*Pokes head into the fandom* Hello there. I'm aware this fandom is pretty dead. However, I recently replayed the .hack GU games and it made me reread my own story Losing you and I was like "Wow… this sucks. I mean… like the plot is just a rip off of Alkaid's PK I can do so much better." This this rewrite/reimagining was born! Normally, I'd delete the previous work, but I decided that I'm not going to. See it as a… a relic of 2014. You can also see how much my writing style (and grammar) has changed in the past 8 years! (if you so wish. Again, the story is rather bad) But regardless of that; I hope you enjoy this as much as I had! Oh, this isn't a shipping fic, however, Hasesila is implied but not stated you know?
Also. 4Koma and other sources: Yuuichi is disturbing and possibly hurts animals.
Me: I recognize that the council has made a decision, but seeing how it's a dumbass decision, I've elected to fix it. But that doesn't mean it's not there. Moreso, I like to think he was a delinquent in high school and is trying to make up for what he's done.
A lone and tired sigh left Yuuichi Morino's mouth as he quietly stretched his arms above his head. The morning sun was just starting to seep in through his window and he yawned loudly as he shuffled his way towards his coffee pot. All Yuuichi had to do was press the on button and the sound of water heating up filled his ears.
His head dipped down sleepily and he quickly snapped up to attention at that. "God, I'm tired." He mumbled and with rapid movements of his neck, he popped his neck with the hope it would help wake him up.
"Mrerh." Came the loving sound of his cat as the tiny creature jumped onto his counter for love, affection, and most importantly, food.
His cat was a newly adopted orange cat that had thick darker orange stripes on his body. His paws and chest were white and color. The little kitten was thrust upon him by his RA as they had found the litter of kittens abandoned by their mother and wandering the middle of the street.
Yuuichi would be lying if he said he wasn't almost immediately smitten with the kitten. The new kitten that he had named Mochi. Yuuichi reached over and scratched under Mochi's chin. Mochi lifted his head up and started to pur. "Hungry, little guy? Okay." He reached under his sink and grabbed some dry cat food. He used a scoop to portion out a healthy amount of food. Before he even finished pouring the food out, Mochi was already devouring his food like he was starving.
"Oh, good, the coffee is ready," He grinned and grabbed a mug from his cabinet. After applying sugar and cream to his liking to the mug he poured his coffee and took a sip. "Alright." He sighed heavily and took another sip of his drink. "Let's get this day started."
There was a reason Yuuichi Morino always got up so early in the morning on his day off with no school work needed to be done, and no therapy appointments to help with some of his…less desirable tendencies, despite not being a morning person. It was called one hell of an internet addiction, on top of a video game addiction. Or, what people call it nowadays: Being an online junkie.
Sitting at his computer, Yuuichi grabbed his nearby M2D headset, put it on his head, and picked up his controller. From there, he logged on, and Yuuichi's Morino's boring, slightly unfulfilled, life disappeared and he become someone with a purpose. He became Silabus.
"First things first. Emails." He sighed and reached over to grab his coffee. He sipped his still too hot drink. Silabus had an arrangement of emails waiting for him that morning. A couple from Gaspard mainly asked Silabus about stuff pertaining about Canard, and another one was him asking Silabus on a quest with him and Piros the third.
There were a couple other emails from some noobs thanking him for helping them out with how The world works, and even thanking him for the pleasant experience as it turns out most newbie players are actually terrified of getting PK'd during their very first log in.
Once it got around that Canard was a very credible and safe place for new players people actively sought them out looking for help as their friends told them about Canard. It was definitely a change of pace that neither he nor Gaspard was expecting. Eventually, the two of them had to come up with a system so they weren't over exhausting themselves with a lot of the tasks. Because Haseo and Atoli were often so busy it was up to the two of them to manage most, if not all, of Canard's leg work. So, it was settled between Silabus and Gaspard that Silabus managed the newbie players, and would help out in the shop if he could, and vice versa.
It was perfect really as Gaspard enjoyed being the shopkeeper and Silabus enjoyed helping new players out.
After sending quick replies back to the newbies he helped out yesterday; telling them that they could call on him whenever needed (provided he wasn't already busy).
He looked through the rest of his emails, replied to those that needed it, and even gave a small little smile when he saw that Haseo had gifted him with a greeting card that just… made both Silabus and Yuuichi blush brightly. Yuuichi was just glad he wasn't logged in to the game yet.
