It had been a day since the little outing between Selene and Yosuke. Suffice it to say, a lot seemed to have changed since that day. It was now Wednesday, tomorrow would be Thursday and Yosuke would have to deal with University once again. As such, he'd have to leave his homestay at home, since he doubted she would be welcomed in his university. And it would be best for her to not have anything to do with idiotic behaviors.
Come to think of it, he also thought about his friend, Shinji. He did say he had applied to be a homestay himself and he was also accepted, so naturally, Yosuke would find out about his situation tomorrow. Back to the present however, he was returning home after an hour of being by himself, for a reason only he himself knew. With him, Yosuke carried a simple paper bag. He clearly had bought something.
And when he unlocked the door to go back in, after he took a step, he was tackled by his homestay, barely saving the paper bag from being crashed, as he tossed it away. Someone was very clingy ever since the day before. He even woke up on the couch with the Lamia holding unto him, which was quite comfortable but it also was embarrassing. Did his action against those thugs make such a difference? He did not know the answer to that nor did he complain. But it was surprising that things had turned out this way now.
"H-Hey Selene, would you mind letting go? I'm happy to see you after an hour of being apart, but uh, I have something here for you."
"I missed you so much Dear, it felt as if it was a centur-"
". . ."
"...!"
Selene let go of him the moment she heard he had something for her. She was dressed in her casual purple t-shirt and her black short skirt. Yosuke raised an eyebrow, at the sudden change of demeanor. She seemed to have her eyes wide in surprise and the feeling of anticipation was also quite obviously present. It was as if her expectant stare alone was piercing through him.
So, he picked up the paper bag from the floor and proceeded to take out a neat brown box. He motioned for the Lamia to come after him and after leading her to the kitchen table, he proceeded to unbox the thing. By the looks of it, it was a smartphone. Yosuke revealed it to his homestay and then proceeded to hand it to her. Selene was quite taken aback, as she eyed the smartphone. Then she took it with gratitude and blushed.
"This is for you. It came to my attention that you lack a smartphone. And since I wont be home for half the day tomorrow I thought it would be best for you to have one, in case you need something and vice versa. Think of it as a gift, ehe.."
He rubbed the back of his head, as he watched Selene put the phone on the table and then approach him. What she did next was so surprising that shivers were sent up his spine.
It was a smooch.
A smooch on his cheek.
Selene had given him a kiss on the cheek.
Yosuke watched her, wide eyed, having expected to be grappled into a hug instead but this was way above his expectations. He really did not know what to say. He simply stood there, surprised, as Selene watched him with a giggle. Sometimes, his reactions were just priceless. Then she spoke up.
"Consider this as thanks for the gift, Dear!"
She said in a more flirty tone, as she picked up the phone. Yosuke did not touch the spot she had kissed his cheek on, instead leaving it be. It was quite something. Instead, he regained his composure, and coughed into his hand to get her attention, which worked quite fast. Naturally, there was curiosity in Selene's eyes, as she watched him expectantly. She indeed was curious about what he mentioned earlier. He did say he would not be around for half the day. Yosuke had forgotten to let her know about his status.
"So, you see..I am a university student at Tokyo University, so I naturally have to go there at least twice per week. As such, tomorrow will be the second time I will be going for this week. And since I wont be here, I want you to be at peace knowing you have a way to communicate with me if you need something. Just remember, no sneaking out, okay?"
Yosuke said with a slight smile. He was being nice about it instead of acting as if he was ordering her. It was a request more than anything else. Selene was her own person after all, so he would feel bad if he was acting as if she were his worker or slave. It would not be proper from him. Either way, it seemed to have worked, since she gave him a thumbs up and proceeded to slither into the living room. The Host simply stood there, satisfied that it went well, before he followed after the Lamia.
"So, Dear...What do you study in university?"
Selene asked as they were both sat on the couch now. Indeed, she was curious about what Yosuke was studying in university. Selene herself was curious about the world, its story and the people too. She was educated enough as well, so it only made sense for her to be curious about her host's education.
Yosuke was surprised she was actually interested, but he did not show it. Instead, he maintained his gentle smile, as she picked up his Sengoku Period history book from the coffee table, as it was left there from yesterday. He then neatly opened the book to its first page, where it wrote that it was borrowed from Tokyo University. Perhaps that was enough as Selene's eyes had a spark in them. But he still spoke up.
"I am a student, working for a Historian degree in university. I always wanted to do this ever since I were a kid, despite the reception I received in regards to my dream."
Yosuke said with a slight sigh at the end. He did not want to remember the disapproval he faced from his parents. Only his grandparents were supportive when it came to his dream. He must have been thinking for a few minutes if Selene's tail was already around him without him noticing. Having snapped out of it, he could see the Lamia's face almost touching his own, their noses and lips inches apart.
