Authors note: This will be my third Fairy Tail one shot. So far I have dealt with just Natsu and Happy, so, this time I think I will deal with Natsu and Lisanna. Considering I have been dealing with that early period of time I am doing it there. Natsu and Lisanna shippers this will be for you, Natsu and Lucy shippers your time will come. This would be set during that time Natsu and Lisanna are raising Happy after he hatched.
Fairy Tail: Raising Happy
Lisanna let out a yawn and stretched her tiny arms over her head. Smacking her lips some she looks over spotting a rather cute and snoring Natsu. There was something to be said about waking up in their makeshift home as a makeshift family. Happy, whom they believed to be a dragon but now was identified as a flying cat was brought up by the two of them.
"Natsu, oh Natsu," she reached over giving him a little push but he only wound up on his back with a snot bubble pushing out, gross.
Sighing she goes to get up as she walks out greeted by the morning light. Honestly there was something so...rewarding about these types of mornings. Her smile was never gone when she was awake, she kept it because she knew when it came to their trio, Happy usually was happy around fish and Natsu was happy when he was doing Guild work.
"Lisanna what are you doing?" She turns around spotting Happy who has just woken up. Happy is rubbing at his eyes and he is flying a bit.
"Good morning Happy," she greets pleasantly, "oh and I am just greeting the morning. It is so beautiful this time of day. Is Natsu still asleep?"
"Aye, his snoring woke me up," Happy says. The two of them laugh a little and quiet as Natsu starts to stir.
"Natsu is quite cute when he is so focused on whatever it is he is dreaming. Anyway how about you and I go and get something to eat?" Lisanna smooths her dress as she sets out.
She and Happy make their way to the fishing spot and she settles down with her legs over the edge. Happy is next to her as he grips at the pole with his two blue paws.
"Normally I leave the fishing to Natsu, but, today I want him to sleep in. I know how hard he works at the guild." Lisanna looks out at the clear blue water before them.
"Aye," Happy comments. "Natsu does tend to work hard...though...it often leaves him too drained to do anything else."
"Aye, oh, sorry...almost sounded like you for a second. Tell me something Happy...does Natsu ever talk about me?" Lisanna watches her blue friend or rather child, if they were playing house, but he doesn't seem to hear her as he is humming.
Honestly it is fine if he doesn't answer. They are still young but someday she would rather enjoy the thought that she was in Natsu's thoughts. It was often clear to most of those in Fairy Tail that there was something there. Her sister though often told her that Natsu would make a horrible husband cause he would sleep all day and just spend most of the time apart from that out on Guild Quests and that would leave her home alone, no doubt raising their many kids.
Lisanna blushes at the mere thought of her raising a family with Natsu. Truth is while she did do a few things on the board now and then...being a mother to Natsu's children gave her cheeks a warmth that spread down to her toes.
"Are you coming down with a cold Lisanna?" Lisanna realizes she is caught so she attempts to look away.
"It is is just warm is all. Any bites yet?" Lisanna checks her own pole but so far no fish have taken a bite. Odd, normally they were so active when she saw Natsu fish.
"Nope, but, then again maybe the fish are still sleeping." Lisanna figured, maybe, but honestly while fish wasn't her most favorite meal...there was something about the way that Natsu cooked them up, or rather heated them up with his fire that made it all the more edible.
"Well maybe we can wait for them to bite and if they don't we can always move to another spot." Lisanna could be stubborn when she wanted and right now seemed like the best time to...until her patience waned then another spot it was.
Natsu would eventually wake up but as his young eyes set in on his surrounding he notices something off. "Hey...where did everyone go?" Natsu rose up in alarm as he attempted to calm his beating heart.
This wasn't good...oh no, he would never hear the end of it from Mirajane if he lost her. Mirajane already disapproved of him...wait...they weren't actually a couple, so, why was he worried about what she thought of him?
"Think Natsu...uh...where did they say they were going?" Natsu thinks on it a bit and places a hand along Igneel's scarf.
Walking out he takes a sniff of the air before he gets her scent. Igneel had taught him how to use the scent of another person to find them and right now Lisanna's was coming in clear and focused.
There was something about her scent though that always brought a smile to his face. "I don't like her, I mean I do...but not like that. I mean sure I enjoy hanging out with her, watching her fall to sleep...ugh...why am I even thinking such things anyway?"
Natsu was on his own but even hearing his voice aloud made him question his friendship with Lisanna. They were just friends...right? It was too soon to even consider dating or even raising a family...augh...if this kept up he would be going down a path that would certainly get him picked on in Fairy Tail.
Romance wasn't very common in the guild, in fact, very few of them had much interaction outside of the guild itself. Gray didn't even show any interest in anyone and Elfman was sort of quiet and often looking after one of his animals.
Natsu began walking and placed his hands behind his head as he tried to think more on just what sort of feelings he had for Lisanna.
Happy was growing hungry and he and Lisanna eventually gave up on the fishing spot and opted for a better one. Sitting down he kicked his legs about as they didn't really dangle over the edge.
