'This is how my daily life with a monster girl begins.'
That is what Yosuke thought to himself as he had began showing the Lamia around the apartment. It was quite roomy, far more roomy than the average apartment, for he had quite a bit of money to spare, thanks to his grandparents sending him a good amount once every two weeks. It was something he felt bad about, but they had a lot to spare and they insisted to do so, even after he had told them that he did not want to be a burden.
He was pushed out of his thoughts as he felt something tapping him on the shoulder. It was Selene's tail. His eyes widened, as he rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. He did just go off into his own little world while he was showing her around the place.
"Oh, my bad. Was just thinking back on something. Anyway, this is the bathroom, I don't know if it's big enough for you to feel comfortable with, so all I can do is ask you to be a bit patient, until Himeko-san lets us know about whether we can change our place of residence or not."
Yosuke said with a simple smile, hoping Selene would understand that much. And unsurprisingly, she simply nodded her head, as she took a peek inside the bathroom. It was bigger than the average bathroom, with a medium sized bathtub as well as a shower. Satisfied with what she had seen, for the moment at least, the Lamia nodded, and returned to the hallway.
"That is fine, Dear. I am certain miss Himeko will make sure your request goes through."
Selene spoke calmly, in her soft tone, as she nodded at Yosuke. He was actually taken aback for a moment. She really seemed to be at ease, which was quite surprising given how she was like a few minutes ago. He did not know what to make of this. But it certainly was a vast improvement.
Meanwhile the Lamia was feeling quite pleased at the situation at hand. She had heard from a certain friend of hers about how she had found an absolute Darling of a man, and while she herself was quite pessimistic about her current situation a while ago, this all changed when Yosuke seemed to treat her as nothing other than a person and a normal girl. It excited her, knowing that she could act normally instead of acting in fear of being rejected.
It certainly was a feeling she cherished and would remember. She already made plans in her head, as she followed after her Host.
"And here we are."
Yosuke said, as they had now reached two doors, one on the left, one on the right. He turned to face Selene, as he spoke up.
"The door to the left is my room. And the one to the right is your own room. I had it prepared just in case i would be accepted into the exchange program, but since you guys came without letting me know, I have not decorated it at all. It has enough space for you to do what you want however, so you do not have to worry about that."
Saying so, he opened the door to reveal the room. White walls, a simple closet on the right, as well as a bed for two, to give the person who would sleep on it some space. There was also a TV mounted on the wall right in front of the bed. Aside from all that, there was not much else that was noteworthy, besides a desk set next to the closet. All in all, Selene had a lot of space to work with by the looks of it, but it still could be a lot better. Hopefully Himeko would manage to get them a new arrangement.
". . ."
". . ."
There was absolute silence for a moment. Yosuke did not like this. It usually did not mean well when silence ensued after being shown something. It was quite the situation to be in right now. He raised a finger, about to speak up as he had opened his mouth to do so, but he was stopped when the Lamia turned around to face him and then proceeded to give him a hug, pushing him against the wall and wrapping her tail around his legs.
". . .!"
That was very surprising to him. He did not even have the time to react as he was being wrapped in her tail. It dawned upon him that if a liminal wanted him gone, they could just snap him in half if they wanted to and he would not even have the time to react to that. But well, it did not seem like he was in danger, as she was not breaking anything by wrapping around him, even though it was a very tight embrace.
"Selene?"
He finally broke the silence, as he spoke up. His amber eyes looked down to see how she looked. And as he did so, he noticed a beautiful smile on her face, as her eyes were closed. Someone enjoyed being clingy by the looks of it. He was about to say more but was stopped as she suddenly spoke up.
"It's nothing, Dear. I am just very thankful that you even had a room prepared for me in advance. I simply did not expect anyone to actually go to such lengths to accommodate people they barely knew about, especially people like what I am.. I do know how Lamias are viewed, after all."
Selene spoke, her hold slightly tightening, as she seemed to be in a good mood. Her smile remained, as she opened her eyes and looked up, into his own. Amber met Amber.
"Well, I cannot say I speak for others, but you do not have to worry about anything in here. A person is a person, regardless of their species. That's how it should be, no? But should anything happen when I am present, I will simply not let it go unpunished. So, don't worry, Selene."
