It was three weeks before Thanksgiving Day. I was at lunch with my friends.
"We can get together to have a Thanksgiving Feast on Thanksgiving Day," said Stacey.
"That sounds fun," said Kayla.
She's one of my best friends. She and her twin, Kaylee, my other best friend, are from New York City.
"Are you and Kaylee doing anything for Thanksgiving? Perhaps you both can join us if you want," said Claudia.
"Our grandparents will be here for Thanksgiving," said Kaylee.
"But we'll accept the invitation to join you," added Kayla.
"Perfect," I said.
I'm Mary Anne Spier. I recently turned fourteen years old and started ninth grade at Stoneybrook High School.
"We can tell Mallory and Jessi. They might want to join, too," said my stepsister and third best friend, Dawn.
"Okay," said Stacey.
They're both seventh graders at Stoneybrook Middle School.
"We can also let Logan and Shannon join us," said my oldest best friend since childhood, Kristy.
"Yeah, they would enjoy that," said Claudia.
"We'll tell them after school and Mallory & Jessi later on at the meeting. I'll invite Marci, Kathi, and Patti. They would like to join us, too," I said.
"Good idea," agreed Kristy.
The others loved that idea. We kept chatting about the feast until it was time to head to our next classes.
After school, I saw Logan and told him about the feast and he accepted the invitation.
At home, Dawn saw me and said, "Did you see Logan after school?"
"Yes and he accepted the invitation, so it's all set," I replied. "Kristy talked to Shannon and was delighted to join the Thanksgiving Feast."
"Perfect," said Dawn.
"I know. It's good to ask anyone ahead of time in case they have plans," I said.
"That's true," agreed my sister.
That night, Dawn and I talked to Dad and Sharon about our plans and they both liked that idea.
"That's a great idea to celebrate the holiday," said Sharon.
"The Willis girls said they'll join us even while their grandparents are here," said Dawn.
"How about we invite their families, too, if they're free?" asked Dad.
"Oh, yeah, I never thought of that," I said.
"Me, either, we'll have to bring this up to the girls and Logan tomorrow," said Dawn.
"Unless we'd let them celebrate with their families first before coming here," said Sharon.
"Let's see what they say before making plans that way," I said.
"I don't know if I can go," said Carlos. "My basketball team might be going out of town for away game. I'll find out tomorrow."
"If you can't, don't worry about it," I said.
Carlos is my adopted brother. He attends the same high school- we only have high school in Stoneybrook.
The next day, at school, Kristy said, "I wonder if we can have the Thanksgiving Feast at my house since it's bigger than anyone else's."
"I like that idea," I said.
"Me, too," said Kristy.
"Oh, yeah, Dad says we can invite your families, too," I said. "He brought that up last night."
"That would be a fine idea," said Kaylee.
"Sharon thought about you guys celebrate with them first, but I told her we can wait and see what you guys say before making those plans," I said.
"I don't think it would be a problem," said Kayla.
"We can bring that up to our families and let you know later at the meeting," said Kaylee.
"Okay," I said.
"Sounds good," said Dawn.
"And, my family is going to be in New York to see the parade this year to make up for it," said Mallory.
I knew what she was saying, She had mono before that happened last year, so they had to cancel because of it.
"In fact, they want to you guys involved this year," said Mallory.
"Oh, cool, I'm in," said Kristy.
"Logan and Shannon can come along," said Mallory.
"Okay," said Logan.
"I'll talk to Shannon about it," said Kristy.
Later, I brought that up to Dad.
"It's going to be Kristy's. And, since we all got invited to see the parade, should we have the feast the day before?" I asked.
'That can work," said Dad.
"That's not a bad idea," said Dawn.
"I bet the other girls are thinking about the same thing," I said.
At the meeting, they all said their families will join them including the parade,
"I talked to Dad about the parade and he liked the idea," I said. "Also, I wonder if we should do the feast the day before. Dad gave us an okay to do that
"Well, we plan on going to New York right after school since it's half day," said Mallory.
"Unless we do it the day before we leave for that," said Dawn.
"The Plaza have that every year on Thanksgiving, so we can have it there then," said Stacey.
"That sounds like a better Plan B," I said.
"Oh, yeah, I forgot we did that," said Kayla.
"Me, too," said Kaylee.
"That plan will be switched. Our grandparents said we can meet them in New York to make it easier," siad Kayla.
"Makes sense," I said. "I can go with your family so I can help out with D.J."
He's a handful.
"Good idea," said Kayla.
After the meeting, Dawn and I mentioned it to Dad and he also liked that idea having the feast at the plaza.
"Because Mal's family is leaving for New York when all the kids get out of school for half day," said Dawn.
"I offered to go with The Willis in they need me for D.J.," I said.
"Smart," said Dad.
"We're all staying at the plaza anyway," I said.
Later, I texted Marci to share this with Kathi and Patti. She replied saying they will join us for the feast. She liked the plan to do it after the parade. She will let them know. Kayla texted me saying her mom thanked me that I offered to go along with them to help with D.J. Her parents know I can handle him. Jenny behaves better than him and she's four. His twin, Mario, is no problem, either.
