Randy stared at the clock again. It was getting late and Sloane still hadn't come home from work to start dinner for his party tonight. The guests would arrive in an hour and nothing was done. He tried calling her cellphone again but she still didn't pick up.
"I can't believe you're doing this to me, you bitch!" He snarled out in the air.
He tried calling her work instead. A secretary picked up and introduced herself. He didn't even catch her name. He was too angry to listen.
"I need to talk to Sloane," he said.
"She's in a meeting," she said.
"I don't care. I need to talk to her now," he said.
"Sir, I can't help you. She's in a meeting with a client," she said.
"Put me through to her office!" He yelled.
"She's not in her office," she said.
"Put me through!" He screamed.
She did as he requested and put him through. He listened to it ring 12 times before he finally gave up and hung up. He tried her cellphone again and to his surprise she finally picked up.
"Hi, Randy," she said.
"Where the fuck have you been?" He yelled.
"At work. I told you I had an important client today," he said.
"Get your ass home right this fucking second!" He demanded. "You better know how to cook fast."
She laughed and it spooked him. Normally she would do as he said.
"You always tell me that I know where the door is if I'm not satisfied," she said.
"What are you talking about?" He asked nervously.
"You know," she said. "This morning I chose to walk out of the door well knowing I would never return. Judging by your anger I know you haven't noticed my stuff being gone yet. It makes sense. Everything in the house looks the same. You own all that crap. I just took my clothes and personal belongings."
"Sloane?" His voice was shaking. "You can't do this to me. I have people coming over."
"I really don't give a fuck, Randy. I'm done. Cook your own stupid dinner," she said.
She hung up. He tried calling back but she had already blocked his number.
"Fuck!" He screamed.
Sloane drove straight to Becky and Seth's house. She was surprised to find that Becky's friend Sheamus was inside as well.
"Sloane!" Becky said.
Becky ran over to Sloane and gave her a hug.
"Really?" Sloane chuckled lowly.
"He's helped putting your bed and wardrobe together. I promised him you could order pizza together. Order a family sized pizza. I doubt we'll stay long at Randy's place," Becky said.
"You're actually going?" Sloane asked.
"Of course. He'll never know you're here. We have no idea you broke up with him," Becky said. "Seth, we need to go."
"Coming," Seth said.
"Becky," Sloane said. "I'm buying this house. I don't need to think about it. Once you're moving and you're ready to sell, I'm buying it."
"It's yours, love," Becky said.
Becky and Seth left the house. Becky had taken the day off to enter Randy's house earlier and move all of Sloane's things out of it. Something Randy would never know. Her and Seth would play their part and act confused when they showed up at Randy's place.
"Hi," Sheamus smiled nervously.
"What did she tell you?" Sloane asked.
"You know Becky. She never keeps anything secret when it comes to trying to play matchmaker," he said.
"I'm so embarrassed," she said.
"Don't be. I liked hearing you're up for a double date," he said. "Unless you were joking. You were joking, weren't you? Now I'm embarrassed. I'm so sorry."
"No joking," she smiled. "Let's order a family sized pizza and wait for them to come back. We can say this is a double date. I need a quiet night."
"I'm on board with that idea," he said.
She walked over to him and sat down next to him.
"I need some time," she said.
"Of course," he said.
"I'd like to get to know you better but I'm not gonna rush anything. Will you be okay with just hanging out instead of going out to boring restaurants?" She asked.
"That sounds good to me," he said. "I have five dogs. How about walking them with me someday?"
"I love dogs," she smiled widely. "How about Sunday afternoon? We can take a walk in the park and buy an ice cream."
"I love ice cream," he said.
They smiled at each other. So far it seemed easy enough.
"Let's order pizza," he said.
"There better be pineapple on it or we're gonna have a problem," she joked.
"I love pineapple," he grinned. "I'm gonna tell them to put extra pineapple on it."
"I think I just fell in love with you," she said.
They looked at each other and started laughing. It was a start. There was no way of telling if this would be something in the end. They would figure that out as they got to know each other better.
