A new day.

A new day for the man known as Yota Yosuke.

The rays of sunlight went through the curtains, entering the simple room that this young man was sleeping in. He was in a deep slumber, as deep as someone who barely had any sleep could be in. The warm sunlight lighted up his face and the room as a whole. And that caused him to groan. It was that time already, by the looks of it. And as such, the young man opened his eyes, and stared at the ceiling for a moment, as he mumbled to himself.

"...I wish I didn't have to go this early, but university is university, after all.."

The man groaned once again, as he pushed himself up, now being sat on the bed instead of laying down. His chin length, usually straight cut, hair was quite the sight to behold. Bed hair was quite something, after all. But that was not a problem at all, for him at least. He could sort it out when he had breakfast. And that's what he was planning to do.

"Let's do it then."

He muttered once again, as he stood up from his bed and took a quick look around. His room was quite normal looking. A simple bed for a single person. Then, a bookshelf right above it where he had placed his favorite books. And then, to the left of his bed where empty space was plenty lay his office desk with a small library shelf attached to it. Nothing special was on that desk, besides a simple computer.

Besides the above, the room had white walls. There was a shelf with a television on top of it, right in front of his bed, something he watched from time to time when he was bored. And to the right of his bed lay his closet where he put all his clothes at. Indeed it was nothing special for a simple room in an apartment that was quite above what an average person could afford to utilize.

All thanks to his hard work, as his parents had turned their back on him, after he became an adult.

Shaking his head to shake away the bitter mood he suddenly found himself into, Yosuke was fully awake now. He walked into his bathroom, which was medium in size. Inside was a shower, along with a medium sized bathtub, as well as the usual area where he'd wash his face, brush his teeth and the like.

After doing exactly that, the young man returned to his room in order to dress up properly for university. He did have a dress code to obey, after all.

And that he did.

A few minutes later, he was dressed in a blue button up shirt with the university emblem on it, as well as black colored pants. Under the blue button up shirt, he wore a simple black t-shirt, just in case he had to take off the university uniform top.

Now that he had fixed himself up, it is now possible to see how he actually looked when he was proper.

Standing at 179 centimeters on the height department, Yota Yusuke was quite tall compared to the average man of this country. As mentioned before, he had light brown hair that reached to his chin, and was basically a straight cut. His eyes are of the Amber color.

Yosuke was seemingly of an average build, but there was more to it. He considered himself quite durable and quite strong, due to working out ever since middle school, as well as being a sports player ever since. As such, while not visible with clothes on, he was quite well built. Looks can be deceiving, no?

And that's that.

The young man moved towards his nightstand, and opened one of his drawers to pull out eye contacts, since he did not like wearing glasses outside his apartment. After applying them on his eyes, he closed the drawer, and proceeded to pick up his university bag. Checking everything in there, he then took it with him to the living room, where he placed it on the armchair close to the door.

The living room was quite simple. A simple black carpet on its floor, and an armchair along with a couch that could fit three people in it. There was also a television placed neatly on one of the stands in front of the couch and to the left of the Armchair. It was neatly placed, and quite tidy as well. Yosuke was pleased with himself, after all, when it came to organizing his apartment.

Turning on the TV, he randomly put on the news channel, where there was random talk about random happenings in the area, regarding celebrities and other mundane events. While listening in, Yosuke worked with the rice cooker, to prepare some rice for himself, and while that was being done, he also started frying some eggs on the frying pan. It was nothing special, and it was just enough for him to hold out until he would return later that day.

And then, his attention turned to the TV as talk about something he found interesting was presented..

There was a gathering of Extra Species and Human officials on television. The news reporter was talking about it, as they were shown to shake hands. Then, the image shifted to a popular idol group that consisted of Extra species girls that seemed to be doing quite well.

"It has been three years since the Cultural Exchange Between Species Bill had been enacted and certainly, our society has changed quite a lot, as many people can see with their own eyes daily. Certainly, it is quite the age that we live in, an age of constant change!"

The female news reporter said, showing a smile on the screen, before she continued to talk.

"The Extra-Species part of the cultural exchange program have been slowly but surely becoming part of human society. They have shown no problems adapting into human society, as the cultural exchange between us humans and them has been going smoothly. Espec- Oh! I was just informed that there will be a message from the Cultural Exchange program! Well then, we'll be back after a short break!"

Then the image on the screen changed to show different images of extra species people, as someone began to talk over it.

"We of the Cultural Exchange Between Species Bill are tasked with finding homes for these girls that wish to learn more about our society, and also show us how their own society functions. There are many of them in need of homes to live in, and many more come in day after day!"

