Twitter word prompt: Staircase
TW: MCD, you will cry. Avoid this story if you're not into being hurt.
Standing at the top of the staircase, Narcissa nervously slid her hands across the banister as she took in the large crowd below her. People from all over the world had arrived to show their love and support. Lucius surely would be proud of her for planning such an extravagant event. He had always been her biggest cheerleader when it came to anything she accomplished./span
Lucius, My Love, I miss you.
As she scanned the attendees standing below her, she locked eyes with several people she had become close with over the last few years and nodded in appreciation.
The first set of eyes she locked with was Harry's. Staring down into his beautiful green orbs, she recalled all of the times they'd been invited for dinner at Potter Manor over the last few years. Narcissa swelled with pride at the memories of watching Harry and Draco go from enemies to friends, to best of friends, and eventually merging into her current family.
Narcissa thought about all of the happy moments in their life that she had been fortunate enough to witness. The Potters' wedding, the announcement of Ginny's pregnancy, and the birth of baby Jamie.
She couldn't help but smile as she thought about the last time she saw all of her family together at little Jamie's fifth birthday just last month. The family's laughter and happiness swelled her heart every time she thought about it.
Narcissa was thankful to have so many grandchildren to look after. She had always wanted a large family. So when the Potter's adopted her into their family as their mother figure, she felt a piece of her life become whole again.
Lucius, My Love, you would be so proud to see the children grow up.
Luna stood in the front of the crowd closest to the stage, and they briefly locked eyes. Narcissa nodded in recognition to the amazing witch that had helped execute the party.
She thought about how she had the honor to watch the free-spirited woman begin to settle down with Blaise. Tears swelled in her eyes while she remembered the moment her beautiful granddaughter Camile was born. The happiness she felt holding the newest addition to her growing family. Although Blaise had always been her son's close friend, Narcissa did not expect Luna to accept her into their little family months after the war ended. They adopted her as their mother figure the same day as the Potters— adding one more piece to her life that made her feel whole.
Scorpius and Camile held hands standing next to Luna while she and Blaise greeted the guests— directing them in various directions. The two blonde children were inseparable. Born only hours apart, they instantly became best friends. Scorp watched over her like a big brother, and Camile loved him fiercely. Narcissa was sure that those two would marry one day.
Scorpius was another beautiful surprise that she didn't see coming. The day that Draco told his mother he would be a father was one of the happiest days of her life. It was the first real happy memory she had since Draco was a little boy. The pride and joy on Draco's face lit up the room around them as he held onto Hermione's hand. A smile played at her lips at her son and daughter while they stood in front of her. She could see that Scorpius had been conceived out of pure love.
Lucius, My Love, Scorp looks just like his father, and in so many ways, he reminds me of you. You would love to have met him. I know you would have been proud of our dragon.
Scanning the crowd once more, she locked eyes with Pansy. Narcissa watched as the beautiful woman held onto her husband. Theo kissed her cheek and squeezed her hand that rubbed her rounding belly. Pansy nodded at Narcissa with a smile on her face. The woman was glowing with her first pregnancy, and Narcissa was beyond ready to welcome the newborns into the family. Both Pansy and Theo took over their family's duties once the war was over. Narcissa swelled with pride thinking about how much the two of them have overcome in the few short years since the end of the war.
Lucius, My Love, you should see how all of Draco's friends have grown. They are becoming the people we had always hoped they'd grow up to be. Theo and Pansy will be having their heirs any day now. I wish you could see all of the love surrounding our family name after being denied that feeling for so long. You deserve to feel this happiness with me, too.
Taking in a deep breath to calm herself, Narcissa took her first step down the stairs. All eyes turned to watch her descend with each click of her heel on the marble. She stood tall— commanding attention like a queen— as she made her way through the gathering to finally stand on the stage. Out of the hundreds of events that she has hosted, none of them made her this nervous. With one final gulp to gather her strength, she began to talk.
Lucius, my heart, take care of my son and daughter now...
"I want to thank you all for coming to say your final goodbyes to Hermione and Draco. I know that if they were here right now, they would tell us all to stop crying and be happy. So let's celebrate their short lives and remember all of the happy memories we shared with them."
Hermione, Draco, and Lucius, My Loves, I miss you all. Please watch over all of us. I will make sure Scorpius is raised knowing how much you all love him. I will make sure he grows up to make you all proud, and I will love him unconditionally alongside the rest of our family.
The two of us will be okay, I promise.
