Gar and Rose had finished their meal and paid. Leaving the restaurant, Gar took her hand in his and walked down the side of the street. He was currently looking for somewhere to go when he saw a sign for a car dealership. He read the Arabic on the sign and then noticed the translation for it underneath. Lamborghini. He smirked and headed in the direction of it while dragging Rose along. She gave him a curious glance before noticing where he was heading.
Looking at the same sign, she didn't know what the Arabic meant but she then noticed the translation. Rolling her eyes, she smirked and looked over to her boyfriend.
"You know we already have one of those right?"
He looked over to her and laughed.
"Yeah but I want my own. I don't want to keep driving around Grant's little baby."
She chuckled and shook her head as they walked in through the door to the dealership. It took all of five minutes of looking around before Gar noticed one here liked. It was a teal color and looked exotic and fast. His mouth was practically watering as he looked at the leather interior. Rose just rolled her eyes again before smirking at her boyfriend's face.
Somebody finally walked over to them and began to talk to them about the car.
"Hello there, I see you take a liking to this car?"
Gar turned to him and nodded his head.
"How much for it?"
Both Rose and the man who walked over raised their eyebrows and gawked at Gar. The man shook away his astonishment before giving the information to Gar.
"It's around 4 million dollars. This is the Sían Roadster. There are only 19 of these made and this is the last one we have here."
Rose looked at her boyfriend as if he had grown two heads. That was expensive for a car and she seriously considered if he had enough for it. He looked unphased however, and he just pulled out a checkbook.
Gar wrote down the amount the man had said and tore the check out of his checkbook. He handed it to the man who looked as surprised as Rose was. He quickly ran the check to see if it would be approved. His eyebrows almost shot off his forehead once he saw it was and turned to Gar.
"Looks like you are going to be walking out with it. Would you like to take it for a drive?"
He shook his head and an easy going smile came across his face.
"Thanks but that'll be unnecessary. I will ask however, if it is okay for you to deliver for me."
The man nodded his head and Gar proceeded to explain that he would need to send it to the gigantic tower that was located where the new team of superheroes were at. After a convincing talk about how he was asked to find a couple of vehicles for them and he was just a subordinate for them, the man told him they would have it delivered to them this evening.
The couple left the dealership and Rose immediately turned to look at her boyfriend.
"How do you have that much money to just piss away on a car?"
Gar however just smirked and lead her along with an arm wrapped around her waist.
"My biological parents had a trust fund set up for me when I was young. Once I turned 18, the money immediately went into my account. Steve and Rita were billionaires so when they passed, the money they had was also transferred over to me."
He looked down to her and leaned in to whisper in her ear.
"Why don't we head home so we can have that dessert you were telling me about?"
She turned to look at him and gave him a devilish grin. Grabbing his hand, she lead him back to the car and immediately hopped in. Smirking at her enthusiasm, he got in as well and started the car. After a quick kiss, he pulled out of the parking spot and headed back to the tower.
When they got home, Rose went straight to the shower and allowed Gar to go to the kitchen. He grabbed a water and walked back to look out at the evening sky that was now turning to a deep shade of pink and purple. His mind began wandering as he thought back to Slade's talk to him about becoming leader.
He still wasn't sure if he should be leader. Grant was the oldest and probably had been fighting and in the business as long as he had. Sure he hadn't always been a hero, but he knew his friend was well aware of what it takes for a team to be successful.
His mind also wandered over to the second team they were beginning to form. It was nice to have Joey and Kole here, as well as her big bodyguard Gnarrk. But he couldn't help but wonder who else could be a good fit. He didn't want it to be filled with ex-Titans; that could lead to an untimely reunion that he wasn't ready for. It also wouldn't help if the League had begun searching for him and Cass. If they had begun recruiting and were accidentally found, that could lead to a huge fight he was not yet ready for.
He sighed and rubbed his eyes as the toll on the day started to catch up to him. He hadn't had to shoot a gun in years. It was the first time he had killed someone since he watched his parents die. While it has been for a completely different reason, he couldn't help but feel a sense of deja vú.
The doors to the room opened and he heard small footsteps making their way over to him. He didn't turn around as he was still looking out at the evening sky and was contemplating on if he should be leader or not.
Rachel had walked in looking for a quick bite to eat before heading to the training room for a quick workout. As she walked in, she noticed the lone form of Gar standing at the huge window looking over the city. He seemed to be thinking about something and it looked to be taking a toll on him.
She frowned as she took in his features. Whatever he was thinking about, it looked pretty serious. Sure he had only been there for a couple of days, but she had taken a liking to him. He had been through way more than any of them had but still managed to keep a smile on his face.
Walking over as quietly as she could as to not startle him, she cleared her throat and spoke.
"You okay?"
He turned to her and gave her a friendly smile before nodding his head.
"Yeah I'm alright. Just a crazy day you know?"
She nodded and smiled at him. He wasn't wrong about it, being that it was the first time that they all had been fighting together for the first time. What was supposed to be a friendly meeting with the President turned into a gunfight that had been deadly.