"I don't think you should care much about those who disapprove, whoever they might be. Just follow your own dream, Dear. I will support you as much as I can, all the way, until we are no longer together here..Which I hope won't be the case, ahahaha.."
Selene rested her head on his shoulder, embracing him. Yosuke of course was both embarrassed and grateful about his homestay's support. It felt nice to have someone who was not of his own blood provide support to him. It really felt amazing. And it even was the girl he..
He quickly snapped out of it. He could not be thinking like that. Today was too close too. He did not want to cause trouble nor did he want to get arrested and Selene deported. Then it hit him. They would one day not be together. Well, of course it was the case. She would be here for a year, unless all went well and she was allowed to stay longer. As such, he vowed to himself that he'd make sure to have the Interspecies Exchange program accept his request when the time would come.
For now however, he simply enjoyed the embrace, as his homestay was also pressed up against him. It was an enjoyable sensation, to the point Yosuke Jr was responding somewhat but he kept himself back. He could not do things like that.
"I don't know what to say, Selene. I am very grateful of your support and I'll try to live up to it. The same goes to you by the way. I am with you all the way. So if you need anything, be sure to let me know. I'll do my best to assist you and support you for as long as it takes."
With that being said, the duo let each other go after a few more minutes of cuddling, specifically, tight cuddling due to Selene tightening her hold over Yosuke due to his words. Of course, Yosuke was used to this by now. But it did not mean she could not break him in half whenever she wanted or by accident. Even so, he kept such thoughts at the back of his head. It would not be proper of him.
"Alright, Dear. I will be going to bed now..See you in the morning, I do want to see you off.."
The Lamia slithered to her room, as Yosuke stayed in the living room for half an hour longer, looking through his study materials one last time. After he was done, he went to bed as well. It would be a long day tomorrow.
When morning came, Yosuke found himself waking up to his alarm clock quite fast. Turning the alarm off, the young man quickly got off his bed. Picking up and now wearing his blue button up shirt along with his black colored pants, he was prepared in record time. He really took it fast today. Well, he did not want to waste time, as he wanted to be there in time, and also be back home in time as well. He did not like leaving Selene by herself, after all.
After leaving his room, he saw that Selene's door was still shut, so he instead chose to go brush his teeth. Entering the bathroom after knocking just in case and receiving no response, he then began brushing his teeth. It did not take long for him to do so, and after he was finished, Yosuke prepared the bath just in case Selene felt like taking one later while he was away from home.
He had made sure to give her his contact info and also showed her how to use the smartphone although she already seemed to be aware of most functions.
By leaving the bathroom, he then swiftly moved into the living room and from there, he entered the kitchen. Humming to himself, he opened the fridge and picked up some nice eggs he'd fry on the pan as well as a few pieces of bacon. It was a simple breakfast, but it should be more than enough. He was somewhat in a hurry to make sure that he'd get to class as early as possible.
And as he thought of Selene, she immediately seemed to have appeared, slithering into the kitchen as she was drawn by the smell of breakfast. She seemed to be wearing her pink night gown, and as always, it was a beautiful sight to behold. He did try to not stare for too long unless he wanted to deal with her teasing again.
"Good morning, Dear!"
"Morning Selene. I'll have breakfast served in a bit. After we're done eating though, I'll be going."
Yosuke responded to her good morning in kind, and then added the fact that he'd be gone after breakfast was finished for both of them. Selene seemed to take it quite well, but in reality, while she hid it, she did not wish to separate from him. But if that's how things were supposed to be, then she could not do much else. Plus, she did not want to disappoint him, so she also had to accept his request of not sneaking outside alone, without him.
"Oh uh, Selene. It's been three days since you arrived here, so uh, I think Himeko-san will make an appearance in the afternoon. If I am still not here, please tell her to call me and make sure to have her feel welcomed while she waits for me."
Yosuke finished with the eggs and had already put em in their plates, along with some nice bacon. It was a simple breakfast, as mentioned before, but it was good enough for today. He promised to himself that he'd do something better tommorow, given he would not have to deal with university.
"Oh. I see, Dear, I'll make sure to do as you said! Now then, let's eat! Your cooking is the best after all!"
The Lamia once again proved to be excited over his cooking, even if it was nothing special at all, at least in his opinion. Yosume smiled to himself as he joined her in eating up. It was only natural he'd do that much, given he needed energy for today...
Breakfast went by smoothly. Yosuke had eaten his share and the same went for Selene herself. She seemed to be quite satisfied with the food, so she stood up or well, got off her seat for now. Yosuke was now placing the dishes in the dishwasher, as he had no time to wash them by himself right now. And after doing so, he picked up his university bag, putting it over his shoulder as he looked at his homestay.
