Saturday morning rolled around and Mei woke up to the smell of breakfast emanating from the kitchen. She headed to the kitchen and saw her mother finishing prepping her favorite dish...a nice hot bowl of congee.
"Morning mom and dad" smiled Mei kissing both her parents.
"Good morning dear," said Jin.
"Good morning Mei-Mei, I made your favorite a nice hot bowl of congee" smiled Ming.
"Looks delicious" replied Mei sitting at the table as her mother put the bowl in front of her.
"So, any plans for today?" asked Ming.
"Ummm...not really, might take a trip to the library" replied Mei.
"Good girl, you always have to keep that brain sharp" smiled Ming sipping coffee.
"Yep, you can never learn too much" Mei stammered a little nervously.
Mei was lying to her mother, she was going to meet Tyler at the library to help him study but she couldn't tell Ming, knowing how whacked out she was. Sure Ming learned to control her emotions but still, when it came to her daughter she wasn't messing around.
As Mei was eating she got a text on her phone...from Tyler.
Are we still down for l8r?
Ming heard Mei's cell phone beep.
"Now who could be texting you at breakfast?" she asked concerned.
"Oh...Ummm...it was Miriam! Yeah! She needs help studying for our math quiz and she could use my help" Mei said nervously.
"Oh, well it's nice that you're helping her...lord knows she needs it" replied Ming.
"Ummm...yeah" stammered Mei texting Tyler back.
You betcha! :)
Meanwhile, at Tyler's he was having breakfast at the kitchen table, smiling as he saw Mei's text message.
"Who was that sweetheart?" asked Tyler's mom.
"Oh...um...this new kid from school! Yeah, we became friends and I'm gonna show him around town" Tyler said nervously.
"Oh well, that's nice, glad to see you making moire friends" smiled Tyler's mom.
"Yeah, we're probably gonna hang around the arcade and maybe the music store," said Tyler.
Tyler, of course, didn't want to let his mother know he was hanging with Mei, sure the incident that happened on his birthday had blown over but his mother was still skeptical of Mei.
At Brendan's he was having a breakfast burrito while playing his Playstation 2, he never really ate breakfast at the table with his folks because he was either gaming or studying, as he was about to take a bite of his burrito he saw he got a text message from Abby.
ARE YOU STILL ON FOR SOME KAR-E-OKAY?!
He texted her back.
Yep!
Abby texted him.
AWESOME! MEET US AT KARAOKE-DOKIE AT 12!
Brendan's dad noticed him texting.
"Hey, son, who ya texting?" he asked.
"Oh, just some friends I made at school, gonna go sing karaoke" smiled Brendan.
"Karaoke? Never figured you the type but hey you're making friends so I'm happy" his dad smiled letting Brendan get back to business.
Brendan got back to his game and his burrito, pretty hyped up that he was going to hang out with some new friends.
Some time passed and Mei got dressed and headed out to meet Tyler at the library, she grabbed her backpack as well so she could help him study with the notes she had written down, she grabbed a couple of 4*Town CDs as well.
"Bye Mom, bye dad," said Mei leaving the house.
"Bye sweetie!" said both Ming and Jin in unison.
Mei walked to the tram stop to wait for the tram that would take her into the city where the library was a few blocks away, she decided to text Tyler to let him know.
On my way, see you soon!
Tyler responded.
Aight awesome!
Mei smiled at the text, she honestly couldn't wait to hang with Tyler but there was still that nagging feeling for Brendan as well. Despite the fact she didn't know him too well she was still attracted to him. After five minutes the tram came and Mei boarded and headed into the city, meanwhile, Tyler's dad drove him into the city and was going to drop him off near the arcade. It wasn't that long of a drive for them and it sure beats public transportation. Tyler arrived in the city first and his dad dropped him by the arcade.
"So where's this new kid? I'd like to meet him" said Tyler's dad.
"Oh...umm..he said he was running a bit late because his dad had to stop and get gas" stammered Tyler.
"Oh, well I guess I can meet him another time, maybe if you guys ever wanna have a guy's night he's more than welcome to stay over" replied Tyler's dad.
"I'll be sure to pass that along to him" replied Tyler.
Tyler gave his dad a high five and exited the car and walked into the arcade, he watched from the window to make sure his dad was out of view. When his dad was he left the arcade and proceeded to walk to the library to wait for Mei.
Tyler pulled out his phone and texted Mei.
I'm here
Mei responded.
Almost there
Tyler was excited to see her.
