Fragile Hearts: Twenty-One

"Hey Hinata," at the sound of her name the Hyūga perked up.

"Hmm?"

"Have you seen my charger?" Tenten asked looking under her bed. "I can't find it any-"

"You mean the charger Neji-nii borrowed from you yesterday?" She asked looking up from her book.

"Ugh!" The brunette face palmed and sat on her bed. "I swear, he never returns things."

Hinata giggled, "it's your fault for letting him borrow it in the first place."

Tenten glared at her playfully, "oh shut up." The light from the pale girl's phone screen caught both their attention as it was at the foot of her bed. "Who are you talking to?"

"No one," she said quickly reaching for the phone but she was too slow, Tenten got to it first.

Her chocolate eyes darted from the phone screen to her friend then back at the mobile device. She smirked as she read the message she'd received, "Toneri, of course." Hinata blushed and dropped her text book before grabbing her phone. "I don't see why you're shy, our entire year group knows you two are seeing each other."

"It's not like that," she said reading the message. Tenten deadpanned and she glanced at her after a few moments of silence, "okay maybe it is like that...but, he's different from other guys." The brunette stuck her tongue out and pretended to gag at her friend's statement. "Stop it," she said throwing at pillow at her.

The pigtailed girl laughed and caught the pillow, "so are you going?"

"What?"

"To the party, I read the message, remember?" She said moving to sit on the Hyūga's bed. Hinata shrugged and moved over to give her space, "come on, you have to go."

"I don't have to."

Tenten deadpanned, "it's your boyfriend's party-"

"It's a frat party."

"So? It'll be fun. Live a little." She said taking back her phone and jumping off her bed.

Hinata frowned and got up, "Tenten," she said running after her. "Give it back," Tenten tried dodging her while typing, eventually she ended up jumping on her own bed.

"There you go," she said with a smile hanging her the device.

The midnight blue haired girl took it and read what Tenten had sent. "I really hate you."

"Love you too Hina," she said blowing her a kiss.

Hinata rolled her eyes, "are you coming?"

Tenten shook her head, "study night with your annoying cousin."

"Good luck with that. Maybe Kiba-kun is going...I'll ask."

"You do that, now I'm going to go get my charger," she replied getting her almost dead phone from her bed and leaving. Hinata shook her head and giggled, the people in her life were really crazy, but that's why she loved them. She knew her roommate had a thing for Neji, it was obvious no matter how hard she tried to hide it. It was fun watching them and even more fun teasing them.

Her phone started ringing just then and she answered quickly. "Hello?"

"Alright, what's your answer?" Toneri spoke on the other end.

She smiled and sat on her bed, "I just gave you one."

"No, Tenten did."

The Hyūga giggled, "how'd you know?"

"I think I know my girlfriend by now," he chuckled on the other end and her heart began beating faster. They were dating for four months now and everything seemed perfect, he was perfect.

"I guess you do," she replied flustered.

"So? Are you coming?"

"I-I don't know. I mean Tenten won't be there a-and-"

Toneri scoffed, "you have me."

"But I-"

"Come on Hinata, tonight it'll just be us," the shaggy haired boy said trying to convince her.

Hinata bit the inside of her cheek, "okay."

"Great, I'll pick you up at seven."

"Yeah...I'll be ready," she whispered looking around the room.

"Bye babe," with that said he hung up. The Hyūga fell back on her bed and stared at the ceiling...she needed to figure out what to wear.

...

It was 6:57 p.m. and Tenten had just left to meet up with Neji. She'd helped Hinata get ready and had wished her luck. The Hyūga didn't bother calling Kiba, she felt that she couldn't depend on him forever and since Toneri would be there she'd be safe. Besides she was 22 and old enough to take care of herself if anything should happen.

Two more minutes passed before there was a knock on her door, smiling she got up to answer it. As she had predicted, it was her boyfriend, "you're early."

Her white haired counterpart smiled, "by one minute. By the way, you look lovely."

"Thank you," she replied. She was dressed in a deep blue ruffle-trim sleeveless skater dress with matching sandals. Turning away Hinata got her phone and bag before joining Toneri outside.

"Ready?" He asked taking her hand. She nodded and they started walking out of the dorm. Once they reached his car he opened the door for her and she got inside. Hinata sighed while fastening her seatbelt as he got inside. "Did you invite Kiba?" He asked starting the car.

