3 One Good Scare

"Sam." He nearly jumped out of of his skin when Dani's voice came out of nowhere. She appeared, as Phantom, floating in front of him. His eyes locked on the neon green ectoplasm leaking from a cut in her side.

"Dani!" He cried out scrambling over to her.

"Sam I fucked up." She deadpanned.

"Yeah, you're bleeding!" She glanced down at the cut in her side and shook her head, transforming back into herself, the cut though remained, leaking a bit of slightly glowing red instead of the neon green it had been. Dani frowned.

"Didn't expect that to transfer. But that's not what I'm talking about!" It was then that Sam spotted the sword in Dani's hand, green and glowing and smoking.

"Tell me that's not." Sam deadpanned and Dani shook her head.

"I could but I would be lying. Please tell me you have the book." Dani was clearly panicking. Sam nodded.

"It's with my stuff in the hall closet. Lancer said I couldn't bring it in with me." No sooner had Sam mentioned the teacher's name than the door to the room opened. Lancer entered looking down at his clipboard.

"Alright Miss Fenton, it's your turn. Mr. Baxter put up a good showing, what do you have for me?" He asked still looking down at his clipboard. Panicking Dani drove the point of the blade into the floor in front of her makeshift throne. That was a mistake. A wave of power shot through the room, sending Dani skidding away from the blade. Lancer looked up and let out a low whistle. If Dani hadn't been so worried about what she'd just done she would be impressed too.

Her cheesy decorations had shifted, plastic bone turning real, cotton cobwebs turning to spider silk, and most worryingly of all the plastic spiders were stirring and swelling. Dani glanced at Sam.

"Please go get the book." She begged under her breath and he nodded practically running out of the room. Lancer on the other hand stepped further into the room nodding.

"Very good Miss Fenton." He exclaimed poking what had been a dummy skeleton with his pencil and stepping further into the room not noticing the skeleton he'd poked reaching out a bony hand. Dani noticed though. Stepping behind Lancer she shaded one hand with the other and pointed a finger at the offending skeleton. A blast of green light escaped her finger, striking the skeleton in the center of the spine. It shattered apart, bones clattering to the floor making Lancer jump and turn. Dani his her smoking hand behind her back and grinned sheepishly.

"They're very fragile." She said with a forced laugh. Lancer nodded as Dani's eyes wandered back to the sword which had begun emitting the same acrid smoke that had appeared when the Fright Knight awoke. But this time it didn't resolve into a figure. Instead it shot up, phasing through the ceiling and leaving a feeling of dread behind it. Lancer nodded to the sword.

"Nice use of a smoke machine. But how did you turn the smoke green?" He asked looking impressed and Dani shrugged.

"Trial and error?" She said though it sounded like a question. Speaking of questions, where the hell was Sam with the book? One of the once plastic spiders was spinning a web over one of the three exits. It had swollen to the size of a full grown great Dane. Lancer balked slightly as it turned to them, pincers clicking and black lifeless eyes gleaming.

"You really went above and beyond Miss Fenton." He said skirting around the spider which followed his movements. Lancer turned to her. "How on Earth did you get that thing in here?" He asked as the spider hissed, the sound shaking the floorboards.

"It's a projection!" Dani claimed, her eyes never leaving the spider. She was about to shoot it, even though Lancer was still looking at her, when the back of the spider and a portion of the webbing was covered in green foam. It shuddered then shrunk back into its original plastic self.

"Very impressive." Lancer said not noticing Sam enter the room. Hanging from his arm was his usual purple spider backpack. In his hands was a large silver and green gun, if Dani didn't know better she would guess it was an overly large water gun. He slipped past what remained of the web and stepped up to Dani as Lancer marked something down on his clipboard.

"Well it looks like you have this well in hand. And it sounds like you even included an audio clue to Mr. Baxter's room." Dani went pale. Lancer was right, the sounds of scraping and moaning were coming from the door to Dash's assigned room. A high pitched scream told her Dash had discovered his now truly undead zombies and the slamming of doors and retreating footsteps told her that for once Dash had been smart enough to run, screaming from the house. That was going to draw attention.

"Where did you get the foam gun?" Dani muttered to Sam as Lancer moved back past the throne.

"I ran into your parents on my way here. They called it the Fenton Foamer, it's supposed to nullify ghostly energy. They usually try to force something on me and Tanya at Halloween, this year I just didn't say no." Sam said matter of factly, quickly shooting another of the skeletons as it began to move. Dani grinned at him as Lancer inspected another once false cobweb.

"Well you've certainly done a wonderful job Miss Fenton. Between this and Mr. Baxter's room, there's no way Tetslaff can claim she has the best haunted house anymore!" Lancer said grinning in triumph. "Congratulations you've managed to get yourself and Mr. Baxter out of detention." Dani's delight was short lived as a resounding crack sounded through the room. The ceiling above the far wall caved in and Lancer shrieked, clearly not having expected that, nor the ghost who came crashing into the room with the ceiling. It was the Fright Knight, sitting atop a horse black as a moonless night. Its mane and tail were purple fire and under one arm the Knight had Tanya who was somehow still clinging to the bright orange pumpkin candy bucket she'd had last time Dani saw her, though it was now slightly scorched.

"Dani! Don't let him get the sword!" Tanya called out.

"Silence whelp!" The Knight demanded and tossed Tanya through the room. She screamed as she landed in one of the large spiderwebs. Lancer blinked looking on in interest.

"Tanya!" Dani called out. Sam whirled aiming the Fenton Foamer at another swollen spider as it approached Tanya. A blast from the foamer had the spider shrinking back to its plastic self, Tanya falling free of the cotton webbing as Sam rushed forward to help her. Dani refocused on the Fright Knight. Through the hole he'd made in the roof she could make out a neon green storm spreading out over Amity Park. She couldn't let him get the sword. He spotted it and laughed.

"My sword at last!" He lept from his horse and lunged. Dani beat him to it though, her hand wrapping around the hit a second before his did. It didn't end up mattering though as the Knight yanked the sword free, slashing it and sending Dani flying. She slammed into the wall, crying out in pain as the injury on her side rudely reminded her of its presence. Lancer frowned stepping forward.

"Now I understand wanting to get out of detention but this is a bit much Miss Fenton." He was looking at Dani and didn't see the Fright Knight slash into his back from behind, he vanished in a puff of the same acrid smoke that was now swirling over Amity Park as the Fright Knight cackled.