Yosuke said softly, as he pulled out his arm from her hold, to simply give her a head pat. A simple gesture, but it meant a lot to someone like Selene. She seemed to have noticed their close proximity, as her cheeks flushed red, so she simply unwrapped him, having her own thoughts on the matter. She let go of him after unwrapping and then turned her back on him.
"I-I see. I..I am happy you see things that way, Dear. I'll be in my room, I need some time to tidy up my stuff. You can go ahead and make dinner, I will let you know if I need anything!"
Selene looked at him one last time, before she was given her luggage. Then, she slithered inside her room and closed the door. Meanwhile Yosuke collapsed against the wall, letting out a sigh of relief.
"I am not good when it comes to situations like this, but I certainly hope she feels more at ease now."
He whispered to himself, as he shook his head and stood up from the floor. Dusting himself, he walked into the kitchen once again. He actually did not have time to tidy up his groceries, so now that his roommate was working on tidying up her room, he would have enough time to do so, and then start cooking dinner.
And as such, he began pulling out the groceries he bought, setting them neatly on the kitchen counter. He had quite a few of them to work with, but it seemed like he would have to make another trip to the grocery store after all. He was not living alone anymore, and on such short notice too. He only hoped his budget would be enough to manage to handle this situation. Or well, he could ask Himeko about whether he was eligible to have his expenses covered by the Interspecies Exchange Bill.
All in all, it certainly seemed like life would finally be interesting for Yosuke. Or so he thought, as he finally got to work, to put the ingredients away, except the ones he needed at the moment. After doing so, he would get cookin'.
An hour or so later, dinner was over and done with. Yosuke had made some nice Onigiri as well as quite a bit of Unagi. It certainly left behind quite the nice smell, which lingered inside the Yota household. Yosuke seemed to be quite satisfied too. Little did he know, the smell alone would be reason enough for his new roommate to simply slam her room's door open and quickly make her way towards the kitchen.
Of course, suffice it to say, Yosuke was quite surprised to see her come into the kitchen so fast. Then again, it most likely meant that she was hungry and that the food's smell alone was intriguing to her. Perhaps she'd enjoy the food. And his thoughts were confirmed, as he turned to look at the Lamia.
There was a flush on her features, quite clearly feeling somewhat embarrassed by herself, since she practically rushed to the kitchen table, but it quickly faded. She instead seemed to be licking her lips, as some drool fell on the kitchen table. It was an amusing but also cute sight to behold, and Yosuke certainly made sure to appreciate it. He coughed into his hand, to get her attention, as he revealed his pleased smile.
"Well, look who's here. I see someone's quite hungry right now! Well, please be patient for like, two more minutes, so I can finish putting everything on the table, okay Selene?"
Yosuke asked, as he turned his back on her, to finish putting everything on its respective plate. He hummed while doing so, until he felt someone over his shoulder. Slightly turning his head to check, he saw Selene's face watching over him, and it was too close for comfort too. Their noses almost brushed against each other. But he did not say anything, instead trying to force his blush down but failing to do so.
"Those look so tasty, Dear! You're actually a natural at cooking, so that means I don't have to worry about food! I am very pleased to see that is the case."
She practically cheered, as she went back to the table. She sat her human body on one of the chairs, or well, tried to do so at least, as well as she could.
'Note to self: I should buy her a proper seat so she won't have problems with sitting at tables.'
Yosuke thought to himself, as he carried the last few plates on the table. There was a salad, some boiled eggs, Onigiri and finally, the Unagi. Finally, everything was ready to be consumed. By now, it was basically late in the evening, so some nice food sounded nice, accompanied by eventually resting for the night.
"Itadakimasu!"
Both of them declared, as Yosuke handed Selene her chopsticks. The moment he did so however, she immediately began eating both Onigiri and Unagi, as if there was no tomorrow. Someone was very very hungry. In fact, after noticing how she was acting, the Lamia stopped, showing an extremely red face due to the embarrassment of being seen like this, but Yosuke simply smiled in amusement, nodding once before returning to wolfing down his own food.
For the first time, he felt happy with his situation at home, in a while. It had been a long time since the last time he felt happy or well, not bored, when he was at home and doing something other than working on achieving his dream. It really was something he appreciated.
