Douglas poked Donald with his pencil as they sat together on their bed, doing their homework. "Hey, Donnie... If ye had ten cookies and ah asked fer five, how many would ye have left?"
The older twin thought for a second. "Hm... none."
Douglas looked up. "C'mon, Donnie, it's nae that hard. If ye had ten—"
"Ah would give ye all o' them because ah love ye," Donald said with a perfectly straight face.
Douglas stared at his twin with a look of disbelief. "Och, that... t-that's disgusting. Get outta here."
Donald tilted his head. "Why?"
"Ah said, go!" He lightly shoved his brother off of their bed.
"Alright, fine."
Donald left the room and, not knowing what to do next, decided to go to the one room he always found his way to no matter what building he was in: the kitchen.
Since the twins' adopted guardians weren't at home, Donald decided to sneak a package of cookies out of the pantry and hoped that they wouldn't notice that one was missing. As he walked back down the hallway, he looked down at the bag in his hands and got an idea. Donald tiptoed up to the doorway of the twins' bedroom and peered in.
He almost dropped the cookies when he saw that his brother was crying.
Douglas was still sitting on the edge of their bed, and tears were streaming out of his eyes. Although he was sobbing, Donald saw his little brother stop crying and smile for a second, then his lips trembled and he buried his face in his hands and began to sob again.
Losh sakes, Donald realized. He's nae crying because ah said somethin' tae hurt his feelings—he's crying because ah said something nice tae him!
Douglas wiped his eyes and took a deep breath. Suddenly, a package of cookies landed on the bed next to him, and he looked up to see his twin standing in the doorway with a loving smile on his face.
Douglas wiped his nose on his sleeve, then he patted the spot on the bed next to him and opened the package of cookies.
When Donald sat down next to him, Douglas handed him half of the cookies. "Ye ken... Ah ken you're giving me all of these cookies, but ah'm still giving ye half of them... because ah love ye tae."
Donald wrapped his arm around his brother in a side hug, then the two enjoyed their cookies together as they went back to doing their homework, occasionally sharing little glances and smiles that affirmed the twins' love for each other.
