A.N: Hello there, pokefans. I recently wrote a story about Ash battling Tobias -insert-self-advertising-here- , but while writing it, I wondered. How would pokemon battle in the wild? Where there are no trainers to command them and they are on their own! So, without further ado, let's explore how it goes. Please read through.(P.S: I still didn't know how to put a page break yet, sorry for that.)

'Food, delicious smell' were thoughts going through his mind as he tracked down the scent of this delicious food, probably a lucky fruit. It had been quite the time since he ate one, seeing as they were not ripe yet.

But as he neared the scent he was tracking, his nostrils flared as the ripe scent he had grown to love was beckoning him to be faster. And so he did.

And after he dashed through a bush, he could see a tree. It was lush green and was not surrounded by trees and stood like a sore thumb in the middle of a clearing. His senses confirmed the scent is from a tree. He could also see the familiar dark water color fruits on the tree. But this time, he inhaled deeply and among the sea of the ripe scent, he smelt another scent. The scent of a creature.

This scent was anything unlike a human scent, thus must be of his fellow pokemon. He took a few more sniffs and found the traces to be relatively… sparse. He concluded to check the tree out.

He slowly but surely, took his steps towards the tree, keeping his senses on anything that can come from before. But it was odd to see no other creatures nearby, or even traces of their scents.

He narrowed his eyes as he eyed the tree. Its leaves were waving to the air. He started to circle the tree. As he reached the shadow side of the tree, a gentle and cool ,but definitely not chilly, breeze struck him. This was not some illusion of any pokemon.

"hOwww" He howled, getting himself ready to strike and win.

The tree was unwavering, its fruits hanging tantalizingly ahead and he saw that this wasn't an illusion.

He immediately pounced ahead, running towards the tree gaining momentum enough to jump so that he could reach the fruits. And when he thought he was nearby he jumped high.

But he couldn't quite reach the fruit, and fell down to earth. He stood back up, dusting his mane. He just reached halfway. The fruit is quite higher than he thought.

He exhaled and deeply inhaled. This time he will reach. Not just the fruit, but the speed too. Determined, he set his gaze as he ran again.

This time he put some extra pump in his run, taking a circular path to gain more speed. He ran faster and faster, just when he thought he couldn't get any faster, he could feel a very different type of energy, originating from his thoughts of being able to go faster. And faster he was going, from the speed of air he felt.

But as he thought he gained enough speed, he tilted his body to the right, leaning more on his right legs and stretching his left legs to make the turn towards the tree. But his legs didn't listen, high on the energy that filled him and kept on leaping. Due to his position, he crashed down back on the ground, skidding a good distance till he halted.

"Ow, hurting." He cried. He stood back up, determined to make this work. And he could feel himself being faster now. He will reach it. Suddenly his nostrils detected a presence.

He turned to see an avian creature hurling towards him, the sun behind it blinding him but he moved out instantly. The bird just halted the attack eyeing him.

Even though he was growling on the outside, he was amazed on the inside. That was the fastest he moved till now. Man, whatever attack he was using, it always left this state of speed in him. He felt out of breath and faster than ever at the same time.

"Battle Die" the avian shouted at him.

And he was not going to back down, he too let out an intimidating roar, feeling his attack strength increased.

The avian suddenly darkened his face, leering at him. He stood his ground, even though he could feel himself get weaker at resistance.

"Catch me now." He said as he started running towards the avian, which immediately flapped his wings and went into the sky. But he was undeterred as increased his speed further.

He kept on running in a straight path till he reached a rock and jumped on it. He felt the blow in his legs as he bounced high into the sky towards the unsuspected avian.

The avian instead of flying away, flapped its wings and came charging at him. There were streaks of white energy surrounding it, starting from the beak.

But he wasn't any less as he let the fire fill his mouth. When they were near he opened his opens, the fire assuming the shape of fangs as he tried to bite down on the avian.

