"Where's Kensi?" Nell asked Deeks as he walked into the bullpen about 10 minutes later.
"Taking a walk. Where are we at?" Deeks responded wanting to avoid getting into it.
"Ok… Uh, Sam connected with Brunson, he's setting up a meet at the marina now with Callen as the buyer. We're gonna need you guys to pick Callen up and head over there and get Kensi to set up on overwatch."
"Alright." Deeks responded as he went to wait for Kensi out in the courtyard.
After sitting on the bench in the courtyard for about 10 minutes, Deeks was pulled away from his thoughts by Kensi rounding the corner.
"Hey." Deeks said as he cleared his throat.
Kensi sighed deeply. "Hey."
"So…" Deeks began
"Listen…" Kensi started at the same time.
"Sorry." Deeks replied sheepishly. "You go ahead."
Kensi took a deep breath and sat down on the bench next to Deeks, albeit on the far edge, as far away as possible from Deeks without falling off. "Listen. I am sorry for how I blew up at you, but really Deeks, I don't know how to keep doing this. I'm sorry for what you've gone through and what you've been feeling since Afghanistan. But how the hell do you think I feel knowing that you feel like you're losing yourself because of me? That you… did what you did… because of me. I don't know how I'm supposed to help with that if you feel like I'm the problem." Kensi said, bowing her head and putting her elbows on her knees.
"God, Kens. No." Deeks said as he twisted to sit facing her. "This isn't you. There's nothing you need to do Kens. This is about me." He said, waiting for Kensi to turn and make eye contact with him, trying to see the belief in her eyes. He's not sure what he saw, but it wasn't belief. He sighed lightly, wanting to continue this conversation, needing to, but needing to do the job and put professionalism before their personal lives, after all, that was the crux of what their argument had ultimately been about.
"But we don't have time for that right now. We need to get to the marina and you need to set up for overwatch."
Kensi sighed in return. "Ok."
"You good with that?"
"Of course." Kensi responded, confused.
Kensi put her hand out towards Deeks.
"What? What's this?"
"Keys." Kensi said blankly.
Deeks looked at Kensi momentarily.
"For the car."
"Right. Keys. Here you go." Deeks said, tossing them over to her.
