'Hello everyone. Glad to be back writing. Sorry it has been awhile. I have been through a lot in the last year. I hope you all will enjoy this story as much as I have.'
To Love What's Lost
It was night time in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Normally the city would become quiet shortly after sunset, but not tonight. Tonight was Carnival, where everyone would gather and throw a huge party. Everyone would be happy and have an amazing time before they would head back home, where, more than likely, the party would continue. Even birds and animals would attend the party. It was fun for everyone. Many nights like this brought couples, families, and strangers together. One particular couple in particular couple may not have the best of times.
Tonight was the night of Carnival. Blu and Jewel were both getting ready to attend the Carnival parade. Both of them had smiles on their beaks as they were prepping. "I cannot wait for tonight Jewel. I can't wait to dance with you again!" Jewel looked at her mate and said a little lowly, "It will be. I can't wait." The tone in her voice suggested something was wrong, and prompted Blu to ask, "Is everything okay my love?" Jewel looked at Blu, saying, "I'm fine. Just a little nervous about going. I haven't danced with you in so long." Although this was true, Jewel had something else on her mind that was bothering her, but she didn't know how to tell Blu about it. She didn't know how he'd react. "Oh you'll be amazing, my love. You always have and always will." Blu said, lovingly. He put his wing around her and said, "Come on my angel, let's go shake our tails feathers." He said as he began to walk out of the hollow. Jewel hesitated a bit as he walked in front of her, but then followed soon after, taking flight out of the hollow to Carnival.
After a silent ten minute flight, Blu and Jewel reached the stadium. They found a secluded rooftop spot away from people and other animals. Blu and Jewel sat on the edge of the roof overlooking the parade. Blu was watching as the floats went by, amazed at the creativity and beauty of the floats. Jewel, on the other hand, was lost in her thoughts. She didn't know what she was doing or how she would explain to Blu about what was happening with her. Blu turned to Jewel and noticed the look on her face. "Jewel, what's wrong? Is everything okay?" He asked, concerned. Jewel looked up at him, but didn't dare look into his eyes. "I-I don't know." Blu got closer to his love and wrapped a wing around her. "Come on baby, it's okay. Tell me what's wrong." He said to her. Jewel looked at Blu and saw the smile he had on his face. It broke her heart when she saw it. Tears started to form in her eyes. "B-Blu I'm s-sorry." Blu had no clue why she was starting to cry. "Baby, why are you sorry? What's going on?" He asked.
Just as Jewel was about to open her beak, they both heard somebody land behind them on the roof. Both of them turned around and saw another male Blue Macaw standing there. He was a bit taller than Blu with darker blue feathers. His beak was at an angle that almost made a rounded corner, unlike Blu's beak. He was the perfect picture of a blue macaw. Blu and Jewel both stood up with Blu still holding her in his wings. "Hey Jewel." He simply stated. Blu looked back at Jewel. "H-how does he know your name?" He asked. Terrible thoughts were running through Blu's mind, and he was hoping that what he was thinking wasn't true. Jewel tears began to flow down her cheeks as she said, "Blu," she sniffled, "this is Roberto. H-he is…" Jewel paused as she couldn't get the words out. She pulled him in tighter to her, hoping he wouldn't push her away. Blu turned his head, looking at the both of them. He then looked at Jewel in his wings. He stepped back away from her, releasing his wings from her with a hurt expression on his face. Jewel looked at Blu as he stepped back away from her. She saw the hurt expression he had and knew that he knows who that was. "Blu… I-I'm sorry." She put her head down in shame as Roberto walked up to her. He placed a wing behind her back to try and comfort her.
Blu, seeing this, felt an unbearable pain in his heart as it broke into pieces. He didn't know what to say or do. He thought for a few seconds and looked at the two, looking more at Jewel than Roberto. Jewel looked up at Blu and knew that she had just lost the love he had for her. Seeing him in pain hurt her, but knowing that she was the one that hurt him had hurt her just as much. Her heart was also breaking at that moment, almost feeling the same pain he was feeling. She stepped out of Roberto's wing and towards Blu, who backed up away from her. She stopped when she saw he wanted nothing to do with her. "Blu…" "No Jewel. Just-just stay there." Jewel stayed where she was silently crying. She had known that this was going to be emotional and painful for them, but not this much. Roberto decided to stay where he was as they talked. "Do you love him?" Jewel looked at Blu and nodded slightly. Blu had tears running down his face as he spoke again. "Did you ever love me? Was all this a lie?" Jewel looked into his eyes again. "No B-Blu. I did love y-" "Was the love I had for you enough? Was… was saving you enough?" Jewel continued to weep silently as her legs began to weaken under her. She collapsed onto the ground in tears, unable to say anything to her soon to be ex-mate.
Blu looked down at her, then at Roberto, saying, "T-take care of her. I-I don't know why I loved her in the first place." Jewel heard what he said and cried harder. The world around her froze as her heart stopped and shattered at those words. She had made a decision that broke her mates heart, and at the same time, her own. She didn't expect things to happen this way as she looked up at Blu one last time. He didn't even look at her as he turned around, walking away. Tears dripped onto the rooftop under him as she saw him take flight, away from them. Roberto walked over to her and laid a wing on her back. Jewel jumped up and wrapped her wings around him for comfort, crying into his shoulder. Roberto in turn wrapped his wings around her. "Shhh it'll be okay baby. It'll be okay. Just give him time." He said softly. Jewel cried harder and mumbled, "He… He hates me now Beto. He hates me and never wants to see me again. I still love him as a f-friend." Roberto pulled her in tighter, holding her as close as he could. "It'll be okay love. Trust me. He just needs to collect his thoughts. I'm sure you two will still be friends." Jewel sniffles as she opened her eyes, looking up to him. "Are you s-sure?" She questioned, tears still dripping down her beautiful face. Roberto wiped her tears away and kissed the top of her beak. "I'm sure baby." He said. Jewel slowly lifted her beak up to his, locking them into a soft kiss.
