Owen Granger looked critically over the sleeping agent. His sleeping agent. She was breathing easier this evening, he noticed. No nightmares. That had to be a first. Her face looked slightly flushed, but he'd heard that she'd had quite a difficult day between Physical Therapy and sheer frustration at her situation. Owen was impressed that she hadn't manage to harm anyone yet. Good thing he never took that bet with Henrietta.

It was a bit early for her to be asleep though that was obviously to be expected while she was healing and the aforementioned earlier activities. She'd obviously timed it so that she'd be awake for that partner of hers was due to arrive. She was aware how much Deeks worried. It concerned Owen how much the man wasn't talking about things that were bothering him. That was extremely unusual and definitely caused alarm bells to ring but thankfully Sam had appeared to get through to him. Somewhat.

Kensi sighed softly and tried to turn onto her side. Of course, only half of her body fully cooperated. The weaker side stiffened up when she slept or rested, he noticed. He stiffened, not relaxing until she settled again; her breathing soft and even. Good, he wouldn't know how to sooth her if she had become any more distressed. A bedside manner Owen Granger definitely did not have.

It was really disconcerting seeing Kensi Blye so helpless. It simply did not compute. What was also disconcerting was that he was disconcerted by this whole situation, if that made any sense at all? Owen Granger didn't do all this worrying about co-workers. Well, he didn't use to. The past couple of years had changed that. This team had changed that. Drastically. It was strange how people did that to you. He wasn't sure if he liked it.

Scanning an experienced eye over her chart, he nodded to himself. She was progressing nicely. Quickly, even which was unusual in these types of cases. The strangeness of it was even noted in her chart. Owen snorted; he'd come to expect strange from these people of his. Maybe he should have told the doctors and nurses that...

He frowned again as he noticed that she'd managed to tuck an arm under her. Her left one to be exact, which was already weak. Sleeping on it was not going to do her or those poor nurses any favours.

Lightly stepping around the bed, Owen reached across and, only with a slight hesitation, grabbed her hand and held his breath. No reaction from her except a soft mutter. Good. A swift tug and her arm was outstretched across the bed and no longer under her. He looked at her approvingly, there'd be no new aches and pains when she woke up. Kensi had enough of them as it was.

Owen stood and silence and just watched her. There was the faint noise of bustling nurses and the murmuring of other patients and visitors in the halls. There was something serene about this room. Maybe because hope hadn't quite left it yet.

Owen snorted scathingly at himself, wasn't that just poetic? He'd probably give everyone a heart attack if he admitted to it.

He'd definitely been here too long but he still lingered. Owen was shocked to discover that he didn't want to leave, Kensi would be alone if he did that. No one would be looking out for her.

He was being stupid. This was a renowned hospital with amazing staff. His agent would be just fine in the minimal time between him leaving and Deeks arriving. Hell, she'd probably be sleeping most if not all of that time. He should definitely go. There was always work to be done and Henrietta to annoy. Owen sighed. But she wasn't just an agent, was she. No, she was family. Basically, a kid. His kid. Just like the rest of her rag-tag team. They needed looking after and sometimes - dare he even think it - a bit of coddling, only a bit mind. It was just that she needed a bit more care at the minute. She was so vulnerable.

That meant he was allowed to hover. When no one else was there to see it, obviously.

His ears perked up at the detection of a new noise outside. It was getting louder. Ah, it was Deeks. Owen swiftly checked his watch and frowned. What on earth had he been doing to lose track of time like that? He tapped the face of his watch in irritation.

Swiftly exiting the room, he managed to duck into an alcove just as Deeks approached the door. The Detective frowned briefly as he took note of the open door (Owen nodded his unseen approval, the man hadn't let his guard slip at any point) but edged in when he noticed his partner was asleep. Not for long, if the noises Granger heard from her were any ting to go by.

"Hey, Kensalina," Deeks greeted softly.

She must be awake then. Granger almost couldn't contain the snort at the nickname. Had he mentioned how ridiculous these two were.

"Mbf-vning," was Kensi's garbled answer as she stretched and regained full consciousness.

"Sleep well?"

"Yes, actually."

She sounded surprised. Owen didn't know if he should be pleased or not. He edged closer to the door almost unconsciously, wanting to see how she was doing. You could tell far more about someone's mental state when they were awake. She'd be distracted and talking to Deeks anyway and he always took the chair by the window so shed be looking away and Deeks would be engrossed in her. He could risk a quick glance.

No, he couldn't. Stupid window. Kensi's eyes had widened and he swiftly removed himself, hopefully before she recognised what just happened.

Owen shrank back into the shadows, making sure he stayed fully out of sight

"What's up?" Deeks asked, looking concerned as Kensi frowned at the door.

"Nothing," she replied in a thoughtful tone.

"You sure? You looked confused there? Are you in pain? Need a nurse?"

Kensi brushed him off with a wave of her hand and a frustrated noise.

"I'm fine. I thought I saw Granger..."

Dammit, he was getting worse at this.

Deeks look at the door and shook his head.

"He wasn't there when I came in. Must have dreamt it."

"Uh uh," she replied disbelieving, giving the door a doubtful look before turning back to Deeks. "Must have."

Owen watched them embrace each other and Deeks try to mollycoddle Kensi before he nodded in satisfaction and took his leave.

She was going to be okay.
