Fragile Hearts: Sixteen

I can't believe this.

The four walked around the amusement park aimlessly, going on multitudes of rides. Hinata however hadn't said a word to Naruto as she was still trying to get over the fact that Sasuke had set her up.

They were currently getting cotton candy and she and Sakura decided to wait by the face painting booth. The Hyūga's lavender eyes were glued to her shoes as she waited patiently. Suddenly Sakura nudged her arm with her elbow. "Huh?" She asked looking at her.

"Aww look at her," she answered pointing to a brown haired toddler scampering around with her ice cream. A butterfly with blue, black and yellow wings was painted on her face. "She's so cute!" Her friend squealed causing her to smile.

"Yeah," Hinata responded as they both watched her.

"You've been quiet," Sakura said breaking the happy moment.

The midnight blue haired girl hung her head, "sorry...I-it's just that—"

"No need to explain," she said cutting her off. "I understand."

"Do you?"

The pinkette nodded and turned to face her, "it's Naruto, isn't it?"

Hinata frowned, "yes and no."

Sakura sighed and placed her hands on her hips, "well whatever he did to you, I know for sure that he's extremely sorry."

"That's just it," she whispered. "He didn't do anything wrong...I did."

The jade green eyed girl furrowed her eyebrows, "want to talk about it?" She shook her head in response, it wouldn't be right...she needed to apologize to Naruto before making their problem open to others.

"Why the long faces?" Sasuke asked once he found them.

"Nothing, Hinata and I were just talking about some girl stuff," Sakura said quickly. The Uchiha glanced at Hinata who refused the make eye contact before nodding.

"Well...here you go," he said extending both arms holding their cotton candy. His fiancée took hers, but the pale girl simply stared at the one offered to her. "What's wrong Hinata?"

She shook her head, "I just don't like the pink one."

Sasuke face palmed with his free hand, "oh yeah, sorry." His onyx eyes roamed over the long line and he groaned as he thought of joining it again.

"That line is a nightmare," Sakura said, basically voicing her fiancé's thoughts.

"Tell me about it," Naruto said joining them at least. They all turned to look at him, in his hand was a blue cotton candy, but based on the size of it, it was obvious that the blonde had already started eating it. "But it's over."

"Not quite," Sasuke said.

"Hmm? What do you mean?" Naruto asked taking another bite out of his candy.

The raven haired man gestured to the cotton candy he was still holding. "Hinata hates the pink one."

Cerulean blue eyes clashed with lavender ones just then and the Uzumaki swallowed before speaking. "Uh...well, d-do you want mine? Sorry I started eating it already."

Hinata blushed crimson and Sakura squealed, "aww! This is so cute!"

Sasuke rolled his eyes and ran a hand through his hair. "I-It's fine." The Hyūga said shyly.

"No really, you can have it," Naruto insisted holding it in front of her. She hesitated before lifting her hand and wrapping her slender fingers around the thin stick it was on. The blonde smiled as she took it from him.

"Thank you," she blushed.

"No problem."

"So what am I going to do with this?" Sasuke interjected.

Sakura raised her hand just then, "I want it."

"Knock yourself out," he said giving it to her. The pinkette rolled her eyes and grabbed onto his arm. "H-hey what are you doing?"

"It's time for you to start winning stuffed animals for me," she said pulling him away from Naruto and Hinata.

"What are you, five?" He complained as she continued to pull him.

"Don't you love me?"

"Of course I—"

"Then stop complaining!" Sakura looked behind her and offered her two friends a sweet smile. "Meet up with you guys later." Naruto raised his hand to awkwardly wave at them and to his surprise Hinata did too. They both looked at each other and chuckled, Sakura was definitely something else.

After their laughter died down, then came the awkward silence. The Hyūga spun her body from side to side as she ate silently, while Naruto looked for something to start off their conversation. Scratching his head he looked around and cleared his throat which caught her attention. "Do you...maybe want to ride the carousel with me." Hinata bit the inside of her cheek as she tried to contain her laughter. She looked up at him with wide eyes and pink tainted cheeks. "What?" He asked laughingly, aware of her holding back her giggles.

