Mirabel didn't know how long she had been sleeping, but it must have been noon, according to the light entering her room.

"I promised your uncle that I would tie you on your bed if you try to leave it before dinner, and you know that I would do that." She turned her head around, only to see Abuela sitting in a chair close to the door.

"Lina is alright," Alma smiled, seeing the urgent question in her granddaughter's face. "She needs time to recover, but your sisters and cousins entertain her."

Mirabel sighed in relief. "What about the Moreno's?"

"Well, hearing that his mother got executed was a huge shock for Mateo." Alma frowned. "But Elena and Bruno help him to overcome it. We all do."

"And what happens to Elena?"

"We all agreed that she and Lina should stay in the Casa Madrigal. It wouldn't be good for the girl to be absent from Casita again, and Elena and her family still have a lot of work to do on their relationship. "Mirabel could see a smirk on her Abuela's face, and for a moment, she could tell that Camilo was in fact her grandson. "Besides, Bruno promised me to marry this girl as soon as possible. Call me conservative, but having a child without being married is nothing I want for my children. "

Mirabel couldn't help but grin when she thought that her uncle was getting married. Abuela didn't have to convince him too much, though. "I guess Pepa is thrilled that she can pay him back now, isn't she?"

Abuela laughed. "Oh, you guess! She is plotting with Julieta the whole time, but I don't know how much harm she can do in just three weeks."

Mirabel was taken aback. Three weeks were nothing, especially not for someone like Bruno, who could spend years behind walls waiting for the right moment.

Abuela shrugged, fully aware of what her granddaughter was thinking. "They have been together for almost ten years; they even have a child together. I think that's enough time to know if you genuinely want to be with someone."

"Besides, thanks to you, we all know what those two lovebirds feel for each other." Alma gestured her to sit down again; this part of their conversation was more serious.

"Bruno told me about you finding out about your gift. I always knew that you are compassionate, but I never thought that….I never thought that you were able to do what you did two days ago."

"Wait: TWO DAYS AGO?!" Mirabel starred at her grandmother in disbelief. She thought that maybe two hours had passed, but not two days.

Alma frowned. "You only used aspects of your gift in your past life, not even aware it existed. Then, in the last days, you found out what your powers are capable of, but you never trained it before. Having a gift of that kind must have drained your mind and body." She paused, looking down at her fingers resting in her lap.

"Every time Bruno had a bigger vision, he also passed out. He spent years training his mind to be capable of everything he sees, but he is still tired after each vision." Alma sighed, thinking about when she first found her passed-out son in his vision cave. She never wanted to see that again.

"Your gifts are somehow familiar. But like Bruno's, your power can also be more like a burden than a blessing." Abuela glanced at her granddaughter, suddenly sounding very serious. "I made a mistake when I asked Bruno to have a vision about everyone who demanded one, and by doing so, I did not only turn most of the townspeople against him but also drained him out."

"I am not making the same mistake with you, Mirabel. In fact, I am not planning to tell anyone outside our family about your gift if not necessary."

"But Abuela, I want to help this family! "Mirabel insisted. "I could end more disputes like this; I could even end them before they start!"

Alma smiled warmly at her. "I know, and it is your decision if you wish to tell anyone or not. But please be aware: There is a reason why people have to choose to be compassionate. Showing compassion every time WILL destroy you in the long run."

"Also, having a gift of such kind also means big responsibility. I saw how you manipulated Samuel and Mateo only with emotions. I know that you just did it because you had to, but would you be able to stop invading someone's feelings if you don't want to?"

Mirabel shook her head; she knew that her grandmother was right. For the first time, she felt indeed happy that she didn't "receive" her gift at age five.

"But how can I control it? How can I stop myself?"

Alma shook her head. "I don't know, but I know you will find out eventually."