The midnight blue haired girl shook her head, "no, why?"

He frowned and they started moving, "you know how he gets when I'm around."

"He's just a little overprotective," she said softly.

"Or jealous," Toneri muttered. "Besides I'm the one who should be overprotective of you."

She blushed and looked away, "well he's not coming tonight."

"Good." The two made small talk on their way to the party, but the closer they got was the more nervous Hinata became. She hated parties because there were so many people and worse it was a frat party, meaning reckless behaviour. The only reason why she was going was because Toneri asked and as his girlfriend she felt obligated to accompany him. It's only for a few hours...you can do it.

They finally got there and the music could be heard from outside. Toneri opened the car door for her and helped her out, on the front lawn there were people watching them...or her, it wasn't everyday you saw Hinata Hyūga at a frat party.

"Guys!" He shouted once they were inside and were passing the living room. A few males smiled and waved him over, "be right back," he said giving her a kiss on the cheek.

"W-well I..." She trailed off since he was already halfway into the living room. The Hyūga sighed and shifted from one foot to the next, she was alone.

"Excuse me," she heard a male voice say a few feet away from her. He repeated it until she felt a pair of hands on her arms moving her out of the way. "Excuse-Hinata?"

Her lavender eyes clashed with his onyx ones before she recognized who he was. "Sasuke-san."

"What are you doing here?" He asked but then they both heard Toneri speaking in the next room, "oh."

"Yeah..." She said rubbing her arms. "A-are you staying?"

The Uchiha shook his head, "no I was just on my way out."

"Oh...o-okay," she said. Sasuke nodded and continued making his way out. Hinata sighed and looked around, as she expected there were a lot of people, dancing, drinking, talking, watching television and of course making out. To say she felt uncomfortable was an understatement, she wished she was with Tenten and Neji or even Kiba...they understood her.

As if he could sense her discomfort, Toneri came back and placed his arm over her shoulders, "this isn't your scene." She shook her head and he frowned, "just stay for a while, then I'll take you home."

"But it's so crowded down here and loud," she complained as a girl pushed pass her.

"Then come with me, it's quieter upstairs," he said.

Hinata winced as the music got louder, "what?"

"Upstairs," he repeated tugging on her arm. Before she could respond a boy walked pass her smoking causing her to hold her breathe. Toneri rolled his eyes and pulled her up the stairs with him, he only stopped when they reached his room at the end of the hall. "Better?"

"I guess," she answered looking around.

"I'm sorry, my housemates go all out when it comes to parties." She nodded and he took off his jacket. Hinata had never been in his room before, sure she came to his house a few times, but that was only to discuss projects for class and other things school related. "Hinata."

"Hmm?" She asked snapping out of her thoughts.

"Sit with me," he said sitting on his bed and patting the spot next to him.

"I-I'm okay," she said with a nervous smile.

Toneri deadpanned, "you're doing it again."

"Doing what?"

"Being a stiff," he elaborated as he stood up. Taking slow steps towards her he placed his hands on her shoulders. "Relax, it's just me." He managed to get her to sit down but Hinata was still having second thoughts, she knew things happened at parties thanks to watching a lot of movies. But Toneri wouldn't do-

"What are you doing?" She asked leaning back.

The pale man sighed and rolled his eyes, "I was trying to kiss you, but apparently that's a problem."

I don't like it here.

Hinata got to her feet just then, "I want to go home."

"You promised to stay," he said also standing.

"Toneri-kun...I-I just don't feel comfortable being in here with y-you," she explained glancing at the door, but he soon came and blocked her view.

"Then would you prefer being in here with someone else?"

"N-no I just-"

Toneri scoffed cutting her off, "you really are just a goodie two shoes aren't you?"

A frown crept it's way onto her lips, "what?"

"You think you're so much better than everyone else Hinata. Just because you're a Hyūga you-"

"I'm not like that," Hinata interjected cutting him off. She couldn't believe that she was hearing that-from him! He was her boyfriend, he said he loved her and he'd protect her, but here he was spitting out hurtful words at her just because she wanted to go home.

The white haired man smirked, "really? Then kiss me."

She frowned and looked away, she was in no mood to kiss him or to even continue talking to him. "I'm going home," she spat walking pass him, but he grabbed her arm and pulled her back to him. Hinata winced and tried to pull her hand back, but he merely grabbed her other arm, spinning her around to face him. "Let go," she grimaced.