It was a Flowers Gift greeting card.
Yuuichi practically stumbled over his keyboard in an attempt to send a hurried reply to his Guildmaster. 'He must have meant to send that to someone else! It's such a rare greeting card. There's no way he meant to send that to me.' He thought as he quickly sent his reply back asking Haseo if he meant to send such a rare card to him.
He didn't expect Haseo to reply almost instantly.
To: Silabus
From: Haseo
Re: Appreciation.
You're always helping me out. I figured that you'd like to receive a card like this. Besides, I know you and Gaspard do a lot of work in Canard as of late. I want you to know that you mean a lot to me. Even if I don't have the time to say it.
Okay, that's a lot to take in.
Yuuichi nearly fell out of his chair as he grabbed at his chest dramatically. "My heart!" He exclaimed dramatically. "My heart!" He never felt so… appreciated before. Not even outside of The World, his real-life job sure as hell never made him feel this way. "Okay…play it cool." Sucking in a deep breath, he exhaled slowly before typing back his reply as cool and as calm as possible. Haseo didn't respond right away and that told Silabus that he was officially logged in.
"Maybe I can catch him and thank him in person too." He said out loud as he quickly exited out of his emails and whirled his way to The World's login screen.
While he logged in, Yuuichi took another sip of his coffee, which had begun to cool off by now.
Once Silabus had fully warped into The World. Yuuichi Morino officially vanished.
Silabus eagerly looked around Dol Donna hoping to catch Haseo. When he didn't see his Guildmaster, he quickly swiped through his friends list-
"-Ah. Busy." Silabus said rather sadly at the big red BUSY sign that hung by Haseo's name. A sad sigh left his mouth before he threw his arms behind his head and just gave a smile. "Oh well! Next time, I'll thank him for sure! A gift that rare should be thanked in person…" He knew he was blushing as he said this and he quickly hid his face in his hands.
Silabus swiftly regained his self-control and gave one final happy sigh. "I guess I better go to Mac Anu and scope out any potential noobs." He said outloud as he turned towards the Dol Donna warp gate. He didn't even get to touch the gate when-
"Silaaaabus!" Came Gaspard's voice. Silabus spun around just in time to receive a hug from his friend. Silabus laughed as he returned the hug in full.
"What's up?" Silabus inquired with a smile.
"I just logged on when I saw you."
"Yeah, same. I was getting ready to go to Mac Anu to see if there are any new players."
"Hm… I dunno. I read in the news that a lot of people are starting to drop out of The World…" Gaspard had said rather sadly. That made Silabus frown in response.
It's true. A lot of people are logging off with the threat of never returning with how many online players have been subjected to Doll Syndrome as of late… but that wasn't going to stop Silabus, nor Gaspard for that matter. At least, that's what Silabus thought until Gaspard spoke again: "My mom… She's been reading the reports, you know? She's scared. I hear her and my dad talking about maybe how I should take a break from The World for a while…"
Silabus blinked. "Is that what you want to do?" He asked softly.
"...No… but my mom is so worried about me falling into a coma like… so many other children from my school. I'm kind of scared and I see where she's coming from, but I don't want to stop."
Silabus hummed as he reached up and patted Gaspard's head affectionately. "I can't tell you what to do, it's up to you if you want to take a break from The World or not. It's also kind of up to your parents as well… unfortunately."
Gaspard sighed and Silabus turned from him, ready to warp away, but was once again stopped. "What about you? Would you ever quit The World if the cases get any higher?"
Silabus paused on those words. He let them prattle around his head for a few seconds. He then turned towards Gaspard and smiled. "Personally? No. I think I'm staying until the day they inevitably shut the servers down. Even if I'm the last person. I just love The World so much."
"Yeah! And I know how you feel! I'm the same way!"
"Anyways, I gotta go see if they're any new players who may need my help. Care to join me?" Silabus offered and Gaspard shook his head.
"Maybe later! I got a shop to care for!"
"Of course! And hey, if Piros is online I'll see about inviting him for that quest you wanted to do!"
"I'll look forward to it!"
Then Silabus warped away. He was ready for whatever the day would bring him.
