Edward's POV
"We have to leave Forks."
As the words left my mouth I could see my daughter's face drop. Forks was the only home she had ever known. Everything she had discovered and explored was here. Not to mention it was home to Jacob and Charlie. Leaving Forks wouldn't be easy for us either. It was a town full of memories both good and bad. I would always feel a special connection to its small school and luscious forests because it gave me my family.
A flurry of thoughts rushed into Renesmee's mind and I tried to capture each one so I could give her answers.
Where will we go?
What about Jacob and grandpa Charlie?
I won't have any friends.
Will you have to go to school with me?
I slowly walked over to Renesmee's bed taking in her thoughts. "Renesmee It's going to be okay I promise." I tried to make my voice as soothing and convincing as possible. The last thing I wanted to see was my daughter upset.
In truth, I had no idea how things would play out when we moved. Some towns were more welcoming to our large and unusual family than others. All we could do was search for someplace quiet and peaceful without other vampires around. Somewhere we would be comfortable spending the next decade of our forever.
"Dad, you can't promise things like that. You don't know what's going to happen when we move." Her voice trembled, she was fighting back tears. "I won't be able to hang out with uncle Jake or grandpa Charlie anymore."
"They can still visit" Bella reminds her gently from across the room.
"It isn't the same mom." Renesmee fell back onto her pillows and groaned loudly. "I don't want to go to high school with you guys either. That will literally be a nightmare."
A nightmare? Were we really that embarrassing as parents? "It won't be that bad. I promise we'll be cool and try not to embarrass you."
Bella tried to lighten the mood, "I'll even make your dad promise he won't take the same classes as you."
I frowned because that was exactly my plan. I wasn't about to let my daughter be subjected to unwanted advances from gross hormonal teenage boys. I wanted to be able to watch over her and protect her. She was part of my everything and I would do anything to ensure her safety.
"Well, maybe I'll be in one or two of your classes."
Bella shot me a sharp look. Her beautiful eyes looked into mine and she opted to reply to me with her thoughts. Edward, that isn't helping. I know you want to protect her but she also needs her space.
My daughter groaned again beside me. "See mom, he is going to embarrass me. I won't even be able to make any friends because he's going to scare everyone off."
I'm slightly hurt by her comment, but try not to show it. I would never intentionally keep my daughter from having normal human experiences. I would always warn her that her status as a half-human half-vampire could complicate things, but I would never try to interrupt her from having friends. "That isn't true honey. I'll always support you having friends and I won't get in the way. The only reason I want to have classes with you is so I can protect you."
"Have you told grandpa Charlie and uncle Jake yet?"
Bella is first to respond, "No sweetheart but we will soon. We're still trying to decide where we are going. That's what your dad was doing last night with grandpa Carlisle."
I nodded, "We were checking out other potential areas, making sure they were safe."
The room went silent as Renesmee absorbed all the information. She let out a sigh and murmured quietly, "I think I'm ready to go to bed."
Bella crossed the room to Renesmee, "Alright sweetheart, we'll let you sleep." She leaned down and kissed the top of her head. I let her leave the room before I too leaned over to kiss our daughter's forehead goodnight. As I was about to pull away Renesmee reached her hand up and placed it on my cheek.
I love you, dad. Can we finish talking tomorrow?
"I love you too and of course."
I get up and leave her room, closing the door softly behind me. I listened for my wife and heard a soft humming coming from our bedroom. I followed the noise and discovered her sifting through clothes in our closet.
"Late night cleaning?"
Her humming comes to a stop as she replies, "No, I was searching for the skimpiest piece of lingerie I own." As she turned to face me, my wife bit her lip enticingly.
I closed the distance between us and wrapped my arms around her beautiful body. Her golden eyes looked up into mine and I couldn't help but feel full of lust and adoration. I brought her lips to mine and eagerly kissed her. I could never get enough of kissing her.
Bella leaned back ever so slightly so she could whisper next to my ear, "Why don't we go ruin those new sheets I just put on the bed?" She tugged on my hand as she led me towards the big fluffy bed.
"Have I ever told you how much I love you?"
My love laughed blissfully as she pulled me down on top of her. "Only two hundred times a day."
In between our kisses I mumbled against her lips, "Well two hundred isn't enough."
