Part 1: Damon Salvatore
Damon Salvatore, a 17-year-old boy, is preparing for his first date with a girl he met in class. He's dressed in slacks and a white button-up, far different from his usual attire. Damon preferred to wear his simple t-shirt with a nice leather jacket, but he wanted to give a good first impression. He set up a beautiful array of meats and cheeses on a charcuterie board, accompanied by his favorite bottle of wine that he had been saving for a special occasion. His apartment was dark because of the thick curtains he had covering the windows, and of course, because his favorite color was black.
Damon checks the clock and realizes that his date will be there soon. He begins to quickly tidy up his apartment and puts out family photographs to try and appear normal. Meanwhile, he hears a quiet knock at the door. He hesitates and fixes his shirt before opening the door, revealing a 17-year-old girl in a dainty floral dress. He looks at her in awe, forgetting to properly introduce himself. "Hello, Elena," he says with a slight raise of his eyebrows and a grin. "Please come, in." He says as he steps back to allow her inside his apartment.
Her eyes gaze over the assortment of food that he laid out on the table. "Wow, I can't believe you did all of this for me," she says as she takes a seat on the couch.
"Oh, it's nothing." He says sheepishly. He walks over and sits next to her. He turns on the television and begins to look for a romantic movie to watch. "Do you have any suggestions for the movie before we begin eating?" he asks her politely.
"Yes, actually. Could we watch the Titanic? It's one of my favorite love stories." She says with a huge smile across her face.
"Of course! Every girl loves that movie," he says with a smirk while he puts on Elena's favorite movie. About ten minutes into the movie, he realizes he forgot something. "I'll be right back, darling." He darts up and quickly walks over to the kitchen to grab a large knife for the cheese. Meanwhile, Elena pulls out a small mirror from her purse and fixes her hair, making sure it looks perfect before Damon returns. Then she notices a piece of meat stuck between her front teeth, so she grabs a small pocketknife from her purse and carefully picks at her teeth, hoping he doesn't notice.
Damon pauses before walking back over to the couch and glances towards Elena. He can see her reflection through her mirror, and she can see his. They both lock eyes with one another and Damon walks closer with his knife looming over her. Elena turns around, unfazed, and they both smile and laugh about the incident.
Damon sits next to her and begins cutting the cheese. "So, tell me about yourself. I know we just met, but I want to get to know you more." He asks as he scoots a little closer to her. Elena looks at him, uncomfortably. Everyone knows that her parents both died in a car accident over the summer, and she hasn't been the same ever since. But Damon is a transfer student, so he has no idea about her past, and she wants to keep it that way. She wants to move on and leave her old life behind. She already broke up with her boyfriend after the accident and she's trying her best to be happy with her new life.
"I'm just your average teenage girl. I have a younger brother, Jeremy, and I have two best friends, Bonnie and Caroline. What about you? Do you have any siblings?" she asks him, trying to change the subject.
"Yeah, I have a brother named Stefan. We both live here together with our uncle, but we used to travel a lot as kids. Although, I think we are both ready to settle down here in Mystic Falls," says Damon.
"That would be nice," says Elena. She begins to fantasize about having a relationship with him while she tries to forget about her parent's recent death. Damon, on the other hand, starts thinking about how special she is and how he wants to protect her at all costs. He recognizes her from his first night back in Mystic Falls. He remembers seeing a car fall off a bridge and into the river. He swam down there and tried to save the girl and her parents, but there was only enough time to rescue one of them. After starting school, he realized that the girl from that night was Elena and he wanted to get closer to her. Although, he can never tell her that he was the one who saved her because he's afraid that she will hate him for not saving her parents instead.
They spend the rest of the movie cuddling and then he takes her home and kisses her goodbye.
Part 2: Elena Gilbert
Months have passed and Damon and Elena are very close. She spends almost every night at his apartment. Today, when she gets home from class, she immediately hangs her keys and purse on the wall hook and kicks off her shoes. She feels at peace with Damon, and it finally feels like home. Her childhood home reminds her too much of her parents and makes her feel sad, so she prefers being at Damon's apartment. "Damon! I'm home!" she exclaims.
She waits for a response, but there isn't one. Something feels different today. The apartment is much dirtier than usual and a wave of darkness washes over her. She slowly walks into the living room but stops suddenly when she sees Damon sitting over a dead body. She immediately notices the bloodstains on his chin, but the lack of blood on the floor. Her eyes graze over the body and she notices a bite mark along the man's neck. Where did the blood go? Damon couldn't possibly have eaten it. Right?
Damon jumps up and starts to panic, coming up with excuses. "I found him like that! I swear!" he yells.
Elena looks back at his bloodstained mouth and begins to cry. "No Damon. I don't believe you," she cries even harder. "I thought I could trust you," she says with her voice muffled by tears. Damon approaches her with his arms stretched out for a hug, but Elena quickly runs to the door and grabs her keys before driving away.
Part 3: Crime Scene
Weeks have passed since Elena found out that Damon was a vampire. She has come to terms with his hidden identity, but part of her knows that his actions are wrong. Every day she gets home from school to find another dead body lying on the ground, and every day she grabs a mop and cleans it up, like clockwork.
"Thank you for everything you do for me," says Damon after they finish cleaning up the body. He washes his hands and embraces her when suddenly, they hear police sirens. "Hah! It sounds like someone else died next door," he laughs.
Elena looks at him disappointingly. "I don't think so," she says.
The police bust open the door. "Damon Salvatore you're under arrest for the murders of multiple people," says one of the police officers as he handcuffs Damon.
"And to think that I actually trusted you!" screams Damon as he's getting yanked outside. The police car drives away with Damon in the backseat. One of the detectives remains in the house and takes photos of the crime scene. Elena watches as he photographs the floor and her cleaning supplies. Then she turns around to see another officer entering Damon's apartment.
"Thank you, officer," she says as she reaches out to shake his hand. But instead of shaking her hand, he grabs her arms and handcuffs her. "What did I do?" she asks in complete shock. But then she remembers the cleaning supplies….