Well, despite what Gaspard had told him, Silabus in fact had four new players. He trained two of them separately, and had happened to run into the last two at the exact same time.
Silabus suspected that they new each other in IRL. Both girls, one a harvest cleric and one a blade brandier like himself. They were both rather skittish of him and his offer. Meaning they hadn't browsed the forums or heard from the outside about Canard. They were very wary of being PK'd. "How do I know that you won't hurt us? Huh?" The harvest cleric, Shiv, had asked as she had leaned into the blade brandier, NeZe, for support. NeZe wrapped her arms around Shiv. Solidifying that they absolutely know each other in IRL.
"I would never hurt a noobie, you have my word. We at Canard take that very seriously. We're dedicated to just helping you new players learn the basics." He said in a soft non-threatening voice. Before he added ": )" via his keyboard.
"... I don't know if we should risk it." NeZe softly spoke as she held on to Shiv's hand tightly. "If you get PK'd by the wrong person you'll get Doll Syndrome! I just got this game, I don't want to risk falling into a coma!"
"I can't do this! I can't! I can't I'm sorry, NeZe!" Shiv then abruptly logged off.
"Uh- wait-" Silabus tried to say as he reached out, but it was too late.
"Shiv!-" And like that NeZe logged off immediately after her friend. Leaving Silabus alone in the dome.
"Oh… that could have gone better." He whispered weakly as he lowered his hand. He then sighed.
'It's as Gaspard said. People are scared. They want to enjoy the game, but the fear of inviting the wrong player and possibly falling comatose scares them. I don't think it's PK's doing it, however…' Silabus thought as he wrapped an arm around his waist in thought.
"Well… if it hasn't been a while." Came a voice from behind Silabus causing him to turn around to look at a player. One that looked familiar but he couldn't quite place. His character model looked off. With black and red creeping all over his neck and torso like some sort of infection. He also had the black and red up and down both of his legs. It almost reminded Silabus of molten lava. With the red in crevice-like veins along his body. He also had this thing dangling off of his shoulder the same black and red that looked like it was connected to the stuff along his torso.
Silabus tilted his head as he looked away from the black and red and focused more on the character's face. His hair was green, not as green as Silabus's outfit, maybe a shade or two darker. It was shortened into a pointy bob. One that kind of reminded Silabus of Haseo's own hair. He had one bang off the side of his face and…he just looked so familiar.
"I'm sorry…" Silabus gave a quick bow of apology before straightening up. "I meet lots of people and your name isn't coming to me." Silabus then looked at the man.
"Ah, you must not remember me because of my new form." The man gave him a smile that just…made Silabus uneasy. "I am Sakaki."
"Oh!" Silabus couldn't help his surprise exclaim before bowing shortly again. "Forgive me. I honestly didn't recognize you."
"An honest mistake." Sakaki told him and Silabus smiled at him.
"I heard about Moon Tree's server. I'm glad it all got resolved."
"Hm, yes… yes, it has… hm," Sakaki gave a soft, almost creepy hum as he seemed to be reading something in front of him. 'He most have gotten a shortmail.' Silabus thought. While Sakaki was reading, Silabus went through his own friend's list. Both Gaspard and Piros were free, meaning Gaspard must have sold out of items earlier than expected.
"Well, I mustn't keep you busy, Lord Sakaki-" Silabus started to say that he was getting ready to go on a quest with Gaspard.
"-Oh, you're not keeping me. Mr. Silabus."
"Heh, Mister? You make me sound old." Silabus laughed as he rubbed at the back of his head.
"I was actually hoping… that you'd invite me to your party."
"I-ah-uh… what?" Silabus sputtered like a car as his brain short-circuited. He had no other response other than 'what?' because… what?!
What would someone as high in status as Sakaki have with Silabus? 'Unless… does Moontree think Canard is stepping in their territory?' He had thought for a real moment. It was true that Moontree and Canard have similar ideologies, but Canard didn't really protect players from PK's more rather just helped teach newcomers without the risk of them getting PK'd.
"Apologies if it seems sudden!" Sakaki quickly laughed. "It's just, I've been meaning to talk to you… about Haseo."