"We've got lots of time to say it more."
"We definitely do." I smiled down at my wife as we let ourselves fall into our own little world of happiness. Our bodies intertwined and everything else seemed to melt away.
It was around 3 AM when we finally finished. As we laid there in bliss I decided to ask Bella a question I had been thinking about recently. "Do you ever miss sleeping?"
"Yeah, I guess, why?" Bella continued tracing circles around my chest. It was something that she often did while we were laying in bed talking the nights away, or after sex.
I shrugged, "I was thinking about how Renesmee sleeps and I was just wondering if you miss things like that from your human life."
"I guess I miss dreaming. Although, I don't miss the nightmares." She shuddered at the thought. We both knew she was all too familiar with nightmares. "Do you miss sleeping?"
I paused for a moment trying to remember what sleeping was like. It had been so many years that I had slightly forgotten what it felt like to sleep. I could remember dreams from my human years, but overall sleeping was a bit blurry. I shook my head, "No I don't think so." I lifted my hand to caress her cheek, "After all, if I slept I wouldn't get all of this time with you."
A soft smile formed on her lips. "I'll take all the time with you that I can get."
"It's a good thing we have forever then." Knowing I had forever to shower the love of my life in kisses and affection was the best feeling in the universe.
My wife hummed in agreement. Our conversation lulled and silence overcame the room.
Bella laid back flat on the bed, playing with the silk sheets between her fingers. Her eyes danced across the ceiling, taking in every single detail. It was unusual for her to be quiet like that.
I let the silence linger for a few minutes before I spoke up. "Is something on your mind, love?" I lifted my hand and stroked her arm soothingly.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before beginning. "I think it's finally starting to hit me that I have to leave Charlie." We're both silent for a moment. The crickets chirped loudly outside creating a symphony with the bellowing frogs and hooting owls. Her eyes fluttered back open and she turned her face to look at me. "What if we move to Canada as Carlisle suggested?"
"We can always find time to visit him." I would miss Charlie too. He was such an important figure in Bella and Renesmee's lives and even though he wasn't always the biggest fan of mine, I knew he cared about me as well.
"I know we can, but it'll be hard on him. Renesmee means so much to him and I'm sure he's going to be scared."
I sometimes found it sad that Charlie had been brought into the chaotic lives of a family of vampires. "It'll work out, love. We'll find a way to see Charlie I promise."
Bella groaned, "Jake. He's going to take it hard too." She mumbled, "Might not talk to me for a few days after we drop the news."
"He can visit just like Charlie." As the years passed, Jacob and I had gotten on better terms. We weren't best friends by any means, but we could now have friendly conversations.
"Renesmee will miss her hunting buddy." Renesmee and Jacob tended to go hunting together. She claimed she had better focus when Jake was around. I figured she just felt awkward hunting with us and opted for her uncle.
"Maybe you should ask Renesmee to go hunting with you later today. I'm going with Alice, Rose, and Esme to do some shopping so you guys can have some more time to talk."
I nodded, "Yeah I will, talking isn't a bad idea." I didn't want to keep harping on the move, but I wanted to make sure she felt as comfortable as possible with all of the changes. I decided to pivot the conversation back to a lighter tone. "What are you lovely ladies going shopping for? I know you adore shopping."
Bella snorted, "I was practically blackmailed into going by Alice. It definitely still isn't my cup of tea, but she insists that I need to go."
I raised my eyebrow, "Does that mean dress shopping is on the agenda?" Even after her transformation, Bella still didn't care much for dresses. At some point, she had ripped every single dress she owned.
"I think so. Alice keeps insisting that I always need to have a nice dress on hand just in case." That definitely sounded like Alice. "I think she wants to do some surprise shopping for Renesmee too." That also definitely sounded like Alice. She loved surprises and shopping for her niece.
A lustful thought crossed my mind and I curled my lips into a smirk. "It would be a shame if that new dress was accidentally ripped off of you the second you get back."
Bella playfully rolled her eyes and punched my side, "I think Alice would kill me if I did that."
"Well then maybe we should go back to taking advantage of this time without our clothes on." I winked at my wife, trying to be seductive.
Without another word, we were kissing and falling right back into our little world of bliss.