Roberto and Jewel kissed for a minute, before releasing, looking into each other's eyes. "Would you like to watch the rest of the parade with me?" Roberto asked. Jewel looked the way her ex-mate had gone then back at him. "I would like that." They took each other's wings and went back over to the edge of the roof. They sat down and watched the parade together, cuddling one another. Jewel looked back one last time before turning back around.
Unbeknownst to them, shortly after Blu flew away, Blu had landed on an antenna tower not too far away from them. He watched as they cuddled and kissed each other. Blu sighed and wiped the tears off his face. He was upset and angry with Jewel, but couldn't help but feeling happy for her as well. He knew he never deserved her. He was a socially awkward, domesticated bird. She was a wild free bird that deserved the very best. Blu turned around and looked over his shoulder at them. He saw Jewel looking back in his direction. "Goodbye Jewel." He said before taking off back to his hollow.
Once he reached his hollow, he stepped inside, looking around. All the memories that he and Jewel had together came rushing into his mind. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he saw the nest he and Jewel built together with their own feathers entwined in it. Out of anger, Blu grabbed the nest and threw it out of the opening of the hollow. He watched as it hit the ground at the bottom of the tree, breaking apart on impact. Blu's face showed agonizing pain as he fell to the floor. Blu curled up on the floor of the hollow. He began to cry out his sorrows until he passed out from exhaustion and heartbroken pain.
Weeks went by slowly for Blu as he laid in his hollow sobbing over his ex-mates decision. He blamed himself for the entire ordeal, saying he wasn't good enough, or didn't do enough for her. All he did was eat and drink little amounts of food and water, knowing he could barely eat anything. He was depressed and alone. He just couldn't stop thinking about Jewel. She was all he wanted in life. Nothing could replace her. She was what made him happy and loved, but now, he didn't feel anything but heartbreak. He needed to take his mind off of her somehow. He decided that a quick flight around the jungle might help take his mind off of her and bring some joy back in his life. He jumped out of the hollow and took flight into the trees.
Not too far away, Jewel was flying to her old hollow with a mango in her talon. She thought that giving Blu a few weeks to think will help him get over her. In her heart, she still cared for him and would do anything to be his best friend. She wanted to talk to him and try her best to be friends with him again. She reached the hollow and stepped inside. "Blu? You here?" She called out. She looked around and saw that the hollow was entirely empty, not even their old nest. Jewel set the mango down in the hollow and looked outside. She looked down and saw the nest they made together in pieces on the ground at the bottom of the tree. The feathers they entwined in them scattered all over the forest floor. Jewel felt pain in her heart seeing their nest in shambles. She looked back at the hollow and noticed some scratches on the walls. Jewel sighed as she thought about what Blu was going through. She plucked a feather of hers and laid it against the mango before leaving. She looked at the mango and feather, saying, "Oh Blu, I'm so sorry I did this to you." She didn't know if she could face Blu without crying her eyes out with what she had done to him. She took flight letting out tears as she returned to her new hollow.
On her way home, Jewel sobbed a little at what she had done. She had broke her happy and loving mate with one action. She had chose another bird over a bird that gave his life just to be with her a little longer. "I'm sorry Blu." She said as she weeped a little.
Jewel saw her new hollow and wiped her tears away. She landed inside of her hollow to see her boyfriend sitting in their nest, that was also entwined with both of their feathers. Jewel held back a sob as she remembered what happened to hers and Blu's old nest. Her thoughts were interrupted when Roberto spoke to her. "Welcome back honey. Have a nice flight?" He asked. Jewel nodded with a slight smile on her face. "It was nice. It's such a lovely day out. Anything you'd like to do for the rest of this amazing day cutie?" She asked, not wanting to go into detail about what she did while she was out. Roberto thought for a moment before saying, "How about we kiss and cuddle for the rest of today, my love?" Jewel smiled widely before approaching him, kissing him on the beak as she laid next to him.
Blu returned to his hollow a few hours after he left. Upon entering, he saw the mango in the center of the hollow. He inspected the mango before freezing up when he saw the feather. It was most certainly Jewel's feather. Blu whimpered as the thought of her clouded his mind again. He grabbed hold of both the feather and mango before setting them outside. He took one last look at the feather before going back inside. He couldn't bear to be reminded of her or even accept her gifts anymore. Blu returned to his sleeping spot against the wall, laying there as tears rolled down once again.
Two months had gone by since Jewel had broken up with Blu. Blu had begun to come out of the hollow more often in the afternoons. He enjoyed to sleep in late. He stayed away from almost everyone that came near him, in fear that they would ask him about Jewel. Most of his day, he would fly around the jungle exploring all the beauty nature has to offer. He enjoyed one spot in particular. It was a waterfall one mile west of his hollow. He found it by accident while he was flying around. He found this spot a few months before Jewel broke up with him. He only found this spot because he wasn't paying attention to where he was flying and crashed into a tree. He ended up landing in a large pool of water that had a waterfall draining into it. He found this place to be calming and relaxing. It helped him forget about everything that happened and is helping him move on. He visited this place everyday as a form of therapy. Even though he felt like this helped him out a lot, he still felt as if something was wrong.
Indeed something was wrong, but not with him.