"Haseo?...er…" Silabus rubbed at the back of his head now. He was relieved that Sakaki wasn't upset about Canard's growing status possibly stepping on Moon Tree's toes, but now… It wasn't exactly a secret that Sakaki and Haseo loathed one another and Silabus really didn't want to be dragged into the middle of it. It was bad enough when Haseo and Atoli bickered about Sakaki during the demon palace tournament. Even worse when Haseo had tried to drag Silabus into it. It…wasn't a fun time for anyone.
"It's just that…there's something I think you should know about Haseo-"
"I'm sorry, I don't want to be dragged into the middle of this…thing you and Haseo have going on."
"Wait. I have proof that Haseo isn't the person you think he is." Sakaki suddenly said in a serious voice. That was when Sakaki wrapped an arm around Silabus's shoulder. Stopping him from making an escape. "I think it's something both you and Gaspard should know. Won't you do me a favor this one time and just hear me out?"
'He has me trapped and I don't want to be rude.'
"I-" Silabus bit his tongue back from kindly asking Sakaki to let him go. Silabus sighed as he pulled up his friends lists and his heart leaped when he saw that Haseo was back online. Still, he got down to Gaspard's name and he paused.
'Don't do it.' The little voice in the back of his head suddenly whispered in his ears. 'Gaspard has such a high opinion of Haseo… don't dash them because of this inconsiderate-... because of him.' Silabus had to correct himself before he said something rather nasty in his head. Who was this guy to try and hurt Gaspard?! "I'm sorry." Silabus exited out of his friends list. "Gaspard is offline. So, it'll just be the two of us."
'I'll just hear this guy out for the time being. Maybe I can leave by claiming there was an emergency.' Silabus had thought, feeling a tad bad that he was thinking this, but Sakaki was making him uncomfortable.
"Oh well, it'll just be you and I then." Sakaki gave a shrug while he gave Silabus a small smile and then finally he let Silabus go. "I'll invite you-"
"I need to give you my member address-"
"-No need. I already have it. You've given it to me before." Sakaki had said as he let go of Silabus and invited him into his party.
"I- uh- I don't remember that." Silabus admitted as a pop up appeared before his eyes.
Sakaki invites you to his party. Accept? Deny?
"You give your member address out so frequently that it's only natural you'd forget."
"Ah…" Silabus gave a soft huff as he crossed his arms against his stomach. He tried to wrack his brain, but it just wasn't coming up for him. 'He does make a point. I do give my member address out a lot. No point in trying to fight it.' Silabus hit the accept button and gave Sakaki a broad smile. "There you go! So, we're are we heading together?"
"Hm…well-" Sakaki leaned in and Silabus jerked back out of reflex. He knew that Sakaki was probably just looking at his character's status. Sakaki's eyes narrowed as he read. "You're a high level. Higher than I would have expected for someone who helps newbie players to be."
"Y-Yeah… Haseo likes to keep us at a high level to try and dissuade PK's from going after us after all"
"Hm. Field or Dungeon?"
"Huh?"
"Which would you prefer?"
"...Field…"
"I guess we should go to Theta Blessing Knight Daydream that should be a decent level and a nice enough night field."
"Okay…"
Silabus didn't know why he was feeling so, so uneasy around Sakaki. A part of him wanted to just tell Sakaki that he didn't want to do this and to turn around. But it was way too late and before they knew it, the two of them warped away.
It was the sound of rain that was the very first thing that Silabus had heard before he was loaded in.
It was as Sakaki had said. It was a night field, but it was also raining, not that Silabus minded. He liked all the fields. From the dark and gloomy to the sunny and lively. Silabus loaded up the map to see how big it could be. It was a decent sized map with five alters and a boss.
"Okay… so, you wanted to talk about Haseo- hey!" Silabus cried out in shock as Sakaki started to run off. "Wait!" Silabus immediately took off after Sakaki. He took off in a run, surprised just how fast the-
'Wait a minute-' Silabus stopped chasing after Sakaki for a moment as a realization hit him. 'Sakaki is an Edge Punisher, not an Adept Rogue. Edge Punishers don't get a job-extenstion, and they certainly don't get to change their models like he had. Something…. Something really isn't adding up here.'
Silabus felt his mouth twist a little as his heart thudded away. He swallowed hard and licked his lips. He wasn't liking this, not at all, he was glad he didn't accidentally wrap Gaspard into this. "Silabus?" Sakaki had stopped running only fifty feet away from the blade brandier. "Are you coming? I'll explain after the first battle."