"Why? Am I hurting you?" He asked tightening his hold on her arm, she stared at it, knowing there'd be a bruise there.

"Yes. Now let go," she said thrashing against him.

He rolled his eyes and threw her on the bed, "you want to know something Hinata? The only reason why I dated you was because of a dare." He explained crawling onto the bed, she tried to roll away from him, but he grabbed her left wrist and swiftly pinned her down. "If I could get Little Miss Perfect in bed then that would boost my popularity."

"Stop, please," Hinata whispered on the brink of tears. She couldn't believe what she was hearing, ever since she could remember boys had constantly asked her out, but she'd always turned them down and focused on her studies. Sure she was called 'stuck up' by her peers but she didn't mind since she had friends who would stand up for her and who understood her...but everything changed when he came into her life. He seemed different from all the other guys, he was sweet and appeared to be genuine...she knew then that she was wrong. "I said stop!" She yelled and slapped him.

Toneri froze momentarily and she took the opportunity to push him off her. Tears blurred her vision, but she managed to find the door, she tried to open it, but it was locked. Her hands shook as she kept on pulling at the doorknob, until a pair of hands grabbed her by the waist and spun her around. "Go on and scream...no one will hear you anyway," he said referring to the loud music playing downstairs. She raised her hand to slap him again, but he caught it and grimaced, "not again."

"You disgust me."

Toneri smirked, "funny how quickly love turns to hate."

Hinata frowned and tried to pull away from him, but this time he was more serious as he manhandled her. "Help! Hel-!" She was cut off by a hard slap on her left cheek.

"Shut up!" He yelled watching as her tears fell. "You're so annoying! Did you know how hard it was to date you? I hated every minute of it, at least compensate me for my wasted time without complaining Hinata."

"P-please," she sobbed pulling away.

He smiled and once again threw her on the bed, "it's not yet time to be begging Hinata."

If it wasn't for the music then her sobs and cries for help would have been heard. But as it was everyone was busy doing there own thing, caught up in there own lives. Toneri's friends were somewhat aware of what happened, to them Hinata just gave in, no one suspected rape. Though it wasn't as though anyone outside her circle of friends cared, she was simply a rich, stuck up, kill joy who thought she was better than everyone. She deserved what she got...that's what they'd think. No one would believe her if she told them, Toneri was the apple of the public's eye, boys wanted to be him and girls practically threw themselves at him.

She was outnumbered...and alone.

It was much later that night when Hinata managed to pull herself together enough to leave. Toneri had left her sobbing in the aftermath of her stolen innocence. He'd stripped her of her pride, dignity and self worth...leaving her bare to pick up the pieces of her broken reality. She pulled on her torn dress slowly due to her aching body and got her bag. It hurt to walk, but that was the least of her troubles. Her arms and legs were bruised, her lips were cut and painted with dried blood, her hair a complete mess, but she didn't care.

She descended the stairs slowly, only a few persons were conscious down there anyway, the rest who had stayed behind were passed out on the floor. Before she reached the door she saw Toneri talking with his friends in the living room, one of then saw her and tapped his shoulder then pointed at her. The pale man turned around, his light blue eyes clashing with her dull lavender ones. He smirked and she quickly left unable to stand the sight of him.

Once she was outside she got her phone and quickly dialed Neji's number with shaky hands. She didn't stop walking, she just wanted to get away from him. "Hinata, where are you? I've been calling-"

"Can you come and pick me up?" She asked trying to control her voice.

"Are you okay? What happened?"

"Just come and get me...please," she said, her voice cracking.

"Okay are you?" He asked and there was shuffling in the background. She gave him her location and hung up, but she didn't stop walking despite the pain. All that was going through her mind was what Toneri had said and they way he looked at her with pure hate. Even after Neji came and picked her up, she ignored all his questions all the way to the dormitory, she didn't want to talk to anyone.

She sat in the shower for hours just crying and scrubbing herself from head to toe. Hinata hated herself, she hated her tainted skin and everything that came with it. The days that followed she didn't speak to anyone, rumors started spreading that Toneri dumped her at the night of the party. She didn't give it much attention...she didn't want to. Her friends sympathized with her but they couldn't really help since they didn't know. After that she just gave up on a lot of things which brought forward more repercussions.