Since the last time Jewel had visited her old home with Blu, she had only returned once, the next day. She had been wanting to talk to Blu and see how he was, but when she saw the mango and feather sitting outside the tree with him inside sleeping, she lost it. She bolted away from the hollow and to another tree. She felt tears begin to stream down her face again. Her heart began to ache as she began to think. 'I hurt him more than I ever could have imagined. He doesn't want anything to do with me. Why did I have to do this?' She then began to think, 'I didn't deserve him. We should have never met. He should be with someone else that will treat him with so much love and affection. I was stupid to ruin our love. I had it all, but I didn't think. I was wrong.' Since that day, nothing has been the same. When she was at home with Roberto, she would put on an act to make him believe that everything was fine. When he wasn't home, she would be balling her eyes out and crying over Blu. She kept thinking about that day that she broke up with him. The face he made when he learned of the truth, about how she loved a different macaw. The hurt in his words that shattered her heart and soul. But what hurt her the most… is what he said to Roberto before he left. "I don't know why I loved her in the first place." Those words stayed glued in her head since their break up.
Currently, Jewel was alone in her hollow crying. She couldn't keep going like this. Her feathers were beginning to fall out from stress. Her heart was always in pain. She couldn't stop crying for Blu. She realized that she couldn't keep being away from him. She was still attached to him, like the chain was still there connecting them both. She needed to tell Roberto this.
She waited a few minutes before Roberto flew into the hollow. He looked at Jewel and frowned as he saw her red puffy eyes and tear stains on her cheeks. He also began to notice the patches of feathers that were missing. "R-Roberto?" Jewel stammered out. Roberto walked up to her and kneeled down to her. "Oh Jewel. What's wrong? What happened? Why are you crying?" Jewel looked up at him. She swallowed a big lump in her throat and said, "I-I don't know what to do anymore. 'Sniffle' I don't know why I have done what I have. I just… I can't…" Jewel couldn't get the words out and continued crying hard. Roberto brought her beak up to his. He looked into her eyes. "I know how to fix this." Jewel looked into his eyes. "Y-you… you do?" She asked. "Yes, I do." He answered. Jewel continued to watch, listening to what he had to say. "For the past two months, I have noticed that you still have a place in your heart for him. A place that cannot be replaced by me. I know that this will be hard to do but there is no other way." He stopped and whispered into her ear. "Go back to him. Show him that you still love him. Do what you can to earn his forgiveness, even if that means starting over." He then kissed the side of her head before standing up. He picked Jewel up onto her feet and said, "I will always be here as your friend, Jewel." "B-But what about you? Don't you love me?" She questioned, a little hurt thinking he didn't love her. "I do love you. But I cannot get in the way of true love." He smiled at her. She smiled with tears in her eyes. "Thank you Roberto, for being a good friend." She kissed him on the cheek before flying as fast as she could to her old home, where she hoped Blu still was.
During her flight, she began to think of what she would say to Blu. She didn't know how to start, or what to say. She decided that she would follow her heart and hope for the best. Her mind told her that he would never love her like he used to, or even want to see her. He refused all memories of her, all material things of her, everything. It saddened her thinking that he might turn her away once she got there. Jewel saw Blu's hollow approaching in the distance. She saw Blu inside facing away from the entrance. Jewel suddenly flew down to the base of the tree and landed. She stayed close to the bottom of the tree, emotionally preparing herself for this. She looked down and saw the remnants of their destroyed nest. She whimpered and imagined what happened in that hollow the night she broke his heart. She didn't ever want to see him like that.
She took a few deep breaths before flying up onto a branch near the hollow. Blu was curled up in the corner of the hollow facing the wall. Jewel couldn't tell if he was sleeping or not. She called out lowly, "Blu, are you awake?" She saw Blu's body tense up at the sound of her voice. He slowly stood up and turned around to face Jewel. Blu stared into Jewels eyes as he slightly frowned. His expression scared her a bit as he asked, "What do you want?" Jewel looked at Blu apologetically. "Look Blu, what I did to you was wrong. I hurt you and destroyed everything we had built together. I don't know what I was thinking when I left you. You were the one who saved my life and made me whole. I-" Blu cut her off, making her flinch at the tone of his voice. "You say I made you whole, but then you turn around and cheat on me. So tell me. How? How did I make you whole?" Jewel looked down in shame. He could tell she was hurting for her mistake. Jewels wings slowly fell, showing Blu what she had been doing to herself. His eyes widened when he saw small bare patches of skin. He remembered the way she looked when he last saw her. Those weren't there before. Her feathers were falling out from the sadness she felt, and she had been plucking them with the stress she felt. After a long pause, Jewel said, "When you saved me from that plane, I knew that you were the person I wanted to be mates with. After everything that happened you were the one who opened my eyes and made me more comfortable in the world. You let me into your life, as I have let you into mine." Jewel paused as she thought about her next words. "I know you will never trust me or let me into your life again, after everything I did to you. I don't deserve anything from you. I never did deserve you. I should have realized that before I came back to you. I should have known that this would happen." Tears began to form in her eyes and drip down her cheeks. She sniffled as she began to weep. Blu watched as Jewel broke down in front of him. Even after everything that happen, Blu couldn't help but feel sorry for her. Blu sighed, saying, "It's been two months since the last time I saw you. The one bird I could trust with my heart… smashed apart my life and ruined me within a few minutes." Jewel began to cry more as she fell onto her knees, at a loss, unable to say or do anything but cry. "I tried everything to remove you from my mind. From my heart. Everything material I ruined to forget you. I just couldn't do anything to get you out." She sobbed harder as she felt the pain grow in her heart. The pain that Blu had experienced months ago, on that horrible night, was what she was feeling now. She felt lost.
Blu felt the pain in his heart return to him as he watched her crumble down. He then asked, "So why have you come back here to me?" Jewel stood up and looked at Blu. She wiped the tears from her eyes and sniffled. "I came back… to apologize… a-and to ask you a question." Blu raised an eye and asked, "What did you want to ask me?" Jewel turned her head off to the side. "Do you still…" she spoke lowly. Blu was unable to comprehend what she had said. He then asked her, "A little louder Jewel. I wasn't able to hear you." She turned back to him and hesitantly said, "Do you still… want me in your life? D-do you… still love m-me?" Blu's eyes widened. He hadn't expected her to ask that. He stood there staring at her for a minute, contemplating her words.
