When Nate first brought up the idea, Zari side-eyed the fuck out of her husband. Taking three babies on a picnic by themselves seemed like a recipe for disaster right out of the gate, especially since they were already outnumbered. But she eventually began to see his side of it, that it was going to be a fun experience for the five of them, and agreed to go along with it. "But we're calling in reinforcements if this goes sideways like I'm sure it will," she told him.

He laughed. "Agreed. But you're going to jinx us since you already assume this is going to go wrong, baby."

She rolled her eyes. "I can't believe you have rose-colored glasses on about six month old triplets, Nate. You never cease to amaze me. I'm just being realistic," she teased.

"You want some donuts on this picnic?" he asked her.

"That also seems like a recipe for disaster. Let's stick with picnic food and don't invite stickiness or messiness." Zari kissed him and then went to check on the babies when one of them started fussing. They had plenty of help taking care of the babies in the totem but she was thankful she had given birth on the Waverider.

The next afternoon, they ventured out of the totem, into the Waverider after switching places with Zari 2.0, and then made their way out into the field the ship was stationed over. Pushing a triple stroller over grass wasn't the easiest thing in the world but the two of them managed it, much to the amusement of the babies. The oldest triplet, Nova, began fussing and held her arms out at Zari. "Somebody wants Mama," Nate murmured.

"I gotcha," Zari cooed as she unbuckled her and picked Nova up. "Hi, sweetheart. Are you ready to enjoy our picnic?"

The youngest triplet, Andromeda, glanced at Nate before going back to chewing on her hand. "We'll just leave you in there for right now, Andi," Nate informed the uninterested baby. He unbuckled the middle triplet, Cassiopeia, from the stroller and picked her up, however.

Nova sent a glare towards her sister, and Zari snorted. "Nova's pissed at Cassie again, for some reason." That was nothing new - the girls mostly got along but not all the time but that was expected with three babies.

"Should we eat?" Nate asked.

"Sure." Still holding Nova, Zari managed to open the picnic basket with one hand and pulled out a sandwich, which the baby unsurprisingly tried to steal. "Nice try but not happening. Sorry, kid."

Cassie, who clearly also wanted the sandwich, started crying so loud that she set off both her sisters. "Maybe you were right!" Nate yelled over the screaming as he and Zari immediately started trying to soothe their girls.

"Of course I was!" she shouted back at him, sighing in relief when both Andi and Nova quieted down. It took Nate a few more minutes to calm down Cassie but she too stopped crying.

"So I think we call in reinforcements. We tried, Nate."

"We tried so hard," he agreed. They hadn't lasted very long, which he was a bit upset about, but like she said, they had tried to do this by themselves.

Zari handed Nova over to Nate and called Behrad, who bolted their way in under five minutes. "Uncle Behrad is here!" he cheered excitedly.

"Save us, Uncle Behrad. You're our only hope," Nate teased.

"You make fun but you two were hopelessly overwhelmed. Hand me a baby," he demanded. Nate handed him Cassie, and they went back to trying to enjoy their picnic.

The three of them started devouring their food as best as they could with three babies trying to steal every bite but they managed and generally causing chaos with each passing minute. "Please stop trying to grab my hair," Zari pleaded with an uncompromising Andi. The baby only giggled and started babbling.

"We could go for a walk around the meadow?" Nate hesitantly suggested.

"You want to try to steer a stroller across the meadow again? Good luck with that," Zari deadpanned, earning a snort from her brother.

"The latter's really not that bad of an idea. At least there's one of us for each baby," Behrad pointed out.

"I can't believe I let myself be talked into this," Zari muttered to herself as Cassie pushed over an empty Tupperware container.

"We got this," Nate assured her.

"Yeah, we got this," Behrad echoed. They both shrunk back when Zari glared at them.

However, before they could clean up and start taking their absolutely messy walk, the sky began to darken. "I think it's going to rain. Perfect end to this disaster of a picnic."

Nate looked up and squinted. "Probably won't rain for a while. We might be safe."

"And now we've been jinxed. Nice going, Nate," taunted Behrad. He gasped when Nate punched his shoulder. "Rude."

"Boys, quit fighting. You're a bad influence on the triplets." They all cringed and jumped when a crack of thunder sounded across the sky.

"Yeah, we better hurry." After they buckled the triplets back into the stroller, the three of them got to work on cleaning up, trying to keep things organized while rushing at the same time.

"You think we'll make it before the storm starts?" a skeptical Behrad asked.

"We won't if you don't hurry." Nate sighed and picked up the picnic basket after they managed to fit everything in but then handed it over to Zari after she told the guys to push the stroller back to the Waverider.

"You two get the hardest job. Good luck." She smirked at them before running across the field so she could make it to the ship in time.

Fortunately for Nate, Behrad, and the triplets, they managed to make it too - the sky opened up and started pouring rain just as they boarded the Waverider and before they managed to close the door.

"That wasn't that bad." Nate cringed at the look on Zari's face as soon as the words came out of his mouth.

"It could have gone worse but it was so bad. We'll wait to do this again when the girls are slightly older and more well-behaved." As bad as it had been, Zari did look forward to attempting a picnic again in a few years.

"I hear that," Behrad agreed. He kissed each of his nieces on the forehead and then went to rejoin the others.

Nate and Zari had braved a picnic for the sake of their daughters and although it had gone off the rails almost immediately, they still had fun. They couldn't wait to make more memories with Nova, Andi, and Cassie.