"Y-Yeah." Silabus breathed out. "Coming."
Silabus took off running behind Sakaki, not wanting the other to see how nervous he had become. 'Call Haseo, Kuhn, someone!' That very lucid part of his mind was screaming at him. Silabus brought up a quick PM up after clicking on Haseo's name and got ready to click on it putting the area word name in-
"Heh!" Silabus froze as a gasp left his mouth. Sakaki's edge sword pressed up against the base of his neck. The two of them stood there, neither of them speaking.
"You're messaging him? How rude of you." Sakaki growled and Silabus swallowed hard.
"I'm not-"
Sakaki waved his arm and Silabus's PM message box vanished. Silabus's breathing turned heavy as he watched this. "You're a hacked character- how dare you try and slander Haseo to me when you're the one cheating!" Silabus all but screamed at Sakaki. "Also! What kind of Moon Tree member would PK somebody, let alone a council member-"
Sakaki smirked and removed his blade from against Silabus's neck. Silabus sucked in a breath he didn't even realize he was holding. "I'm not hacked. Let's just say that CC corp has given me… a bit more power than I had before. I can see everything you do, I can see when you bring up things like private messages, but more importantly-" Sakaki walked up to Silabus. "I can see just how…Naive you are when it comes to Haseo." With one of his hands he grabbed Silabus's face by the chin. The grip was tight and Silabus…No- Yuuichi could feel it. The feeling of Sakaki's fingers digging almost painfully against his jaw.
"Haaa…" Silabus's breath turned shaky as his legs began to shake a little as well. "Stop… Please…" He finally managed to whisper out as he reached out and grabbed Sakaki's wrist in his hand. The feeling of Sakaki's hand against his chin, it freaked him out.
"You know he doesn't actually care for you. Right?" Sakaki inquired. He then moved his hand; he didn't remove it from Silabus's face, more rather he moved it so it was almost cradling against Silabus's cheek. "He's using you. He never cared for you, nor did he care for Gaspard, and don't get me started on poor Atoli."
"You're wrong-" Silabus jerked his face away from Sakaki's hand and jumped back. "He cares for me. I know he does, and cares for Gaspard and he most certainly cares for Atoli and I'm done with you. I knew I never should have come here to start with." Silabus felt himself snarl. That more undesirable part of him threatening to come out. Yep, this was going to be a conversation for his therapist for sure. "Goodbye!" He yelled at Sakaki as he turned his back to Sakaki ready to rush to the nearest warp portal and leave for the safety of Mac Anu-
"Is that what you think? You think he cares for you? Did he not drop you like a bad habit the moment he no longer needed you? I mean, he used you for the demon palace tournament and then he got better people, Alkaid and then Endrance, and you… oh wait… he never used you for the Heavens tournament. Nope. Not once in fact."
"He said he had his reasons!" Silabus spun around in a rage as he spat that out.
"Of course he did. Those reasons in particular being that you're too weak for his liking."
"I- That's not true!" Silabus clenched his fists in rage.
"Let me ask. What exactly does Haseo do for Canard other than reap the rewards of yours and Gaspard hard work?"
"He… he's raising Canard up in the ranks by fighting in the arena! We're so much more popular than we could dream to be without him!"
"Right. Of course. How silly of me. The arena battles he's worked so hard for. Oh, should I say he cheated in-"
"Bullshit!-" Silabus immediately put his hand over his mouth in shock. He had never meant to curse, he usually try not to curse as he knows a lot of small children play this game.
"Oh? Pushed a button did I? I never would have guessed that you'd say such crass language."
"Yeah well, don't get use to it. And I'm done here. All you're doing is just trying to get me to turn on my friend and it's just getting… getting… pathetic!"
"Pa…Pathetic?"
"Yes! Pathetic and you know what? for a Moon Tree council member you're pathetic. You're stooping to childish levels of trying to get me and Gaspard to turn on ourguildmaster and good friend. We're done here. Have a nice day." Silabus spun around and took off in a jog. 'Haseo was right about him. I can't believe it. I should message Haseo about this.'
Silabus brought his PM's up and tapped on Haseo's name.
"I'll show you Pathetic!" Silabus saw a flash out of the corner of his eye and only just managed to jump back, avoiding Sakaki's broadsword by only a hair.