She smiled and looked away, shaking her head she took another bite of her cotton candy. "Nothing."

"Come on, tell me," he said unable to let go of the opportunity to talk to her.

A giggle escaped her pink painted lips and she turned to face him again. "It's just your face...when you asked me," she laughed.

"My face?" He asked getting a feeling of déjà vu, it was the same thing at the restaurant. She didn't elaborate on the joke and he merely furrowed his eyebrows and smiled down at her in utter confusion. "What?"

She shook her head, trying to stop her laughing. "I'll go with you."

"Good," he grinned grabbing her arm. "Well come on, before the line gets longer." It took her by surprise, causing her to almost trip over her own two feet. Naruto's hold on her arm was firm and he didn't look back. She tried to keep up with his long strides while staring at the back of his head in a dazed state. Why couldn't things be this simple?

They joined the moving line, but Naruto made sure that she was in front of him. She finished her cotton candy and started playing with the stick. "Naruto-kun," she said gaining his attention.

"Hmm?"

"I... I uh, I'm sorry," Hinata said moving up in the line.

"For?" He asked looking at her.

She frowned and waved the stick as though it were a magic wand, which resulted in it poking the man in front of her. The Hyūga gasped and her eyes widened when he turned around, "s-sorry!" But he merely grimaced at her before turning away.

Naruto chuckled and took the stick away from her. "I'll take that."

Hinata frowned, "I'm so sorry."

"Hey, it was an accident," he said trying to cheer her up.

"Not that...f-for hurting you." She confessed. The guilt was eating her for the past two weeks. "I shouldn't have yelled at you a-and—"

Naruto shook his head and lifted his hand, "it's okay...It was wrong of me to kiss you without your permission anyway."

"But I-I kissed back," she said pleading with him with her eyes. She just wanted to get it off her chest and for him to forgive her. "I'm to blame as well."

The blonde sighed, "apology received."

Hinata gave him a weird look, "received? Not accepted?"

"I'll accept it if you promise me two things," he said with a mischievous smile. She should have known this was coming.

"Which are?" She inquired as the like started moving. It was their turn, Naruto helped her straddle her horse before getting on his which was right next to hers.

"One, that you'll stop avoiding me," he said as the ride started. It went slow at first and the Hyūga tightened her hold around the pole attached to her horse.

"Okay, and number two?"

"Do you promise?" He pressed.

Hinata looked at him, "yes."

He smiled and looked ahead of them as it started to speed up. "Two. That you'll stop beating yourself up about it and enjoy tonight."

A smile crept it's way onto her face as she gazed at him. He sounded like Sasuke and for that she felt the need to agree with him. It was time she gave herself what she deserved, which was a break from all the guilt...she was only human and she was bound to make mistakes. She simply needed to surround herself with people who wouldn't leave her every time she messed up. And luckily, Naruto fit the bill. Nodding she bit her bottom lip, "I promise."

No more running away from him.

...

"Ugh," Naruto groaned tilting his head back against the back of the bench. Hinata sat beside him nursing his upset stomach.

"I told you not to go on that rollercoaster until your food was digested." She said scolding him. He merely looked at her through the corners of his eyes and rubbed his stomach.

"I think I'm gonna throw up," he said leaning forward. The pale girl quickly placed her hands on his shoulders and gently pushed him back against the bench.

"Whoa," she heard coming from in front of them. "What happened to him?" Sasuke asked.

"He has an upset stomach," Hinata answered for him since he wasn't up for conversation at that moment.

Sasuke smirked, "idiot—ouch!" He exclaimed when the pink haired girl beside him punched his arm.

"Stop being so mean." She said as he nursed his assaulted arm. Shoving the stuffed tiger she had in her hands at him she crouched down in front of Naruto.

Sasuke rolled his eyes and sat beside Hinata. "So," he started which caught her attention. "Did you and Naruto kiss and make up?"

"I apologized," she said making sure the he didn't get any weird ideas about the two of them. "We're okay now."

The Uchiha nodded and they both turned their attention back to Naruto. "I think we should get him home."