More images of extra species were shown, they seemed to be easygoing and happy. Images of Kobolds, Mermaids, Lamias, Centaurs, Harpies and other species were quite shown on television, until the message continued.

"If you want to make a difference for one of those girls, if you want to have an interesting experience, or if you simply wish to learn more about Extra Species, come by the Cultural Exchange facilities shown below! We would be glad to have you as a Host family for one of those girls, should you go through the process of registration and applying for it! We look forward to seeing you!"

The message ended, as what looked to be a Mermaid in one of the images waved at the camera, with a wide smile, before it went back to the usual news.

Yosuke was watching all that intently, seeming quite interested. Well, of course he was interested. He had applied a week ago to join the Cultural Exchange program, but he had heard nothing about whether he was approved yet or not. It was quite lonely for him, as he lived alone, far from his grandparents and from his parents as well. The former were living in the countryside and could not really come with him in the big city. And as for the latter, he really was not in good terms with them, after they utterly rejected his dream of pursuing a degree in History.

They never really bothered with him, so he was raised by his grandparents, as his own parents were quite absorbed by their own work, having to travel every other day to other places, sometimes even continents away.

As such, he really just considered his Grandparents to be his parent figures instead. It was a lone life, after he moved in Shibuya. Maybe even before that even, as he had to work hard in order to get a scholarship for Tokyo University, in order to study there.

The fact he lived a lonely life was exactly the reason he volunteered to the Exchange program. He did want to learn more about those girls, but the primary reason was that he felt alone. A roommate would not be bad to have in his eyes, so he was actually quite looking forward to entering said program.

But well, no news yet, no need to celebrate or anything.

He shook his head, as he returned to his breakfast that now was laying on the kitchen table, neatly set up in front of him. Uttering "Thank you for the food", he began eating his breakfast. He was quite the fast eater so it did not take long to finish it. After doing so, he put the dishes in the sink for now, as he would wash them when he would be back from University.

So, seeing the time, it was exactly 8 in the morning, and university started at 10 in the morning, so he had exactly 2 hours to get there. It was more than enough. He did wake up quite early, so it really just made sense. So, without wasting time, he picked up his university bag, holding it with his right hand, as he exited the apartment, locking the door after doing so.

It was time to go to university as per usual.

It was now 9:30 in the morning. The sun was ever present, its rays warming up everything they touched. It made sense really since it was June. Summer was here, so the temperatures rising was no surprise at all really. Or so the young man known as Yota Yosuke thought at least.

He had arrived just in time. He met with his only friend in here, before they both entered the class they had to attend for the day.

His friend's name was Hira Shinji. Shinji was a blonde man with spiky short hair. He was of an average build and he was quite shorter than Yosuke. These two were friends ever since early high school, so they knew each other pretty well, or so they both liked to say at least.

Before they had entered the class, Shinji told his friend about how he got a message that morning, where he was told that he was accepted into the Exchange Program, and about how he would soon be an actual Host family, since he also lived alone, so there would be no worries on that front. Of course, Yosuke congratulated him, although he felt it was quite weird he did not receive any message at all in regards to whether he was accepted into the program or not.

Back to the present however, both of them had a class to attend to, so they did just that, without really saying much more on the subject. And they did so, for the three hours it took to go through this class...

It was now 13:00.

It was early noon when Yosuke and Shinji had gotten out of class. Finally done with it all, they both sighed in relief.

"Man, our professor certainly likes to talk much if he can speak for three hours straight without even stopping to drink water..Sheesh, what is he, some superhuman?"

Shinji groaned, as he had a headache from the information overflow they received during this class. Their professor certainly was quite strange in how he operated, but Yosuke really had nothing to complain about, it simply was just that. He was used to it by now. Nothing to write home about.

As such, he simply smiled in amusement.

"I'm sure you'll eventually get used to it, this is our second year in university after all. You gotta work on that, don't you Shinji? Anyway, I should not hold you off for long, you do have to do your papers for the program, no?"

Yosuke said with a hum in his tone, hands in pockets right now as his bag was on his back, like a backpack. He simply wished to go home now, since there was nothing else to really do here.

Shinji stopped groaning, as he looked at his friend. Then realization dawned upon him, as he slapped his forehead, before making a surprised face. Did he actually forget he had to do all that today? That's what Yosuke thought to himself, still smiling in amusement. Shinji really was an airhead sometimes.

