EPILOGUE

It was a full two weeks before Robotnik got home. Or at least, almost home. He was just about to turn the corner and come into view of his factory when he saw Coconuts running towards him.

"Hey, uh, boss!" he greeted in a high and exaggerated tone. "How was, um, your vacation? Good?"

He got no answer but the sober look of his master.

"Uh, I see." Coconuts trembled. This was not a good time to tell him about the incident. But he had to do it. Summoning all his courage, he stammered, "So listen, there's, um, one more thing you should, uh…"

"I don't care," Robotnik waved tiredly, his voice lacking any evil flair. "I just want to get home."

"Yeah, well, about that." Coconuts tried to stop his master from walking around the bend, but he was not to be stopped. Robotnik turned onto the next street. When he lifted his eyes from the sidewalk, he was expecting to see his factory in full glory. Instead, it lay in ruins.

That got his attention. "WHAT? What happened to my b-b-baby?"

The robotic monkey swallowed hard. "I-it was crazy, boss! I was just sitting in your off- I mean, in the break room about two weeks ago when suddenly, this huge black thing fell straight into the building, and it all collapsed! No lie! I didn't know what to do with it all; it happened so fast! Boss? Are you listening, boss?"

Robotnik was not listening. Instead, he was spread-eagled on the sidewalk, pounding his fists wildly and shouting, "Oh, what a miserable vacation! WHAT A MISERABLE VACATION!"

Just then, Scratch and Grounder walked up and bowed before Robotnik.

"Master, we have sinned," Scratch said humbly.

THE END.
