of a company to Rose. However, when she expressed no interest in spending time with me, I resumed all my classes and was going to school full-time.
Tennessee was a sunny place, which was unfortunate. Edward and I had to skip a lot of school days, but we had no problem catching up to the material. It was boring and I was nearly begging Carlisle to move somewhere with less sunshine. Edward and I were talking about visiting England more and more, we both missed its climate and the people. Tennessee didn't have access to wizarding world, so it was even harder on both of us.
Rosalie wasn't very interested in our magic, she didn't mind apparating, unlike Carlisle and Esme. The only thing that intrigued her about the wizarding world were mine and Edward's brooms. She wanted to know how they worked, which Edward happily shared with her. He took her flying one night, she seemed to enjoy how fast they went. Rose was even more excited when he told her that in the future, the newer brooms go twice as fast.
Edward told me Rose had mixed feelings towards me. She was grateful that I saved her and helped her get rid of her abusers, but she was also angry because she lost an opportunity to grow old and have kids. Having kids was a topic that none of us liked to discuss, we all lost that opportunity when Carlisle changed us. Edward and I didn't speak about kids since we went back in time, we had names picked out in Hogwarts, and now that lost opportunity only brought up the memories and hurt our feelings.
Our lives started going back to normal again, Rosalie was staying at the house and didn't go to school, so during her seldom outings to the city with us, we told people she was Carlisle's younger sister and my aunt because of their blond hair.
It was a normal Tuesday afternoon for us, Edward and I just finished classes for the day, and he was driving us home in his new car. He was murmuring melodies while he drove, and I looked out of the window. The vast forest area of Gatlinburg reminded me of Godrick's Hollow, where my father and I lived for a couple of years after my mom was killed.
When we reached home, I noticed a package at the front door that was tied to an owl's leg. I untied it and opened the door wide enough for the owl to fly in. I missed seeing owls around, it has been a few months since we let Carly go, she was too old now and we didn't want to make her do anything except for being free and enjoying her life in the wild. She never came back to visit.
"Hi, Carlisle," Edward said when we entered the house. I heard book pages turning upstairs.
"Hey, welcome back," Carlisle spoke, not leaving his bedroom.
I gave the owl some bird seeds that I kept for the birds that delivered the Daily Prophet and it flew away out of the window. I opened the package curiously; I wasn't expecting anything. Edward looked over my shoulder, trying to see what I got.
A thin book was in my hand now, the name of it was carved into the leather of the front cover, 'Magical Beasts and where to find them. I grinned at the name and looked at the book spine. 'Newt Scamander'. I opened the first page and saw neat handwriting.
"Dear Isabella Black, thank you for believing my book would become a success! I apologize again for not knowing who you were when we met. This is the first edition; I hope you enjoy it!
-Newt."
"How cool is that?" I turned to show the book to Edward. "First edition!"
"You met Newt Scamander?!" He questioned with a shocked face.
"A few months before I met you, did I not mention that?" I asked.
Our conversation ended suddenly, as I heard someone running to the house. I looked at Edward and noticed his body tensed.
"What? What is it?" I asked.
"It's Rose, she found someone in the woods." He said quickly. "Carlisle, we need you!"
In a second Carlisle was downstairs, Edward dragged our kitchen table into the living room, where we had more space.
"There is a lot of blood, he has wounds all over his body, Rose found him when he was mauled by a bear."
"You should go," Carlisle told Edward and the last one nodded.
"I'll come with you," I spoke, he shook his head no.
"You should stay and help Carlisle; the guy is a giant." Edward kissed me on my forehead. "Besides, you two are the only ones who could be near human blood and not go insane."
I nodded and watched him run out of the house just before Rose came running in. The guy on her shoulders did look like a giant, he was probably just a little smaller than Hagrid. His feet nearly dragged on the floor even though his body was still on Rose's shoulders, I couldn't imagine how uncomfortable running was for her.
She placed him on the kitchen table and looked at Carlisle.
"Turn him." She begged. "For me, please, he has to live."
I looked at her confused. Did she know the guy before? I switched my eyes to Carlisle and saw him looking at Rose with the same look.
"I don't know how to explain it, but if he dies, I die." She sobbed. "Please, Carlisle."
Mates? Was the giant guy her mate? I wondered. Carlisle nodded slightly and I told Rose to wait in the forest. She didn't want to leave his sight. I had to promise I will come to get her as soon as Carlisle was done.
This was my first time being present through someone changing.
"What do I do?" I asked.
"Get on top of him, hold his arms." He instructed. I nodded and did exactly as he told me.