A few minutes went by and Jewel started to lose hope. She started to slowly back away from him, towards the entrance to leave. Blu noticed and began to speak, causing Jewel to stop. He didn't want her to leave without some answer from him. "I-I don't know what I feel for you, Jewel. I'm just so confused. Don't you love Roberto and want to be with him more than me?" Jewel looked into his eyes. "A few months ago, I thought I did, but that all changed when I last came here. I saw the way our nest was outside, the way our hollow was. But when I saw the mango and my feather outside, I realized that you were trying to forget me. So, I bolted away from you to help you forget me. I understood that I would have to live with my mistakes. That I would have to live alone with no one to hold." She paused and took a deep breath. "It was at that time that I realized that I was still in love with you. But knowing that I would never have you in my life again, not even as my friend, broke my heart beyond repair. You're all I have left, Blu." She silently wept as Blu stood there, taking in what he just heard. He looked down thinking of what he should do. He knew that she was sincere with her words. In their relationship, Jewel always told Blu that he gave her meaning and made her life whole. After everything that has happened, he just didn't know if that was the truth anymore.
"Jewel…" Blu said calmly, making Jewel look up to him. He saw the tears that were rolling down her cheeks. "I-I don't know what to say or do. I loved you. I gave my life and love for you, but you brought great pain to my heart. To our relationship. You broke my trust, and my heart. I don't know what to do. C-can you just g-go? I need time to think." He stuttered. Jewel felt the pain in her chest rise as Blu said this. It felt as if her heart had shattered into pieces, never to be put back together. More tears dripped down her face as her head lowered. "I-I understand Blu. I-I'll just leave you alone." She sadly walked to the entrance of the hollow. Before she left, she looked over her shoulder one last time. "I'll always love you Blu. I'm sorry for what I've done to you… Thank you for always being the best friend and mate anyone could have ever asked for. I will stay out of your life and not torture you anymore. If you ever need anything, you know where to find me." She could have sworn she saw a tear roll down Blu's cheek as she flew out of the hollow. She turned around, crying her eyes out, leaving Blu alone to his thoughts.
Blu was standing there lost for words. Tears began to leak down his beak as he dipped his head. He didn't know what to do. He still cared for her in a way. Even after the terrible truth she showed him, he knew that he couldn't hate her. In fact, he never felt anything but love and affection towards her. He thought back to his fits of rage. Even then he still felt love towards her, despite him ruining everything that they had done together. With everything running through his mind, he laid down on the hollow floor to rest. He would think about what he should do after he gets some rest. Blu closed his eyes and fell asleep moments later.
Jewel had just reached the Christ Redeemer statue, landing on the head. She was breathing hard as tears continued to flow down her eyes. She couldn't contain her sadness about losing Blu. She kept asking herself why she broke up with Blu. She didn't know exactly why she did it. All she knew is that she may never see Blu again. Without him, she didn't know what she'd do. She couldn't move on from Blu. He was all she ever wanted, all she had left, and she screwed it up with her selfishness.
Jewel collapsed and curled up as she cried her heart out. Her eyes were red from all the crying she had done, and her chest hurt from the heartbreaking loss she caused. She sniffled, "Why? Why did I do this? Why didn't I realize that what I was doing was wrong? I shouldn't have done this to him. He didn't do anything wrong. I was selfish. I-I don't d-deserve love. I deserve to be alone forever." Jewel whimpered to herself.
Unconsciously, she was plucking feathers from her body from the stress and sadness she felt. She looked around and saw that her feathers were littered all over the statues head. Looking down she saw larger patches of bare skin on her body and a feather in her beak. Spitting out the feather, Jewel wrapped her wings around herself. She continued to cry until she passed out. Tears continued to flow from her eyes as the memories of her betrayal became her nightmares.
A few hours past and it was about two hours before sunset. The sun was just beginning to set, creating an orange and golden color across the sky. Blu had begun to wake up from his nap. He stretched his wings and popped his talons before standing up. Blu looked around him and then to the entrance of the hollow, seeing a ghostly image at the entrance. The image showed the look of sadness Jewel had on her face before leaving. He couldn't stand seeing her in such agonizing pain, with patches of bare skin all over her body. After thinking for awhile, he sighed and flew out of the hollow. He knew what to do, and where to find her, but he had to take care of one thing first.
During the flight, Blu thought about everything that happened before and after their break up. Before, Blu and Jewel had an amazing loving relationship together. They did everything together. They supported each other, cared for each other, and, most of all, loved each other. After they broke up, Blu turned into a cold, heartless shell of a bird in his eyes. He didn't talk to anyone, or come out of his hollow for anything. He just didn't care anymore. He destroyed every memory of her but still couldn't get her out of his mind. He was still chained to her until the very end. He knew that his heart longed for her, as much as he did as well.
Blu saw the statue and began to fly up to it. He spotted a little blue dot on the top of it. He knew who it was. Blu touched down in front of Jewel, who was still sleeping. Inspecting her, he noticed larger patches of bare skin, even bigger than before, making him feel awful. He saw the tear stains running down her face, along with the feathers scattered all over the head of the statue. He knew exactly what happened when she left a few hours ago.
Being up high on the statue, the wind began to pick up, blowing the light blue feathers around. Blu took notice that she began to shiver slightly in her sleep. Blu frowned. He couldn't just stand there and leave her to be cold while she slept. Silently walking up to her, he laid down next to her, wrapping her in his wings. A weak smile appeared on her tear stained face as his warmth spread across her body. "Mmm… Blu." She cooed in her sleep. Blu smiled lightly seeing her smile again. He missed that beautiful smile.