"I'm so hungry," he told Lisanna, "why are the fish sleeping in?" It really did hurt when he didn't eat fish...like...he wouldn't die...but he was starving so early in the morning.
"Patience Happy...they will nibble before you know it. Oh, I think I got one." Lisanna had a focused face and Happy perked up.
"Quick...pull it in!Ooh I hope it is a big one!" Happy was eager for a meal and he hopped up forgetting his own line for now.
"Ugh...it really is putting up a fight here. Help me Happy!" Happy hurried over as he stood behind her and began to pull.
"Aye, oh, it sure is putting up a fight for sure. I wish Natsu were here to help-." Happy however felt someone behind him and he looked back and spotted his friend.
"I'm here Happy...all together now," Happy smiled and did his part. Perhaps he wasn't doing as much as the other two but he was still growing up. Maybe when he was bigger he could contribute more, maybe, honestly when it came to fishing he didn't mind if the others put in the leg work. It didn't constitute that he was lazy...he was Happy.
"Natsu! Ok, everyone...pull!" Lisanna's voice encouraged them all. Happy gave it his best and soon enough they caught a rather big fish. Wow...it was so big it likely would have squished them if they were even under it.
"Oh wow...so...yummy!" Happy rushed to it but he felt Lisanna hold him back. He didn't realize that of course till he saw that the fish was still where it landed. "Hey...how come I'm not moving-?"
"Silly Happy, first Natsu has to fix the fish for us before we can eat it. Isn't that right husband?" Happy caught on.
"Aye, and since I am your son I can't eat something that big...I'd get a tummy ache." Happy cheered seeing how red Natsu got.
"Ah c'mon Lisanna...not this again!" Lisanna though clearly was not changing her mind forcing Natsu to give in.
"Husband, think of our baby boy, he can't eat that all on his own. It needs to be properly dealt with and in smaller proportions to suit his growing size. Please be a dear, won't you?"
Happy hid his laughter as he tried his best to give the biggest eyes he could. It was nice playing this but he couldn't help feeling like some part of Natsu like it. They could be in love, heh, but he might keep that to himself...least for now.
"Fine, darling, wife...I'll get it set up in no time." Natsu went to town on the fish not only cooking it up but properly cleaning it out. Happy was all happy for this.
The day carried on as it usually did and Natsu and Lisanna were sitting around the fire and what remained of the fish. Lisanna sat a little bit from Natsu and he was no doubt debating eating the fire.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you...I mean...you wouldn't want to get a tummy ache now would you?" Lisanna could see Natsu looking away but almost caught a glint of mischief as if he planned to do it regardless.
"I wasn't planning on doing that, sheesh, also supposing I did...who is to say I would do it while you were awake?"
Lisanna hmphed some and folded her arms. She did her best to copy a look Mirajane did with her whens he planned to go out. "Natsu...don't you dare, the fire has to die out on its own or we'll freeze to death."
"Fine..." They sat there for a bit and once the fire went out they retired to the makeshift home. Lisanna found herself looking up at the ceiling made of branches and such and she found it hard to get to sleep.
"Natsu...do you not like me?" Lisanna peers at him. She can read his deliberating her question and she sighs. "It is fine if you don't..."
"I-I wouldn't say I don't like you, I do, just..." Lisanna figures there is no point in continuing this.
"Natsu, it is fine, really, it is getting late and you probably will be taking on a quest tomorrow so, thanks for today." Lisanna turns on her side though it takes a bit for sleep to even come to her.
Natsu waited till he was certain Lisanna had fallen asleep before he crawled over to where she lay. He wrapped his arms around her and tried his best to keep her warm. When morning came he was the first to get up and he wound up cooking what was left of their fish for breakfast.
"Morning, ooh, fish!" Happy naturally was the first out as he took to his portion. Natsu waited for Lisanna and she eventually did come out to eat. They ate in silence and when it was time to head back he took a step back allowing Happy to fly ahead of them.
"Lisanna, about last night..." Natsu ventured but Lisanna just kept walking, in fact she was walking faster then him. Great, what did he do now? Or rather what should he do now?
Natsu caught up with her...even though his short legs had trouble and as he reached forth his fingers brushed along hers. He heard her caught breath and struggling to get a hold of himself he links his fingers with hers.
"Natsu?" She chances a look at him and he looks back at her. The two of them hold that gaze for a bit before looking ahead.
"I know it may not seem like it now, but, someday...I'd really like to see us together...so forgive me if I am...not appreciating you the way you should be. You mean a lot to me Lisanna...so...even if I am distant or hard to read...there is no part of my life that will ever be full without you in it..."
Lisanna squeezes on his hand and they say no more on it. Natsu looks ahead feeling he might not be the best husband now...but...maybe someday he would do justice to their trio. Only time would tell.
THE END
Authors note: This again is just a one shot but if anyone wishes for more Lisanna and Natsu fanfics or even something in fuller scale be sure to let me know. I'm again just testing the waters with one shots but not inclined to expanding on ideas, just, not on any existing fanfics. It would have to be something worthwhile a project for me to take on I have yet to type out. Also this is about as intimate in this fanfic as I can go with their age range.
