Hey everyone!

Recently I've been reading some SPY x Family, and I figured the scene here would work out well if I switched up the characters to Loid and Yor. At the end, I'll tell you guys what this scene is based on.

Bit of an AU, just putting Westalis and Ostania in real-life Cold War times, which doesn't really take change that much of the setting.

Anyway, enough babbling around.

Enjoy!

The Cold War was coming to a peak.

It was no secret that tensions were rising between the west bloc and the east bloc. After a particularly nasty international incident, both sides began cracking down on suspected traitors in each of their nations. This is made even worse for Westalis and Ostania, two bordering countries in Europe. As the name suggests, the former was aligned to the west and the last was aligned to the east.

Of course, these were things that Yor knew, having been informed by the Garden's superiors.

'But why…' The thought ran in her mind as she walked home that night, 'Why did it have to come to this?'

Aligning with the spy crackdown, Ostania's shadow government - Garden's superiors - had managed to obtain an intel leak from Westalis' spy agency. With it, they finally managed to track down Westalis' top spy.

Twilight.

Civilian Name Loid Forger.

Her fake husband, a Westalis spy.

The Garden had been estatic when they found out. Of course, they wanted to kill Loid quickly, even more so to prove that no one should cross them.

In that meeting, where everything was laid out, Yor had only nodded meekly. She didn't say a word at that time. Everyone was too ecstatic, too hyped up to remember that Loid was her fake husband.

Quietly, she slipped out of the meeting when everyone was distracted. And that's where she was now. Walking along lonely night street of Berlint, mind still reeling from the revelation.

'No… Loid couldn't be a spy… right?' What about all those smiles, all those reassurances he gave her when she felt down? Raising Anya with all the love he had, making sure both of them were well fed and respected…

Could a traitor really be capable of all of that?!

She then noticed a car coming up behind her. In a moment, the car pulled up beside her and the window opened.

The driver, Loid Forger, greeted his fake wife. "H-hey, Yor." He yawned, "Sorry, work was a real handful. You had a late night too?"

"Mmm…" Yor looked around. Looks like there weren't any Garden assassins prowling around.

Yet.

'Loid…' Yor thought as she gazed at her husband. Tired, running on fumes, and yet he still looked at her with concern, wondering why she was walking alone on a cold night.

It was then that Yor realised, It didn't matter if what he did back then was a ruse or not, if the times they shared were fake or not.

They agreed to a fake marriage, then they signed their papers, then they took care of Anya.

She loved him, she really did.

'I have to do what must be done.'

"Loid… could you… um… switch seats?"

"Hm?" Loid raised an eyebrow. "What for, Yor?"

"W-well, it's just that you seem so tired… your work must be driving you crazy." Your spy work rang in her mind. "Why don't I drive, and you take a rest?"

"W-well… I guess if you say so…" Loid relented. He was just so tired. Sneaking around as a spy was getting so much harder these days. As such, with resistance Twilight would've deemed way to small in a normal day, he did as his fake wife told him.

It felt good to let down his mask once in a while, even if every part of his training screamed against it.

Yor got in the driver's seat, and Loid the passenger seat next to it. After both of them got comfortable, Yor began driving. Loid could barely keep his eyes open.

"Sleep, Loid." Yor said. "You're too tired. I'll bring us home soon."

"Mmm…" Not suspecting a thing, Loid fell asleep. He was just so tired. At least his fake family can provide him some comfort, a sense of normalcy in these trying times, even if they were just a cover for Operation Strix.

He loved them, he really did.

Besides, his fake wife was a kind soul. She wouldn't harm him at all.

Loid could feel the car come to a stop. He opened his eyes as his fake wife shook him up. They were in front of a… forest?

"Where are we, Yor?" Loid asked his fake wife.

"I don't know…" Yor answered. "I just… kind of kept on driving."

Loid hummed. The two of them stepped out of the car, Yor bringing out a thermos and two plastic cups. As Loid stood with his back towards the car's front, Yor approached her fake husband and gave him one of the cups.

"Hm?" Loid tilted his head.

"It's a nice night outside, and I thought it'd be nice that we can enjoy it." Yor said. "I stopped by a shop to get these, to help calm you down. Would you like some tea?"

Loid smiled and grabbed the cup. "I'd like that, Yor." He grabbed the cup from her hands and Yor poured it for him. As Loid took a sip, Yor stepped back, placing herself facing Loid's back.

"Make sure to savour it, Loid…" Yor said.

Shing!

Loid could hear the sound of a knife being withdrawn. He didn't flinch as he felt its cold tip bite his neck.

Yor steadied her hand, adopting a cold stare. "It's the last one I'll ever give you."

"….What's the meaning of this, Yor?" Loid asked. "Isn't this going too far for a picnic prank?"

"*sniff* L-Loid…"

"Come on, Yor." Loid persuaded again, "Put that thing awa-."

"SHUT YOUR MOUTH!" Yor screamed. He could hear her sniffling more, her voice trembling with each word leaving her mouth. "It's too late now. This is the only way!"

Loid stayed silent. Even if he didn't turn around, he could imagine the pained, tortured emotion his fake wife had on her face.

"How'd it come to this, Loid...? When did things get so… so horrible?!"

Loid silently took a deep breath. "…Are these the SSS' orders, Yor?" He asked.

"They've got nothing to do with… with this." The knife's edge on his neck shook ever so slightly. "Loid… do you know what happens to people that cross the Garden?!"

Loid sucked in a breath. 'Ah, so she's… one of them…'

"They're experts at killing… and if they don't want you dead…! They'll make you suffer for as long as POSSIBLE!" Yor screamed. "Sometimes… the lengths I'll have to go to find a traitor, I'll have to make them suffer so much pain!

