Chapter 12
Surprise
The potion was coming together, after I added the ashwinder eggs the color changed and it didn't look as bad anymore. The horrible smell stayed, however, and I knew my family had to stop breathing around the house. Good thing that vampires didn't actually have to breathe, or I was afraid both Edward and I would be evicted along with our potion.
Early in the morning, right before we had to go to school, I added hemlock to the potion which once again made it change color to light yellow. The smell was still disgusting though. The only thing that was left was adding the strawberry stems, after which the potion had to be drunk immediately, so I decided to let it sit until we came back from school. Since Edward and I didn't know what the potion would do, we decided it was for the best. Alice predicted that for the next few days it would be sunny outside, so it was perfect timing.
The school went by slower than before, mostly because of my anticipation to come back home. Edward tried calming down my nerves and excitement, and so did Jasper as well. But it was impossible to contain my emotions for a long time, I was always impatient.
When the final bell rang, I rushed everyone out of the school, so we could get back home as quickly as possible. When we reached the driveway, I ran out of the car and into the kitchen area. I grabbed the strawberry stems out of the freezer and ran upstairs, patiently waiting right next to my cauldron for Edward. While I waited, I poured the potion from the cauldron into two glass phials that the recipe called for. The necks of the tubes were wide enough to get the stems inside them right before they were supposed to dissolve in the liquid.
"We are going out shopping." I heard Alice tell everyone outside. "Have fun." She giggled.
What was that supposed to mean? I would wonder, but I was just too excited to finally find out the secret Alice has been keeping from Edward and me.
"You ready, love?" Edward asked when he entered the room and started laughing when he saw me sitting on the floor with two light yellow tubes in my hands. He sat right next to me and grabbed one of the tubes from my hands.
"On three?" I asked a little nervous.
"One…Two…" We both reached for the stems. "Three." He spoke and we both dropped the stems into our tubes. The liquid started bubbling, burning away the strawberry stems inside it. The color changed to something that reminded me of sunset pink, it looked beautiful, and the liquid's smell completely changed, it smelled like caramel now. I took Edward's hand in mine and we both drank it together.
"Do you feel it?" Edward asked.
The sound of his voice thrilled me, and I couldn't answer. I couldn't stop staring at him. The unexplainable force pulled me closer to him. I wanted him to touch me so badly, so badly I could barely stand it. He was so amazing. So unbelievably gorgeous. I knew somewhere something was wrong, but it didn't seem important. Not when I was with him.
With almost a foot separating us, there was no way I could easily kiss his lips without his help. So instead, I aimed for his chest, wanting to taste that warm, smooth skin.
"Bella!" he exclaimed, moving closer to me.
I moved toward him again, needing to touch him and kiss him and do so many other things. When I moved closer, he reached out and gripped my wrists. With that touch, an electric current shot through both of us, and I saw him forget whatever we had just done. Something seized us, something that made us suddenly want each other more than we ever did before. More than when we were just a couple of in-love teenagers doing it for the first time.
Releasing my wrists, he moved his hands up my arms, sliding slowly along my skin. Holding me in his dark, hungry gaze, he pulled me to him, pressing me right up to his body. One of his hands moved up the back of my neck, twining his fingers in my hair and tipping my face up to his. He brought his lips down, barely brushing them against mine.
His lips moved to mine, gentle at first, and then hard and hungry. His kiss consumed me. His hands on my arms slid down, down my hips, down to the edge of my school dress. He gathered up the fabric in his hands and began pushing it up my legs. I melted into that touch, into his kiss and the way it burned against my mouth. His hands kept sliding up and up until he'd pulled the dress over my head and tossed it on the floor.
"You...you got rid of that dress fast," I pointed out between heavy breaths. "I thought you liked it."
"I do like it," he said. His breathing was as heavy as mine. "I love it."
And then he took me to the bed. Lying on the covers, we clung to each other and kept kissing. His hands and lips took possession of my body, and every touch was like fire on my skin. I liked the way he looked at me like I was the sexiest, most wonderful thing in the world. I liked the way he would say my name in different languages, he murmured it like a prayer.
And somewhere, somewhere in all of this, was that same urging voice that appeared right after I drank the potion, a voice that didn't sound like my own but that I was powerless to ignore. Stay with him, don't think about anything else except him. There is only him and you in this world now. I listened - not that I really needed any extra convincing.
The burning in his eyes told me he wanted to do a lot more than we were, and I took the lead. His dress pants were torn apart. I shifted so that I hovered over him, my hair hanging around him. He rolled me off of him and moved on top of me again. The kissing picked up once more, harder this time. More urgent.
This was the best time we ever had, better than anything I have experienced before. It lasted hours, we couldn't get enough of each other. This must be what heaven felt like, surrounded by love and passion and the true magic that I swore I could smell in the air. It was an unexplainable phenomenon and I thought at that moment that I knew the answer to all the questions in the world, I thought I was able to understand everything, even Physics. It was mind-blowing and wonderful, gentle, and rough at the same time.
