Four long years

...

Chapter 5

.

"I'm right here, Christian" he heard a familiar voice say from behind him.

As those words reached his ears, Christian froze at his spot for a few moments, his heart pounding wildly against his chest, terrified to turn around.

He recognized her voice, but he hadn't seen her in four long years... was she still the same person?

Was she still HIS 'princess'? He didn't know what to expect...

"Christian?" he heard Ana whisper, making his heart jump up from joy and excitement.

And that's when Detective Matteo walked away, leaving the two of them in the living room of this strange house.

As his eyes fluttered shut, he uttered, his voice trembling." Princess?"

"Yes, it's me"

It was then, when he turned around slowly, and when their eyes met, blue meeting gray, Christian felt all the emotions from the past 4 years coursing through his whole being.

The hope that he had, when he was still searching for her.

And also, the pain, devastation, and gut-wrenching feeling that he had felt, when he saw her 'dead body' in the morgue...

All the sleepless nights, tossing and turning in their bed. And when he slept for two or three hours a night, waking up in his own tears and sweat.

The longing, wanting and needing his Ana... for four long years.

It all became too much for his heart to take, when she took a step towards him, and closed the small gap." I... Christian, can you just hold me, please?" he heard Ana utter, while tears pooled in her big, beautiful eyes, dangerously about to spill, her beautiful face, so different and yet the same to him.

Christian shook his head in response, his eyes welling up with tears. " W- where were you?" he was able to say, and then swallowed the huge lump that had formed in his throat." I've sear- searched everywhere... I have... I've moved heaven and earth, trying to find you... I thought you were dead, Ana..."

"I had to leave... to protect you and little Aurora"

"I thought you were dead..." Christian repeated, while giving her such a heart-wrenching, devastating look." I held a f- funeral for you"

"I had no choice." Ana said softly, her heart contracting inside her chest, and then she carefully brought her hand up to touch the man she loved with ALL her heart, mind and body.

The second her fingers collided with his face, Christian felt as if the rest of the world evaporated into nothingness...

The moment she touched him, his eyes fluttered shut, and in the next moment, he opened them and pulled Ana in a tight embrace.

'Four fucking years' were the words that swirled around in his head, while holding his wife oh so tightly, vowing to himself to never ever let her go again.

"I'm never letting you go again, princess" she heard him say, her heart melting into a puddle." I'd fight anyone and everyone, but I will NEVER let you go again"

After a little while, Ana pulled back from their embrace.

Christian smiled happily, tears rolling down his cheeks, and then pulled her to him again.

"I have to explain, Christian" he heard her say, her voice muffled cause her face was on his chest." Why I had to leave you ...and Aurora"

"Christian?" she said, but he didn't want to let her go yet.

"I've missed you so much, princess" he uttered, and held her tightly, while inhaling her addictive scent." Don't leave me again"

Ana sobbed, and said." I've missed you too"

In response, he reluctantly let her go, afraid someone will snatch her up from him again.

And when she looked at him, Christian gave her a loving look, his eyes boring into hers, making her knees turn into jelly.

Just like before... it's like Ana never left, their connection and love still strong and robust.

"Christian"

It was then, when he cupped her face gently, and then crashed his lips onto hers.

OH my Godddd...

This kiss, this connection... this was everything he had dreamed of, and longed for more than four long, agonizing years...

Every single night, she was 'present' in their bedroom, his heart and mind needing her so much that he could 'feel' her lying besides him... his body aching, because he craved Ana so much...

And now here she is, kissing him back.

Her pink lips on his, made his heart burst open from happiness, the feeling so, FUCKING GOOD.

At one point, she grabbed his shirt and pulled him even closer... if that was humanly possible.

She sighed into his mouth, and when their tongues dueled, Ana felt as if the two of them were inside a bubble, the world around them gone...

.

Meanwhile at Christian's home, Aurora was in her bedroom, grabbing her sketch book and comfortably plopping down on the floor.

At the moment she was concentrating on her drawing, her tongue sticking out.

Christian's daughter will turn eight in a few months. She loved drawing a lot; it was her favorite thing in the world besides her 'Nijntje'.

Nijntje was her favorite toy, a cuddly bunny that she brought with her, everywhere she went, one that she had since she was just a baby.

(Ana had bought it for her daughter, during her trip in Holland.)

The walls of Aurora's bedroom was evidence that she enjoyed drawing a lot...

Since she was four, Christian noticed her interest in sketching, and bought a frame for every decent drawing Aurora had made over the years.

And it was no one else's idea but Luke's, to decorate Christian's and Aurora's bedrooms with the little girl's art.

As Aurora made the drawing, the corners of her lips went up to form a smile.