Minutes passed and Blu continued to stare at her. Jewel began to stir in her sleep as she began to wake up. Blu watched as her eyes parted and her eyes locked onto his. At first she smiled, thinking that everything that happened was a dream. She looked around and noticed where she was. She now knew that it wasn't a dream. Jumping out of Blu's wings and standing up, Jewel stumbled back away from him, keeping her gaze low. "H-hey Blu." She said, sadly. Blu stood up from his position. "Hey Jewel." He started. "Do you have a minute to talk?" Jewel nodded slightly. Blu walked over to her and wrapped a wing around her. They walked over to the edge of the statue and sat down.
Both of them watched as the sun dipped below the horizon. Blu looked at Jewel. He could see the sadness and stress she was in. It hurt him to know she was hurting. "Jewel." He called. She turned towards him but refused to look into his eyes. "You know what I have felt for you. You know that you were my whole life, as I was yours. After everything that has happened, I didn't know what I felt for you." Blu could see the tears begin to form on the rims of her eyes. "I understand Blu. This was my fault. I didn't think about the decision that I made. I was selfish and I destroyed our relationship." Jewel paused, letting a few tears drop from her eyes. She picked her head up, looking into his eyes. Blu saw the tears flow down. "Blu, I hurt you and wronged you beyond measure. I betrayed your love. I betrayed you. I just… I can't deal with everything I have put you through. I made a stupid mistake. A stupid idiotic mistake that cannot be forgiven." Jewel looked away again. She sniffled lightly. "I deserve nothing from anyone. I deserve to be alone forever. No love. No companionship. Nothing 'sniffle.' I'm just so glad that I got to have you in my life. Those were the best times of my life, and I couldn't have asked for anything different." Jewel said as she heaved and tears began to come down again. She silently cried as Blu watched on. Blu put his head down as he couldn't bare to watch as she cried. He never could watch on as she cried. He walked up to her and embraced her. Although surprised, Jewel accepted the hug and returned it placing her wings around him, burying her head into his shoulder crying into it. "I'm so-so s-sorry Blu. You never deserved this. You d-deserve better than me. I deserve what I got for being a horrible mate to you." It hurt Blu to hear her talk like this.
"No." Blu said. "W-what?" She questioned, not knowing what he meant. "I said no Jewel. Look, I need you to stop crying and look at me." Blu said, looking down at her. He wrapped his wings around her lower back as she looked up at him. Tears ran down her face as she looked up at her one and only. "Jewel. I came here to settle things between us. After everything you have told me, I know that you can still find love. You still-" Jewel cut him off. "I'm sorry Blu. But I cannot love anyone anymore. I only love you, but I can't have you. Not after how badly I screwed things up. I-" Jewel was cut off as Blu put a wing to her beak. "Please Jewel. Just let me finish what I was saying." She nodded slightly, looking up at him. Blu breathed in deeply before continuing. "Jewel, you do still deserve love. Love that I have given you. Love that Roberto has given you. Love that friends have given you. You deserve so much love and affection Jewel. You are a fantastic bird and anyone that could be with you would be the happiest bird in the world. They get to have a loving, beautiful, and amazing macaw by their side forever. Don't you see that Jewel?" He told her. Jewel sighed and said, "I do see that Blu, but knowing that I caused us to break up, and how we broke up… just shows me that I'm not worthy of it." Jewel moved away from Blu. "The only bird I could've been with forever, could've been happy with forever… I pushed away and cheated on. I lost him… and I lost myself. I will love you forever Blu. You and only you."
Blu listened to Jewel as her head fell down in shame and weakness. He could feel tears begin to drip down the sides of his beak. Jewel looked at Blu one last time, separating from him, saying, "You can go now Blu. You don't need to comfort me anymore. I got what I deserved. I wish you the best of luck. You deserve someone who loves you more than anything in the world." She said with her head down, looking away from her lover and walking away from him slowly.
"But Jewel, I already have someone that loves me more than anything." Jewel flinched as she heard that. She thought he had moved on from her. "W-who?" Blu smiled slightly at her. "She is the most gorgeous macaw in the world. She is someone I would give my life for and give her anything she could ever desire. She is the one who makes me whole. I couldn't want another bird in my life." Jewel began to weep a little. "I think you know her very well." Blu added on, smiling at her. Jewel looked up at him, a sad and questioning look on her face. "Who… who do you love? W-where is s-she?" She asked. Blu walked up to her wrapping a wing around her. He looked down at her and lifted her head.
"The woman that I love more than anything… is standing right in front of me." Her eyes widened in shock. How could he still love her? "W-what?" "I love you Jewel. More than life itself." He said, smiling at her. "B-but why? Why would you love someone that hurt you so badly?" Blu held her close to him and said, "Jewel, I have loved you since day one. You know that. You're my reason to believe in love. Before I met you, I thought I was gonna live a long, lonely life, but when you came into my life, I just knew that everything would change. I knew that you were the one I wanted to be with. I wanted you to be happy, no matter what. So when you told me about Roberto and introduced him to me, although I was angry and upset, I felt that you would be much happier with him than me. I know you think that I would never love you again, but truthfully I have never stopped loving you." Blu said smiling at her. Blu saw a smile creep onto her face as tears of joy began to run down her cheeks. "I-I love you t-too Blu. I promise to n-never stop loving you." She stuttered out as more tears began to make their way down down her face.
Blu wiped the tears away. "Jewel, I want you to answer two things for me." Jewel looked up to him and nervously said, "Y-yes B-Blu?" Blu could tell that she was nervous about what he wanted to say.