"Oh damn, I almost forgot! At least you reminded me as always, Yosuke! Haha! I should get myself in line, otherwise there's no way I'll make it like this! Anyway..I'll be going then. Sorry for not walking you to the station, but I am sure you'll be fine. I'll be seeing ya on Thursday. Have a good day!"

Shinji gave his friend a pat on the shoulder, before he ran off. Fortunately for him, he lived quite close to the University, so he had no reason to take the bus to go home. As such, he usually walked Yosuke to the bus station, before he took off to go back home. Now was a different case however.

"Sheesh, you gotta work on that brain, Shinji.."

Yosuke whispered to himself, before picking up his own pace. He had to go shop for groceries, before going home as the fridge was kinda empty. Fortunately, he still had money with him, thanks to his Grandparents sending him money every two weeks. He was incredibly thankful, although he did not feel well about it either. He wanted to go work for it himself so he would not be a burden. Which, he was working on. Someday perhaps.

Shaking his head however, he reached the bus station, and after 20 minutes of waiting, he got into a Bus. Eventually, after 10 minutes, he reached his destination, and left the bus, exiting right in front of the local grocery store. It was a simple small shop, nothing really special at all...

After a few minutes of shopping, Yosuke walked out with two bags full of groceries. It was not costly and he now had enough food to last the week, maybe more than enough in hindsight.

His home was not far from the Grocery store, so after a 10 minute walk, he eventually got there. But something seemed quite different. Or well, there were some people standing outside.

It was a woman dressed in a black suit, black pantyhose and a typical black skirt over it. She had blonde hair, green eyes and a curvy body. It was quite something, although that was not what drew Yosuke's attention. What drew Yosuke's attention was the person hiding behind that woman. He could see a snake tail, which seemed to be quite long, as that person lacked legs.

As he approached the duo standing outside his apartment building, Yosuke's eyes widened. It was quite the reaction apparently, because the woman dressed in black seemed to have an amused smirk on her features, while the one behind her seemed to hide herself as if she was seeing the end of the world right in front of her eyes.

"You must be Yota Yosuke-san, no?"

The Woman in black broke the silence that was quite stiff for the young man. Her amused smirk seemed to remain in place, as she had an eyebrow raised at the look of absolute confusion on Yosuke's face. He must not know why she was here, which is something she did not fault him about.

Yosuke was too confused to respond verbally, so he simply nodded in confusion. It was a sight to remember really. He had put down his grocery bags, and was pointing at himself in confusion.

"Ah, I see. Well met, Yosuke-san. I am Yukihara Himeko, please call me Himeko. I am with the cultural exchange program and I am what people call a coordinator. I am here to deliver the news regarding your application for joining our program."

The now named Himeko told Yosuke about the reason she was here. Now it all clicked in his head. Himeko looked like a proper government official so it all made sense now. She was here because of his application to join the program. So, in other words, he would now find out about whether he was accepted into it or not. He had a basic idea due to the other person's presence, but he wanted to hear it first before he would believe it.

"Ah, I see. W-Well met, Himeko-san. So it's about that huh? So, what of it? What is the verdict on my application?"

Yosuke asked, ignoring his own stutter. It was obvious he was nervous. Who wouldn't be nervous in a situation like this? It simply made sense. It was something he wanted to be part of, and obviously, he really wanted to be accepted into the program.

"After reviewing your personal record, your background and your family's background, the cultural exchange program has seen nothing that would be an issue for you to become a Host family. As such, Yota Yusuke, you are now officially accepted into the cultural exchange program as a host family."

Himeko announced to him, a simple smile now present on her features. Yosuke simply nodded, dumbfounded, though in reality, he was really happy to have made it. He really had a habit of not exactly showing how he felt on the outside, at least towards people he did not really know.

"I see..Well, I am glad."

He finally spoke up, in a smooth and soft tone, offering a simple smile, before his eyes widened once again in realization. Then, she was here with..

As if noticing his inner realization, the coordinator pulled out a stack of papers and motioned towards the apartment building.

"We'll have to continue this inside. You have to fill in some paper forms to officially become a host family- Oh. How could I forget, silly me! Hahaha, do forgive me!"

She moved out of the way so the other person could be visible. Then an "Eep" could be heard, filled with embarrassment, coming from the other person present. Now that Yosuke had a proper view, his eyes narrowed widely. It was quite the surprised look. As if this was nothing he had seen before, at least in person.

She was beautiful.

The lower body of a snake, light blue in color when it came to her scales. A curvy body along with decently big breasts. And then, as he looked up even more, he could see her face. She had long hair that reached up to her shoulders and it was light blue in color, just like her scales. On both sides of her head, she wore two D shaped hair-clips, something that looked like a trademark for her species.