The same could be said for the one sitting across him. Selene was happy to be enjoying such a nice meal. Her Dear was quite the cook by the looks of it. Her mom was right in saying that she would have a good time while being out there in the Exchange Program. It hadn't even been a day and she already was enjoying herself. And she was also enjoying a certain someone's company too. Such kindness was not something she expected. It felt as if she were a princ-
"..Selene, you there? Damn, and here I thought I was a daydreamer! Hahahaha!"
Yosuke poked her cheek to bring her out of her trance, which seemed to work, as she looked up to him. On his finger was some left over rice, which seemed to be from her cheek. He of course nommed it, which made her blush in return. He did not seem to notice however.
"Y-Yeah, Dear?"
Selene spoke up, looking into his eyes as she did so. She was curious about what he wanted to say. She could not believe she was lost in her thoughts so badly. She was actually surprised..
"I wanted to say, I can show you around Shibuya a bit tomorrow if you wouldn't mind. It might be fun and you will certainly see a lot of new things too. What do you say?"
Yosuke suggested, and waited for a response.
Selene's eyes widened in surprise. Was he asking her out on a date to see the city? It really sounded exciting. So excited she almost got lost into her daydream. All of those possibilities she could come up with, from the more simple ones to the most bizarre ones. She briefly thought of the possibility of holding hands. Then she thought about sharing a nice ice cream together. Then the thought of perhaps receiving a kiss. It was quite something to think about. And due to her nature as a Lamia, it simply was quite exciting and somewhat normal for her to think so.
"U-Um..Yes! Yes I would love to, dear! It's a date then! Now if you excuse me, I'll have to go prepare for the night! So, good night!"
The Lamia exclaimed, as she seemed to be in a hurry. She gave him her thanks for the food, and the began slithering into her own room. Closing the door behind her, an excited sound could be heard from that direction. But Yosuke opted to ignore it, dismissing it as not important. It most likely was not important, right?
Either way, as they both had finished eating, he slowly worked on cleaning up what he could, and put the rest of the plates into the dish washer. It certainly saved him a lot of time. While waiting for it to be done, he simply thought about today. It certainly started like a normal day, only to simply become something he did not really expect. And that was exciting. Perhaps that's what he was missing out in life.
Meanwhile in her room, Selene was tidying up her clothes in her closet. She was humming to a simple tune while doing so. She seemed to be in a good mood. Why wouldn't she be? She found someone who viewed her as a normal girl, and that excited her. It was something she really appreciated. And she had already realized that seeing something like that made her really like her Host, even if she did not know much about it. He seemed to be a lovely person who most of the time hid how he really felt around others he did not trust.
But did that mean she was trusted? If she saw him like that, Selene was certain that were the case. And that made her quite happy. Trust was very important, after all. Now all she wanted was to make him hers, and that was something she'd chase after soon enough. After all, he was her host, and she liked him. A Lamia was nothing if not tenacious when it came to pursuing what she wished for. And Selene certainly was a Lamia.
And so,while changing into her pink night gown, Selene was considering the ways she could go about what she wished for..
It was almost midnight by the time Yosuke was done with the house chores he had neglected to handle earlier in the day, due to the sudden arrival of his Lamia guest. Reflecting on this day's events as he got inside his room, he certainly could say that his new life as a host was starting out quite well.
"..Sheesh, I should get some rest. Got a day off university tomorrow and I did promise to take her out in Shibuya so she can see the sights."
He whispered to himself, as he was now laying in bed, with a simple black t-shirt on as well as gray shorts. It was his casual sleepwear.
Staring at the ceiling, he smiled to himself, as he closed his eyes and let sleep take him. A much needed rest, for the day that would come tomorrow would be quite eventful for sure. But he did not cover himself with a blanket or anything, so why when in his final moments of awareness did he feel something wrap around him, and cover him up, as sleep finally took him?
Who knows? Certainly, the coming morning will be full of surprises...
AN: I had this written already, so I decided to post it. So this is day one over and done with, huh?
I did not address this in the first chapter, but the update schedule regarding this fic is not set in stone. One thing I can say for sure however is that I will try to consistently pump out at least one chapter per two weeks. Obviously, there might be more than one per two weeks, so stay tuned!
Many thanks to people who took the time to read this, I do appreciate it. I will also respond to the review I received, below.
54godamora: Thank you for taking the time to review! As for what you mentioned, I cannot reveal much, but those matters will certainly be touched upon in later chapters!
