The sun rolled across the mid-noon sky, moving through the clouds and breathing its energies upon the world. Down on the ground below, in Nevada desert near the local power plant far from the testing site of the first atomic bomb, the glowing blue humanoid known as Doctor Manhattan sat cross-legged as he meditated and sought his inner peace.

While he was no longer a normal human, Doctor Manhattan still had a sense of humanity, despite being unable to fully register normally human concepts and ideas. Once he had been Doctor Johnathon Osterman (and still was), now he was just Doctor Manhattan and was seen as a deity by many people. Some called him the superman, Superman, the Kryptonite superhero of legend and mere fiction. Manhattan was different, he was not Superman.

Years ago, he worked for the US government as an agent, now he was his own person. Doctor Manhattan could do whatever he wished, whenever he wished, with no one to command him around or bother him about many bothersome accusations.

His mind often flashed back to many points in time. In 1945, he was trying to create a watch only for his father to throw the cogs away while the atomic bomb fell upon Japan. A decade later, John met the first love of his life, then the accident changed him. In the late 70s, he met... Laurie and they dated, made love and laughed together so many times.

Now, he meditated, thought over his life and what he would be doing later... after a particular upcoming event happened. Doctor Manhattan opened his eyes and rose to his feet, clad in only his trademark black speedo underwear. He heard electrical popping and turned, the generator was sparking and electricity was going haywire. Doctor Manhattan stepped forward, observing the bright light that was forming nearby.

More electrical buzzing, an even brighter light. Then, twenty seconds later, the being appeared. Blue-skinned and resonating with energies just like Doctor Manhattan and wearing black, a type of black body suit. His eyes were black with blue pupils, the creature observed the world around him and looked at Doctor Manhattan, hands crackling with energy while his eyes blazed with power.

"You are... electric." Doctor Manhattan said, "An electrical phenomenon like no other."

"I am Electro." Replied Electro, "Haven't you heard the stories...?"

"Perhaps, you look as if you stepped from the pages of a comic book."

"Electro is real as day." Electro snarled, "Nothing compared to you, you look like me but you are nothing like me, I will not let the world toss me aside in favor of a guy like you. Electro is the ultimate power; you are nothing next to me and I will make sure of that."

Doctor Manhattan nodded, "We will be fighting in twenty-two seconds from now, I can see myself beating you a hundred and sixty-eight seconds later, there is yet another future where you are beaten in three hundred and forty-seven seconds. The outcome of this fight is uncertain, but we will be fighting as you are challenging me."

The electrical blue entity known as Electro growled furiously and charged towards Doctor Manhattan with a yowl of fury, Electro collided with Manhattan and they tumbled to the ground. Electro cast a lightning bolt at the powerful superhuman scientist, who floated aside and raised his hand in an attempt to vaporize Electro only for Electro to dodge.

Up above, the sky turned grey and thunder clouds rolled over, lightning flashed in the sky and the two blue entities faced each other. Doctor Manhattan foresaw Electro's next move and teleported into the shadows right as Electro charged up a super energy beam attack and fired it, Manhattan reappeared behind Electro and threw his arms around his neck in a chokehold that would affect any normal human.

Electro teleported away and Manhattan turned around before Electro reappeared and threw a punch at him. Manhattan grabbed his hand and twisted it, causing Electro to yowl. The man once known as Max Dillon punched Doctor Manhattan in the jaw, hardly affecting the powerful individual as Manhattan brushed it off like it was nothing.

Four minutes ago in the past, Doctor Manhattan was meditating. Five minutes in the present, he was battling Electro and would be fighting him further, two minutes in the future. Both enemies were very evenly matched in terms of power and strength, Doctor Manhattan took to the air and Electro chased him, bursting with powerful energy. The two fighters flew high into the sky, surrounded by lightning and thunder clouds with no sun in sight.

Doctor Manhattan faced Electro with determination, eyes blazing calmly, while Electro faced him with hatred. Manhattan outstretched his hand and Electro did the same, energy bolts shot forth from their palms and connected in a burst of light for a second before Doctor Manhattan flew towards Electro and kicked him in the groin, slightly phasing him as the electric villain winced with the smallest hint of pain.

Electro rotated his arm, having healed from Manhattan's arm twist from earlier. He threw another punch at the scientist, but Manhattan grabbed it and kneed Electro. While Doctor Manhattan was powerful and could teleport and vaporize anybody, he knew hand to hand combat and was a capable fighter. Perhaps he was like Superman, just as the news reporters said he was when he first came onto the scene all those years ago.

"You can't possibly beat me..." Electro taunted, "I've got more strength than you!"

"No, you don't..." Doctor Manhattan replied, "You will never prevail, even if you gained the upper hand in 115 to 150 seconds as I see you falling in 40 seconds from now."

Electro charged towards Doctor Manhattan again, charging with more energy than before and ready to trash him like mad. Manhattan floated out of the way and grabbed him quickly, then he punched him in the face and struck Electro so hard, Electro fell. Manhattan went to town, striking him and hitting the electric villain with every chance he had. Then, in a matter of twenty to eighty seconds, Electro was overpowered by Manhattan.

"As I said..." Manhattan remarked calmly, "You can't prevail."

Right as Electro was about to regain some strength, Doctor Manhattan raised his hand and Electro vanished in a bright light with nothing left of him. Manhattan sensed the energy of Electro fade from the world and all was calm, the thunder and lightning stopped and the sky returned to normal. Doctor Manhattan had prevailed over nearly impossible odds.

'Forty seconds from now, I am heading to New York to pay Laurie and Dan a visit.' Manhattan thought as he descended to the ground. 'One fifty-three seconds in the past, I am fighting the one known as Electro, who will never come back. This day, this has been quite something that will be hard to process, even though the knowledge that I emerged victorious over an impossible enemy will be... hardly relevant.'

Doctor Johnathon "Manhattan" Osterman gathered his thoughts further, and then, with nothing much to do here, he teleported away to New York to visit some old friends and left the Nevada desert behind while the electric generator sparked briefly and a translucent blue figure briefly emerged before fading away into thin air silently...

The End