But what drew him to her the most were her eyes.

They were of the Amber color, slitted snake pupils.

It was quite the sight.

She also had long light blue ears, as every other of her race really, and the fangs were somewhat noticeable too, although she quickly retracted them in embarrassment.

He must have been looking at her as if he had seen quite something if Himeko waved a hand in front of his face to bring him back to reality. Then she let out a fake cough.

"This is Selene, and she's a Lamia. She will be the one you'll be hosting for the coming year. Do get along, okay?"

Himeko introduced the Lamia, as she nodded towards Yosuke, who seemed to be too busy looking at the girl to notice her. He raised his arm, and Himeko was ready to intervene, as if he was going to hit her. But before she could do anything, he simply lowered it in front of the Lamia, and offered it for a handshake.

"Um..Pleased to meet you, Selene. I hope we get along."

He was quite nervous about this, especially after what he just did, but he still tried to make her feel welcomed. And well, the embarrassed and shy Lamia shyly accepted the handshake, although she still was quite guarded, as if she thought she would not fare well here.

Yosuke shook her hand gently, before Himeko asked him to let them into his apartment, and he complied. After unlocking the door, he allowed the ladies to go inside first, before he picked up his mail from outside and followed suit.

The apartment seemed to be big enough for the Lamia to comfortably sit by the coffee table although it was clear that it was barely even feasible for a liminal her size to move around with ease. He put a hand behind his head, rubbing the back of it, as he offered some tea to both the coordinator and the Lamia. As they had sat down by now, he was filling up paper forms, the Lamia was simply fidgeting in her position and the coordinator was providing assistance to Yosuke.

A few minutes later, they were done with the paper forms, but there was still stuff to talk about. Himeko pulled out a little notebook of hers, where she kept some information for newly appointed host families.

COUGH

"Alright, Yosuke. After we got the paperwork over and done with, it is now time to discuss a few other things. More specifically, some important duties and laws in place for the duration of your duty as a host family."

Yosuke put away his pen and neatly set the paper stack in place on the coffee table, before he looked up with a questioning look, although he said nothing and simply nodded. Himeko hummed as he seemed to be listening, and then spoke up again.

"So, the basics. Rule number one. Your Home-stay should never be left alone when outside the residence. You have to be with her all the time, otherwise there will be serious consequences. You also ought to bring your documents with you, should you and your home-stay go out."

She paused for a moment, to see if he had gotten all that so far. Yosuke simply nodded, as he knew that much after studying the law regarding the Home-stay Program. Himeko seemed pleased enough to continue.

"Rule number two, then. You are to adhere to and be wary of the Inter-species Protection Act. What that means is that home-stays are asked to follow the daily routines and the customs of the host family as if they are a normal member of the host family so they can experience the culture and the lifestyle, as long as it does not impede on the home-stay's cultural rituals or habits."

In other words, he was to encourage her to be part of his daily routine, and treat her like a person. This was cultural exchange after all, so it should be like this. Yosuke nodded, and allowed for Himeko to continue.

"Rule number three. There is both Human and Extra-Species immunity. What that means is that Humans and Extra Species are not allowed to intentionally harm each other physically, psychologically, emotionally or financially. Should something like this happen, the consequences will be very severe, to the point of it being treated as a diplomatic issue and it will result to deportation of the home-stay and charges pressed against the host family."

Yosuke nodded, as he seemed to sweat a little. This was getting quite intense and he did not like it. Not like he planned to harm Selene, but it was quite worrying if something happened. He did not wish for tragedy in this household, after all. Sneaking a look towards the Lamia, he found her to be simply watching the coordinator silently, but the moment she saw Yosuke looking back at her, she looked away and rubbed her shoulder, as if she was wary of him. The young man did not say anything, as he turned towards the coordinator.

Himeko then continued.

"And finally, rule number four, for now. Under the Inter-species Protection Act, current inter-species relations are strictly limited to platonic and romantic behaviors. More personal relations such as acts of passion, marriage, and sexual intercourse - are prohibited. Any violation is treated as an diplomatic issue and the resulting punishment will vary based on the gravity of the violation itself, and can include but not limited to: financial fines, community service, revoking home-stay or host family privileges, criminal charges, imprisonment and/or deportation. "

The final rule for now, Himeko cleared her throat and pulled out what looked to be a pocket book, and handed it to Yosuke. It had the title "Inter-species Protection Act" on it, so it most likely contained the laws in greater detail. He put it on the coffee table and nodded. He did find this law quite dumb, because he saw it as something inevitable to happen if two people of different species liked each other eventually, but the law was the law so he could do nothing about it.