I noticed Carlisle stopped breathing and got his teeth into the guy's neck. Suddenly, I felt someone trying to push me out of the way. I was stronger than the man on the table, but his human strength was very noticeable. I noticed his head move, so I quickly pinned his arms with my legs and held my hands over his head, stabilizing it in one place.
The smell of human blood burned my throat intensely, there was a lot of it coming from his ripped open chest and now the neck. I concentrated my thoughts on what Carlisle told me to do and was happy when he told me it was done. I noticed the man on the table was fighting less and screaming more.
"I'll go get Rose," I told him. "And try to find Edward, so he could help you clean him up," I told Carlisle.
"Thank you for staying." Carlisle smiled sadly at me.
"Of course, old man." I patted his shoulder. "You did a good thing, you saved him."
I hoped my reassuring worked as I ran outside of the house. Edward was standing a few miles away, and I sent him back to the house. I looked for Rose for a while, until I was finally able to catch her scent. She was sitting under a big tree sobbing in her hands.
"Hey," I said sheepishly.
"How is he?" She stood up immediately.
"He will be fine in a few days," I assured her and saw a sad smile on her face. "Isn't that what you wanted?"
"For myself, yes." She answered. "For him…I don't know. I don't know him, maybe he wouldn't want to be like us, maybe I didn't save him…What if I cursed him, Bella?"
"Why did you save him?" I asked, emphasizing the word 'save'.
"It might be stupid, but do you remember Vera from school? My best friend?" She asked and I stared at her more confused than ever. What did the big guy in our house had to do with her high school best friend? "When I saw him in the forest, he looked just like Vera's son Henry. I was visiting them right before Royce and his friends…you know." She spoke. "Bella, he has the same dimples, and he was so brave, he tried to fight the bear with his bare hands. Something inside of me just told me he can't die."
"You think he's your mate?" I asked.
"I don't know, I didn't think about that." She shook her head. "I just hope he's okay."
"He is, do you want to sit with him while he transforms?" I asked.
"But the blood…" She started saying.
"Edward is cleaning it up right now."
Rose nodded with a small smile and followed me back into the house. The house once again smelled like bleach, and I cursed. I started to really hate this chemical, too much of it was spilled in just two years.
Edward and I hunted while the guy in Rose's room screamed. She stayed with him the whole time. Edward told me she felt guilty for putting him through pain.
"When do you think we'll visit England?" Ce…Edward asked.
"I think we'll have to wait until our time comes, we can't be seen, your grandparents are alive already and the Hogwarts professors too, what if we run into them now and they remember us in the future…We can't be risking the element of surprise for when we actually have to return and help Harry." I sighed.
"I wish we could go to Hogwarts," Edward chuckled. "Wouldn't it be fun seeing our parents so young?"
"Probably, dad told me a lot about his time there, it always sounded fascinating." I smiled.
"We had some fascinating moments too." He looked at me with a devilish look in his eyes.
"Like what?" I smirked.
"Like that time when Sprout nearly caught us snogging in the greenhouse…" He came closer to me. "Or the time Fred and George named us the cutest couple in Hogwarts. I haven't seen you blush so hard before." I chuckled; he took another step towards me. "Or when my roommates started playing some stupid romantic songs every time you came over."
He pinned me to the tree. "And what happened after my roommates left and we were given our privacy."
The growing feeling in my stomach was too noticeable for me to control, besides I didn't want to control it. I jumped on Edward, kissing him passionately. He kissed me back and held me up, still pinning my back to a tree. A pure animal instinct took over us at that moment, I moaned and growled. Luckily, there was no one around to see what we were doing.
When the man was about to wake up, all five of us were standing in the room. So far, every single person Carlisle has created didn't show any aggression, but with a guy the size of this man, we couldn't be sure. He would be stronger than any of us in his newborn phase and after that probably too.
With venom taking control of his body, his large muscles looked even more toned now, and I could have sworn he grew another inch. His hair became a little darker and shinier, his jawline was more visible, he still had the dimples in his cheeks, and those made him look younger than he was.
All five of us were standing in the room silently, just staring at the man on Rosalie's bed and listening to his heartbeat. If someone walked into the room now, he would assume we were some creeps. The man opened his eyes slowly and placed his hands on his chest, trying to find the bear claws wounds that were gone. He slowly looked up to see Rosalie sitting right next to him.
"You're my angel?" He asked and coughed. "What's wrong with my voice?"
He looked to be confused and a little angry, I looked at Edward warily. Edward came towards him and Rosalie very slowly and got her off the bed, placing her behind him. My husband gave a warning look to Carlisle when he tried getting closer to the man.
