Author's Note: So, it's been a minute since I've worked on this story. I'm struggling a bit with where I want it to go but I'm slowly getting there. So, enjoy this filler chapter while I sort the rest out LOL
Disclaimer: No, they're still not mine. None of them unfortunately.
Before Grissom made it back to Sara's room, Nick came bursting out of the curtain looking frantic. He breathed a slight sigh of relief upon seeing the older man approaching.
"Griss, you really need to get in here. Sara's freaking out a bit." Nick said, holding back the curtain as his boss's steps quickened.
When Grissom walked into the room, Sara looked like she was on the verge of a panic attack. She was gripping the bed rail; her breathing was erratic, and her eyes were filled with unshed tears. The moment she saw him, however, she immediately began to calm down.
"Gil." She whispered, reaching for him.
Grissom didn't hesitate. He immediately made his way to her side, taking her into his arms and climbing into the bed with her. Sara buried her face in his neck, her body trembling as she began to sob. She clung to him so tight, it was like she was trying to climb inside him. Grissom rested his cheek against the top of her head, clenching his eyes shut to fight back his own tears. He wrapped his arms tighter around her, smoothing his hand up and down her back as her body trembled.
"Shh. It's okay, honey. I'm here. I've got you." Grissom hugged her to him as she continued to cry.
Grissom looked up, taking in the three other men in the room. Nick had joined Greg and Warrick in the corner. Three sets of alert eyes were trained on the brunette. Grissom could feel the anxious energy coming from the men. They were all in protective mode for the woman they all considered their sister.
"What happened?" Grissom spoke softly as he continued to hold his wife.
"She started getting antsy when you didn't come back after a few minutes." Greg offered. "We tried to keep her calm, but she kept saying she needed you."
Grissom kissed the top of Sara's head, murmuring comforting words into her dark hair. Her hold on him didn't let up, even though her sobs were beginning to subside.
"I didn't know where you were." Sara whispered hoarsely into his neck, her tears falling onto Grissom's skin.
"I'm sorry, baby. I shouldn't have left you." Grissom kissed her temple as he hugged her against him.
"I'm terrified this is all a dream and he still has me." Sara let out another sob. "I'm terrified I'm going to wake up and never see you again."
"It's not a dream, Sara. You're here. You're safe and I've got you." Grissom pulled back, carefully taking her injured face into his big hands as he looked straight into her eyes.
"Please don't leave me alone." Sara whispered.
"Honey, I promise you. I swear to you, that I will never leave you alone ever again." Grissom spoke, his voice thick with emotion.
The look on Sara's face made Grissom's heart shatter. He blamed himself for that look. Grissom was beginning to wish he had killed Vincent Lurie when he had the chance. Or at the very least, beaten him unconscious. In all the time that he had known Sara, Grissom had never seen her look so vulnerable or afraid. He had watched her go toe to toe with some of the worst criminals in Vegas and she had never once flinched. Sara was always strong. Stronger than Grissom had ever hoped to be. He swore to himself that he would do whatever he had to do to make her feel safe again, no matter how long it took.
A nurse suddenly pulled back the curtain of Sara's room as she walked in, causing the brunette to flinch in her husband's arms. Over Grissom's shoulder, Sara caught the unmistakable sight of the woman in the hallway. She jerked back, her eyes going from Grissom to the hallway and back.
"Sara, honey, what's wrong?" Grissom took in the look on his wife's face.
"What is she doing here?" Sara whispered, her voice full of panic.
Grissom turned around, seeing Heather still standing in the hallway beside Brass. With her eyes were locked on Sara.
"Brass brought her from the station." Grissom quickly replied, smoothing her dark hair down. "It seems she knows Lurie."
"What does she want?" Sara continued whispering.
"She says she wants to help make sure Lurie doesn't get away with this." Grissom whispered back, looking into her brown eyes.
Before Sara could say anything else, the nurse disconnected her IV tubing and began to speak.
"Okay, Mrs. Grissom. We have a room for you upstairs so I'm going to take you there now." The nurse said as she laid some papers down on Sara's bed.
While the nurse was getting Sara ready to be taken to her new room, Grissom caught Brass's eye in the hallway and sent him a knowing look. Brass nodded, taking Heather's arm and leading her away. Nick, Greg and Warrick all filed out of the room into the hallway to join Catherine.
"Alright, Mr. Grissom. Your wife will be going to room 215. You can meet us there after she's settled in." The nurse unlocked the hospital bed as she began to push Sara out of the emergency room.
"Gil." Sara's eyes went wide with panic as she looked at her husband.
"I'm not leaving her side." Grissom looked at the nurse, his voice leaving no room for argument. "I go where she goes."
"Very well, sir." The nurse replied with a tight smile. "If you'll follow me this way to the elevator."
As the nurse pushed Sara down the hallway with Grissom holding her hand the whole way, he noticed that Brass and Heather were nowhere to be seen. Catherine was standing with the boys, and she gave Sara a soft smile as the bed rolled past.
"What the hell was Heather Kessler doin' here?" Nick drawled as he looked to Catherine for answers.
"Looks like our friendly neighborhood dominatrix is a friend of Lurie's." Catherine answered the Texan.
"Of course she is." Warrick huffed in annoyance.
"All I know is she better not be getting any ideas about Grissom." Greg finally spoke up, his face hard.
"Oh please, Greg." Catherine scoffed. "You couldn't get Grissom away from Sara's side even before all of this happened. Now, I doubt even the jaws of life could pry that man away from his wife."
"Yeah, well I don't trust her." Nick crossed his arms over his chest. "Seems a little fishy to me that she just shows up outta no where after all this time. She's after somethin'."
"I agree." Catherine tossed her hair over her shoulder. "We'll look into it, but let's keep it between us for now. Grissom and Sara don't need to be bothered with this if it turns out to be nothing."
The group mumbled their agreement as they started down the hallway and made their way to the hospital elevator to check on their friends.
