The trio entered the main room to see Shae and Muhammad getting ready to make some sort of dish, Jaime and Cassandra looking over some files, and Grant and Slade at the computer looking over some intelligence if Gar had to put his finger on it. They made their way to the father and son so Rachel could give Slade the vials of blood.

"Got the sample you requested Slade."

The two at the computer turned their heads to look at the three that had entered the room and acknowledged them.

"Thank you, Rachel. All went well?"

The girls exchanged looks while Gar shrugged and tried to play it off.

"About as well getting a needle stuck in you."

Grant made a huff that sounded like a laugh while the other three gave different looks to Gar. Slade's face was covered but Gar could still read his eyes. He didn't seem too convinced but didn't seem to push the issue further. Rose and Rachel however were looking at Gar as if they were trying to figure out how he could come up with something so quickly to try to cover up what had happened. Just how exactly could this boy completely forget about what had happened just minutes earlier?

After a moment, Slade nodded his head.

"Very well. We will take these to the lab to examine and look at. Once we see just what exactly is in your DNA, we can make a plan on how to make sure you become as great a hero as I know you can be."

Gar gave a nod in acknowledgment. He was actually becoming impressed at how much Slade was willing to help him. None of the Titans ever took the time to actually help him with his powers. They were always focused on everyone BUT him. Robin never helped him at all whenever he asked what he could do to get better. He had to do it on his own.

Gar was brought out of his thoughts when the smell of food came across his nose. Turning away from the group, he wandered over to where Shae and Muhammad were currently working.

"Smells good guys, whatcha got over here?"

Shae turned around to smirk at Gar's eagerness to eat.

"Chicken Marsala and some steamed vegetables."

Gar took another whiff and could feel his mouth begin to water.

"How much longer until it's ready? I'm starving here!"

Gar turned to his left to see Rachel had wandered over herself. She seemed to be as hungry, if not more so than him. Shae turned to here and gave a playful glare.

"Well you need to learn to be patient. You can't rush a good meal."

Gar turned to Muhammad who seemed to be bored and miserable. Walking over to him, he decided to try to lighten the mood.

"You seem to not enjoy doing this."

Turning to look at Gar, he gave a humorless chuckle.

"That's because I have no idea what the hell I'm doing here."

Gar laughed and gave him a pat on the back.

"Well if you need some help, just ask me dude. I have no problem helping ya."

Muhammad smirked and gave him a nod.

"I'll keep that in mind. But I'll warn you, I'm a slow learner."

The boys shared a laugh and Gar decided to help Muhammad cut the carrots for a bit. Once they had enough cut, Muhammad threw them into the steamer. At that exact moment, Slade came over and spoke to Gar.

"Gar if you wouldn't mind, I'd like a word with you on the roof."

Gar nodded and put away the utensils he was using into the sink to be washed. He followed Slade out the door and up to the roof. Once they reached the roof, Slade walked over to the bar and pulled out two glasses.

"Scotch or whiskey?"

Gar shrugged his shoulders.

"Doesn't really matter. Grant and I already had a glass of scotch. Could barely hold it down."

Slade chuckled at his comment.

"Yes well, he still isn't as good as his old man."

Gar chuckled and took a glass of scotch that Slade just poured. Slade poured himself one and raised his glass to clink with Gar in a toast. They took a sip and Gar followed Slade over to the railing on the roof. They stared out at the city as night was beginning to fall. The sky was turning a deep red as they lights in the city began to turn on. After a little while of silence, Slade decided to speak.

"I know you were trying to cover it up, but I know something happened in the med bay during your exam."

Gar took a sip and sighed. He knew that it was going to be hard to slip one past Slade but it was worth a shot. He dipped his head to collect his thoughts before giving Slade his excuse.

"I just don't like needles."

Slade nodded and swirled his drink. He looked over to Gar to see him looking out at the city deep in thought.

"Something from your past?"

Gar sighed and gave a nod to Slade.

