What Do We Do Now:
Chapter 1:
May 10th, 1998
In his 17 years on this earth Harry James Potter had felt a lot of things, but today was the first time he felt aimless. I mean what does a soon to be 18-year-old feel when his greatest enemy, the murderer of his parents is finally vanquished. That was the conundrum Harry now faced as he sat at the Black Lake.
"Wotcher Harry," spinning around Harry saw the ever-beautiful Nymphadora Tonks, Teddy Lupin cradled in her arms.
"Hey Tonks, I assume that's little Teddy" Harry said smiling at his adorable godson.
"Would you like hold him?" Tonks replied holding Teddy towards him.
Harry grabbed his godson gently, holding him as if he was the most precious thing in the world and in that moment, he was convinced he was. Teddy looked up at his godfather and shifted his hair raven black, alongside matching emerald eyes, the same shade Harry was famous for. Basking in what little was left of his family and just enjoying the moment.
Tonks and Harry just stood there watching Teddy, minutes passed but time seemed to hold no meaning until finally Tonks broke the silence.
"Already more present." Tonks muttered.
"What was that Tonks?"
"Nothing," Harry raised his eyebrows at the metamorph until she sighed.
"It's just your already more they're for Teddy than Remus was." Tonks said tears forming in her lavender eyes.
"I always will be." Harry said firm in his convictions to his family, Tonks smiled for the first time in days, the first true happiness the crying metamorph had felt since her son's birth.
Taking a moment to control her emotions Tonks tried to turn the conversation away from emotional pain, "So what's next, what lies in store for the man who conquered?"
"Oh, bloody hell not another moniker" Harry groaned closing his eyes in defeat as Tonks watched amused.
"Maybe a nice redhead?" Tonks teased mirthfully.
Harry paused at that as if to choose his words carefully, "I don't think so Tonks… when we kissed before the final battle began it felt hollow. Like whatever we had was gone, I think we just changed too much."
To say Tonks was surprised would be an understatement, "I thought you two had that whole epic love thing going on?"
"Why does everyone think that I mean we dated less than a month and honestly it felt more like a way to disconnect from the reality of all the bad things that were going on at the time."
Holding her hands up in surrender Harry motioned with Teddy, placing him in her now waiting arms.
"Well, you better make sure you explain soon, I'm pretty sure Molly's already planning your wedding, then again I'm sure she's been planning it since you were 12."
Running his hands through his unruly hair he muttered fantastic.
"Anyway, to answer your question from before, first I plan to go settle up with goblins. Me and Kingsley have a meeting at noon, Then I think I might go see the world, after the funerals anyway." Harry added somberly, "How about you?"
"W-w-well after the f-funeral's I think that I'm just going to be there for me mum and little Teddy here." Tonks replied, tears once more welling up in her eyes.
Harry immediately wrapped her and his godson in his arms eliciting a choked sob from Tonks and giggle from Teddy, which caused Tonks sob to turn into chuckle of her own.
"Come on Tonks Lets go get some breakfast," Harry said pulling her with him towards his first true home.
May 11th, 1998
Not having heard from Harry how his meeting with the goblins went, Tonks became worried for him. She set off to Hogwarts to find him. It took her nearly 2 hours to find him sitting at a windowsill in the Astronomy Tower.
"Harry?"
Harry span towards her leveling the Elder Wand at her, seeing who it was he lowered the Hallow.
"Sorry Tonks." He said sheepishly not dignifying it with a response she sat opposite from him.
"Everything ok?" She questioned.
"I don't know." He said twiddling the deathstick in his hand.
"Talk to me Harry, what happened with the goblins." Her eyes pleading with him for answers.
"The truth." He whispered.
Grabbing his hands in hers to stop his erratic hand motions. He looked up at her with tears streaming down his face, this look nearly broke her. This man had done so much for their world and all he had to show for it was a dead family.
"My whole life was a lie." Hurt seeping from his voice.
Frowning she went to ask, until he silenced her with a look as he continued.
Taking a breath, "after making reparations to the goblins, greedy little buggers." He muttered. "They insisted I go through a comprehensive check for spells since I never responded to any of their missives. It wasn't good."
Taking a moment to collect himself he continued. "They found a web of compulsions and lies. Multiple obliviations, compulsion charms, and even core and ability bindings."
Tonks hair turned blood red in anger before she could explode in anger Harry grabbed her hands firmly, shifting her hair back to the mousy brown it had started as.
