He held his hand out for the six or seven-year-old boy hoping he'd give it a friendly shake, however, the young boy still young and innocent enough surprisingly did not yet know this familiar greeting. Actually, as though he was on some sort of alien planet he just looked from the hand stretch out before him to the face that held the ownership of which the hand and arm belonged.
Hi, I'm Peter- uh, Pan" he replied flatly. Jack starred in awe and complete shock, the biggest smile planted on his face.
"Y- you can see me?" Peter nodded. "Can you hear me?" he asked a little bit more enthusiastically instead of out of curiosity. Peter nodded again. "Amazing!" The winter spirit exclaimed happily, flipping out in the process.
"Yes," Peter replied, somewhat flatly though still managed to smile and do a bit of a little, semi-sounding sarcastic laugh.
"So, what brings another 'human' like yourself to these parts?"
Peter sighed and replied, "Honestly I don't know… all I know is that no one can see me, I tried to play with some kids earlier but they just ran right through"
"Oh… well, I guess that in a way you are just like me, my friend"
"You?" Peter blinked, "How?"
"Well, after I— you know— passed away the moon chose me to…?"
"Become a guardian?" Peter finished.
"Huh?" Jack turned, looked up, and smiled. "Yeah, th- that's right… h, how did you know?"
"He talked to me too, said he chose me because I'm so child-like" Peter shrugged, not believing a word.
"Well, well, well, looks like you know all there is to know about this guardian stuff already" he smirked, chuckling lightly.
"Yeah, but… I don't want to be a guardian" Peter pouted.
"Why? I love being a guardian… why, I get to play all day and get to help children all around the world to keep believing in us"
"Sounds like too much work" Peter retorted. "and besides, being a guardian sounds like all hard work and deadlines; when in truth I just wanna have fun" he spread his arms out wide and made some sort of a jet engine sound with his mouth.
Jack couldn't help but watch and marvel in awe and wonder at the little boy's carefree spirit, North has his work cut out for him Jack thought as he continued watching as the little boy came shooting past, whooshing by, not a care in the world and the burden of being a guardian temporarily forgotten.