Soon she arrived and saw Tyler in front of the library.
"Tyler!" said Mei.
"Hey Mei" smiled Tyler.
The two hugged but when Mei hugged him she felt ears pop up.
"No, no," she said to herself and quickly calmed herself and they disappeared.
Mei and Tyler headed into the library, they looked around and saw a table where they could sit, it was pretty quiet and Mei placed her book bag on the table and pulled out some paper and some of the material they were to study for the upcoming quiz.
"Well, ready to study?" asked Mei.
"Yeah, normally I wouldn't be caught dead in a library on a Saturday" chuckled Tyler.
Mei rolled her eyes.
"Alright, let's get down to business," said Mei going over the materials with Tyler.
Mei began to go over the materials for the quiz with Tyler, she knew he wasn't a straight-A student like her but she saw some potential in him. After about an hour or so she noticed he was making a great improvement.
"So, X equals 15?" asked Tyler.
"Great job!" exclaimed Mei.
"Thanks, you're a great teacher!" exclaimed Tyler.
"Well, you're a great student" chuckled Mei.
"Yeah?" asked Tyler.
"Yeah" responded Mei.
The two locked eyes, Mei could feel her heart racing and Tyler felt his racing...at this moment Mei could panda but in her mind, she couldn't care less. The two closed their eyes and puckered their lips and...
*RING* *RING* went Mei's phone.
She quickly snapped back to reality.
"Oh...um...Woah...I better Ummm...answer this" she said breathing heavily.
It was Abby calling her.
"MEI OH MY GOD YOU'RE MISSING A GREAT KARAOKE SESH!" exclaimed Abby.
Abby held the phone away from her ear and towards Brendan and Miriam.
"AND THEY SAY THAT A HERO COULD SAVE US, I'M NOT GONNA STAND HERE AND WAIT! I'LL HOLD ON TO THE WINGS OF THE EAGLES WATCH AS WE ALL FLY AWAY!" sang Miriam and Brendan.
"Yeah...they sound great" chuckled Mei.
"Well Miri does, Brendan was right he sounds like a strangulation victim" laughed Abby.
"Well...maybe next time I'll join you all, but I gotta go," said Mei hanging up the phone.
Tyler was looking to the side, he looked almost embarrassed.
"I don't know what that was, I'm so sorry," said Tyler.
"No, I should be sorry I got distracted" replied Mei.
"Um, should we keep studying?" asked Tyler.
"Sure" smiled Mei.
Mei and Tyler continued to study and Brendan and the girls sang karaoke, a couple of hours went by and they all had to go home.
"I had a great time Mei, thanks for helping me," said Tyler.
"No problem, always here if you need help studying" smiled Mei.
Tyler desperately wanted to hang around but he had to rush to the arcade because that's where he told his dad to meet him. Mei was waiting for the tram and Brendan and the girls had gone their separate ways. As Brendan was walking home he spotted Mei waiting for the tram.
"Hey, Mei was it?" asked Brendan.
"Oh...um..hey uh...Brandon?" she asked sheepishly.
"Brendan but it's a common mistake, so you missed a great karaoke outing" he smiled.
"Oh, um...well I'm sure I can make the next one" Mei chuckled nervously.
"Well, yeah that would be cool...or um...I know we don't know each other too well but maybe we could hang out sometime? I mean like I'm hoping to make new friends and so far you're the only one I haven't hung with" said Brendan a little nervous.
"Yeah...that...I would like to" smiled Mei.
"Awesome, Ummm...ever been ice-skating?" asked Brendan.
"Can't say that I have" replied Mei.
"Well, there's this rink that I know of from my visits here before I moved here and it's where I'm gonna be playing on a team but they have ice skating on weekends, and maybe if you're not doing anything tomorrow?" Brendan asked feeling like he had a lump in his throat.
"I don't think I'd be any good at it though" replied Mei looking to the side.
"I could teach you, it's real easy" smiled Brendan.
Mei blushed a little.
"Sure, I love to learn new things" she smiled.
"Then I'll see you tomorrow? Here take down my number" said Brendan.
Brendan gave Mei his number and she gave him hers and soon the tram arrived.
"Well, here's my ride...guess I'll see you tomorrow," said Mei still blushing.
"Can't wait" smiled Brendan.
Mei boarded the tram and found a seat and pulled out her walkman and began to play her 4*Town CD.
"I can't wait," she thought to herself.
Soon she felt a tail protruding from her back, she got nervous but quickly closed her eyes and began to calm herself until it disappeared.