"Alright, Selene, I'll be going now! Take care and if you need anything, make sure to call me! I'll see you in the afternoon."
He gave his homestay a simple hug, which she returned tenfold, before he waved and then walked out of the house, closing the door behind him. Checking his watch, he saw that he had quite a bit of time until classes began. Even so, he still went with his own fast pace, as he reached the bus station. Standing there, he waited until the bus arrived and then he took it, going to university that way, as usual...
Today was quite warm, as always. The sun was ever present, along with a few clouds, although nothing that indicated a change in the weather was present. Overall, it was the average warm day in Tokyo, Japan. Yosuke had gotten used to that by now. The heat was annoying to deal with, but it was manageable for now. He thanked the kami he did not have to deal with anything worse at the moment.
Currently, Yosuke was walking towards his class, after entering the building. He was about to go in, until he felt a hand on his shoulder. Turning to see who it was, he was met with his friend Shinji who seemed to be in a great mood at the moment. Someone was quite happy by the looks of it, which was something he approved of. He did like to see his only friend in here happy.
"Yo Yosuke, how have ya been? Bro, you won't believe it, I am staying with a raptor harpy!"
Shinji was so enthusiastic about telling his friend that he jumped right into what he wanted to talk about. He had his arm over Yosuke's shoulder, as he had a toothy grin present on his features. Yosuke returned a smile although it was more simple in nature.
"Oh, congratulations Shinji! Looks like you got someone to keep you in check now eh?"
Yosuke said in amusement, while his blockhead of a friend seemed to groan for a moment, before he regained his grin, Then he began telling Yosuke about how his homestay looked, how he already liked her even if she was playing around with him a bit too much and he also told him about how he wanted to find a better place to live in so she could fly around freely without having to fear flying into some power line or anything of the sort.
Yosuke let out a hum in understanding. He did wish for a bigger place of residence so Selene could enjoy more space to do stuff in, since their apartment was kinda barely enough for her to do anything really. He was brought out of his little world as he felt a poke on his cheek, Shinji watching him with an expectant look.
"So? Did you get in the program yourself?"
He asked eagerly. Yosuke nodded swiftly, as he got a fond smile on his face once again. He looked very happy, and his friend Shinji was very pleased to see that. His friend was not very open with others and it had taken a long time to have him open up and speak of his troubles. And lately, he was mostly passive in how he acted, until today that is. While it was not so different than before, Shinji could spot signs of happiness in him. It was quite something, and he grew curious..
"Yeah I got into the program, I am hosting a Lamia right now. She's very nice to have around, and I am very glad I applied for this program."
"Hoh? You sound as if you're very fond of her. Did you do somethin' to her? The law doesn't allow us to do anything of that nature, not like I'd snitch on you but do be careful, Yosuke!"
"As if! If anything, you should be the one that ought to be careful! Your airhead nature is quite a problem and I can only imagine how many misunderstandings you have created already!"
". . ."
". . ."
Both of them stared at each other for a moment, silently.
Then they burst out laughing. It had been a while since something like this had happened. And it certainly was pleasing. Yosuke was having fun talking to his friend about that stuff and it seemed like the feeling was mutual. He did not care about the weird stares they were getting but Shinji also did not. Of course people would not be overly fond of the idea of hosting a liminal, but that would not stop them from enjoying one's company.
RING RING RING
"Ah crap, it's time to go. Ya ready, Yosuke?"
Shinji opened the classroom door as he saw his friend give a nod, before he walked inside. Yosuke did the same, and the duo went to sit at their usual spot, at the back of the class. Soon enough, their professor came in, as he gave the duo a pointed look most likely due to their talk in the hallway, but even so, the lessons began and ended normally..
After classes had concluded, Yosuke and Shinji left the University building. It was now early afternoon, and as expected, they had spent a lot of time going from class to class. It was something they had grown used to however, so there was no problem for them at all. They were barely even tired, due to how many times they had to go through stuff like this.
"Alright, I'll have to leave ya here, Bro. I have to get back as soon as possible, since Sherry is quite the active one. Who knows what she might be doing or might have done..I'll see ya on Monday and don' be a stranger!"
"See ya, Shinji! Take care and say hello to her from me!"
Yosuke bid his friend goodbye, as he walked to the bus station. Once he was there, he checked his phone only to see no messages whatsoever. By the looks of it, Selene had no need for him at the moment which was somewhat saddening even if it was quite normal. It also seemed that his coordinator was not visiting just yet. So, as he had a bit more time, once he got on the bus, he decided to stop at the grocery store once again, so he could buy some ingredients for more food. He did see that most of what he had at home was eaten by now, after all.
And as such, once he finished with the grocery store, he started walking towards his home. But eventually, he stopped himself, as he heard the sound of wheels behind him, along with a "Please watch out!", but it was too late, as something hit him from behind, sending him on the pavement with someone on top of his back. At least that person was not hurt.