Loid stayed silent.

"I can't let them do that to you…" Her voice shook, tones soft and begging. "Loid…"

Loid stayed silent, though he knew his heart, Twilight's heart, has already shattered to a million pieces.

"I'M YOUR WIFE! I'M NOT WATCHING YOU DIE LIKE THAT!" The knife shook even more. "That's what it means to cross the Garden, Loid…" The knife shook more and more. "Once they're after you, wherever you go, they'll chase you down no matter what! THERE'S NO LIFE FOR SPIES AND ASSASSINS! TWILIGHT SHOULD KNOW THAT!"

Loid sighed. 'So she knows about that too…'

"At this point, I'm through as an assassin too… the Garden will never take me back once they've known that I can- that I've fallen for you." The knife pressed slightly deeper to Loid's skin. "But at least… at least I can spare the man I love their torture."

Loid lowered his head.

"This all I've ever been good for-! I can't cook. I can't be a good mother. Anya will hate me for this. This… This is all I could have ever done-!"

Loid put his cup down. He steeled his resolve and slowly turned to face Yor. He kept his gaze steady, no matter what. 'If this is what I have to do... then so be it.'

Yor flinched and took a step back. She wavered even more.

"I'm sorry, Yor." Loid said, tone sincere from the depths of his heart. "It's my fault you're being dragged into this."

"Tch… Nghh…" Yor looked down, getting more and more unstable by the second.

"Yor… I've got one request."

Yor sucked in a breath.

"After you kill me… Use me as a proof to Garden." Loid said with certainty in his tone. "Prove to them that they shouldn't mess with you, that you defeated the legendary Twilight. That way… you can keep you and Anya safe."

"W-what…?" Yor's voice trailed off.

"Promise me… my Thorny Princess."

Tears fell freely down Yor's face.

"It's up to you now."

Yor took a step back. "What is this…" Another step back. "Don't look at me! DON'T LOOK AT ME, LOID! PLEASE!"

"Steel your nerve and do what's necessary!" Loid grunted. "You can't keep us safe by being soft!"

"Hah…" Yor closed her eyes. She gripped her knife tight and shifted her feet. "HAAAAAAAH!"

She threw her knife straight at Loid's face as strong as she could. Loid stayed still and kept his eyes open, staring straight at Yor.

Shing!

Thunk!

Thump!

Yor slowly opened her eyes after hearing the knife land.

It didn't even hit Loid. It hit the tree behind him, cutting off a branch that fell to the ground.

Yor's hand shook, her fingers twitching after throwing the knife. 'W-what… I missed…?'

"What's wrong?" Loid shouted. "Aim carefully!" He stared unflinchingly at Yor's shaky eyes. "You haven't killed me yet."

Yor's stance quivered. Slowly, she fell to her knees, looking down at the ground. She covered her face with her eyes. "…Can't do it…" She wept with no restraint. "How could I kill you?!"

"I d-don't want to live without you…" Yor said between tears. "After all we've been through… No… I can't imagine a world where we won't see each other again! I'M USELESS! I CAN'T DO ANYTHING ANYMORE!"

Yor continued to weep. Loid looked down at his fake wife.

"Then we're the same, Yor." Loid said as he gazed at Yor. She lowered her hands and dared herself to look at her fake husband.

"L-Loid…"

"That means… we're not weapons like Westalis or Ostania said." Loid said. "Getting caught up with feelings… showing concern for people other than our factions… Thinking it's just a lie that we can discard easily…"

"Hmph." Loid let out a breath. "Forget about being a spy… I wasn't even a man yet."

"…L-Look at me…" Yor gasped. "Talking about killing you to spare the torture…" She sank deeper into herself. "I'm so… fucking… pathetic."

"Me too…" Loid trailed off. "But we can't run from our lies forever."

"Loid..!" Yor looked at him hopefully. "You've got contacts, right?" She started to stand up. "Maybe we can run away, find a place-!"

"Yor." Loid silenced her. "Forget about tonight. I'll forget all of this too."

"…Huh?"

Loid sighed. "I've got to go." Loid walked past Yor and back to their car.

"W-wait! Where are you going?!" Yor turned as Loid went past her.

Loid stopped, back towards her. "Back to Berlint." He said in an even tone. "There's still threats I need to stop there."

"You can't, Loid!" Yor begged. "They'll kill you for sure!"

"No… this is the only way out." Loid denied. "I want to see you and Anya live happily… but I won't deny the present any longer."

"Loid...!" Yor closed her eyes. "Please-!"

"Yor… let me do what I have to do." Loid declared. He reached for the car's handle, in doing so turning to face Yor.

Yor slowly opened her eyes as she heard the door open. She took note of how Loid looked. Disheveled, distressed, destroyed, yet clearly still holding on to something.

A tear went down Loid's face as he too looked at Yor. "Yor… You and I end here. From now on… You're no wife of mine."

"H-huh?!" Loid was shocked. "Wait- Loid, please!"

"I don't want you having anything to do with me." Loid said. He looked away. "…You always deserved someone better."

Loid wordlessly entered the car and started it back up. He drove out of the forest entrance, leaving Yor all alone.

"Tch-!" Yor clenched her fist. "Hngh-!" She felt tears flow down once more. She looked up to the sky, anguish taking over her.

"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!"

Watched Yakuza 0's Kiryu-Nishiki scene, and then I had the idea that led to this scene.

Possible two-shot? I dunno, probably just gonna keep it one-shot for now.

Thanks for reading!
