4 Fear Itself
Dani transformed lunging at the Fright Knight who batted her aside with ease. She went flying partway through the wall. The Knight laughed loudly pointing out the hole his entrance had created.
"Listen to the thunder of your doom!" He cackled. Thunder boomed as lightning cracked across the sky, a bright green flash of ethereal light. "My storm will spread out to every corner of this world! The Earth will be my new domain! And no one can stop me!"
"Not if I can help it!" Dani said shooting back out of the wall. She swung at the Knight and he slapped her down to the floor and laughed. "Which apparently I can't." Tanya and Sam lunged as they both cried out in fear. Tanya got there first, putting herself between Dani and the Knight. The Soul Shredded tore through her and she vanished, just as Lancer had in a puff of acrid smoke and Dani screamed out in rage. She lunged again this time her strike sent the Knight stumbling. Dani didn't let up, forming a ball of ectoplasm in her hands and blasting it at the Knight. This time though he was ready, batting her blast to the side with his sword.
While their battle raged Sam had dropped the Fenton Foamer, choosing instead to rip into his backpack and yank out the old book quickly leafing through it to find a way to save Tanya and Lancer.
"There's got to be some way to beat him!" Sam muttered under his breath, but that small exclamation was enough to draw the attention of the Knight who forwent his duel with Dani to lunge at Sam instead.
"You will never find it cur!" He snarled. Sam wasn't sure how Dani beat the Knight to him but somehow she did, moving faster than he'd ever seen her go. She yanked him back just in time. The book in his hands acted as a pseudo shield. The sword split the front half of the book in two, pages flying, the remaining book in Sam's hands. Dani bodily picked Sam up swooping away from the Knight, though only to the other side of the room.
"This is all my fault. I'd take the stupid detention at this point over this." Dani said shaking her head. Sam shook his head.
"You've got a Knight to beat, stop beating yourself up and start beating him. I'll try to sort through what's left of the book and see if I can find a weakness." Sam said and Dani nodded.
"I'll try not to die again." She said flying off to face the Knight. Sam tore through the book, no longer caring if he ripped pages in his haste. Finding nothing in what little was left to him he dove to the fallen pages and began sorting through them, tossing aside page after page of useless information. Dani came flying past him as he laid hands on a miraculously intact page, the front was useless to him but on the back of the page Sam found what he was looking for.
"To cease the storm, to end the fear, the sword must sheath in pumpkin near!" He read off as a clang sounded through the room. Looking up Sam saw that Dani had grabbed the grandfather clock off the wall and used it like a club against the Fright Knight. They traded blows for a moment, the clock keeping Dani just out of range of the Soul Shredder. That was until the Knight sheered the clock in half with the blade. He lunged and Dani ducked, barely avoiding the blade, she didn't manage to avoid the metal boot to her injured side. She screamed but somehow kept her feet, sheer determination gleaming in her eyes. She grabbed his foot and threw him away from him, his boot came away dripping green.
"Anything?" Dani demanded, blasting at the Knight to keep him at bay for a moment.
"Yes! You need to stab the sword into a pumpkin!" Dani glanced at him with a frown.
"Where the hell am I supposed to get a pumpkin!" She demanded incredulously. Sam grabbed up the Fenton Foamer and shot just over Dani's shoulder, the spray of foam striking the Knight right in the helmet. He spluttered, stumbling back trying to rid his helmet of the foam. It was then that Dani spotted Tanya's dropped candy bucket, just a few feet away. Scorched though it was it held its shape well, the plastic black smile still standing out against the now burnt orange of the pumpkin. The Fright Knight snarled and lunged swinging the blade as he did. This time though Dani was ready for him. As he swung the sword down at her she caught the flat of the blade on either side, halting the sword mid swing. The Knight's eyes widened under the helmet as Dani took a step forward forcing the blade to move with her.
Desperation gave her the strength she needed to twist the blade, jarring the Knight's hands enough that the hilt slipped from his fingers. Dani took full advantage of the slip yanking hard, the sword completely coming free from the Knights grip. Not bothering to readjust her grip Dani dove forward driving the blade into the top of the fake orange pumpkin. Dani prayed to whatever higher power that might be out there that the pumpkin didn't have to be real.
Some higher power must have heard her because the pumpkin glowed from the inside, power blasting out from the sword. Dani's cheesy decorations returned, plastic spiders raining from what little was left of the roof.
"Trick or treat bucket head!" Dani said a smile breaking over her face. The Fright Knight snarled at her but he was already dissolving into acrid green smoke.
"I will have my vengeance! Mark my words!" He vanished into acrid smoke and the sword began to float, pumpkin and all, The storm above them flared forming a kind of vortex above them.
"It looks like it's sucking the sword back into the Ghost Zone." Sam said and was surprised when his feet left the ground. He barely had time to cry out as Dani caught him by the arm, yanking him back to the floor. She phased her arm through the floor, anchoring them to the foundation of the building as debris flew around them. As suddenly as it started the sword, pumpkin and all vanished and the storm went with them, leaving the night quiet and peaceful.
Dani withdrew her arm from the floor transforming back into herself as two bursts of light echoed through the room, Tanya and Lancer resolving from them both looking shaken. Dani let out a breath and Sam helped her up, one hand going to her hip to steady her. His eyes widened when his hand came away wet with glowing red blood. He carefully stepped in front of Dani as Tanya stumbled over to them pulling Dani into a hug. Lancer shook his head blinking around. He cleared his throat regaining his composure.
"Well, you're free to go Miss Fenton. With a house like this no way Tetslaff is winning." His heart didn't sound in it anymore. As he turned away the door to the room burst open and foam sprayed over everyone.
"Nobody move!" It was Dani's parents. Though they stopped shooting as they spotted no threats. Maddie rushed forward.
"Is everything ok? We picked up major ghost activity in this area, an ecto-storm like nothing we've ever seen." She said checking over all three teens. She missed the injury to Dani's side, or thought that it was part of her costume, after all normal blood didn't glow.
"We're fine mom." Dani said shaking her head, letting the foam slide off them. Lancer glared at her parents as the three teens slipped out of the house. Sam squeezed Dani's hand.
"Come on, we can take care of your side at my place, my parents are out for the night." Tanya said, not having let go of Dani. She reached out and squeezed Sam's shoulder and the trio set off away from the house.