"Apparently Dumbledore was so convinced I had to die to defeat Tom, that he purposely inhibited me by blocking part of magic and abilities." As he said this his face had a look of deep concentration as his hair shifted to a bright sky blue.
Tonks jaw dropped as Harry just smirked at her reaction.
"The goblins broke an old obliviation. I escaped the Dursleys when I was 9. When Dumbledore," he spat the name, "found me 2 months later he blocked my metamorph ability, probably because he was afraid, I would get away, thus ruining his precious greater good."
Her hair shifted back to the blood red in her rage. It took her a moment to utilize her occlumency to get in control of her emotion, Harry needed her right now. With her emotions and hair back under control she motioned for her friend to continue.
Harry smiled at her reaction, before his face took on a deep frown as he remembered this morning's conversation with his former lover and his now two former friends.
Tonks waved her hand in front of Harry, causing him to leave his thoughts. "Har? Where'd you just go?"
Sighing before replying. "Just remembering this morning with Hermione, Ron, and Ginny." He finished with a scowl.
"I assume it wasn't good?"
Huffing he started, "Not good is an understatement, after explaining everything to them they basically said he did the right thing. Apparently even in death the old codger has a hold on them. I couldn't be trusted to not run according to Hermione, and doing so would have doomed everything, my feelings be damned." He paused for a sec taking a calming breath, "that wasn't the worst though, Ginny just looked at me like I was a piece of meat or like she couldn't wait to try her new 'toy'" finishing with air quotes.
Tonks sat there stunned at the callousness of his friends, people who were supposed to be his best friends. She had always hated the reaction Ginny had shown, she was used to people looking at her like she was a whore because of her abilities.
She pulled Harry into a hug of understanding as he finally broke into pieces. He sobbed his heart out that night to her, broken because of the expectation that followed him and now would include how others saw him due to his ability.
In the Astronomy Tower that night a bond was forged between Nymphadora Andromeda Tonks and Harry James Potter. This bond would prove to be unbreakable in the years to come, thus changing both their lives for the betterment of both of them.
September 8th, 2004
Tonks was excited, today was the day. Harry was coming home for the first time in almost 6 years. After that disastrous heart wrenching night on the tower, she had convinced Harry to come home with her. He spent the next 6 months with her family, helping her and her mum take care of Teddy, and truthfully take care of them. At the same time, she helped him master his metamorph capabilities. To her and her family they got the better deal in her own opinion. She got a confident that cared for her as a person rather than an object of lust. Her mum got the son that she always wanted but could never conceive, she was unable to have children after Dora, who was a miracle considering the Blacks had interbreed so much that they left most of their progeny sterile or barren. Teddy got a better father than the one he had been born with.
Remus had always been distant and worried that Teddy would inherit his lycanthrope. Maybe if he had lived, he would have shaped up and become the husband she deserved and the father that Teddy did. She had come to realize over the years that after Sirius had died, Remus had given up on life. She wondered if he even truly loved her or if he married her to do the right thing after he knocked her up. Knowing these questions would never be answered saddened her, but she couldn't live her life in the past.
Those 6 months were some of the best of her life, unfortunately it wasn't meant to last as Harry was plagued by everyone's expectations of the 'man who won'. Before he left, he had explained to her that he couldn't stand to stay near those who had destroyed him that day. Merlin how she had come to hate those three for their actions towards him. Time proved to show how bad they truly were, she was glad she talked Remus out of making Hermione Teddy's godmother, Hestia had proven to be a wonderful godmother to young Teddy.
Even though they were separated by a great distance, Harry had insisted on a goblin post box. The box she had was synced up with his, by doing so it was basically instant delivery. One thing they had agreed on was at least 3 letters a week to keep in touch, most weeks they would have a dozen each. It was their instant messenger according to Harry, whatever that was.
Gradually she realized that he had become the most important part of her life, outside of Teddy and her mum. She noticed during the 3rd year of his departure, when she and her family had spent a month in Japan with him, that she was falling in love with him. She hadn't been intimate outside of the occasional romp with Hestia and her now wife Penelope Clearwater. It had taken Hestia and Penelope to get her to explore the possibility of a romance with her now best friend, at least she now thought of Harry as her best friend. It took her almost a year to come to terms with her feelings for the emerald eyed man. She decided that she would let him know how she felt when he finally returned to Britain.
Year 4 and 5 of his departure quickly passed with no trips, those month-long trips twice a year had been a wonderful distraction from her life. Harry had been busy those two long years, he had been studying in a place called Kamar Taj with sorcerers.