"How long were you with Roberto while with me?" Blu asked, worriedly. He didn't want to interrupt a relationship that started before they even met. Jewel looked down. "I-I met him two weeks before we broke up." She started. "I saw him while I was flying around the jungle. I… I don't know why I didn't say anything. I don't know what possessed me to date him. I don't know why I didn't think about you. I-I don-" Jewel rambled, before being silenced by Blu. "Jewel it's okay. I just wanted to know how long." Blu said as he released her beak, wiping her tears away. Jewel smiled lightly as he did so. Blu smiled back and asked, "I don't want to see you release anymore tears, Jewel. No more plucking feathers either. I want to see you happy with a smile on your face every day. Okay?" Jewel nodded and smiled brightly at Blu. "Okay Blu. I promise never to do that again. I just don't know why I did what I did." "I understand Jewel. It's okay." She nodded before asking, "What was your second question?" Blu looked into her eyes and his smile dropped. "D-do you love me more than Roberto?" He asked slowly, worriedly. Jewel felt her heart drop a bit as he said this. "W-what? Of course Blu. I love you more than anything. You make me whole. You make me happy. You are everything to me. I couldn't imagine life without you. Even after everything I put you through, I still wanted you." She said, dropping her head slightly in shame. "I just didn't know what I was thinking." Blu smiled again and walked up to her. Jewel noticed and lifted her head. She looked into his eyes and was shocked at what happened next. She never thought that this would happen again.
Blu pushed his beak into hers as his eyes closed softly. "Mmph!" Jewel grunted when his beak clasped with hers. Her eyes widened in shock. He slowly pushed his tongue into her beak, reaching around her beak for her tongue. Jewels eyes rolled back as he made the kiss deeper. She pushed her tongue against his, tasting him. She had wanted this so badly. To feel his beak connected with hers. Tears of joy began to roll down her cheeks as her wings wrapped around him tightly. To say she was happy would be an understatement. Her heart began to beat harder in her chest as the love she felt for him began to pour out with every passing second.
Both lovebirds continued to kiss for several minutes before releasing from one another. Jewel had the biggest smile on her beak as she looked at Blu with so much love. Blu was smiling back, happy to be back with the one bird that could make him happy. "I love you so much Jewel." He said lovingly. "I love you more than anything Blu. More than anyone could ever know." She said as she pulled him into another passionate kiss.
Blu and Jewel continued to hold each other close as they watched the sunset. Blu smiled at Jewel and said, "My love. It's getting late. Would you like to go home to our hollow?" He said smiling. Jewel smiled at him, but then remembered what had happened to everything in their hollow. "I-I don't know." She started, "I th-think it'll bring up painful memories. I don't know if I can go back there. Can't we just sleep here?" Blu smiled at her and wrapped a wing around her. "It'll be okay Jewel. I promise." He said. Jewel thought for a minute then nodded. "O-okay Blu. As long as you're with me, I will be okay." Blu smiled and kissed her on the beak. They kissed for a few minutes before starting their flight back home.
Blu and Jewel flew home in silence. Jewel kept thinking about how the hollow looked. She didn't know if she could set foot in it again. The walls covered in scratches and the nest outside in shambles, it hurt her to see their home in ruins. After fifteen minutes of flying, they arrived at the hollow. Blu began to walk the entrance of the hollow, standing in the doorway waiting for his lovebird. He could see she was hesitant to enter. "Come on Jewel you will want to see this." He said smiling. Jewel slowly walked up to him and entered. What she saw next surprised her.
Instead of the hollow being in ruins, she saw smooth stained walls, with a few pictures of them carved into the walls, and a small window on the other side of the hollow. Jewel wept a little as she saw how Blu had rebuilt the hollow. But what made Jewel lose it was their nest. Their nest was put back together. With Blu's feathers intertwined in it. "I put it back together for you and I, but it is missing one thing." Blu said, smiling at Jewel. She slowly walked up to the nest, rubbing her wing on it. She looked back at Blu as he walked toward her. He smiled widely at her as she plucked a few of her feathers. She intertwined them into the nest and smiled. Their nest was complete. "Just like the old nest. Maybe even better." Blu stated. Jewel turned around and shot her beak into his. She kissed him with as much passion as she could bestow on him. They wrapped their wings around one another and fell into the nest. Jewel landed on top of Blu as they kissed deeper.
After a minute, they both released from the kiss panting. Blu smiled at his jewel and said, "I *pant* love you so much." Jewel smiled widely, saying, "I love you *pant* most Blu. Thank you *pant* for everything." He smiled at her and pulled her in close to him. "You're my life Jewel. I want everything with you by my side." He said lovingly. "Forever?" She asked, admiring him. "Forever and ever baby." He said leaning in close to her. The locked into another long and passionate kiss as they held one another close.
They continued to cuddle and kiss one another until they began to succumb to exhaustion. Jewel began to yawn, as did Blu. "I think it's time we get some sleep my love." Jewel yawned out. "I believe you are right my angel." Jewel blushed a bit before saying, "Would you um prefer to sleep alone or…" "Jewel I want you here by my side always. Never away from me. Come cuddle close to me baby." Jewel smiled and cuddled him close to her. "Thank you Blu for bringing me back to where I belong. I wouldn't be able to go on without you." She said in a low tone. Blu brushed his wing along her head saying, "You are my one and only Jewel. I love you so very much and would do anything for you." Blu nuzzled her and have her a kiss on the beak. "You're my life Blu. I love you." "I love you too Jewel. More than life." Jewel smiled hearing those words and closed her eyes. "Goodnight, my blue bird." Blu smiled saying, "Goodnight my precious Jewel." Both birds cuddled each other close and fell asleep with smiles on their faces.
Throughout the night, Blu and Jewel had peaceful loving dreams of each other. Jewel had one of the best nights sleep she's ever had. She had her lovebird by her side keeping her warm. She couldn't be anymore thankful to be back together with Blu. "I love you Blu…" she mumbled in her sleep.
Blu and Jewel continued to live in peace with one another. Jewel had shown her love for Blu through her actions. She would always make time for him, stay with him, and comfort him. Blu had done the same, vowing to never let her go again. Blu and Jewel did become great friends with Roberto sometime later. Roberto received forgiveness from Blu almost immediately.
