A/N: I've been wanting to write a Goldstein sister story for awhile and after watching Secrets of Dumbledore needed something to help work on resolving things between them. I always hated how things were left after the second movie and having them talking was cathartic.
Warnings: There is the occasional swear word. Also this story is unbeta'd so future apologies for any grammatical mistakes.
Disclaimer: I do not own Fantastic Beasts and make no money from writing this.
It was completely a gamble. From what she observed Queenie rarely joined Grindelwald for the few times, where he was spotted in public. So there was a good chance she wouldn't show up with him at this rally. But Tina was willing to take that chance with the combined efforts of Lally and Yusef, Tina was going to be looking for her window.
Concealing herself in the shadows she felt a small part of herself soar, when she spotted a short curly haired platinum blonde amidst his group. Now the rest of the plan had to go right. Waiting for just the right moment when Grindelwald's speech was done, Lally and Yusef took the idea of diversion to a whole new level. And once the chaos broke out, Tina locked eyes on her target and sprinted forward.
As soon as she was behind her, she grabbed on and apparated them away to an awaiting port-key that would then transport them to a cliff-side in Norway. Tina felt herself shaking as the adrenaline wore off, and her actual plan's success. She found herself at wand point, as soon as Queenie regained her wits. Though that didn't last long, when the blonde realized who exactly had kidnapped her.
"Tina?" Lowering her wand.
The quiet question of shock was enough to nearly tip her bubbling cauldron of emotions, and Tina only barely reigned it in. "Queenie."
"Where...Oh why did you bring us here?"
"Because you and I are long overdue for a much needed conversation." Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes Tina tried for calm. But it was difficult due to all the anger, pain, and confusion that had been ignited and brewing in her ever since her sister had left. But at the same time she was still so stupidly happy to see her still alive after so long. "Whatever happens I promise, I won't draw my wand on you."
Surprisingly her sister actually looked semi hurt at that remark. "And you think I will do that to you?"
"Honestly? I don't know what to think Queenie, because I never imagined that my baby sister would follow the likes of someone like Grindelwald."
Even saying his name brought back the memories of everything he'd done or that his followers had done in his name. All the raids, all the attacks she saw working at the Ministry and lastly that night in Paris where everything nearly went up in a blue blaze. Queenie flinched when she saw the aftermath of the night through Tina's eyes, and how Jacob was nearly killed before Tina cast her protection spell. Not nearly as good as her sister Tina knew the question on her lips, even before she finished asking it.
"Is he-?"
"Jacob's alive." Heartbroken and slightly depressed but alive she left out before adding. "He still has hope for you."
Queenie's eyes went distant and sad before looking away. "Am I safe to assume you don't?"
Crossing her arms Tina retorted. "I never said that, but I need you to answer my first question which is do you know where they're keeping Theseus?"
"Yes," Queenie admitted quickly, as Tina closed her eyes at the confirmation both she and Newt had suspected for weeks. "But he won't let me be in the room with him alone. I'm only allowed in there for interrogations. There's not much I can do with his eyes on me."
That made sense, and Tina was really hoping that Queenie wasn't just telling her what she wanted to hear. She tried reinforcing her shields before carefully thinking about what she wanted to ask. However once more her emotions got away from her, and she found herself asking "How?"
"How could my kind hearted and gentle sister take the side of that murderous fanatic? How could you be willing to give up Everything to join him?"
"Teenie you need to bring me back right now." Queenie stressed eyes shifting around for the port-key. "You're going to put us both in a lot of danger the longer I stay."
"I'm not going to call you crazy, but you're close to it. If you think I'm going to let you go back anywhere near him."
Queenie's face dropped into disbelief, while Tina's tightened in anger as it was slowly building. "Answer the question because Jacob and I have been blaming ourselves for months thinking that if we had done things differently you wouldn't have left. But I've come to realize that's only a question you can answer. So please enlighten me."
"Because at the time he was the only one offering me a chance! Jacob was refusing to marry me because of the laws, and you agreed with them!" Queenie gripped the sides of her arms tightly before turning around. "Just like you always do with every law. So when he told me he was rebuilding our world to become a place with new opportunities. One where we could love who we want and wouldn't need to hide our magic. I believed him."
Tina's disbelief and pity must have gotten past her shields and been broadcasting at this point in her thoughts, because Queenie responded lightning quick. "Don't you think I know by now that I was wrong? I'm reminded every day! I barely get to leave the castle, and I can't go a single day without being asked to monitor Creedance's thoughts and those in his service." Lowering her voice she added softer. "And I've seen what they've done to Theseus how they've tortured him for information. This isn't a world I want to be a part of."
"So leave him and come back with me."
"I can't!" Queenie exclaimed with notes of stress. "He would go after all of us. There are worse things than death Tina. I now know what he's capable of. We'd be exactly in Theseus' spot right now. And I don't want you or Jacob or Newt hurt. Please Tina just let me go."
"No." That would happen over Tina's dead body. "I did that once. I can't do that again so don't ask me too."
Queenie flinched at the expression before turning sad. "I made a lot of bad decisions, and I'm sorry. I didn't mean to leave you or hurt anyone." Her voice wavered as it grew teary. "I just wanted a life with Jacob, one where we could be happy together. I didn't mean for things to turn out this way."
"I know you didn't" Tina answered back just as quietly. Because above all else that was the sister she knew. One whose heart was worn on her sleeve and empathetic to others. While Tina tended to make decisions more with logic or aligned with the governing rules, Queenie tended to decide with her heart or what felt right to her. It was something Grindlewald knew and took advantage of. Both maddening and entirely what Tina would expect from someone like him.
Her sister stepped closer into her personal space trying to impress her idea. "I know I messed up Teenie, but if you take me back I can try to make this right. I can spy for your side. I spent long enough with him that I can try to feed you any information I get."
"Queenie." Tina shook her head. "He doesn't even let you in the same room as Theseus. I doubt he completely trusts you, and how are you going to feed us any information? No it's not safe and too much can go wrong. We can't risk it."
"Please," She implored. "At least let me try and do this for you."
Stepping even closer Tina held her sister's face in her hands. "Hey. I'm sorry too, okay? I'm sorry I made you feel brushed off, and that I wouldn't listen to you or help. But you can make this right by coming with me and helping our side defeat him. Dumbledore knows him best, and I believe he has a plan. I promise we'll get Theseus back and keep Jacob safe. But I really need you to come with me." She wiped a stray tear away with her thumb. "Will you finally come home?"
Letting out a teary laugh, Queenie answered. "You still want me too after all I've done?"
Tina responded to that by wrapping her up in a tight hug. "Deliverance Dane, I missed you so much."
"I really missed you too." As Queenie returned the hug, not letting go for a while. Their jackets gripped in the other's hands, as if afraid things would shift and they'd be separated once more. There would be more to discuss and sort out later on, but for now Tina finally got her wish and was a bit more at peace.
