A/N:

Something that doesn't get touched upon in Doc McStuffins, is what happens when a child passes away. I understand why they don't do it because they don't wanna traumatise little kids. But, I wanted to get the toy's perspective on what it would be like when their kid can't play with them anymore because they passed away. And, honestly, there's not that many sir Kirby centric episodes. I feel like he's just in the background as a supporting role rather than an actual character. But this episode/story I hope to change that. Yeah, I know, sir Kirby is Donnie's toy, but This is a non-Canon alternate universe where sir Kirby is Avery's toy (because girls can play with those types of toys too! There's nothing wrong with it)

Enjoy.

In The Hugs and Smiles Children's Hospital.

It was a busy day in the hospital. Doctors and nurses ran frantically around the maze of a building. Attending to all types of children. Some of them were having surgery. Some of them were sick and needed to spend a few nights in the hospital. Some of them, like Avery Heart, a girl that has been diagnosed with stage four cancer, and was very sick. She was in a hospital room all by herself, to make sure that she didn't get anyone else sick.

Avery was very bright. She was a very smart six-year-old girl, who understood what most of the treatment they did on her was going to try and do. But sadly, the treatment didn't work. Only making Avery more sick instead of getting her better. But she always had her favourite knight in shining armour by her side.

His name was Sir Kirby. He was given to Avery when she was four years old, as she was a huge fan of playing Princess, but she wasn't really interested in the actual princesses rather being the hero to save them. Sir Kirby quickly became Avery's go to toy When she would have to go for treatment to see if the cancer would be able to go away, and like always, Sir Kirby was always with Avery protecting her like a brave knight always does. Sir Kirby would always protect Princess Avery.

Recently, Avery hadn't been playing with him. Sir Kirby was worried. Avery always played with him. But sir Kirby knew Avery was very sick and needed to rest. "Do not fear M'lady Avery, I shall keep you safe..." Kirby told her, standing guard over her.

Hours later, Kirby was resting peacefully by his princess, she was clinging to him and had fallen back asleep, landing Kirby on her chest right next to her heartbeat. The knight could hear how slow her heartbeat was. It Used to be a strong, very healthy heartbeat. Stronger than his noble steed. But now, it was the opposite, it was slow, very very slow.

3 days later.

The next time sir Kirby was brought to life, he wasn't in the hospital anymore. Instead, he was in someone else's room, the room was pink, with a pink carpet, pink bed with dots on the covers. This was most certainly not Avery's room.

"Avery?" Kirby asked in confusion. Next thing he knew a girl was kneeling in front of him. "Hi Sir Kirby... I'm Doc, Doc McStuffins. Doctor to stuffed animals and toys. Welcome to my room."

Sir Kirby was confused. Where was Avery? He started to get worried. His princess was in trouble! Sir Kirby needed to save her. So, sir Kirby bolted for the door, but Doc stopped him. " Sir Kirby? Where are you going?" Doc asked frantically, picking the knight up. Sir Kirby was shaking. Doc held him calmly in her arms, rocking him slowly until he calmed down.

"Where is Avery..?" Kirby asked nervously. Kirby watched the girl frown, before going over to her bed and sitting on it with him. "Oh, Sir Kirby... "She said sympathetically. "I have something to tell you... "She said, taking a deep breath. In all her years of being a toy doctor, Doc McStuffins never thought she would have to say this to a toy.

"Sir Kirby... Avery passed away..." Doc told him, waiting a couple moments for Kirby to understand, or ask her a question about it. The knight in shining armour looked confused, looking around for his owner. But he didn't see her. "What ever do you mean?" Kirby asked in confusion. Doc Continued. " passed away means, Avery died... Which means, she's not here anymore..." Doc told him. Kirby's eyes widened, as a few tears escaped. Avery wasn't here anymore...

"Will I... see her again? "Kirby asked hopefully. He watched the doctor frown. "No..." she replied, a few tears of her own falling.

"No?" Kirby asks. The girl in front of him shakes her head. "I'm afraid not... "She says. Kirby leaves her lap, sitting in the corner by himself. She walks over to him, kneeling on her knees. Kirby turned around, the little girl could see the tears in his eyes. "Would you like a hug, Sir Kirby?" She softly asks.

Kirby nodded, going to the girl who immediately picked him up and held him closely. Kirby started to cry as the doctor shushed him. "Shhhh, shhhh, it's okay sir Kirby." Doc comforted, kissing his nose as he continued to cry.

After a few minutes, the doctor spoke up. "Y'know Sir Kirby? I know how you feel. My mom told me what happened to Avery, and I was sad too." Doc told him. Then, a blue dragon came closer to them. "Hey Doc, how ya feeling?" The blue Dragon asked.

Doc giggled. "I'm feeling a little better, Stuffy, thanks for asking. This is Sir Kirby. He belonged to the girl that passed away. Mom told me that Avery wanted me to have him, so that he would go to a loving kid. But first, we need to take you to the clinic Sir Kirby, so that we can give you a check up." Doc told the knight.

Sir Kirby nodded. He'd had plenty of checkups before, even saw Avery had to get them regularly. Stuffy and Doc left her room, closing the door behind her as she walked downstairs, to see her little brother Donnie playing with Ricardo And Globo.