The avian on other hand, had a smug smile on his face and sped up suddenly, hitting the airborne dog before he could bite the bird.

The attack shook him as his fires were lost and he crashed down onto the ground. The avian was laughing at him. "Stupid dog, king of sky not downed in sky."

Although he didn't get the words, meanings were understood.

He glared as he ran at the bird again, this time not powering up. Thus he was surprised to see how fast he could go. He never was this fast. But he focused on the avian and he charged his fire once again.

This time he jumped and let his fang shaped attack go on. While he didn't reach enough height, the fang did and the avian couldn't doge the move due to his speed.

The avian was covered in flames but suddenly flapped his wings as all his fire was swirling into a center near his beak. The center was revolving around the beak as two more orbs started revolving alongside it, all the flames now concentrated in the orb. The orbs of fire, hard sky color and dried color were shining with unreleased energy.

"Amaze by me." The avain shouted, which made no sense but the smug look told him everything. This was an abomination. The avian is trying to show off this abomination.

The avian fired all three orbs in order, dried one followed by hard sky and his fire. He didn't know what the dried one is. But he is pretty sure the sky color is water and next one is his flames. He smiled as he let the fire build once more.

Due to reasons unknown, the orbs' aim was very bad. This helped him dodging the dried one which on contact with Earth, sparkled all out. He was happy that he didn't risk it as the sparks seemed painful and charged his fire bite on the sky one. But he miscalculated.

The sky one isn't water at all, it is too cold. The fire clashing with the orb caused a huge explosion of steam and water in his mouth which he coughed out, the mist covering the field.

So, he was late to dodge his own flames. As the fire orb struck him, he braced himself. But instead he felt his flame respond and take it in. His fire was burning stronger. He could feel the heat he was giving off. He smiled, the avian is in big trouble.

He collected his strongest fire he could in his mouth, all while running faster to achieve more speed. And when he felt the energy fill him, he stopped. And jumped to the right. This time he didn't trip but was rather so fast that he could be mistaken to teleport.

And when he came out of the mist, he was near the tree and saw the bird using his wings to flap out the mist. He bounced on the tree, this time feeling not much pain and launched at the avain.

The avian saw him but due to his speed couldn't dodge, thus was struck by the fire fang. Both the avian and the dog crashed down onto the ground, avian underneath the dog as flames engulfed the avian, indicating his burn.

He didn't let go of the wing even as the bird pecked him with his beak. He simply charged another fire in his mouth and let it attack the bird. The bird was once again engulfed in flames and fell flat on the ground.

He let go of the bird and watched as the flames once again roasted the bird, but this time instead of retreating in, they were extinguished.

He smirked, reveling in the feel of victory. He looked at the tree, the scent of fruit unbearably tantalizing now. He charged ahead and jumped, biting down the branch he got, splitting into shards.

The branch fell to earth, and he saw that it had at least 10 fruits on it. He smirked, eating one, feeling his strength regaining. The avian beside him hustled.

He looked at it, then the branch. But he had only one question, what was that move? He got an idea.

"Here." He barked and left a fruit in front of the bird. The avian glared at him first but instantly ate the berry, feeling his strength regianing.

"Much obliged." The avian said. Although he couldn't understand the words, the meaning was sure.

"That move? What is it?" He asked, giving him another fruit.

"Father's move. Triple power. Not yet perfect." The avian said as it bowed.

"Then let's try it out. Awesome move." the dog barked.

"Battle Partners?" The avian smiled as he put his wing forward.

"Ohh yeah, you are going down." The dog barked as he got off to a distance.

"Eat first you moron." The avian said as it threw 4 fruits at him.

And so, the growlithe and spearow sparred for the next few days, becoming not so much as friends. As spearow got the tri-attack perfected, they battled one last time where growlithe finally learnt the flamethrower. And he did win before they parted.

But whenever they met again, they would spare to see who would be the better until one day fearow found a girl for himself and growlithe a trainer.