Suddenly, she had an idea.

She got up, walked out her bedroom, and went straight to her father's study. A week ago, Aurora had seen how her father shoved something in the drawer, thinking that she hadn't seen him doing it.

However, she did.

As she opened the study, she smiled widely and then took the shiny necklace that he had hidden in there.

'This belonged to my momma" she whispered, and held it close to her chest for a few moments.

With a wide smile on her face, Aurora went back to her bedroom, planning on surprising her father with a drawing of her mom, wearing this special necklace.

She knew that her dad still missed her mother who was in heaven, so Aurora was convinced he was going to be happy with her new drawing.

Little did she know, right now, her father and mother have been reunited, after four long years apart.

After being ripped away from each other by someone named Elena Lincoln, the devil in disguise, the woman responsible for Ana having to leave her beautiful, little family, four years ago...

~ Approximately two hours later ~

.

Gail was setting up the dining table, cause it was almost time for lunch.

Routinely, she set the table for four, believing that Christian would walk through the door anytime now.

While washing her hands though, Gail began to sob softly, the pain she was feeling right now too overwhelming, her mind plagued by only worst case scenarios.

'What if Christian doesn't come back? What if something tragically happened to him and he doesn't come home? What will happen to little Aurora? She has already lost a mother... she CANNOT lose her father too!'

"Gail?!" she suddenly heard Ethan say, taking her out of her grim thoughts." You in here?"

"Yes, I am..." she replied, her voice shaky, while frantically wiping away her tears.

She barely had her emotions under control, when Ethan, Jose and Luke walked through the door.

"Got any news?" Gail asked, and waited patiently, looking with hopeful eyes at the three men.

Jose nodded at her, grabbed three bottles of water from the fridge, and handed them over to Ethan and Luke.

"Well?" Gail asked, her eyes fixed on Jose." Tell me"

After they had taken a seat, and finished the water, Jose cleared his throat." I know a guy who knows a very prominent judge."

"And?" Gail asked impatiently.

"Well, this judge right? Right now he is handling a high profile case, revolving around the CEO of a notorious pharmaceutical company.

"Wait, what?" Gail questioned, not understanding how this has anything to do with Christian being missing.

"Gail, listen please... let him explain" Luke whispered, his voice a pitch lower than usual, his hand trembling when he grabbed a pack of cigarettes from his pocket.

"Luke Sawyer!" Gail scolded, and softly smacked him on his upper arm." We DON'T smoke in this house!"

In response, Ethan and Jose laughed at Luke being called out by Gail.

"Gail, please... one cigarette." Luke pleaded." I need it."

Gail rolled her eyes at him, and then focused on what Jose was about to explain." Please continue, Jose."

"Well, like I said, this judge, let's call him Mr. O" Jose said, and swallowed hard. He looked very nervous." Mr. O is handling this high profile case, in which this company is being accused of a very monstrous crime, right?"

"Uhuh" Gail replied, and nodded.

"Do you know who used to work for this pharmaceutical company?"

Gail was on the edge of her seat, her heart pounding inside her chest, while gripping Ethan's hand tightly." I don't know"

Jose's eyes fluttered shut, opened them and let out a deep breath." Ana"

As that name reached her ears, Gail shook her head, confused. "What? Who? Anastasia? My Ana... Christian's deceased wife? Aurora's mom?"

The three men nodded in response." Yes, that one." they all said in unison.

Gail then got up, and paced the dining room." What does it all even mean?!"

"My friend who knows Mr. O, thinks that it has to do with Ana's murder, four years ago..." Jose told her.

At this very moment, Gail felt so nauseous, and that's why she took a seat, trying to calm herself down.

"You need water, Gail?" Luke asked, and raced to the fridge to grab a bottle for her.

After she had taken a few swigs from it, she felt a little better.

And then, tears pooled in her eyes." Do you know that this is the first time, after four years that we've said that aloud?" Gail whispered." That Ana was murdered..."

Ethan nodded, and swallowed the huge lump in his throat." Cause Christian never wanted to talk about it" he simply said.

In response, she grabbed Ethan's hand for comfort.

After a few moments, Gail sighed deeply and looked at Jose. But uhmm... do you think there's a connection between this high profile case, and Christian being missing?" she questioned.

Jose nodded at that." We do"

"How do you know that?" she asked, her voice low.

In response, Jose grabbed a thumb drive from his pocket and said. "I have a 'friend' who sent me footage of Christian being attacked by some people last night..."

As those words reached her ears, the hairs on the back of Gail's neck instantly stood up.

If only the three men and Gail knew who was eavesdropping right now...

It was Aurora.
