It… has been almost a month since I updated last? I last updated on February 19, 2022 and I am starting to write this chapter at 10:53 PM on March 13, 2022. I'll try to have it uploaded by the end of the 14th or 15th. I apologize for the hiatus. Life hit me like a truck to be honest and I went through this phase of questioning a ton of stuff. Reality, concepts of time, all that fantastic jazz. I've also been preoccupied with life, family, friends, schooling. Anyways, enough about me. I thank you all for your support to those who commented up to this point and I do value every one of them. I will try to keep everyone's advice in mind and improve my writing. As always, my guys, gals, and non-binary pals, I don't own the Owl House. The company that will own everything if you give it 50 years, Disney, does. Now let's see how terrible it'll be jumping into it after this long of a hiatus.

Chapter Six

Eda dropped Willow off at her house and Luz concentrated on reading the owner's manual. When they pulled up to Eda's place, Eda commented, "You know that you don't need to read that thing all the way through, right?"

Luz looked up with a look of determination and focus, "I can't miss a thing. If I mess up, I will have failed everything I came here for."

Eda raised her brow as they got out of the car, "To observe and blend in?"

Luz nodded, "Alice is counting on me. I need to prove myself worthy as an angel. Besides, I'm starting to make friends. I want to fit in with them."

They climbed the steps and Eda pulled out her key, "Sure kid, let's just get in there and get that thing set up."

The two got into the apartment and Luz said with a sigh of triumph, "Done! I read the manual."

Eda chuckled, "You are the only person I've ever known to have read one of those things."

Luz asked, "So how do I set this thing up?"

Eda guided Luz through the steps of setting it up and Eda gulped after it was completely turned on and the home screen was displayed with the default background. Eda cleared her throat and said calmly, "I need you to go to the other room and wait until I call for you. There's one more thing that has to be done."

Luz asked, curious, "What's that?"

Eda turned to Luz and made eye contact, dramatically saying, "Activation. Now go, it's for your own safety."

Luz gulped and backed off into the other room, listening at the door. At first, everything seemed calm and normal. The sounds of what was going on was muffled, but Luz started to hear frustrated shouts of annoyance, rage, and grief. After about a half hour of listening to these noises, Luz heard Eda call out, "Hey kid! It's done. It's finally done."

Luz slowly stepped in and saw that Eda was sweating, holding the phone out. Luz asked, "What… what happened?"

Eda shook her head, "You don't want to know. It's a human aspect of life I pray that you will never have to go through."

For the rest of the afternoon, Eda helped Luz to personalize her phone and get a couple of apps on it. Luz downloaded a bible app and started going through it before deleting it and asking, "Is… is this what the humans think is the bible?"

Eda nodded, sighing, "I'm afraid so."

Luz shuddered, "It's not… terrible I guess. Just so very misunderstood."

Eda shrugged, "Humanity will be led wherever humanity will be led."

Luz scrolled around and was messing with her phone before asking, "What is this 'Facebook?'"

Eda's face darkened, "Beware of social media Luz. Tread lightly or you will be crushed beyond recovery. This is the human way."

After just a little while more, Luz got tired and decided to turn in for the night.

Luz dreamed of the people she had met, again. This time, however, she felt as if a dark shadow was trying to creep in and take over. Luz woke with a start to the early alarm and brushed the feeling off, contributing it to anxiety and nervousness. She quickly got ready and Eda, who was waiting in the kitchen, drinking coffee, called out, "I made some eggs. Grab some before you go."

Luz quickly ate some eggs and bounded out the door, deciding to walk to school today. After several minutes she finally made it to the entrance and stopped in her tracks. In front of the school entrance Amity was cornering a kid and had him grabbed by the collar. Luz didn't know why, but she felt her heart sink. Luz rushed past the two, Amity looking back to see Luz before dropping the kid. The kid ran off and Amity clenched her fist before releasing it, heading off to her first class.

During lunch Gus, Willow, and Luz were chatting and Luz exchanged her new phone number with the two. In the middle of their conversation, Luz looked over to Amity's table and saw her staring at the table, a saddened look on her face. Luz would've gone over to ask what was wrong, but Luz was still thinking about the kid from this morning that Amity had cornered. Luz then felt a chill spread from inside her chest as she looked around, trying to find whatever caused it. Luz asked, "Did you guys feel that?"

Gus stopped talking and Willow asked, "What?"

Luz recounted, "It felt cold and kind of off."

Gus shrugged, "Beats me."

Luz blanked out for the rest of the day, going through mechanical motions. Her mind was focused on the sensation she felt in her chest during lunch. When she got home she explained it to Eda, who replied, "Well, angels have a built-on warning system, so there could be impending doom. That or you could be forgetting something. Cold sensations also work that way for angels. Or someone could've touched you. Or you just got cold chills. Either way, you have to be careful kid. Keep your eyes open."

This chapter is rushed, and it goes all over the place. It sucks as well, I know. I just need to get back in the groove. Maybe one day I'll do a rewrite and it'll turn out better. Thank you all for your patience and remember to leave any kind of comments you want down below, positive or negative. I will take it all under advisement. I know when I started writing I said that I'd try to have this finished and uploaded buy the end of the 15th and it is now the 16th, but it's done. I'll try to make the next chapter better.