"I know it seems ridiculous but there was something that happened a long time ago that has turned me away from any medical stuff."

Slade nodded his head. He wasn't going to push the issue. It seemed like it was already bothering him enough and he wasn't going to make him relive it if he wasn't ready. Switching the topic, he decided to get his mind off of it for the time being.

"I have a question for you Gar."

Gar turned his gaze away from the city lights to give Slade his full attention.

"Sure, what do ya got for me?"

Slade swirled his glass again before speaking.

"How we'll do you know Jericho?"

At this, Gar immediately lit up.

"Blondie? Oh he's great! I love that guy. He helped me and some other guys defeat the Brotherhood of Evil and save the Titan's ass."

Slade chuckled at Gar's enthusiasm.

"So you hold him in high regard?"

Gar nodded his head and took a sip of his drink.

"Well I've got a request for you."

This got Gar's attention.

"What is it?"

Slade sighed and decided to lay it all out for Gar.

"Jericho is my child, just like Grant and Rose. I would like for him to join us. We're putting together a second team and we might put together some more. As you know, we're covering a big area, not just a city. We'll need some more people to make sure we can help out any places that might be hit with terrorist activity in different areas at once."

Gar was putting two and two together really quick.

"You want me to reach out to him?"

He received a nod.

"Well I think I can do that for you. I know where he is and luckily enough, he has some friends with him."

Slade turned his head to Gar. This was news to him. If they could kill two birds with one stone that would be beneficial to everyone.

"You think you can persuade him and his group to come and join us?"

Gar chuckled and took a sip of his drink. Licking his lips to get a taste of the remaining droplets that were stuck on there, he nodded his head.

"I would frequently talk to them. We became good friends and he was always great to me. Plus, it'd be nice to have another familiar face here."

Slade nodded as he took in the information. If Gar and his son were already on good terms, it could be easier to get Jericho to join. Turning back to Gar, he spoke once more.

"If you know where he is, I'd like to ask if we could go speak to him. I'm not sure how much he'll listen to me, but if he sees you, it might convince him to join us."

Gar nodded his head and took another sip. He was beginning to think about it more and more. He couldn't see any reason why not to do it and he knew Slade was right. Seeing Jaime and Cass really helped push him over into joining, so Jericho seeing him might help recruit him too.

Another thought occurred to him. Slade was Jericho's dad, meaning Grant and Rose were his brother and sister. He began to wonder if they also were hoping to get their brother on the team.

"Have Grant and Rose talked to you about it?"

Slade nodded his head.

"Yes, it seems they would like to have their brother here as well."

Gar gave a nod and decided for a joke.

"Seems like it's going to be a family reunion around here."

Slade chuckled.

"As I said, this team is going to be like a family. And if it is, might as well have some of your actual family on it."

Gar nodded his head. They turned their attention back to the sky, which had now become a purple haze. Night was beginning to take affect as the streets had started to clear up a bit. After another moment of silence, Gar spoke up.

"So when do we go pick up Jericho and his friends?"

Slade turned his head towards Gar to speak.

"Tomorrow. I'd like to have him here as soon as we can. I'm sure Grant and Rose would be happy to see their brother again."

Gar nodded his head.

"Sounds good to me. I'm looking forward to my first assignment."

He raised his glass in toast, as did Slade. They clinked glasses and downed the rest of their drinks. As they did so, the door opened to reveal the team coming up to eat dinner. Gar could see the girls having a deep conversation while Grant, Jaime, and Muhammad were joking around and laughing. Slade turned to him and decided that their private talk was over.

"Why don't we go eat. I'm sure you're hungry and if we're not quick, Grant and Muhammad will eat everything."

Gar nodded his head and made his way over towards the group. As soon as he got within eye sight, Rose turned her full attention towards him. She reached her hand out for him to take and he did so. Giving her a quick kiss, he sat down besides her and Grant.

"How was the talk with dad?"

He smiled at her and gently caressed her hand.

"It was all good. I have my first assignment tomorrow."

