Fragile Hearts: Thirty-Eight

Hinata stood in the mirror looking over her outfit for the last time. She was dressed in black skinny jeans, a black and white applique halter blouse and matching women's loafers.

Naruto had told her to dress casually, but she had no idea where they were going. She bit her bottom lip and pulled her hair into a high ponytail. The days were getting hotter making her want to get a hair cut, but she'd just have to bare it until the season changed.

Leaving her bedroom she glanced around the kitchen looking to see if there was anything that needed to be attended to. She missed having Neji and Tenten around, Nori would always leave work for her to do. It was never a bore with them around. But they'd left, taking their company and laughter with them, now her house was nothing but a holding area.

Hinata frowned and looked at her handbag on the couch in the living room then glanced at the clock. It was 2:10, he had five more minutes, but just as she was about to sit there was a knock on the door.

Quickly Hinata ran a hand through the end of her ponytail and pulled down her blouse some more even though it was fine. She walked over to the door quickly and tipped on her toes to look through the peephole. Her heart skipped a beat when the first thing she saw was a full head of blonde hair. Involuntarily, a smile grew on her face and she looked away.

"Who is it?" She asked turning back to pick up her handbag.

Naruto chuckled on the other side of the door, amused by her obvious game. Clearing his throat he turned to the door, "your knight in shining armor." And as the words left his mouth, the door swung open.

"You're early," she said.

The blonde shrugged, "what can I say? I couldn't wait to see you."

Hinata blushed crimson and playfully punched him, "stop it."

He chuckled as she closed the door behind her. "Why? I know you like it."

"No," she replied embarrassed, but he merely laughed and placed his arm over her shoulders pulling her closer to his side.

"Ready?"

"For what exactly?" They began walking towards the elevator.

"It's a surprise."

Hinata deadpanned, "then how can I be ready?" Naruto laughed and the elevator doors slid apart, apparently someone was in it already. He only processed who it was when the person said Hinata's name.

"Kiba-kun," the Hyūga smiled. "What are you doing here?"

"I came to see Tamaki," he said stepping out of the lift.

"Oh okay," the pale girl smiled. Naruto left them to talk and stood waiting in the elevator. As soon as they said their goodbyes Hinata joined him. The doors closed and they began going down.

"How are things between you and Tamaki?"

Hinata shrugged, "they're okay I guess. She doesn't hate me anymore."

"I don't understand how anyone could hate you," Naruto responded.

"You'd be surprised," she muttered. The Uzumaki smiled and took her hand just as the elevator doors parted and they began walking. He kept his hold on her hand until they were outside on the curb. "Where's your car?"

"We're not using my car today."

"Okay," she then turned in the direction of the bus stop. "We'll need to hurry before the next bus leaves us," she said looking at the time on her watch. Naruto chuckled softly and placed his hands on her shoulders spinning her around to face him. "Hmm?"

"What if I told you that I was planning for us to ride my motorcycle today?"

"I'd say that you're crazy," she replied staring up at him.

"Well then it's a good thing I'm used to hearing that."

Oh no.

Hinata's lavender orbs stared at his orange and black motorcycle parked neatly by the sidewalk. "You're the oddest creature," she muttered as he left to get the helmet for her.

"But you like that about me," he said placing the helmet on her head.

"Yeah yeah," Naruto smiled at her response.

"Need help?" He asked concerning her mounting the motorcycle.

"No," she responded staring at the contraption. She failed on her first attempt and the one following. Naruto watched silently on the sidelines waiting for her to ask for help.

Once he got tired of waiting he decided to help her. "Alright let me show you a trick."

"I've got it," she said determined.

"I'm sure you do, but this is an easier way," he said standing beside her.

Hinata sighed and turned to face him, "okay, show me."

Naruto's cerulean blue eyes met hers and he proceeded to help her. He went before her and mounted the bike easily. Once it was Hinata's turn he waited until she was vulnerable before picking her up.

"How is this helping Naruto-kun?" She asked suspecting that he planned the whole thing.

"I thought this was the very definition of helping," he said coyly before setting her down.

Hinata rolled her eyes and pulled down the hard plastic front of the helmet. Naruto got on quickly and soon they were moving. The pale girl's arms were wrapped tightly around Naruto's torso which was something the blonde would never get tired of.

"Where are we going?" She yelled as loud as she could over the sound of the wind.

"It's a surprise, I already told you," he smiled cutting into another lane.

"I don't like your surprises," she yelled back.

