Diana watched Liz walk out of the dining room, an unexplained hope rising in her heart.

She didn't know why, but, suddenly, her appetite was coming back.

After the deflation of coming back from her room without finding that picture she could have sworn she saw—after, once again, having her hopes dashed about finding a clue to her past—something was revitalizing her.

Maybe it was the chance to share a dinner with the stranger Liz had just told her and Brian about—the chance to try to lift this man's spirits. Maybe it was the opportunity to focus on someone other than herself—to try to help someone who was so clearly hurting with something that hit close to home for her.

Yes, Brian had clearly made this dinner for just the two of them—and, yes, it was obvious that meant something to him.

But that didn't mean she could just sit here, knowing someone else was hurting as badly as she was, and do nothing about it.

"Diana?"

Diana's eyes darted to Brian's. "I'm sorry—I was just thinking about that poor man and what he's going through—reliving his fiancée's death over and over again."

"That's because you're a beautiful person." Brian covered her hand with his own. "And because you've got a big, beautiful heart."

Maybe. How would she even know? Besides the flashes she had here and there, she knew nothing about her past.

But there was also something tugging at her—some inexplicable voice.

A voice that was telling her that she had some connection with this man.

How could that even be possible?

"Diana?" Brian tried again.

Diana looked at him. "I don't know why, but I feel such a connection to that man." Pushing her chair back, she rose up from her seat. "I'm going to go help Liz convince him to join us for dinner."

Brian's brows shot up. "That's really nice of you, but maybe you should let Liz handle it. After all, she's at least talked to the guy, and you don't even know him. What if he doesn't want a complete stranger pressuring him to talk about such a painful subject?"

Diana's heart sank.

Maybe Brian was right. Maybe she should just stay out of it.

But, still, somewhere inside of her, she couldn't shut off that voice.