It was now two months since Blu and Jewel got back together. Blu had been planning something special for Jewel. Blu had returned home to Jewel with a mango in his talon. He saw Jewel sitting in the nest relaxing. When she saw Blu land with the mango, she stood up and went up to him. She planted a kiss on his beak smiling. "Good morning my love." She said. "Good morning to you my Jewel of the forest." He said back, making her smile wider. "Ready for lunch?" He said gesturing to the mango. She nodded and began to cut it into pieces. "And after lunch I have a surprise for you." Jewel turned to Blu, handing him a part of the mango. "Blu you don't have to do anything for me. Having you with me is all I could ever want." She said lovingly, before biting into the mango. "I want to do everything with you baby." He says kissing her beak. He licked his beak tasting the mango juice from her lips. "You'll like what I have in store for you." He smiled before eating more of his mango.
The two finished their lunch a few minutes later. Blu began to walk to the entrance of the hollow saying, "Follow me Jewel." Both birds jumped out of the hollow, with Jewel following Blu. Jewel was trying to think of what was in the direction they were heading but couldn't remember ever flying this way. Blu landed on the ground next to a stream. The stream was flowing under some vines that covered up everything behind it. Jewel landed beside him. "So, what's this surprise Blu?" She asked, looking around. "This!" He says as he swipes the vines open showing her the beautiful scenery behind them. Jewel was in awe as she took in the beautiful sight. Seeing the waterfall and the small pool of water reflecting sunlight gave Jewel a sense of peace to her. "W-wow Blu. This is beautiful. Oh gosh." She said amazed at the sight. "I thought you might like it. I came to this place often to meditate or to think. I-I was also thinking to ask you a very important question here, before our breakup." Jewel whimpered slightly when Blu mentioned that. She just couldn't get it out of her head. "W-what was the question you were g-gonna ask me?" She asked, stumbling over her words in nervousness. Blu look at her and took her wings into his. Staring into her eyes, he said, "Jewel, we have been together for a long time. We have gone through more experiences and adventures than a large amount of birds could ever have gone through. Through thick and thin, you have been my everything. Everything I could have ever asked for. I would be lost if you had never come into my life. And I love you so very much." Blu paused as he saw tears of happiness begin to drip down her cheeks. He wiped them away from her eyes, smiling brightly.
"I want to ask you, Jewel, if you would officially become my mate and start a family with me." He said, slowly getting down on one knee. Jewels eyes widened as Blu told her that. Tears formed in her eyes again as she said to him, "W-would you want to, e-even after all that I have done?" Blu smiled brightly at her, "I forgave you because I could never stop loving you. I want to be more than unofficial mates. Would you do me the honor of becoming your mate for life?" Jewel smiled widely and screamed out, "YES!" Blu chuckled a little and got back up. She tackled him back down to the ground and gave him deep passionate kisses. Blu accepted the kisses and wrapped his wings behind her head pulling her closer into the kiss. Their tongues danced with one another as they kissed.
Blu and Jewel spent an entire week at that waterfall. Both birds were so happy to be with one another, and now they claimed each other as mates for life. The entire time, Jewel had a smile on her face, not only because she was happy, but she had the one bird that could complete her heart and soul.
Two weeks later
Jewel and Blu were in their hollow relaxing. Both birds sighed as they enjoyed a lazy day indoors with one another. Jewel had been thinking about her life and how much she appreciated Blu. In the last few weeks, she had gotten back together with Blu, become mates with him, and promised to always be with him. Her stressful thinking and sadness ended the night that she got back together with Blu. Her feathers began to grow back, and she always had a smile on her beak, as promised.
Blu was in the same boat, happy to be together again with his one and only. He always had his mind on Jewel. None of the bad stuff that happened before ever bothered him, because he knew that that was all over.
Jewel let out a sigh again. "This is the life. I get to have you next to me, all day and night. That must really be horrible for you. Right Blu?" She said sarcastically with a smirk. Blu chuckled a bit. "Indeed it does." They both began to laugh as they cuddled close to one another. Jewel looked at Blu, turning his head towards hers. "I love you so much Blu. You make me the happiest bird alive just by being here with me." Blu smiled at her and brought his beak close to hers. "And you complete my life Jewel. I love you oh so much." He said leaning in for a kiss. Jewel began to lean in as well.
Just as their beaks were about to touch, Jewel let out a groan of discomfort and wrapped her wings around her stomach. Blu had a look of concern on his face. "Jewel, what's wrong?" Jewel let out a low groan again as her stomach pain began to subside. "I'm okay. I just had a slight discomfort in my stomach, probably something I ate." She answered. Blu let out a sigh of relief. "Well okay. But if it happens aga-" Blu was cut off when she let out another groan, this one much louder than the last. Jewel began to sway as she was losing her balance. Just as she was about to fall, Blu came rushing up to her side and laid her in his wings. "I-I think I need to go see Tulio. I don't know what's wrong with me. Ohhh…" She groaned. "I'll carry you to him baby. Don't worry." Blu laid her down and hovered above her. He picked her up in his talons, looking down at her. "Are you okay love?" He asked. Jewel nodded wrapping her wings around her aching stomach.
Blu carrying Jewel took flight out of their nest, flying straight to the aviary. During the flight, Jewel continued to groan in discomfort as waves of pain grew in her stomach every so often, prompting Blu to fly faster. They reached the aviary within twenty minutes. Blu flew in through an open window and set Jewel down on the counter. "I'll be right back Jewel. I'm going to find Tulio to help you." He didn't wait for a response before bolting out the door to find the crazy doctor.
Jewel laid on the counter, her wings still wrapped around her stomach. The pain was so intense and she couldn't do anything to subside it. Tears began to leak out of her eyes as she felt like she was sick. She could only hope that Blu would bring back Tulio to help her.