"Ah!" Silabus gasped as he hit the ground. He rolled on the ground for a moment before he stopped.
"I'm pathetic? I'm pathetic?!" Sakaki slapped his chest in pure indignation. His face was absolutely twisted in raw rage, he looked completely horrific and it made Silabus quickly try and scramble back away from Sakaki. It was like the void was following the edge punisher. Pitch black dots blinked all around Sakaki before swirling around Sakaki's body.
'I'm glad I excluded Gaspard from this…' Was the thought Silabus had as he watched the dots flutter all around them. Silabus gulped in fear as he shakely got up to his feet while watching Sakaki very carefully. His eyes flickered quickly towards the nearest warp point. It was only a few hundred feet away, but could he make it in time was his thought.
"I…I don't want to fight you." Silabus could only whisper rather as he reached for his sword. "I really don't."
"It won't be much of a fight…" Sakaki growled in response. "I figured you would be reasonable, but who am I kidding? You're friends with Haseo. I should have known when I read the emails you two kept writing to each other. It's almost sickening."
"You… you went through my emails… how is that even possible and why!?"
"Heh, it's like I told you. CC. corp gave me more power than before. As for why… it's simple. I wanted to be sure that I make Haseo squirm and outside of Atoli, well, you and that beast you accompany yourself with were the next best choices to make him suffer in anyway I could."
"It was never your intention to make me turn on him, was it?"
"I wouldn't say that. I'm just surprised that you're so stubborn. So, because of that. I guess I have no choice but to go straight to plan B."
"You don't have to do this." He had the hilt of the sword in his hand at the ready. Silabus swallowed hard as ice cold fear filled him with dread. He started to shake and hoped it wasn't obvious to Sakaki. Tears of fear perked in the corners of his eyes and he prayed that it wasn't noticeable.
"Oh, that's were you're wrong, Silabus. Dead wrong-"
Silabus charged, striking Sakaki first with his sword before Sakaki could get to him. Sakaki went flying back right into a barrier that had just now formed. But it wouldn't stay up for long. Silabus, acting fast and with shaky hands, jumped into his inventory and immediately snatched up his smoke bomb.
The smoke bomb dispersed the barrier surronding the two of them in a heartbeat and Silabus ran. He ran like his life depended on it, because let's face it. It did and deep down, be it subconsciously or not, Silabus knew this.
While he ran for the warp gate, just in case he didn't make it in time, he did the only thing he could think of. He finally messaged Haseo. Silabus didn't dare write anything as that would waste time. All he did was send Haseo the area word and pray Haseo would understand what it meant. It was just as he pressed send did he make it to the warp gate-
"Ah!" His hair was harshly yanked. It was by the base of the ponytail that was grabbed as he was pulled back into Sakaki. The physical pain Yuuichi actually felt from this interaction. He, along with Silabus reached back. "Let- go!" Silabus threw his head back so harshly that he felt Sakaki's face collide with the back of his head. Then, Silabus did something he never thought he'd do in a million years. He swung. Catching the underside of Sakaki's chin with his fist.
Sakaki stumbled back; but didn't fall. He looked completely stunned. Silabus rushed to the warp portal and touched it.
No menu popped up.
No menu popped up!
Panic. Pure panic as Silabus started to smack the warp pad in desperation. "No…No!"
"That was a good punch," Sakaki mumbled as he rubbed at his chin. "I'm impressed. I really didn't expect a fight from you. You look and act like you're nothing but sunshine and rainbows. I guess it just proves you can't always trust what you see. Regardless; bravo, Silabus. You put up a valiant fight, but-" Sakaki summoned his weapon and rushed at Silabus.
Silabus summoned his own weapon and quickly put it up in the blocking position.
But that wasn't enough.
All Silabus, and subsequently Yuuichi, felt was pain. Pure pain as he felt Sakaki's sword bash into his side and send him flying into the barrier. As unfortunate as it was. The fight was over almost as soon as it began. A scream flew out of Yuuichi's mouth as he was thrown back. More screams only followed as the pain was horrific. It felt like he was actually being stabbed throughout his entire body.
Eventually, the pain subsided just enough for him to stop screaming. Silabus could only lay there on the ground as pain radiated through his body. His breathing was nothing but short scared gasps as he stared up at the rainy sky. The pain reverberated throughout his body as he could only curl up on his side in the fetal position. He felt his legs jerk and twitch from the pain as he continued to whimper and gasp.