As he came back to his senses, he opened his eyes as he looked up and saw a wheelchair, along with a girl sitting on it. She had light green hair with a barrette on her head, fair skin, green eyes and she wore a light blue dress by the looks of it. She looked pretty cute, he could not lie to himself about that. The moment he was noticed, the girl started apologizing quite formally.
"I apologize to you for knocking you down like that. My wheelchair lost control and I..I thought I was a goner.."
The person in question sighed, as she expected to be met with quite the harsh choice of words. Instead, Yosuke stood up and dusted his shoulders, as he began gathering his stuff. He did not seem to be too hurt, if anything he seemed to be alright.
"Oh don't worry about it, I have certainly been through worse, even kicked by a horse once, hahaha..Anyway, I would never dream of getting mad over something like this when it was simply just a lady getting into an accident, so don't worry miss..?"
He acted quite gently, even called her a lady. That seemed to brighten her gaze, as she offered a beautiful smile. Instantly, Yosuke was reminded of Selene's smile, but this person's smile was just as cute. It was something he could not resist, and as such, he returned a smile of his own as the girl spoke up rather fast.
"Oh! I am Thalia, I neglected to introduce myself so I hope you will forgive me, mister..?"
"Oh, it's Yosuke, haha..Don't worry about it, Thalia-san. It was just a little accident, nobody was hurt, so we're good. Were you heading somewhere?"
"Ah yes, yes I was, Yosuke-sama..I was umm..I was heading to the square a few minutes from here, but I lost my escort so..This happened. If it is no trouble, would you mind helping me get there? I cannot exactly control my wheelchair well like this.."
Thalia had an apologetic look in her face, as she felt bad about dragging him into this, but she could not help but feel he was someone reliable. She rarely saw such noble people in person, so it was certainly an experience to remember.
"Oh? That is not far at all, so I do not mind. Come, let's go."
Moving behind the wheelchair, he began pushing it, as the two made small talk. He held his groceries with one hand while with the other he continued to push the wheelchair. It did not seem to be a problem, as they eventually reached said square. Yosuke could see a man dressed in a black suit wait up ahead, the moment the duo was spotted.
"Ah, it seems that this is my ride then..Thank you so much, Yosuke-sama..I will not forget your kindness.. I hope we see each other again and I bid you a good day!"
Thalia said, as she raised an arm to wave at him, while Yosuke did the same. Seeing the time, he made his way back home rather quickly, until eventually he reached his apartment and used his keys to unlock the door. The moment he did so, he spotted his homestay neatly sitting on the couch, wearing reading glasses and currently reading his book on Ancient Greece.
Closing the door behind him, he spoke up.
"Im home, Selene! I see you're having fun reading that! I did not take you for a person who really enjoyed history..But that's good to see!"
"O-Oh!? Oh, it's you Dear! Welcome back! I missed you so much! How was your day?"
She blushed at the fact that he seemed to like how she looked while she was being a reader. Using her tail, she set the glasses and the book on the coffee table and then made space for Yosuke to take a seat next to her. She raised an eyebrow as she spotted a smell on him she did not know about but she quickly discarded it. Must have been a classmate..
"Oh it was nothing special, just the usual class in an university as big as Tokyo University. It was certainly interesting, we were going through what you were reading just now..."
And so a talk between the duo had began about how Yosuke had spent his time in class. The Lamia seemed to be quite interested in learning more so she payed a lot of attention. She was even told that Yosuke's friend had sent his regards, which made her happy. Her Dear had a friend to trust in, so she was happy about that.
Meanwhile Yosuke learned about how Selene had spent her day sitting around and feasting on the last few snacks they had. It seemed like he had made the right call in buying more groceries by the looks of it. She also had put the clothes out in the sun to dry, after Yosuke had done laundry so that was something good to hear as well.
All in all, it seemed like both had a fairly normal day.
But would it keep being normal? Who knows really?
RING RING RING
The doorbell could be heard ringing. Yosuke stood up and asked who it was. He immediately heard Himeko's voice. And he proceeded to open the door, not knowing that his life would change even more that day...
AN: A little cliffhanger of sorts! Hello to you all! I hope you had a good weekend. In today's Everyday Life with Monster girls in Shibuya, we see Yosuke go to class and learn about how his friend Shinji had been doing. Before that however, he also got Selene a little gift and received something in return. Something for sure has changed now! And last but not least, his little meeting with someone just before he got home. Oh well, he has to deal with Himeko now!
Responses to reviews below:
54Godamora: Very glad to hear that it was fun to read! Yosuke isnt a rough person nor really one that desires violence, so for him, as a certain Assassin in the Fate/ franchise often says, No Second Strike is needed!
Thank you all for reading and until next time!
