Dani would admit in hindsight letting herself get caught by her father to be handed over to Vlad had not been the best idea in the world. But it did get her the information she wanted.
"With you two out of the way it'll be easy to steal your Fenton Portal!" Plasmius cackled.
"Why do you need the Fenton Portal! You already have a portal Plasmius!" Dani called from the cramped interior of the Fenton Weasel. She hadn't expected that particular device to be so effective, she couldn't phase through it, she was curled up, crammed at stuck. It was highly uncomfortable, she was going to have bruises upon bruises after today.
"He has a portal? You have a portal!" Jack asked. Plasmius laughed.
"Had, unfortunately. That's what happens when you forget to change the ecto-filtraitor. Ta-ta!" He laughed and the alley grew quiet. Dani heard a thump, her father must have sat down next to the Weasel. He huffed, Dani frowned, was he crying?
"Fantastic, I've lost the respect of both of my daughters, and now I'm going to lose my portal too." Dani cleared her throat. Something was going off in her brain, like a klaxon warning her that her home and family were in danger and she'd caused it.
"Jack," she was never going to get used to that, "you're gonna lose a lot more than that if your ghost portal explodes."
"Portal's not gonna explode. Dani was supposed to change the filter three days ago." Dani rolled her eyes, guilt settling in her stomach.
"She's a teenager! She doesn't listen to adults!" She snapped smacking her hand against the inner wall of the Weasel.
"You don't know my daughter!" Jack snapped at her. Dani growled under her breath, resisting the urge to shout that she was his daughter. Instead she decided to go for the logical argument.
"Does she clean her room?"
"No."
"Did she finish cleaning the lab?"
"No." Jack was sounding much more unsure.
"Would she…" Dani thought quickly, trying to remember any other chores she might have forgotten. "I don't know, forget to install a handle on the inside of a weapons vault?" Silence.
"Oh fuck! The portal's gonna blow!" Jack cried out. Dani nodded and gasped as the Weasel whirred to life. Suddenly she was back outside the portal blinking at the bright pink lights of the ecto-energy cage Vlad had left them in. "I can't save my family alone, help me out ghost girl and I'll set you free." Dani blinked at her father.
"Um you just did." She pointed out holding back a snort. Jack's face went stark white. Dani shook her head. "Ok, Jack. You have a deal." He smiled and she grabbed a hold of his shoulder and phased them through the ground and out of the cage. She took off flying carrying her father. It was easy to carry her father. She really needed to test out just how strong she was, for now though she had to focus. She made it just past the park before something slammed into her sending them falling from the sky. Dani grabbed her father's hand fighting through the pain. For once she recognized the feeling of her transformation slipping and she pushed through it. She would not be transforming back in front of anyone in her family. She managed to catch Jack before he could slam into the ground, unfortunately he landed on top of her which was uncomfortable. It was a little heartwarming when he blocked her from getting hit by an ectoplasmic hacky sack. At least until he opened his mouth.
"Just so you know I don't enjoy helping you." The comment was off the cuff and if was like a stab to the back but Dani brushed it off.
"Then don't! I got these bozos, go save ou… your family!" Jack nodded taking off at a full run. Dani just hoped he could handle things for the little while it would take for her to deal with these losers. She dodged out of the way of a blast from the Guys in White, kicked a second hacky sack back at the Ghost Breakers and floated to the tiger.
"Boo." She said it with a grin this time and again the domino effect left the hunters in a heap, but this time Dani decided to add insult to injury. She snatched up the pile of people and tiger and dumped them in the dumpster behind the Nasty Burger, slamming the lid closed on them. It felt a bit like justice but she needed to get home to help her father. But as it turned out he didn't need the help. When she slipped into the lab, as Dani Fenton, uncomfortable being in the lab as Phantom while her father was there handing Plasmius his ass with a pair of metal gloves. Dani blinked, unnoticed by either of them. She dove to the side, skidding across the floor she took off across the room making straight for the filtraitor. She typed in the code and the old filter fell out into her hands.
"Where the fuck is the new filter!" Dani blinked as a new filter came into view, held delicately between metal fingers. She took it, handing the old filter to her father. "I probably should have done this any of the six times you asked me to." She said by way of apology. Jack shook his head a slight grin on his face.
"I'm kinda glad you didn't." He said turning back to his fight. Dani turned to the filtraitor and quickly installed the new one. Blessedly the beeping stopped. Jack had Plasmius by the collar. He looked downright shocked.
"It can't be! You're an idiot! AN IDIOT!" Plasmius shouted, still trying to scrub the rest of the old filter out of his eyes.
"I may be an idiot, but I'm the idiot who beat you!" Jack exclaimed nodding to Dani who laughed pressing the button to open the portal. Jack tossed Plasmius in and Dani laughed as she closed the portal. She rushed up to her dad and hugged him.
"That was badass dad!" He laughed and hugged her.
"Careful Dani Bear, I've got a lot of ectoplasm on me, I think a shower might be in order." Dani grinned up at her dad and nodded.
"I'll finish cleaning up the lab." Dani promised and Jack nodded. Then he frowned.
"Let me know if the ghost girl shows up. I don't think she will but she's the only reason I got here in time." Dani shook her head.
"I don't think any ghost will be stupid enough to come here after that." Well except the one who lives here. Jack nodded.
"Maybe." He pulled off the metal gloves and ruffled Dani's hair before heading upstairs. Dani sighed and shook her head. The fight had left a lot of broken beakers around the lab. She grabbed the hazmat gloves, broom and dustpan and began to clean.