"You look like something is bothering you. Talk to me for a second."
He narrowed his eyes in thought and his mind started to go in different directions. Slade had told him to talk to her or Grant about if they think he should be leader. But what if they disagreed with him and thought otherwise. He didn't want to ruin any friendships or have any animosity towards each other. He took a breath and looked at her for a brief second.
When his eyes landed on her, she could see that it was about something serious. Seeing his face contorting into a small frown, she felt hers turning into one as well. She didn't know if he was having second thoughts about something but she was going to do what she could to help him out.
He nodded his head towards the couch and he took a seat. She followed him as well and watched as he took a sip of his water. He played with the cap of the bottle for a bit before clearing his throat.
"Slade wants me to be the leader of the team."
She watched as his eyes never met hers as he was still focused on the cap he was twiddling around in his fingers. So this is what he was worked up about. She allowed a small amused smile to take over her features before speaking.
"But you don't seem to fully agree with his decision."
He shook his head and put the cap on the bottle before setting it down. He leaned back against the couch and took a deep breath before finally glancing over to her.
"There's a lot of things that could happen. I don't want any animosity between me and the team if they don't agree with the decision. Plus, there are other viable options besides me."
Quirking an eyebrow, she leaned back as well and watched as he glanced back to the window.
"Who do you think should be leader?"
He sighed and shrugged his shoulders.
"Well there's Grant. He's been in combat for a while as well and has been here longer. You're one of the oldest members here and have a good sense of protection and are very smart. Even Rose could be a good fit to lead the team, as she's just like her brother when it comes to doing this sort of stuff."
She watched as he wiped a hand over his face and sighed again. He turned back to her and spoke with what sounded like pure honesty.
"I just don't want to get someone killed. I can't die, but everyone else here can. I would much rather be the one to take a bullet than send someone out there who can't survive like I can."
She felt her chest ache at his words. So that was the main issue here. He was scared of sending someone into a situation where the odds of them not making it out outweighed the chances of them living. She smiled as the thought came across her that he was so blind to the fact is that is why he would be a good leader.
She reached her hand out to place on his shoulder. Catching his attention, she gave him an easygoing smile and spoke to him.
"What you just said is why you should be leader."
She watched as he looked at her confused. Her smile grew and she adjusted herself to sit next to him.
"You put the team before yourself. You'd much rather be the one to take the fall or bullet before anyone else. That's what Slade saw in you and he's not wrong. You'd be great and I'm sure that you're the best option for it."
He looked at her and was amazed at how honest she was. How she was able to see what Slade saw and he didn't was interesting. What she said was starting to lift weight off of his shoulders that he didn't even realize was there.
Seeing that she was getting through to him, she smiled again and spoke with a little more affirmation in her voice.
"You need to know that we would follow you to the end of the world. When Slade was putting this team together, he was looking for a leader that would put the team first before the mission or their ego. If you would open your eyes, you'd realize that's you. It's sweet to see how humble you are but you need to be more confident in yourself that you can do it. We'll all be behind you, you won't have to question that."
He gave her a smile and placed a hand on hers that was still resting on his shoulder. Nodding his head he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Well that's good to know. I just didn't want you guys to disagree with the decision."
She gave him another warm smile and patted his shoulder.
"We're all here for you. If you need to talk, you can always come to me."
He gave her a nod and smiled.
"I will. Thank you Rachel."
They stood up and she gave him a brief hug. He smiled as he returned it. Pulling back she looked up to him and smile as well.
"Call me Rae."
He gave her an amused look before smirking and gave her a joke.
"I used to call a teammate Rae. Got me a lot of lectures."
She chuckled in amusement before giving her own smirk.
"I'd like to think I'm not like her. She seemed like a bitch to be quite honest with you."
Gar threw his head back in laughter and wrapped an arm around her. It wasn't often that when he thought of Raven it made him smile, but with what Rachel had just said, he couldn't help but crack a smile at it.
Calming down again, he gave her a friendly smile and patted her on the shoulder.
"Well, thanks Rae. You're quite the big sister."
She gave him a smile and a brief hug again before both heard a chirping sound. Gar looked down and pulled his phone out of his pocket to see he had gotten a text from Rose.
Ready when you are.
He smiled down at the message before looking back up to see Rae smirking at him.
"Someone expecting you?"
He gave her a shrug and tried to sound nonchalant about it.
"I guess she wants to show me something real quick."
He couldn't help but crack a smile as he saw her smirk growing and her amusement becoming more prevalent in her facial expression. Rolling her eyes, she chuckled and nodded her head towards the door.
"Don't keep her waiting. And use protection."
He shook his head in amusement. He began his walk to the door feeling a lot better after his with Rae. Just before he walked out, he turned to her one last time and offered her a grateful smile.
"Thanks again Rae. It really means a lot."
She nodded her head and returned the smile.
"Anytime Gar."
With one last glance, he turned back around and headed out the room to go find his girlfriend.
