Chapter 1: The Date?

Dark brows furrowed deeply as Rengoku's eyes scanned over crowded words that were embedded onto the pages of his history textbook. The words were crowded and very jam-packed with information … but he knew that if he tried, he could retain at least a good portion of it.

It wasn't long until midterms would hit and Kyojuro was determined to score high on that upcoming exam. As an older brother, it would be best if he made the best role model for his younger brother that he could.

Even if Senjuro never planned on becoming a teacher, just showing him that scoring high on important tests such as these was possible even for someone like him … it would be good enough of a feat to perform. Hopefully it would give his younger brother more motivation to 'set his heart ablaze' as he would say! He was such a bright young kid, much smarter than him even, he just needed a small boost of confidence to get himself moving further.

Unfortunately, this wouldn't be such an easy task for him to complete, especially with all of the ruckus going on outside of his dorm.

There was so much laughter and yelling … Did everyone have to be so loud so late at night? It was almost 11 o'clock. Shouldn't they all be asleep?

A small groan left Rengoku's lips as he pinched the bridge of his nose in slight annoyance, very tempted to just slam the door open and tell them all to be quiet. It was hard enough to concentrate as it was. Even the music blasting into his ears from his earbuds wasn't enough to keep the noise out.

His brows furrowed deeper as Kyojuro narrowed his concentration down to the page once more. Though instead of skimming, he began reading each line word for word to try and drown out all of the chaos going on in the background … but it was all so TAXING! Would he really be able to retain any information at this point? He still had algebra, english, philosophy …

He held the book close to his face, trying to keep those negative thoughts out of his brain … no wait! He needed to retain the information on the page! Not just keep out those crazy thoughts … oh boy he was overthinking again.

The final straw for him, however was a loud "BANG" that was heard from outside of his room and against his dorm room door. The wooden slate literally rattled at the force pushed against it … all of the information just flew out of his brain at once, along with that noise.

A small tick mark formed at his forehead. Oh he was lucky that he didn't have a pencil in hand right now otherwise he would have to get himself a new one …

He let out a soft sigh before the sound of small wheels rolling was heard as Kyojuro's small office chair pushed outwards, bringing himself to his feet abruptly. Broad shoulders moved side-to-side as he hastily made his way to where all of the noise was emitting from. Not even minutes passed when he wrapped his hand around the metal doorknob.

A grunt escaped his lips as he tried forcing the door open against whatever resistance was present outside of it. It felt almost as if it were stuck … was there someone passed out against the door?

His eyes rolled as the smell of alcohol filled his senses from the small crack he managed to make. He should have seen this coming when all of these loud noises began, there's no way that they would cause a headache like this otherwise.

Kyojuro tried pushing his weight against the door once more, putting all of the muscle that he could into it before the door managed to slam open. That action caused a loud "SLAM" to echo throughout the hallway, drowning out whatever noise any of the other people in the dorms had to make. He hoped that whoever it was that was passed out didn't get injured …

Multiple heads turned in his direction, but regardless of the attention suddenly drawn to him, a wide smile was plastered onto his features, he felt no shame. This way, everyone would have to listen to what he had to say.

Kyojuro cleared his throat.

"Though your energy at this hour is admirable! It would be best if you turned it down a notch! Some people are trying to study here."

A very brief silence filled the hallways. The people snuck brief glances at one another right before they all unanimously erupted into laughter … he can't deny that all of this confused him, lips turned themselves downwards.

"Did I say something funny?", Rengoku's head quirked to the side in confusion.

One of the troublesome men in the hallway laughed walking up to the studious man with an amused smile lingering on his visage before placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Ohh Kyojuro", the ravenette cooed, wrapping an arm around the back of the blonde's neck, "Learn to lighten up a bit! This may be college but we're working on our own clock now. No adults telling us what to do, no responsibilities, there's no need to be so uptight."

His lips pursed into a fine line in disbelief as the smell of alcohol became pungent. Nose wrinkling just slightly at the strong smell. Perhaps they all had different thoughts in mind when it came to college … for Rengoku, this was the LAST place he wanted to goof off in. His mom was doing her best to help him with paying tuition in this place. If he could help himself, he would do his best to get himself in and out of this place as soon as possible.

If he were to work? That would call for even more of a reason why he shouldn't goof off right now. The amount of responsibility that would be placed on your shoulders would be immeasurable.

Rengoku's lips opened up to speak in retort, but a new voice joined in on the conversation before a peep could leave his brims.

"I say that you listen to the guy, Rengoku.", a very laid back voice chimed in from down the hallway.

It was then that an exasperated breath left the blonde's lips instead of words, the corner of his mouth curling downwards even deeper than before. Of all of the people in his dorm, this one he remembered the most.

Speak of the devil …

"Uzui.", Kyojuro's voice dropped in disbelief.

The snowy-haired male's shoulders shrugged at the blonde in feigned innocence, that charming smile that could make almost anyone fall at his feet just at the sight of it was plastered on his features. He had long white hair tied up in a ponytail, loose bangs framing his face almost perfectly, he was tall, very handsome even. Though honestly, Rengoku could care less. He knew that everything on the surface was all just for looks.

It was only their second semester in their sophomore year of college and he couldn't even count how many girls that this dude had brought back to the dorm building on both of his hands. All of them leaving heartbroken …. or so he's heard. You'd think that people would learn that this guy was bad news already, but apparently some just can't see past the illusion that was his good looks.

Granted however, he did work a job unlike many of the other guys in this room, but that was about the only grace that he could give him … He was a strange one though. If he wasn't here goofing off with these guys, it was hard to find him anywhere on campus. Rengoku couldn't deny that he was a bit curious on why that was.