"Oh hey Doc!" Donnie says excitedly. Donnie notices the knight in his older sister's hand, running up to it. "Hey, isn't that your friend Avery's toy? Why do you have it? Is it broken, are you going to fix it for her?" Donnie asked.

Doc sighed. "No Donnie, Avery passed away, remember? Mom gave it to me from Avery, but, maybe once I've made sure he isn't broken, would you like to play with him with me? We can get Lambie and play princess with her and Sir Kirby." Doc suggested.

Donnie nodded eagerly at the idea. "Okay Doc! That would be awesome!" Donnie cheered, continuing to play with Ricardo and Globo.

Once outside, the toys came back to started to talk to the knight, he wasn't interested in talking right now. So, Sir Kirby just nodded, as he couldn't stop thinking about Avery. He missed her. He missed her so much, they used to go on Great adventures together, and now he couldn't do that with her. That made him feel angry.

When they arrived at the clinic, Doc uses her magical stethoscope to bring her friends to life. They all laugh as the magic of the stethoscopes world around them. Bella the ballerina prances over to the human girl and the other toys. "Bonjour Doc!" Bella greeted happily. "Hi Bella, hi everyone. We have a new patient. This is Sir Kirby." Doc introduced to the toys, as she places him down onto the floor as he smiles shyly, greeting everyone with a royal bow. " hello my Royal friends, it is I, Sir Kirby." He says, as he turns to the doctor who picks him up again, guiding him to the clinic back room, where Hallie was already with the doctors tools. Hiya Sugar! I'm nurse Hallie, and I'm gonna be your nurse!" She says, making a chart for the newest McStuffins member.

Doc started to give sir Kirby his checkup, making sure he was happy and healthy. After her examination, she sits on the clinical bed with him, noticing him look out the window. "Are you okay Sir Kirby? As your doctor, it's important for you to tell me what's going on. "She says. This made him cry. Doc held him, calling her expert cuddler. The white lamb came in on fours jumping up onto the clinical bed, sitting next to Sir Kirby and Doc. The knight climbs into the lamb's lap, allowing himself to be cuddled by her as he cried, missing his kid. "What happened Doc? Hallie asked, getting a tissue for him.

Doc sighed sadly. " Avery passed away, Hallie." Doc sighed.

Lambie gasped. "The girl that had cancer who you used to visit sometimes?" She asked.

Doc nodded, looking at a picture of her and Avery together. Sir Kirby looked at the picture sombrely, touching the picture as he felt his heart break. "I think I have a diagnosis for you two," Hallie says. Getting the big book of boo-boos. "You have a bad case of 'I miss you-atosis.'" Hallie continues, drawing a picture in the Big book a boo-boos.

The knight links up in confusion at Hallie. "I say, is there a cure for such thing?"

The nurse looks confused as well. "I'm not sure." She said. Then, Bronty came in the room. "Oh oh! I know! I know! Maybe you could draw a picture of your friend, then, whenever you miss her, you can look at the picture and remember them." Doc smiled softly. "That's a great idea Bronty, Sir Kirby, do you have a picture of you and Avery together?" Doc asked.

Sir Kirby nodded, pulling out a necklace that had a picture of him and his little girl Avery. He smiled at the picture, his thumb gliding over the image softly. Stuffy gets a tiny Picture frame, and they put the picture of Avery and Sir Kirby inside. He smiled sadly at the picture, hugging it close to himself.

Doc proceeds to sing to him.

"When the one that you love feels so far away. Just close your eyes, try to picture their face."

As the toys sing with her, a angel stands in front of Sir Kirby, dancing like a ballerina. The knight proceeds to dance too with the angel as the toys continue to sing.

"Beneath the night sky you can see the same stars

Send your lullaby to wherever they are

When the one that you love feels so far away

No matter what it will be okay

All you have to do

When you're feeling blue." Doc sings, looking at the picture of her and Avery.

The angel that was Avery smiled, beginning to fade away.

"Close my eyes and picture you…" Sir Kirby sang softly, looking at the picture of himself and Avery again.

The toys gather around for a group hug, the knight in shining armour and Doc in the centre of it. Sir Kirby finally felt in love again, it wasn't with Avery, but that was okay. Avery was still with him in his heart, him and the doctor shared a hug just the two of them. "Thank you Doc, I miss Avery ever so, But with you, I know I can find a great family do you love me just as much as Avery once did." Doc smiled. "You're , I believe we promised my brother we would play with you and Lambie together." Doc said as Lambie jumped into her arms.

Doc arrived in Donnie's room, as he was playing with Teddy B. Doc comes in further into the room, closing the door behind her. "Hi Donnie! Ready to play with Sir Kirby and Lambie?" Donnie smiles, throwing his teddy bear to the side, and joining his sister on the play mat in his room. She gave him Sir Kirby, as she held Lambie. Together, Doc and her brother played together with Lambie and Sir Kirby, as Avery in her angel form watched them. Avery smiled as she watched them, have you got her knight in shining armour was still making kids smile just as much as he did for her.

Just like a brave knight should.
