Disclamer: I don't own Harry Potter or any of the characters, they belong to J.K. Rowling. This fic is based on the marvelous fic The Darkness Within' by the great Kurinoone, Harry's background story and Damien Potter belong to her.

Author Note: I love Kurinoone story, she's created a new world inside an already amazing world. But I always wondered what would be like if Harry didn't take his family's displease so lightly and if he had someone who understood who he was truly and love him for it.

Daphne Greengrass was in a foul mood! Today was not a good day for her, not only because it was her birthday, a date she didn't particularly enjoy, but also because, in her opinion, she was having the worst day anyone in humankind could have.

Daphne was studying to be a med-witch, with a lot of effort on her side, she had the opportunity to intern at 's Hospital. Having such a huge opportunity was incredible, considering her young age and lack of experience, after all, 's Hospital usually didn't hire interns and preferred healers with experience. But Daphne was proud to excel in everything she put her mind to it, so she studied hard, applied, and got the internship with merit.

But, going back to the worst day, yesterday Daphne took her free night and had a late night of studying. She wanted to keep her perfect record, she wanted to be the best, she had goals that require dedication and a lot of research. Unfortunately for her, the late night resulted in oversleeping and being late for her work this morning. Daphne didn't even have time to get some breakfast, not even her precious coffee, which made her grumpier than usual, and if that wasn't enough, she ended up being rude to her boss, who complained about her lateness.

None of that would truly matter at the end of the day if she also didn't have another fight with her mother, that kept bothering Daphne to announce to the world, or in this case to her old friends, she was back in England. Her mother's insistence was truly pissing her off.

And on top of that, today was also her birthday. A day that she despised and the true reason for her bad mood. Of course, a birthday is usually a day that should be celebrated with family and friends. A day Daphne should be surrounded with loved ones, doing what pleased her more, a day filled with joy, love, and happiness. But now, it was just a reminder of everything she lost. It was a reminder of how life wasn't fair to her. These past few years were hard and she felt afraid a new year would only bring her more sorrow.

At a young age, only thirteen years old, she lost her dear father and understood for the first time the impacts of the war, what it felt to be unprotected, and what it meant to choose the wrong side in the war.

Her father, Richard Greengrass was a powerful, rich wizard, a pure-blood that believed the world, the magical world, was better if everyone knew their place. He believed the pure-blood wizards were better than the muggle-borns, who were abominations and a threat to the future of the wizard community. His beliefs got him killed and put Daphne and her family in a precarious situation.

At fourteen, she found out how mean people could be. Returning to school after her father was killed in combat by Aurors, after her father's identity as a Death Eater was revealed to the world, was hard.

Daphne and her little sister, Astoria Greengrass, were outcasted by everyone at her school. The Slytherins Daphne knew, and was friends with, left her alone. It wasn't proper to be seen with her, it could jeopardize their position, it could bring unwanted attention to their families. Astoria suffered the same destiny.

The other's houses would either give her mad looks or would insult her, trying to attack her, bully her. The school teachers weren't any better, they either closed their eyes or would blame her for retaliating. It got unbearable so she and her sister had to leave school and continue their studies at home.

At fifteen, her sweet and loving little sister was diagnosed with a blood curse, a disease that couldn't be cured, or that was what everyone kept saying. With that curse Daphne found her motivation to keep going, she found what she wanted to do with her life, and focus all her energy on studying, trying to find a solution for her sister's condition.

Maybe it wasn't possible to save her sister, maybe she would become a med-witch for nothing but Daphne would do her best. Daphne decided she would study to be a healer, and she would study harder than anyone else. She would search for every curse recorded, research how it was cured and if it wasn't, she would research every trial, every experience made. Study what worked and what didn't. If there wasn't a cure right now, then she would have to create it.

At sixteen, she fell in love for the first time and had her first heartbreak. He was her best friend, one of her best friends, and he had never left her side. In the good and the bad, in the light and the dark, in wealthiness and poorness. Harry was Daphne's strength, her guidance, her power. He taught her not to be afraid, he told her everything would be alright, he supported her and he told her they would always be together. Of course, that was another lie.

That same year was proven to be a terrible year for her. Her mother was trying her best to improve their lives, to gain once again their position in society, to get their money back from the ministry but all their assets were still frozen, everyone closed their doors on Greengrass's face. Her sister was getting weak by the day and if that was bad enough Voldemort was starting to notice her mother's absence at the Death Eaters meetings, he expected her to fill the position left by Ricard Greengrass.

Daphne was tired, all she wanted was to leave, to go away from this city, this country that took so much from her. She wanted to run away with her boyfriend, to disappear for some time, to leave this war for the grown-ups. Daphne wanted to focus on her studies, focus on trying to save her sister, and be happy with her boyfriend. Daphne wanted to leave behind her everything that brought her pain. So she proposed to Harry this, running away with her, of living in another country and not getting involved in the war. But he refused!

Harry loved his father too much to leave him, he shared Voldmort's beliefs too, Harry's heart was filled with hurt, and had a thirst for vengeance. He was already involved in the war and there was no turning back for him.

Daphne understood that, on some level, she even respected his point of view, but she already lost so much, she didn't want to lose him too. Daphne thought he loved her more, but it seemed both needed different paths. Daphne made her choice and Harry made his choice, he chose his father.

The plan was made, preparations were required, Daphne had to wait to leave England. The future was important, it wouldn't be prudent to leave without a plan and without her life organized, after all, Daphne didn't want to jeopardize her future and she needed money to leave the country.

A full year of pain Daphne had to endure. A year where a lot has changed, a year where she had to be alone, without Harry or Draco. A year where she had to suffer knowing the person she loved was being chased by everyone, a year where she suffered the consequences of being involved with Harry Potter in the past.

Harry ended up killing his father himself, something that Daphne was sure he regretted more than anything in his life. She tried to move on but quickly found that she couldn't because even though they were not together, even though he chose to leave her, she missed him terribly. No one could forget Harry Potter, he was simply unforgettable.

With seventeen just made, she left everything behind. Daphne applied to Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, to enroll in her last year, she told her family she needed a fresh start, she needed to get away from this place. Got the money needed from her godmother, picked her things, and left for France.

But now, Daphne was eighteen years old, back in England, and back with all the pain, sadness, and grief. Although her family got back all their money and investments, her father's decisions were not forgotten. People still enjoyed reminding her or her family that Richard Greengrass was a terrible person and that he deserved to be killed.

Her sister was still sick and Daphne was still alone. She no longer believed in a happy ending, a new year of life was nothing to celebrate in her opinion. Her birthday was the day she would have to put on a fake smile, pretend she was happy, a day where people she despite would congratulate her when she knew very well all they wanted was for her to choke on a slice of her cake. How could she be happy on this day after so much loss?

Daphne just wanted peace and to be left alone, to move on with her life, to never see Harry Potter ever again but when has Daphne ever got what she wished?