… UGH - honestly it would probably be best that he didn't know what Uzui was doing at that time anyway.

Blazing hues just watched as the long-haired man walked past him, high-fiving every other guy in the room before taking a seat in a random section of the hallway, laughing with one of his friends about some girl that they might have spotted the other day ... they said something amongst the lines of the fact that they didn't see him at all this whole day? Well that is certainly a surpise within itself.

"You're locked up in your room 24/7. Can't you spare even a bit of time to go out drinking with your buddies?", that voice right next to him spoke up, snapping Rengoku out of his thoughts. His arm was still draped around the back of his neck.

The blonde's whole face phased into a deadpan, lashes fluttered.

" Tora, you realize that we aren't even allowed to drink right? We're underage."

A boisterous laugh left the ravenette's lips, his arm pulled away.

"You realize that's what makes this all much more fun right?", a small chuckle continued echoing from the pit of his throat before pursing his lips together closely. Then he let out a high-pitched whistle, causing all heads to turn once more, his arm unlatching from behind Rengoku.

He let out a very loud call … what did he think that they were in some sort of club or something? "Boys! What do you say about a guys' night out?"

Not even a second passed before cheers and shouts of agreement echoed through the hallway, the only one being mildly annoyed of course, was Rengoku. Minutes passed as the sound of agreement continued on through as though there might not be an end to them, but surprisingly enough another voice eventually spoke up, halting everyone in their tracks.

In one corner of the hallway, fuchsia hues stared forward, a sheepish lopsided smile making its way to the man's lips as he spoke, "Sorry, but I gotta take a pass on that tonight.", his hand was raised in apology.

" … Whaaattt?!", those surprised gasps filled the air once more, causing Rengoku to roll his eyes and wince at the sudden influx of sound that harassed his ears.

Tengen waved his hand dismissively, that nonchalant attitude still present in his tone of voice as he continued to speak. "Don't worry about it, I just got my own stuff in store for the night.". The man let out a groan as he pressed his hands to the ground, pushing himself up to his feet.

"Hahahaha! Got yourself another date dude? This late at night?", Tora spoke, walking up to the taller man.

"Eeehhhhh, you could say that."

"Is she hot?"

"DUH, that's a given when it comes to me."

"Bro why do you always get the hot chicks?! This is unfair. You and that stupid ass face of yours."

"You mean that FLASHY ass face of mine."

Rengoku stared ahead, unamused with the whole scene going on in front of him as the two continued on flirting … or whatever it is that you would call that. He didn't ask for any of this … he just wanted more time to study and instead he got himself caught up in all of this. Maybe he should just mind his own business next time.

Now that he thought about it, the library would be a good getaway.

With another sigh, his gaze ran over the watch on his wrist, curious about the time before his eyes widened in horror … It was 12:00AM already?!

"Thank you for the invite! But I have my own duties to attend to.", not much else was said before the blonde made his way into his dorm room hastily, not even a peep left his lips after that before the door closed in a much quieter manner than it was when it opened.

Unanimous shrugs were shared throughout the people who were gathered in the meeting area before making their way out of the area. A small scoff even escaping a certain ravenette's brims in distaste.

"Joy kill.", he muttered under his breath after the door had shut.

Noticing, but ignoring that comment, Tengen gave each and every one of them a wave before entering his own room, a small ghost of a smile playing on his lips before closing the door with a small 'click'.

In Rengoku's room, a small hue of orange light emitting from a lamp glowed onto Rengoku's textbook once more, lighting up the page and all of the different words on it.

The end of Kyojuro's pencil rubbed against his temples lightly in an attempt to keep himself awake. You would think that earlier situation would wake him up more … but that obviously wasn't the case. It happens too often to even affect him anymore.

Blazing hues became dim as eyelids began to close, his head slowly falling before it shot up again, eyes prying themselves open. They made an attempt to sear whatever information was in this book into his mind, but the energy just wasn't there.

Not going to lie, this repeated process almost made him want to cry. He wanted to sleep so badly … but there was that midterm too!

Rengoku's gaze slides over his earbuds that were placed off to the side. They were charging since he used them to their maximum power earlier, so there was no using those to keep him awake.

Kyojuro let out a pained groan before letting his head fall against the desk. It practically slammed against it, leaving a red mark on his forehead. Blonde locks sprawled over the table along with his shoulders once he settled in place, bangs falling over his face as he began to give in to his urge to rest. Maybe if he just slept now … he could wake up early in the morning tomorrow and just start studying again there …

Unfortunately for him, fate had other plans as a knock was heard against the door to his dorm room. At the unexpected sound, dark brows furrowed together questioningly. It prompted him to direct his sight to the sound's origin. Who would be up at this hour and want to come to his room of all places? Maybe they would go away …

A couple of seconds passed of silence … with that he was sure that whoever was outside had gone away. He was proven wrong immediately afterwards once that knock was heard again, although it was a bit louder this time around.

With that Rengoku let out a soft groan. The wheels on his chair squeaked again as energy made its way to his features once more, pushing himself out of his chair. He had to make himself somewhat presentable after all.

His fingers wrapped around the doorknob before twisting it, opening the door in the process as he peeked his head out. Rengoku was preparing himself to have to wander out and play a short round of hide n' seek since the likelihood of this being a prank was HIGH. After all that's what that group does best.

Surprise filled his visage however when that wasn't the case. There was no game. Instead his gaze fell upon a very tall figure, fuschia orbs staring down at him accompanied by a cheshire smile lingering on smug brims.

"So, mind being my 'date' for tonight, Rengoku?"

His jaw dropped, flabbergasted at this sudden request. This must be some form of another one of those guy's crude jokes again right? What else would be the reasoning for such an out-of-pocket question?

" … Wait, what?"