Sorcerer magic was feared in Britain, with all records of it redacted, the only reason she knew was because she was a former auror. As an auror they were to give the sanctum sanatorium in London a wide berth. It surprised her that her Harry was able to channel the magic required to become a sorcerer. It was extremely rare for a Wizard or Witch to be able to utilize the different magic that sorcerers or sorceress used. Harry had become a personal student to the Sorceress Supreme, a position that was highly regarded, even by those that were in the know about sorcerers in the wizarding community. It surprised her that The Ancient One had offered him the position when she retired, he had turned it down. He said that someone named Strange would be a better candidate in like a decade. How he knew that she didn't know, he would always dodge the question.
Those almost two years of not seeing him had almost caused her emotional turmoil, thank Merlin for the letters, without them she probably would have hexed him for not being there. During the 6th year the trips resumed with them taking an additional two-month trip in America, where Harry was completing the stages to become an Animagus. It was no surprise to her that his form was a flyer, it did surprise her that his form was magical. There weren't many magical Animagus, the only one she had ever met was her 'uncle' Sirius, who had the form of the grim. Harry's animal form had become the mythical Thunderbird, the locals who had taught him it had been ecstatic when he brought the lightning. Teddy had a look of awe on his face as he watched his godfather create storms.
During those two-months she had tried to keep the lid on her now full-blown love for the man. She had failed spectacularly as her mum had noticed. Thankfully she hadn't said anything until they returned home. She had teased her mercilessly, only the promise of telling him when he returned later that year to Britain ceased her mother's actions. Though she did tell her she better tell him because she wanted more grandchildren. Tonks had gone red at that, she had never been so embarrassed, she was thankful that Teddy was sleeping.
Tonks was ecstatic that Harry was coming home, he had written her a letter tell her that he would be arriving today. He would be arriving in less than 10 minutes. She hoped that he wasn't bringing anyone back with him, not that any letters indicated a paramour. Tonks hoped he returned her feelings, gone was the woman that chased Remus. She didn't want a relationship where she was the only one doing the work. More and more she realized her previous folly, not that she hated her marriage, it did give her Teddy after all.
These were the thoughts that plagued her as orange sparks opened in the foyer of Grimmauld Place. Her heart leapt as Harry stepped through the portal, he had told her that he preferred this to portkeying or apparating.
When he stepped through their eyes locked, in his gaze was deep affection and what Tonks thought was love or rather hoped. Deciding to forgo caution she stepped next to him as the portal closed, it would be up to him to initiate anything. Quickly she worried that he didn't feel the same way, at least until he grasped her and poured all his feeling into the kiss that would be the start of a relationship that would become the focal point for the rest of their lives.
As the kiss deepened, they were startled by someone clearing their throat. Tonks turned around at the noise, annoyed because of the interruption. Standing in the opening that led to the kitchen stood Andromeda Tonks, who had a look of amusement and happiness on her face. Andromeda had been hoping for this very outcome for almost 6 years. She had never taken to Remus, all she saw was a man beaten down by life, a life he would drag her daughter into. Harry had become like her son, and she had seen the way he would look at her Nymphadora when he thought no one was looking. Confronting him he had revealed that he had always had a crush on her, but she had just lost Remus and didn't feel that way about him. Oh, how she wished he was Teddy's biological father. It amused her how three years later Dora would get a love struck look every time the letter box would chime.
"Now Nymphadora dear, I told you to tell him how you felt, not express them." Andromeda said with a grin on her face that grew wider as the two metamorphs had blushed redder than a Weasley's hair color. "Wow, a blush, usually you two can control yourself better than that." Andromeda teased letting loose a chuckle as her daughters hair turned a bright violet, her new beau's hair eliciting a similar look.
"MUM!" "ANDI!" Harry and Tonks protested.
"Oh, hush dears, it's a mother's job to embarrass her children. I may not have raised or birthed you but you're like a son to me young man." This caused Harry's hair to turn sky blue in contentment as a soft smile graced his face. "Although you might be my son sooner rather than later if my Dora has anything to say about it." Andromeda finished with a finger on her chin looking at them in contemplation.
This gave the two metamorphs a bright blush, but before their protests could be fielded, a bright blue haired missile collided with Harry.
"DAD!" Teddy shouted causing Harry's face to light up at his godson. They had given up on Teddy calling him dad at this point, Teddy had just said everyone needed a dad, and Harry was his.