"M-Mochi…" It wasn't Silabus. It was Yuuichi. Unable to remove his headset, he realized he had actually fallen out of his chair and was on the ground now. "Mo-" He gasped out as the tears started to fall freely. He felt… fuzzy all over his body. Not the good kind of fuzzy either, it was like when you get circulation back in a limb that had fallen asleep. That kind of fuzzy. "Mochi…kitty-" Yuuichi blindly reached out and Silabus mirrored this movement.
"Ack!" He cried out at the jarring pain stabbing him through his middle yet again and yanked his hand back. "I-... don't want to be alone." He cried to no one. Sakaki was long gone by now having reopened the warp point so he could leave, no doubt.
Yuuichi looked up at the cursed warp point looming above him. Mocking him. 'Get up. You faced worse than this.' A voice had scolded him, but he couldn't move. His body, it was so- so fuzzy feeling. It was like all of his limbs were falling asleep.
"Meerp." Mochi had chirped at him and his beloved cat rubbed himself against Yuuichi's face.
Yuuichi sobbed out. "I have…I have to take care of you. Don-Don't I?"
'Haseo will come and…everything will be okay. It all be okay and I can get up and feed Mochi.' Tears poured down from Yuuichi's eyes as he used a finger to brush against Mochi's head. 'He cares. I'll show Sakaki. Haseo cares.'
There was a sound. It sounded distant. Too far. It sounded like… knocking. Was someone calling him?
Another sound soon followed, this one drowning out the knocking he may or may not be hearing. The unmistakable sound of someone warping. "Sil- Oh my god!"
Next thing Silabus knew, he was in Haseo's arms. "Nononono…" Haseo whispered frantically as he clung to Silabus's form.
"You came… I'm so happy." Silabus whispered and Yuuichi reached up to touch Haseo's face despite the fuzzy feeling throughout his body, Silabus could actually feel Haseo's face against the palm of his hand. "I knew you cared…"
"Not you. Please… you'll be okay. It'll be okay." Haseo whimpered as he grabbed on tightly to Silabus's sleeve in desperation.
"I know I will be… because you're here… I feel… fuzzy. Fuzzy and tired." Silabus admited weakly.
"Silabus. Just…just try and hang on, please!"
Silabus looked at Haseo and saw…tears…
Oh.
That sealed his fate didn't it? He was going to be the next victim to Doll Syndrome and Haseo knew this.
Silabus smiled. "I don't…mind." He told Haseo and with his thumb he wiped the tears away from Haseo's eye. "So, don't…worry about…me…" Breathing was becoming difficult as sounds were starting to fade more and more. He didn't hear the knocking in the background anymore.
Silabus's reassurance made Haseo grab his hand and press it tightly against his cheek in response. "Don't-..." A sob escaped Haseo's mouth. "Don't say that! Canard- Gaspard-... I need you. You can't leave! Don't leave."
"Sm-smile. You're the guild leader after all." Silabus then gently took his hand back. He then used both of his index fingers to press into the edges of his mouth to form a shaky smile for Haseo to copy.
"Silabus-" Haseo whimpered again and he pulled Silabus up with his arms so he was hugging him tight. "Not you. Anybody but you. Please. I need you." He begged.
'I'm fading.' Yuuichi realized. It wasn't just his character fading with lights dancing around Silabus's ever fading body. 'I don't have long.' Yuuichi's mind was starting to fade as well.
With both of his hands now, Silabus reached up once more. He cupped both sides of Haseo's face. He used both of his thumbs to wipe away Haseo's tears as his friend hiccuped out a sob.
"Gaspard…he needs… you-"
"No, he needs you!"
"Take…care…of…" breathing was becoming harder. The edges of his vision was starting to go black. "...Him. For me."
Haseo opened his mouth, but all that came out was a strangled sob as Haseo pressed his face into Silabus's chest. "Don't go… don't go. Don't go."
"Thank…you… for…" He was slipping into darkness faster and faster still as his eyes threatened to close. 'Please. Let me finish this sentence. Please.'
"The…" His eyes slipped closed. "Gre-"
and just like that…Silabus was gone.
And Yuuichi Morino became a lost one.