I caught myself breathing heavily into Edward's chest, even though I didn't need air anymore. Alice deserved the car she asked for.
"That was…" Edward had to clear his throat; his voice sounded rugged.
"Yeah…" I spoke, lifting my head to look into his eyes.
"Wow." He stated simply, leaving a kiss on my nose.
We were both speechless for a few minutes. I enjoyed feeling his body so close to mine. I felt him brush his fingers against my back, and I purred.
"Want to go again?" I asked grinning at him.
"I wish we could, Carlisle and Esme will be home any minute." He spoke with a note of sadness.
"We could go away for a while, you know. We never actually had our honeymoon. I can make some more of that potion…" I chuckled.
"That's the best plan I've ever heard." He laughed with me. "Where would you want to go?"
"We could visit Isle Esme, no one has been there since Carlisle and Esme traveled over two decades ago." I proposed.
"Sandy beaches, waterfalls, and an island to ourselves…Cross what I've said before, that's the best plan I've ever heard." He chuckled and kissed me. "Do you think the family will be upset if we leave in the morning?"
"They will be fine, just need to ask Carlisle for the keys." I smiled at Edward. "Are we actually doing it?"
"I don't see why not. We can't go to school for the next few days anyway. Carlisle will get us paperwork saying that we're sick with some infectious disease and we'll come back in two weeks completely healthy."
We came downstairs around midnight, Alice quickly snatched me away, asking if I would want to go hunting. Her enthusiasm was overwhelming, so of course, I said yes. Letting go of Edward's hand felt like the hardest thing I've ever had to do. It felt like our fingers were superglued to each other. I sent him a kiss and ran outside with Alice.
To be frank, the events that happened earlier left me very hungry. I managed to get a few elks before I met up with Alice. I had a feeling that she would want to speak to me since she was so eager to go for a hunt right as Edward and I came downstairs.
"Soo…Did he rock your world? Was it not the best advice from me that you've received?" She smirked.
"Yes, yes, you are the best sister, and I should listen to you more often." I shook my head and laughed.
"And…" her smile grew wider.
"Thank you for keeping it a surprise." I rolled my eyes.
"I bet you did a lot of that motion this afternoon." She giggled.
"Alice!" I gasped. I took some snow from the ground and quickly turned it into a snowball. I threw it at her while she was still laughing.
"Bella, this is a designer sweater!" She exclaimed and took some snow from the ground as well. "This is war!"
I felt something hit me before my eyes could register it. I felt my lips pucker and a small growl escaped my lips. "I'll show you little pixie." I chuckled and started collecting snow from the ground. Alice did the same, and we started our snowball fight.
We came back home completely wet and with huge smiles on our faces. I haven't had so much fun playing a kid's game in a while. Esme gave us a shocked look and ordered us to get out of the house and enter it through the windows of our rooms to not get her floors wet. She was such a mom, I sometimes forgot we weren't actually her children. She definitely scolded us like we were.
When we went back outside, Alice and I hugged before going our separate directions toward the windows of our rooms.
"Have fun on the island." She spoke before jumping upstairs. Of course, she already knew about our impromptu trip. I smiled to myself and hopped into the second-floor open window.
Edward was waiting for me there. He already knew about Alice's and my snowball fight from reading her thoughts, so I didn't have to explain my look. I undressed and threw my wet clothes into the laundry basket before hopping in the shower. Edward told me we would be leaving in a few hours. We would have to apparate to Montana first, there were no flights available from Juno.
We said our goodbyes to the family, and I received another hug from Alice and a wink from Emmett. Everyone wished us to have some fun and an amazing honeymoon and we apparated from the living room. We had our clothes packed in my charmed bag, as well as most of the ingredients for the 'Hybrid love' potion and my cauldron.
We weren't planning to use the potion a lot, but it was our way to spice things up a little during our impromptu vacation. We caught a flight from Helena to New York, we stopped in Quito, Ecuador to refuel before we arrived in Rio. I liked flying on planes, Edward was right next to me, and I had my books. The vacation was already becoming the best idea I've had. I loved my family with all my heart, but it was nice to spend some time away from each other, with just my husband. And it was also nice calling him my husband to the airport employees. I liked my wedding and engagement rings being on their rightfully owned fingers.
"Do you remember our first date?" He chuckled while we walked through the night streets of Rio.
"That beautiful picnic that you organized for us next to the Black Lake? Of course." I smiled at him.
"Do you consider that our first date?" He asked me surprised.
"Do you not?" I asked copying his tone.
"I always thought our first date happened in the library when we were assigned a DADA paper." He shrugged his shoulders.
"What? It was barely a date; you were too occupied with getting me to do the whole paper by myself." I giggled.