This piqued both Rose and Grant's interest. Grant beat Rose to anything she could say.

"Damn, that was quick. What are you gonna be doing?"

Gar just smirked at him.

"Top secret. We'll be leaving early tomorrow to head to Tibet."

Grant quirked an eyebrow.

"Tibet? What the hell is out there?"

Gar chuckled and gave him a playful smile.

"Just doing some recon. Making sure there's nothing going on over there."

Grant seemed to be pleased and decided to focus his attention on the food in front of him. Rose however was a different story.

"My dad isn't getting you into something that could get you hurt is he?"

The playful smile on his face disappeared and turned into one of reassurance.

"Babygirl, don't worry. We won't be gone for long and when we get back, we can go on that date I promised you."

Rose gave him a loving smile. She was wondering if he had forgotten about it. Seeing that he didn't had warmed her heart.

"You remembered?"

Gar nodded his head at her.

"Of course I did. I'm a man of my word after all."

She chuckled at him and leaned her head up for a kiss. He went to lean in, but just before their lips could meet, he heard someone speak up.

"Hey, we're trying to eat here guys! Couldn't you two lovebirds hold off until after dinner?"

Gar turned to see Jaime sending them both a playful glare. Gar smirked at him and decided to humor his friend.

"Awww Jaime, I'm sorry you don't have yourself a girlfriend. Maybe you should spend some time out in the city and you'll find yourself one."

Grant, deciding to help his new friend out, went to play along with it.

"I don't know about that Gar. Knowing him, he'll put his foot in his mouth and end up with a back hand to the face."

Gar chuckled and watched as Jaime grumbled something under his breath. This caused the rest of the team to laugh as well. Gar turned his attention back to Rose and spoke quietly to her.

"When I get back tomorrow, I want you to put on your best and we'll go out for a date. I'm fairly new here so I don't really have any idea where to go if I'm being honest."

Rose smiled at his willingness to make her happy. He was definitely something different and she could definitely tell she was in love with this boy. She leaned in close to him to talk.

"I have an idea of where we can go. I appreciate your effort into making sure I have a good time. But if I'm going to be honest, anytime I'm with you I feel the best I've ever felt."

This made Gar smile. Rose was way better than any girl he had feelings for. Raven and Terra couldn't hold a candle to Rose. Someone who was actually happy with the way he is and wanted to make sure he's happy.

They leaned in for a quick kiss. When they pulled back they smiled at each other and just stared at each other. Neither one had ever felt this happy before and both were hoping it was the beginning of a long lasting relationship. As they were busy staring, Gar felt someone lightly bump his shoulder.

"Hey man, get some of this food. If you don't eat it then I will."

They tore their gazes apart to look at Grant, who was smirking. He pointed to the food and spoke again.

"Shae did a good job with this. You should try it while you still can."

Gar and Rose looked at each other once more before both started eating. Gar was in another stratosphere. He had a girlfriend that he could see being happy with for a long time. She was one of a kind and he was starting to feel a way about her that he had never felt before. And Slade was actually becoming a friend. He never would have thought he could actually see himself being on good terms with him, let alone working with him.

He glanced up to look at Slade and saw him looking back. He was wearing a mask, but he could tell that under it, he had the look a happy father would have. He would soon have all of his children here and Gar would help him with his goal. He could also see that he was making Slade happy with the way he was treating Rose. He gave a nod to Slade who returned it and continued on with his meal.

Gar then turned to Rose who was talking to Rachel and Shae. He gave her leg a rub and she turned to him. He gave her a smile and she reciprocated. Giving him a peck on the cheek, she turned back to talk to the girls.

He heard someone call to him and turned to see Muhammad and Grant in the middle of a conversation. They had asked him something and wanted his opinion. Gar could definitely feel that this was a way better environment than his last team had. He sat there and talked to the guys until it was time to clean up the plates and utensils and head to the fire pit. Little did he know, the good mood would turn somber as the night progressed.
