You were recruited into the Avengers a week and a half after the Battle of New York. There was a small misunderstanding with the local police in Seattle Washington which resulted in you being arrested and detained. After spending the night in a holding cell, you were taken to a drab interrogation room and left there with a bottle of water, a pad of paper and a pen.
For hours you were in that shitty room. You spent a lot of time pacing, plenty of time doodling, and were counting the holes in the ceiling tile when the door finally opened.
"It's about time, I've been sitting here for hours." You said as you dropped your eyes from the ceiling.
The annoyance of having been stuck in this room immediately switched over to wariness as you looked over the two people who walked into the room. One was a brunette woman carrying a tablet with a gun strapped in a holster on her thigh. The other was a tall black man wearing a long black trench coat and an eye patch. Whoever these two people were, you didn't think they were your run of the mill police officers. Considering how the woman was dressed at least, you suspected some form of federal government agency. Maybe they were FBI.
"Hello. We need to have a chat." the man said as he sat across from you and the woman took up position behind him leaning against the wall.
"Who are you?"
"Right now what matters is who you are." he responded.
"I'm nobody," you responded.
"Really now. You're just a nobody. Is that why you were arrested?" He asks you.
Looking away in disgust you muttered, "That was just a misunderstanding."
"You mind controlled an entire store of people before you blew it up." He said shortly.
Insulted you jerked upright, "I didn't blow that store up and I didn't mind control anyone."
He lifted an eyebrow at you and held his hand out to the woman. She stepped forward and placed the tablet in his hand. He tapped something on the screen before he set it on the table and pushed it towards you and hit play.
"So, this isn't you?" He said as you watched the video. He waited while you watched what you already knew had happened.
When it was finished he pulled the tablet away and handed it back to the woman. Then he leveled his gaze on you and waited. You rubbed your hands hard over your face before you said, "Okay, I know how that looks. But I swear I didn't blow that store up. I tried to stop it from happening."
"And the mind control part."
You squirmed uncomfortably in your seat before you said, "It wasn't mind control. I can't do that."
The man sat back and crossed him arms and said, "Then explain what it was because it certainly looked like mind control and the way the witnesses describe things it certainly sounds like mind control."
For a long moment, you stared at him as you thought about the advisability of telling the truth. Eventually, you came to the conclusion that if you didn't you might very well be going to prison.
You sighed, reaching out and picking up the water bottle in front of you to twist the cap off before you set it back down on the table. Then you said, "I can control and manipulate water."
"Excuse me?"
In response, you held your hand out. The water flowed out of the bottle and gathered into a ball above your hand. The man watched intently as you made the water twist and dance in the air before you directed it back into the water bottle.
"Well, that's a pretty neat trick. But that doesn't explain how you mind controlled those people."
"I told you I didn't mind control anyone. I made them move to safety by manipulating the water in their bodies." You ground out.
"Well damn. That's definitely a nifty trick. I've got a proposition for you." The man said.
You leaned forward in your chair, "And what's that?"