Lifting Teddy in his arms he spun him around, getting a squeal of delight. Both boys' hair cycled through a variety of colors at this. Tonks emotions erupted in her chest as she watched the two boys, she loved the most in the world. Seeing the expression on her daughters face she had felt pride and happiness at their family. She moved to her daughter and hugged her to her side.
5 minutes passed like this as both boys played the rainbow game they had invented with their hair. Teddy's laughter and Harry's teasing/playing continued until Tonks decided to interrupt the moment.
"Ok, that's enough you two, it's time for some breakfast."
"But MUM!"
"No buts mister, go wash your hands you can play with Harry later."
"FINE!" Teddy said stomping out of the room in frustration. They just watched him in amusement.
Andromeda shook her head and exited to the kitchen. Harry gave Tonks a look that set her heart ablaze as he kissed her softly, before pulling away and hooking her arm with his. As they went to eat, they were lost in each other as they contemplated the future, a future together as a family.
AN: Now this is a short that I wrote a while ago, it's set in the MCU. If I continue it (Which I have planned if I do) it won't be for a while.
Differences from canon:
Tonks wasn't at the Battle of Hogwarts, Remus abandoned them again.
Fred survived the fight, Percy didn't.
The whole Dumbledore being an evil bastard. Even though supporting evidence in canon shows him to be one.
Fleur divorced Bill, they realized mutually that they just didn't fit without the war. I have plans for Fleur for later in the story, not with Harry though. This story is just Harry/Tonks, no poly or harem. Though they will occasionally be with Hestia and Penelope. That's more about two friends helping their two bisexual friends start a family though, and since Tonks is an old lover of the pair, why pay for insemination when they can just have fun. Both couples will each be completely in love with their respective partners, so it won't be turned into drama of who loves who.
Also, no Ginny/Harry, I can't stand the fan girl nonsense. Who marries their stalker? As much as I dislike Harry/Hermione it should have been the canon pairing.
In this story Hermione and Ron won't become friends with Harry again, he doesn't forget. Ginny is basically nothing to Harry anymore, her behavior angered him. Neville will become his best friend, as he should have been in canon. Hestia and Penelope will become great friends also, and he would become their 'sperm' donor for when they have kids. Basically, becoming Uncle Harry to them and godfather.
He would also become an Avenger, as he has already been recruited by Fury. He will utilize his metamorph abilities along with his sorcerer powers to avoid persecution by the ICW.
In this story he will be MOD, Metamorph, and a Parselmouth (unlike most of my stories it is due to being a remnant from the horcrux rather than lineage.) Being the master of death and a Peverell will have a big impact on the Snap.
This is an overpowered Harry; he has had 2 years of training with the ancient one.
Year 1: 11/98-11/99: Traveling, Africa/India (Parselmagic) (Also Wakanda, magic users don't hide there. The only country in the world where the statue of secrecy is not enforced.)
Year 2: 11/99-11/00: Japan/combat magic.
Year 3: 11/00-11/01: Continued training in Japan, starts training in Kamar Taj in August 01.
Year 4: 11/01-11/02: Continuing Studies in Kamar Taj.
Year 5: 11/02-11/03: Ends training with ancient one in September 03, travels through America.
Year 6: 11/03-09/04: Spiritual Training in America (Animagus).
As people that have read my works know that I like Harry/Tonks, that's my main pairing I work with in all my fanfiction. Occasionally I throw in Fleur.
Now I've been getting some negative messages and reviews about my work. I don't mind constructive criticism but bashing for the sake of bashing is annoying. I don't mind being told how I could do better; I may not take every idea, but I do read suggestions. I have also been getting a lot of messages about my release schedule, I try to post at least 3 chapters a week, but life does happen, I don't have time to write every day and somedays I come home exhausted and want to relax.
The last 2 weeks have been busy, and I'm stuck on an Unexpected Development, I know how to continue it (I have it planned after all) but I'm stuck on how to approach it, the last chapter was rushed out, I wasn't particularly happy about it. New Dimension Same Problem chapter 2 is currently being written, I just wanted to type this out first (I had this handwritten.). Expect a chapter of that sometime this week if everything goes ok. I have two more stories I have written the first chapter for, mostly because that's where my muse decided to go last week. I don't know if I will release them just yet, I don't want to have to many unfinished stories out there, I will release them if I get a favorable response though to release them.
Anyway that's it, sorry for the delays of certain stories and my silence. Hope if you read this you have a good day/night.