"Was not!" He gasped, trying to look like he was shocked by my accusations, but we could both see through his fake reaction. Edward and I laughed, he held me closer to him. "Well, maybe I did a little, but to be completely honest, you charmed me that night. You were so smart and looked so beautiful when your quill touched your nose. You constantly had to squint it because it tickled. I think that was the night I truly knew you had my heart."
His words made me giggle.
"I remember I was mad at you that night. I thought you were just another boy who was fortunate enough to have the smart girl, who liked reading books, do their assignment for them."
"Wow!" He spoke. "And I thought that evening went so great. You know my roommates made fun of me for the whole semester after they saw me after."
"Is that where 'lovely-eyes Diggory' came from?" I asked.
"Yep." He chuckled. "I forgot they called me that. I remember the 'pretty boy Diggory' though."
"Oh, that one might be on me." I laughed. "Fred and I sat together in Charms the day after our evening in the library, I was so mad, I said something along the lines of 'that pretty boy Diggory thinks he can just swoop in and charm everyone with his gorgeous hair and crooked smile'."
"So you think my hair is gorgeous?" he asked smiling my favorite crooked smile.
"Shut up." I chuckled and shook my head. "When I said that, I was charmed by you already. I think I loved you from the first day we met, right from the very start, I knew I found a home for my heart with you." I looked up at him when he stopped walking.
"I love you so much, my Bella." He whispered and cupped my face with his hands. We kissed in the middle of the street.
"Of course, Fred wasn't oblivious, and he quickly figured out that I was in love with you. Oh, how much he taunted me about it until you finally asked me out to that picnic." I spoke after we kissed.
We laughed together, remembering how our relationship started and how young we were at that time. Edward and I have been together for nearly half a decade now and our love was stronger than ever.
We reached the waterfront after about an hour's walk and Edward took the captain seat of the Cullen boat. He helped me get on board, like the true gentleman he was. He placed me on his lap while he navigated through the dark waters. I admired the stars and the amazing man next to me until we reached the island. Edward docked the boat and lifted me up in his arms. He liked doing that when I wasn't expecting it. I gave him a kiss on the cheek, and he walked into a little cottage right on the beach.
He placed me in the main hallway, and I took off my shoes, not wanting to get any sand in it. I looked around the rooms, most of the walls were made of glass, opening the breathtaking view of the ocean and the jungle that started right behind the cottage. I placed my bag on the bed in the master bedroom and came back into the hallway to kiss Edward.
"I'll race you to the water," I spoke as our lips disconnected. I saw him smirk; his hands traveled to his button-up shirt.
I started running, quickly stripping myself out of my floral dress and my undergarments. My feet reached the water and I pushed myself up in the air, diving further into the ocean. While I was still under, I heard a loud noise entering the waters and a moment later, I felt hands on my waist. I followed the hands up and saw Edward smiling at me. His hair was an utter mess, it was even worse underwater.
I put my hand through them, sliding them down onto his shoulders. He swam up, dragging both of our bodies to the surface.
"I win," I spoke when our faces were up. He gave me a small kiss on the lips. "I think I win something more than that." I pout and he pulls me closer, deepening our kiss. "That's very close."
"Insatiable." Edward's lips touch mine again, and his tongue slides into my mouth. I bite his lip gently and hear a growl escape his mouth. And the honeymoon begins now.
Edward and I spent a few days not leaving the cottage. I felt bad for people who would have to replace the bed in the master bedroom…along with the kitchen table, shower curtains, and the chairs on the porch. Most of those were victims of the potion, except for the kitchen table…I was always interested in that idea.
The honeymoon wasn't all about sex, of course, so we spent some of the days exploring the vast jungles, that covered the island. We swam in the ocean and jumped from the waterfalls, tried swinging on the lianas, and climbed the tallest tree, which let us see the whole island from the top. We went to the jungles of Rio a few times to hunt, the wildlife of South America was exotic, and we got a few jaguars and pumas. They tasted like the mountain lions from back home. I refused to hunt any monkeys as they were so cute. Besides the cuteness, I couldn't help but think they would taste closer to deer as they were mostly herbivores.
It was a few days before we were supposed to come back home when I started feeling like something was wrong. It felt like a stomachache, at least I thought it did. I haven't had a stomachache for nearly 300 years now. Besides that, I felt nauseating, just like that time Emmett dared me to eat a piece of cake in the school cafeteria. Edward was as confused as I. A day after that, right after we went for a morning swim and were sitting in the living room watching a movie, I felt a light kick in my stomach. My hand quickly went to the spot, and I looked at Edward worriedly. He cupped my hand with his and opened his mouth to say something. The landline phone rang at the same second. I nodded to Edward, telling him to answer it. He was reluctant to leave my side, but still stood up and came to pick up the phone.
"Surprise!" Alice's voice screamed from the other end of the phone.
I know this chapter is short and full of fluff, but I couldn't help myself, it was bound to come out. Let me know what you think! Did you guess what the potion would do?