A few minutes passed before Jewel heard the door fly open. She looked up with tears still in her eyes as she saw Blu and Tulio enter the room. Blu immediately went to her. "Jewel, it's gonna be okay. Please stop crying baby. You promised you wouldn't cry." Blu wrapped a wing around her and looked deep into her eyes. Blu wiped away her tears as she smiled at him. That smile turned into a frown as she felt more discomfort in her belly. Tulio stepped forward with a machine next to him and a scanner in his hand. "Okay Jewel. Let's get you comfortable." He said, laying a small foam mat and pillow down for her. "Lay on this on your back Jewel." Jewel did as instructed laying on the mat that was set down for her. Tulio slowly approached Jewel with the hand held device. Jewel looked over at Blu and grabbed his wing. "I'm scared Blu…" she whimpered. Blu brought his beak close to hers, giving her a little nuzzle, reassuring her. "It'll be okay Jewel. Trust me." He comforted. Jewel smiled as looked back at Tulio.
Tulio began to run the device on her lower stomach, which was cold and kind of tickled Jewel. He kept staring at the monitor that was connected to the device, scanning for anything that could be leading to Jewels pain. Tulio's eyebrows scrunched up as if he was confused. Taking a look over the same spot, his mouth curved into a large smile when he stopped moving the device. Staring at the screen, he said, "I think the two of you should have a look at this." Tulio turned the screen towards them, showing them what he was looking at. At first, both birds were staring at the screen confused. It wasn't until Blu's eyes lit up and a huge smile appeared on his beak.
Jewel continued to stare at the screen before looking at Blu. "What are we supposed to be looking at?" Blu turned to her before flying up to the monitor, with slight tears in his eyes. Blu pointed at the screen with his wing feathers. "Do you see these three dots?" Jewel nodded at him and he flew back down to her. "Well… um I guess you can say that we are going to need a bigger nest soon." Jewels eyes widened. Tears of joy began to gather in her eyes. Jewel tackled Blu to the ground, kissing him all over. "I'm pregnant! I'm pregnant Blu! We're going to be parents! I'm so happy!" She cheered. "The best parents my love." He said smiling at her. Just as they were about to get up Jewel crumbled on top of Blu, laying on his chest. "We can celebrate more later. Let's take care of your pain now." Blu looked up at Tulio who was still smiling at them. Tulio walked out of the room to retrieve the medication needed.
Blu looked up at his pregnant mate smiling at her. Jewel looked at him smiling with tears of joy in her eyes. "Blu… thank you. Thank you for being the love of my life and mate. For making me whole again. After everything that we have went through, I thought that my life was over. When I returned to our hollow and saw you trying to forget me, I thought that we were never to be anything. I stressed day and night plucking feathers and crying. I just wanted it all to end. I-I even tried to end it." Jewel whimpered lowly as Blu's eyes widened at Her confession. Jewel remembered her attempt saying, "When I left your hollow, I had thoughts going through my head, thoughts to end it all. I tried to just hit a tree and let the fall take me. I-I flew around it at the last second. I didn't know what I was doing. I had wanted it to end, but something from above must not have wanted me to." She confessed. "I continued to the statue and prepared myself to live a life of loneliness and solitude. I had given up all hope, and had no reason to continue on. But when you came to me and told me you still loved me, I knew that I had something to live for again. Now I have more to live for. The one thing I wanted for so long." Jewel looked deep into Blu's eyes. "A family… with you." Blu smiled widely and kissed her deeply. Jewel wrapped her wings around him as Blu did the same. They continued to kiss one another, loving and cuddling each other.
Tulio walked back into the room second later to be greeted with this romantic scene. He smiled lightly, waiting for them to finish. They separated from the kiss panting lightly. Blu was the first to say, "I love… you Jewel. So much." Jewel smiled as her heart was full of joy hearing those words. They both heard a small cough and looked over to see Tulio standing there, smiling. They blushed lightly before standing up. They looked at Tulio and smile sheepishly. "That was simply amazing you two. Congratulation once again. Now let's take care of you Jewel. This should help with the discomfort you feel." He said producing a small needle from his pocket. Jewel backed away a little, afraid of it. Blu stood next to her, wrapping a wing around her and grabbing her wing with the other. "Don't worry Jewel. It'll be okay. Just relax and keep your eyes on me." Jewel nodded and turned towards Blu. Tulio proceeded to give Jewel the shot, while Blu held her and comforted her.
"There we go, all better." Tulio said, removing the needle from Jewel. She looked back at Tulio and chirped in appreciation. He rubbed under her chin, saying, "You're welcome. Just come on back if you have anymore issues. Okay you two?" The two lovebirds nodded. "Good. Now I have to get back to work. Make sure you swing on by when the eggs hatch." He said walking out of the room. Both birds squawked at him before he left.
Blu and Jewel stared at each other with loving eyes. "Well my love, want me to carry you back to our hollow, where we can cuddle close and rest?" Jewel smiled at Blu and hugged him tightly. Blu hugged back as Jewel let out a few tears. "Thank you Blu. Thank you for being there for me. Thank you for giving me a family. I love you oh so very much." Blu looked her in the eyes. "No Jewel thank you. Without you I don't know where I'd be. You are the love of my life, and now we will have three chicks on the way. I love you so much Jewel. You make me whole." Jewel smiled at Blu a gave him a kiss on the beak. The kiss lasted for a minute before they broke it off. Both were in a trance of love as they looked at one another. Blu and Jewel smiled at one another, saying, "I love you." They giggled before deciding to head back home. Knowing that their future was about to change for the better. That both birds would have a life of happiness, and that they would share that happiness throughout the family.
They couldn't have wanted anything more. Having a happy loving family together and being together always, have brought them closer together. They have loved each other, even when they were lost.