Hinata no longer wanted to take over her father's company and that created a rift between them. In his eyes she'd disgraced both him and their family and when she started working at the pet shop he was convinced that she wasn't changing her mind. He gave up on her, cut her off and mentally disowned her, Hinata was no longer valuable to him and so Hanabi would take her place. And all through it only a few people stood by her, namely Tenten and Kiba. They were all she needed, all she had...but still no one knew that secretly she was suffering in silence. Having the memory of a part of her being ripped from her grasp and having no one to help. Losing fate in the one she once thought she loved and men overall...it was overbearing.

She would never be the same and no one knew the reason why.

...

There was complete silence after Hinata finished telling her story, no one knew what to say. The sky was dark and the stars were out and although the wind was blowing and the air was fresh Naruto seemed to forget to breath as he processed the information he'd just received. The pale girl shifted uncomfortably beside him, afraid that he'd treat her differently knowing that she was tainted. She had come to the conclusion that maybe she didn't deserve love, at least not Naruto's. He was a wonderful person who deserved better than a tainted girl with a broken spirit.

And that's all she was. Broken.

"Hinata," he said finally making her stiffen. "I-I'm sorry...I didn't know."

She offered him a small smile, "it's okay...no one did."

"Why didn't you report it? That bastard-I knew something was up with him-how could he-?"

Hinata sighed and he stopped, "I didn't want anyone to know...I was afraid, plus I didn't want to have to go through all the procedures and stand in court with him...I just didn't want to see him again. Plus what would my father say?" She shook her head as tears started whelming in her eyes. "I-I wouldn't be able to face him o-or my family...Naruto-kun please d-don't-"

The midnight blue haired girl was cut off by two arms pulling her closer to him. "Shh," he cooed trying to calm her down. It was just like the night of Sasuke's engagement party, only this time he knew the reason for her tears. "I won't..." He sighed trying to finish his sentence, it was hard for him. He wanted to tell the police-to tell Sasuke, but if Hinata didn't want that then what could he do but respect her decision? "I won't tell anyone."

She tilted her head back to look up at him, tears staining her cheek on their way down and although she was a mess, to him she still looked beautiful. "P-promise?"

He stroked her hair and kissed her forehead then nodded, "I promise." She gave him a crooked smile, but her tears didn't stop, she had finally told someone. After years of keeping her emotions bottled up inside she'd finally opened up to someone willing to listen to her. It felt good, refreshing...willingly she had laid herself bare for him to judge. "Hinata."

"Yes?" She asked in between her sobs.

"Stop crying now, I don't like when you cry." The blonde said softly still stroking her hair.

Her body shook as more tears started, albeit those were now tears of joy. "I-I can't."

"Alright fine. I'll let you cry for five more minutes, but not a minute longer."

She smiled and settled into his embrace. "And I-if I don't stop?"

"Then I won't tell you a secret," Naruto said in a childish voice which made her laugh softly.

"Alright fine," Hinata said sitting up and wiping her tears. "I'm done."

"Smile."

She groaned and stared at him, "I-I have no reason to."

The Uzumaki placed a hand over his heart, "here I was thinking I was a good enough reason for you to smile."

She giggled and slapped his arm playfully, secretly grateful that he didn't change at all. "What's the secret?" He folded his arms over his chest and pouted while looking away. "Naruto-kun," she said shaking him, but he simply ignored her. "Naruto-kun, don't ignore me."

"Why shouldn't I?" He asked giving her a side glance.

She frowned, "b-because I can't handle it..."

Naruto blushed and got off the car, "fine I'll tell you." She sat forward and watched as he fidgeted while running a hand through his hair. "But under one condition."

"As usual...what is it?"

"You promise me that you won't waste anymore tears on that disgusting, arrogant, selfish bast-"

Hinata winced, "I promise."

"I mean it Hinata," Naruto said standing in front of her. "He's not worth it."

She nodded, "I promise Naruto-kun." He smiled and so did she, "so are you going to tell me the secret or is there another condition?"

Naruto chuckled and bent his head so he could look down at his shoes. He felt extremely awkward and nervous, he was unsure if it was the right time to tell her, but he needed to get it off his chest. Lifting cerulean blue eyes to meet her lavender ones he held her gaze and leaned in. His heart skipped a beat when she didn't move back or flinch and suddenly he found the confidence he needed to continue.

"Hinata...I love you."