"Alright," Sasuke said getting up. He gave Hinata Sakura's stuffed tiger and bag then helped his best friend to stand. However once they started walking Naruto pulled away in search of something to vomit in. Hinata watched as he staggered towards the bathroom with Sasuke following to offer help.

Sakura shook her head, "I swear he's an idiot." The Hyūga laughed and handed Sakura her stuff. "Thanks."

"No problem."

"You and Naruto good again?" Hinata nodded and the pinkette smiled, "good."

"I guess you and Sasuke-san's plan worked."

Sakura laughed, "yeah...but for the record, it was my plan."

The lavender eyed girl turned to look at her with arched eyebrows, "so I should thank you then."

"You're welcome," Sakura giggled.

Naruto returned from the bathroom seeming fine. They spent some more time at the park before leaving. Sasuke wanted to drop Naruto home, but he insisted that he was well enough to ride his motorbike home.

"What about you Hinata?" Sasuke asked. "Want us to drop you home or are you going with Naruto?"

"Ugh...I'll just take the bus," she said glancing at Naruto who was leaning against his bike.

"What? Come with us, it's no trouble," the Uchiha replied.

"Really, I don't want to be—"

Sakura smirked at her, "clearly she wants to go with Naruto," she said walking around to the passenger's side and opening the door.

The blonde blushed and scratched his cheek. Hinata blushed as well but didn't disagree, "really?" Sasuke pressed.

"Sasuke come on and stop embarrassing her!" Sakura yelled from inside the car. He groaned and opened the door to the driver's seat.

"Alright, well...stay safe," he said looking between Naruto and Hinata. "Both of you."

The Uzumaki nodded and watched as Sasuke got in the car. "Bye guys!" Sakura waved as they drove off.

Hinata waved back and watched as they left. Once the car was out of sight she turned to Naruto in the awkward silence. She rocked back on her heels and Naruto picked up his helmet and walk towards her slowly. "Have you ever done this before?"

"I'd be lying if I said I did," she said looking at him. He chuckled and the very sound of it made the butterflies in her stomach do back flips. He slowly placed the helmet over her head and fixed her hair.

"Well you can trust me," he said stepping back. "I'll take care of you." To Hinata those words meant so much more to her. She looked at him through the hard plastic on the helmet and smiled, slowly but surely she was beginning to trust him. He took her hand and led her towards his motorbike, "need help getting on?"

"Ugh...I-I think I got it," she said placing her hands on the leather seat. Naruto nodded and stepped back, his blue eyes watched as she tried to swing her right leg over it. On her second attempt he had to turn away to hold in his laughter.

There was a small scream which alerted him, he spun around and was by her side before she could fall. "Need my help now?" He asked arching his eyebrows.

"Yes please," she whispered grateful that the helmet hid her crimson tainted cheeks. He smiled and shook his head before lifting her off her feet. It caught the pale girl by surprise resulting in her wrapping her arms around his neck quickly. He chuckled and placed her on the motorbike carefully.

Lifting the hard plastic that protected her eyes he stared at her with a grin on his face. "You okay?" She nodded and he pulled it back down. "Good." Naruto got his keys from his pocket and mounted the bike carefully. He leaned forward and started the engine, but his heart practically stopped when he felt two hands close around his stomach. They were small and shaking slightly; he placed a hand on hers and squeezed them to reassure her. Releasing her hand his feet left the ground and they were off.

The further they got, the more Hinata inched closer. After a few minutes, they came to a stoplight that was on red and he asked her if she was okay. "Well I'm still alive, so I guess that's a good sign," she replied. He laughed and she smiled while resting her helmet covered head against his back.

They started moving again, this time a lot faster but she didn't mind. She was having fun, more fun than she had in years. The sound of the bike's engine rang in her ears along with the pounding of her heart. They switched lanes and she was met by a beautiful scenery. Across the water was the amusement park they'd just left, its glowing lights reflected in the water. She lifted her head up to look at the many street lights they passed, she was literally flourishing under their electric glow. Her hands tightened around his stomach and at that moment she knew that she didn't want to let him go.