"Well, you'll love this one." Hinata pulled her lips into a thin line and rested the bottom of the helmet covering her chin against his back. His blonde hair blew wildly in the wind, for her it was her sun. The main source of light in her life, although just like the earth her very existence was beginning to revolve round him.

How she managed to have someone as wonderful as Naruto in her life was still a mystery to her, but she was grateful. She finally had someone she could love unconditionally and this time she wouldn't let him go.

"How soon before we get there?" She asked.

"Hmm, about a few more minutes," he responded going faster. Hinata groaned and tightened her hold around him. "Look," Naruto said catching her attention. Hinata looked to the side and was amazed by the trees that lined the road. Their leaves were a bright yellow and it was simply beautiful.

"Wow," the Hyūga muttered looking at them.

I wonder if Sakura and Sasuke-san have a beautiful view where they are...

It was five days since they left for their honeymoon. She hoped they were having fun, because she was.

"We're here," Naruto said stopping the motorcycle after a few more minutes. Hinata took off the helmet and looked around, unfamiliar with the environment.

"A paintball shooting park?" She asked reading the sign.

Naruto got off the motorcycle and nodded while smiling down at her. "I haven't been here in a while."

He helped Hinata down and took the helmet from her. "I've never done this before."

"Then this should be an easy win for me then," the blonde said taking her hand

Hinata laughed sarcastically, "don't count on it." Naruto paid and they both got dressed in white coveralls and gloves. Hinata giggled as Naruto helped her put on her face mask. "I can do it by myself Naruto-kun...I'm not a baby," she mumbled the last part.

"Hmm if you say so," he responded while putting on his. They got their guns and ammunition and the game began.

"I won't hold back," Naruto said walking away from her.

"I didn't ask you to," Hinata replied smiling. There wasn't anyone else there, when they were entering, everyone else was leaving. The Hyūga shrugged and decided to focus on enjoying herself.

That day would be their day.

...

"Surrender already!"

"Not happening," Hinata whispered hiding behind a car.

It was their last round and they were tied. Whoever was hit first would be the loser and she had no intention of losing. The pale girl peeked over the trunk of the car in order to see her opponent. Naruto was standing out in the open with his gun ready. His white coverall was stained with paint. The colours red, blue and yellow stood out the most on his clothing. She ducked and began shuffling towards the other end of the car. If she could get to attack him quickly then she would win.

"I know you're there Hinata," Naruto said walking towards the car. She winced and bit her bottom lip; towards the middle of the game they both had removed their masks.

Standing she decided to face him, "c-can't you just let me win?"

Naruto shook his head, "no can—" He was cut short by her firing at him. "Hey!"

While he was distracted she made a run for it, her laughter surrounding them both. Naruto smiled slightly and began chasing her, he would end the game once and for all.

Hinata ran in zigzags as fast as her legs could carry her. She didn't want to get hit by Naruto while running so she'd constantly look behind her. Her ponytail swung from side to side freely as she moved about. The day was hot but she didn't mind, she was having fun. But her heart stopped when she felt two arms close around her stomach.

Hinata screamed playfully, thrashing about in Naruto's arms. "Let go Naruto-kun."

"You don't play fair, so why should I?" He asked turning her around on his arms so that she could face him. He'd dropped his gun and was breathing heavily, as was she. Hinata's lavender eyes searched his cerulean blue ones, but she wasn't quite sure just what she was looking for.

She dropped her gun and relaxed which pleased the Uzumaki. "How exactly do you plan to cheat?"

Naruto offered her a crooked smile and pulled her closer, taking a deep breath he shrugged, "I have a few ideas."

Hinata tipped on her toes and wrapped her arms around his waist. "Really?"

"Mhm," he nodded inching closer. Hinata smiled just as their lips met and tightened her hold on him.

She didn't know what a real kiss should feel like. One filled with love and promises. It was gentle and yet passionate at the same time. She could sense the urgency on Naruto's part and so she kissed back as best as she could. He needed to know that she was there and that she was ready to start over.

...with him.

Naruto pulled back and smiled down at her. She had lost count as to how many times he'd smiled at her since the day had started. He really was her ball of sunshine.

"What?" She asked blushing in the aftermath of their kiss. The blonde shook his head and lifted her into his arms quickly. "N-Naruto-kun!" She exclaimed surprised by his actions.

"I win."

Hinata pouted and looked away, "whatever."

Naruto chuckled and spun around with her causing her to hang onto him tightly. "You know you love me." She chuckled lightly before responding.

"You're right. I do love you."