"Emmett," Edward said quietly. "You're confused, I understand that. The emotions that you are feeling are hard to control, but that will become easier in time."
Emmett looked at him now with a disoriented look on his face.
"You were mauled by a bear in the forest, do you remember that?" Edward asked, and Emmett nodded. "Rosalie found you and brought you here. In order to save your life, you had to become someone else…something else. You notice your eyesight and hearing are better, you feel stronger than before, right? It's all a part of this change. Yes, your voice as well." He answered the last question by reading his mind.
"What am I?"
"A vampire," Edward said carefully.
"Awesome." Emmett grinned after a second and all of us looked at each other confused. I wasn't sure I heard it properly…Did he just say 'awesome'?! "Your faces, you should see your faces now!"
A strong laugh coming out of his mouth, I was sure, shook the whole house. I was the first one to start laughing with him. The whole situation was just ridiculous. We gathered in this room, preparing for him to attack us, and here he was, sitting in the bed, laughing about the expression on our confused faces. I had a feeling Emmett would become a great addition to the family.
Rosalie, who Emmett refused to call anything but 'angel', and Carlisle took Emmett for his first hunt. Edward told me how it went the following night.
"Carlisle was so confused in his thoughts. Emmett got into a fight with another bear, this time he won of course. But he told Carlisle that from now, every bear that we find while we are hunting is his." Edward chuckled.
"He is definitely not what I expected him to be." I laughed with Edward.
"Me neither. He looks like a serious guy, but his thoughts…Bella, I honestly think he stopped maturing at the age of 12. So many ideas for pranks and jokes…he's the biggest kid I've ever met. I wish I could compare his mind to Fred and George."
"That's good. It was getting boring, every day was the same, maybe we'll get into some adventures now." I smiled at him.
"I just hope you won't start missing the boredom, Emmett is staying with us for a long time," Edward spoke after a few minutes. I noticed a giggle coming from the driveway.
"Rose and him?" I whispered to him; I didn't want the couple outside to overhear me. Edward nodded. "That's so sweet."
"He thinks she is his guardian angel. Funny, smart, and gorgeous." Edward whispered to me.
"What about her?" I didn't like the fact that we were interfering in their private life, but I couldn't help it.
"She likes how he's unpredictable with his answers and that he's not trying to get into her skirt. She wonders if he's being genuine about wanting to know her better." Edward smiled.
"They will be such a cute couple."
"You'll regret saying that the day they start having sex, remember our first year after reunion…I have a feeling we would have to build them a separate house." He laughed quietly and I rolled my eyes.
"Only one thing on your mind, my husband."
"What's so bad about that?" He grinned at me and put his body on top of mine, kissing my neck.
After Emmett was turned, it was impossible for us to stay in Gatlinburg, and we had to move again. Emmett's self-control lessons were harder on him than on any of us and he slipped a couple of times during them. He felt bad after that, but Rosalie was there for him.
We wanted to give Emmett a few weeks, so his family would give up the search parties for him and assume him dead. It was hard for him to see his mother and three siblings looking for him in the woods, he stayed next to them in case an animal was going to attack. Carlisle opened a bank account for Emmett's family to help with the money that they lost because Emmett wasn't working anymore. He left a good fortune in their name.
Edward and I had to leave the university again, and I wrote the letters in the same format as those to Rochester University. Carlisle started looking into the hospitals in Washington state. Their climate was supposedly similar to England, which made both Edward and I happy. Carlisle, who was also from the UK, missed home as well.
I thought it might be a good idea for the whole family to stay in England for a while when it would be time for Cedrick and me to meet up with Harry again.
Emmett was ecstatic and excited when he learned about the wizarding world, he borrowed my broom a few times to go flying with Edward, who didn't seem to mind the switch. I thought that Ce...Edward, being the only child in the family, liked having Emmett around for the fun sake of it. They shared an interest in sports and Emmett was eager to learn how to play Quidditch.
I had more time to read now and spend some quality time with other members of my new family. Rose and I still didn't share a lot of interests, but she still dragged me shopping sometimes and played Monopoly with me, Carlisle and Esme, while the other two boys were out.
In a few weeks, we started moving. I put all of Edward's and my belongings into the purse, while the others decided to pack everything into moving boxes. Edward and I would run, while Emmett and Rosalie would take Edward's car, and Carlisle and Esme take Carlisle's car to Washington. I didn't mind that arrangement; it would mean spending more time alone with Edward.