Himeko picked up the papers from the table and placed them neatly inside her suitcase. Then, she pulled out her phone and sent a message. A minute later, someone was knocking on the door. Yosuke swiftly opened it, as a man dressed in black walked in, carrying what looked to be luggage. He assumed it was his home-stay's so he told them to place it neatly in the corner for now, as it was something they'd sort out later.

After that was done, he returned to the living room, and stood by the couch, as Himeko seemed to stand up. Someone was done with her job it seemed. Yosuke nodded to himself, as he walked towards Himeko to ask for any phone number to let her know if he needed anything, but she seemed to know this already so she tossed him her card with her number on it.

"I will be your coordinator with the inter-species bill. It really is a pleasure to work with you, Yosuke. I will take my leave now. I hope you two can get along. If you need anything, simply call. I will let my superiors know about the need to relocate, since it seems it is kinda hard for you two to be cramped in this apartment, so I'll let you know if I get a response. With that out of the way, aside from non-scheduled visits, I am scheduled to check on you two twice per week. So, see you in three days!"

Himeko was eager to leave by the looks of it, so after bidding them farewell, she left the apartment, and slammed the door shut behind her. Yosuke sighed to himself. His so called coordinator really seemed to be in a hurry about leaving huh? Well, no worries about that for now.

He cleared his throat and looked towards the Lamia who was watching him warily. He then spoke up again.

"Let's do this right. So uh.. I am Yota Yosuke. I will be your host family for the coming year and if things go well, maybe for more than that. I uh, look forward to living with you!"

He exclaimed, but it was obvious he was kinda awkward. Then again, it made sense, she was someone new. In her eyes however, she saw him as if he was wary of her instead. But Selene still spoke up.

"I-I am Selene, and I-I am a Lamia. Pleased to meet y-you, Yosuke."

She seemed to be shivering, and that was something that concerned him. He had a frown on his face, which was quite intimidating perhaps for someone like her. Perhaps he did not like her, perhaps he wanted her out of here, or so she thought at least, somewhat paranoid. The way he just darted out of the living room was proof enough. She began to sulk, as she was about to start to cry. But then, she felt a warmth on her shoulders. It was woolly. It was a blanket by the looks of it, and the one who did that was..

It was Yosuke. He wore a goofy smile on his face, as he rubbed the back of his neck in nervousness.

"I know you uh guys are cold blooded and I noticed you were shivering so um..here you go. Please, don't hesitate to ask anything of me, Selene. We ought to watch each other's backs no? Anyway, let me show you to your room, and we can get to cooking lunch, I am starving, after all."

He said, his smile maintained, and his friendliness ever present. It was as if he was another person entirely. Selene felt warmth in her chest. So this was how it felt to be treated as a person..It was a simple act of kindness, but for someone like her who thought people would fear her for what she was, a snake, it was an act that brightened her day.

As if her demeanor had changed, she wrapped the tip of her tail around his ankle for a moment. He was surprised, but he did not stop her. He did not know what that meant, but it meant that he was liked. He did not seem to know however and that brought Selene some relief. It was not the time to do anything right now..Or so she thought.

"..Y-Yes, I will be right after you, D-Dear.."

She spoke up, as she unwrapped her tail from him. Yosuke meanwhile was surprised. She called him dear? That was not something you called someone you barely knew. But he chalked it up to cultural difference, it must have been that, right?

Anyway, he motioned for her to follow him, as he began showing her around, while also being careful to not damage any of the furniture and the like. It was a tight space, after all.

But it was fun. And as he was doing all that, he thought to himself..

'This is how my daily life with a Monster Girl begins..'

AN: Hello everyone, Chosen here and I humbly welcome you all to "Daily Life with Monster Girls in Shibuya". This is my first actual Fan-fiction project on this site. I have followed Monmusu ever since it first aired as an anime, and have read countless stories on this site that I quite enjoyed. So, recently, I decided to dive into this myself, for this is a series I absolutely love, and always wanted to write for.

So, this story will follow Yota Yosuke, an OC of mine, and his life in this world where Monster Girls are a reality. I am not quite certain on whether this will end up as a Harem fic, so I will not promise anything on that regard, but the fic itself will also belong in the Romance genre. All I can ask of you is to enjoy reading, and if you have any criticism to make, that would be great. I do aim to improve as a writer, after all.

And that's where I'll leave you guys off. Until next time!
