She couldn't wrap her head around it: How was it possible that after all those years of believing that she wasn't good enough, it turned out that she got a gift after all? During the last four weeks, Mirabel finally started to heal after over ten years of doubting herself, but in only a few minutes, her uncle turned her world upside down yet again.

Mirabel turned her head up to the sky, trying to figure out the time. She frowned when she realized that she had spent at least three hours at the cottage, which was much more than she initially expected. The teenager hoped that her family wouldn't be too mad when she couldn't make it to the dinner in time; maybe they would be too distracted with all their questions for Bruno when he came back. Mirabel shook her head, knowing that her uncle and Elena wouldn't come to la Casa Madrigal for at least another three hours, giving her mother and aunt enough time to tear off her head before they find out about their secret niece.

Naturally, Elena and Bruno made her promise to not tell anyone their secret; they wanted to tell Abuela and the rest of the family as gently as possible about their secret relationship.

"It's not like they would believe me anyway." Mirabel mumbled to herself, almost tripping over a branch that lay on her path. Still, she did not only see Lina with her own eyes but also the love the three of them shared for each other. There was no doubt that the little girl was indeed Bruno's daughter, and there was no doubt that he would do anything for her and Elena.

Even if it meant to keep them hidden from their families and the whole town.

The thought haunted Mirabel since she was on her way home. She knew that her uncle counted on her, but she didn't know how she could possibly end a family feud that started decades before she was even born. She didn't even understand the entire reason why the Madrigals and the Morenos fought each other; she only knew that there was more to the story than her uncle told her.

Secretly, she wished that all the horrible things Bruno saw wouldn't happen, that he could just bring Elena and Lina home, explain the situation and make Abuela and Pepa scream at him before they would gladly accept his daughter and hopefully soon-to-be-wife into the family, everything without some horrible catastrophes.

Mirabel knew the moment she saw the torches that it wouldn't happen.

At least two people walked up the path she was following in the opposite direction, chatting while inspecting the trail for any footprints. The girl let out a silent curse, knowing that they wouldn't stop questioning her until she told them everything she knew if they saw her. Before Mirabel could find a way to hide from the two men, a hand pressed on her mouth and pulled her into the bushes.

"Shh!" Camilo held his finger against his lips, signifying her to stay as quiet as she could. He waited until the townspeople passed them before he took his hand of his cousin's mouth.

"What are you doing here?" The shapeshifter whispered, not sure if the two men really wear out of earshot.

"I could ask you the same thing!" Mirabel glared at him, but this time, she saw the girl standing behind him. "Actually, I don't want to know."

"They are trying to find her, aren't they?" Camilo questioned, ignoring the judging look on his prima's face. "I mean the woman Tío Bruno was defending this morning."

Mirabel didn't need to ask how he knew about the fight; Dolores must have told him everything. Well, probably he didn't need his sister's super-hearing to know that people were screaming before breakfast.

"Yeah, and they are NOT allowed to find her. We have to do something!" She could see her cousin thinking, but suddenly a mischievous grin appeared on his face. Mirabel knew Camilo well enough to know what it meant.

"Camilo, don't!" She warned him. "If they find out, you'll be in big trouble! We need to find another..." Her cousin only sighed before turning himself into Osvaldo, interrupting her rant.

"Thankfully, the Gomez brothers are dumber than they think. Besides, I owe Tío Bruno a lot." Mirabel noticed how Sofia's cheeks turned bright red, but she couldn't care less. Instead, she observed how Camilo stepped back on the path, screaming in his best imitation of Osvaldo for the two men.

For a few seconds, she thought they might not hear him, but then she could see the light of their lanterns coming back to him.

"Osvaldo? What are you doing here?" Javier Gomez asked, shining with his lantern into Camilo's face. "I thought you didn't want to join the search for that girl." He spat on the ground next to the teenager's feet, not bothering that others would declare such behavior as disgusting.

"Yeah, but they saw her on the east side of the Encanto." Camilo explained with his best imitation of Osvaldo's voice, trying not to sound disgusted. "Jose asked me to tell everyone that they should go there because she keeps running."

"Why are you telling us that? "Carlos questioned. "When Hector asked you to join us, you were too stubborn. You said you are loyal to the Madrigals and not helping a Moreno."

Camilo, always a quick thinker, didn't need a second to find an answer: "I am not helping Samuel, but Jose asked me for a favor."

He leaned himself close to Carlo's ear. "I still own him one for the incident." He whispered, and Carlo's eyes widened.

"Oh, the incident." He said like he actually knew what "Osvaldo" was talking about. "It must be still very embarrassing for you."

Carlos patted on the big man's arm like he pitied him. "Thank you for the tip, though. And don't worry, I won't tell anyone." He winked at Osvaldo, then he gestured his brother to follow him in the opposite direction. Camilo waited until they were out of sight before turning back to his original form.

"Ok, what kind of "incident "were you talking about?" Mirabel questioned when she and Sofia came out of the hiding, fixing her glasses.

Camilo shrugged. "I don't know, but some kinds of "incidents" always happen to Senior Ortiz. C'mon, we have to go back to the town."

Silently, the two girls followed him, trying to not walk too fast. It was already dark when they finally managed to get back to the town, but it made the lights of the moving torches and lantern only more visible.

"Half of the town is looking for her." Mirabel mumbled, suddenly feeling very dizzy again.

"I know, and they will eventually find her." Camilo blushed when Sofia gave him a quick kiss on his cheek before she ran back to her parent's house, but Mirabel had not the strength to tease him with that. Instead, she grabbed his arm when her legs couldn't support her weight anymore.

"Mirabel, your face is all white! We have to go to Julieta." Mirabel tried to move, but somehow she couldn't move her legs anymore. Then, suddenly, Camilo shapeshifted back to Osvaldo.

"Remember how we broke into Bruno's tower when we were kids? Let's do the same stunt again." Before she could protest, Camilo lifted his cousin, having much more strength to carry her as long as he was in Osvaldo's body. He somehow knew that he had to bring her back to the Casita as fast as he could.