Edward and I were the first ones to arrive in the small town of Forks, about an hour away from Seattle. As soon as we entered the city borders, I smiled. The forests looked as green as ever, the clouds overcast the sky and the rain drizzled a little. I liked the rain; it made the ground and everything around it smell fresh.
We ran to the house that Carlisle and Esme purchased. From the outside, there was a large lawn area, with six primordial cedars. I could imagine that the vast sweep of the tree branches shaded an entire lawn and reached the house as well. It was very well-thought. It was big and looked old. A deep porch wrapped around the first story. I knew Esme would want to remodel it as soon as possible.
"We can choose the room first." I grinned at him.
We walked into the house. The walls, the high beamed ceiling, the wooden floors were all pastel in color and made the house look even brighter. We followed inside, to the right there was a kitchen and living room area, with a few closed doors near them that led into an office space and a bathroom. To the left, there was a wide spiraling staircase that led upstairs. We could see the living room below us even when we reached the second floor. I liked that.
Upstairs, there was a long hall which had three separate rooms. One of them was too small for a bedroom, so I assumed Carlisle would either use it for an office or a library room that I've been asking about for so long now. That small room was conjoined with another two smaller ones. Esme could turn one of them into her study. The two bedrooms on the floor were spacious. The one right above the living room was L-shaped and had its own bathroom and closet doors that led to a smaller space. That was the biggest walk-in closet I've ever seen, and it would only make sense for Rosalie to have this room. She definitely liked getting new clothes more than I did. The other bedroom was on top of the main hallway on the first floor and also had an adjoining smaller room connected to it as well as the bathroom and a walk-in closet.
On the last floor, there were three doors as well. The first one led to a small bedroom with a bathroom and a simple closet. The other one led to a spacious room with nothing in it. The last door led to a medium size bedroom, the view from the windows made me gasp. We were high enough to see both the trees and the sky. It was absolutely breathtaking. The room also had a small walk-in closet and a big bathroom. This room was lighter than the others and had windows on both walls. I looked at Edward, hoping he liked it as much as I did. He hugged me and took my purse from my hands. He threw the purse on the floor, signifying that the room was taken.
Our family reached the house the next day. I already went into the town to check out the local shops and stores, as well as drop Carlisle's resume and recommendations to the local hospital. I wondered if we should start school again or look at the closest college in the area. I also wondered if Rose, or maybe even Emmett would want to join us. It was November now, and I didn't want to start school in the middle of the semester, so this plan would be for September of the next year.
We helped everyone unpack and I helped Esme start designing the new house. Everyone was helping us with that. Edward and Emmett went on a few trips to Port Angeles and Seattle for furniture. Esme and I picked out the paint and other supplies from the local shop. Carlisle and Rose had discussions about what would be the purpose of so far non-occupied rooms.
The big L-shaped bedroom, just like I thought, was really liked by Rosalie. Carlisle and Esme took the second bedroom on the third floor. Rosalie and Carlisle agreed that the second bedroom on the second floor would be a guest room. The third door on the second floor that led to a room, that was conjoined with the other two smaller ones would become Carlisle's study, Esme's study, and a small library.
The big spacious room on the third floor would be another type of library. That room would be our research facility, where we would keep important documents and the wizarding books. I even had a small place in the corner for my potion supplies. We spent a few months helping Esme take down the walls she didn't want. Emmett and Rose were in charge of painting the feelings and walls with the new paint as well as changing the floorboards to new ones. Edward and I followed Esme's instructions and installed giant windows that she somehow found a way to ship from France. The house now had the window panel going vertically up from the first to the third floor in a few rows. That made the house not only look brighter during the day but also have a great view during the night when we could all watch the stars appear above the forest. Carlisle joked that he would be put in jail for fraud, as a simple doctor couldn't possibly afford a house like that.
I really liked the new house and how everything in it made sense. Esme decided on buying a piano, so Edward could play his music for us and put it next to the stairs on the first floor. The grand Piano looked very elegant and gave the house a wow factor. Esme also liked the university caps that I kept all these years, and she started making a family project out of it. Now, everyone who finished high school or college had to get a cap and save it for Esme. We were becoming a family with our own traditions, and I couldn't be happier.
We all went hunting together after we finished the house in early March. We did everything ourselves, so we were all proud. Carlisle just got a job at the hospital, and it would be our last family hunt for a while. We were running in the forest when a disgusting stink hit my nose, the rest of the family stopped too and got closer together. Whatever it was, it wasn't friendly. I heard growling coming from our right side and saw a few pairs of bright yellow eyes looking at us from the forest.
