So I got a request to lay out the characters and their Encanto counterparts. This isa Sun and Moon fic, so don't expect other characters, sorry, but its really the only games I'm familiar enough with.
Okay, Moon: Mirabel, Lusimine: Abuela, Hau: Camilo, Acerola: Dolores, Harper and Sarah: Antonio, Lana: Luisa, Lillie: Isabella, Mallow: Pepa, Moon's mother: Julieta, unknownbutyou'veprobablyguessed: Bruno. I think that's everyone, now on with the story!
Surface Pressure
Moon tossed around in her bed that night, unable to sleep. Casita and the miracle were in danger, she knew it. But no one believed her.
How had no one seen it? Surely they'd hea—
Moon bolted upright.
Acerola!
"Acerola, hey!" Moon said, running to catch up with the older girl. "You know you're my favourite cousin, I feel like I can talk to you about anything, do you know you can talk to me about anything? Like, about the problem with the magic last night that nobody seemed to worry about, that maybe you heard about, that maybe I should know about."
Acerola said nothing until Mallow walked past them, and said, "Camilo, stop pretending you're Dolores so you can have seconds! You know Julieta and I are strict about that."
Hau morphed into himself.
"Eh. Worth a shot."
"Really?" Moon said, glaring at Hau, who grinned.
"The only one worried about the magic is you," came a whispering voice in her ear. "And the Pokémon talking in the walls," Acerola said. "Oh! And Luisa. I heard her eye twitching all night. Hm!"
"I'm not freaking out about the magic," Lana interjected, setting down the table she'd been carrying. Casita pushed chairs around it so that everyone could sit and eat.
"Everyone, time to eat. Come, come," Lusimine said from the doorway. The Madrigal's took their place at the table, holding plates of food that Mallow and Julieta had prepared. "It's a wonderful day today, with two new Gifts. Harper and Sarah, I'm sure we'll find a way to put your blessings to good use."
Lusimine stood up and moved over to her daughter.
"Now, about Mariano's proposal to Lillie," she said, patting the girl on her head. "Dolores, do we have a date?"
Acerola cocked her head. "Tonight," she paused. "He wants five babies."
Lusimine clapped her hand together as Lillie's hair sprouted flowers an embarrassed shade of pink.
"Wonderful! This'll be perfect for the encanto," Lusimine concluded as Hau shape-shifted into Mariano and pretended to wait for a kiss from Lillie, who threw flowers in his face. Hau sneezed back into himself, breaking into laughter.
After breakfast, Moon chased down Lana.
"Lana! Wait!" she called as Lana set down the church in a new location. She ignored Moon.
"Luisa! The Mudbrays got out again!" said someone.
"On it!" Lana responded, marching over to one Mudbray.
"Luisa, can you reroute the river?"
"Will do!" she said as she picked up a couple Mudbrays, kicking a building back in place in the process.
"Luisa, my house is leaning to the side—oh. Huh."
"Lana! If you know what's hurting the magic—Lana!" Moon tried. "Just tell what's bothering you!"
"Nothing, just got a lot of chores!" Lana said, throwing a Mudbray onto the steadily growing pile she was balancing on her shoulders.
"Lana, please! If you know what's hurting the magic and it gets worse cause you eon't tell me—"
"NOTHING'S WRONG!" Lana yelled, turning to Moon abruptly. Moon blinked, startled. "Whoa, sorry, that, err, that slipped out there. What I meant was, nothing's wrong, why would anything be wrong. The magic's fine, the family's fine, Luisa's fine. I'm totally not nervous."
"Um, you're eye… it's doing the thing—"
"I'm the strong one
"I'm not nervous
"I'm as tough as the crust of the Earth is," Lana insisted.
Are you… singing? Moon thought. "Um, okay?" she said.
"I move mountains
"I move churches
"And I glow cause I know what my worth is."
"Course, I mean…" Moon trailed off, not sure what to say.
"I don't ask how hard the work is
"Got a rough, indestructible surface," Lana sang as she sent flying a couple large rocks with her hips.
"Diamonds and platinum, I find 'em, I flatten 'em
"I take what I'm handed, I break what's demanded, but
"Under the surface
"I feel berserk as a tightrope walker in a three-ring circus
"Under the surface
"Was Hercules ever like "Yo, I don't wanna fight Cerberus?"
"Under the surface
"I'm pretty sure I'm worthless
"If I can't be of service
"A flaw or a crack
"The straw in the stack
"That breaks the camel's back
"What breaks the camel's back
"It's pressure like a drip, drip, drip that'll never stop, whoa
"Pressure that'll tip, tip, tip till you just go pop, whoa
"Give it to your sister, your sister's older
"Give her all the heavy things we can't shoulder
"Who am I if I can't run with the ball
"If I fall to
"Pressure like a grip, grip, grip, and it won't let go, whoa
"Pressure like a tick, tick, tick till it's ready to blow, whoa
"Give it to your sister, your sister's stronger
"See if she can hang on a little longer
"Who am I if I can't carry it all
"If I falter
"Under the surface
"I hide my nerves and it worsens, I worry something is gonna hurt us
"Under the surface
"The ship doesn't swerve as it heard how big the iceberg is
"Under the surface
"I think about my purpose
"Can I somehow preserve this?
"Line up the dominoes
"A light wind blows
"You try to stop it tumbling
"But on and on it goes
"But wait
"If I could shake the crushing weight of expectations
"Would that free some room up for joy?
"Or relaxation, or simple pleasure?
"Instead we measure this growing pressure
"Keeps growing, keep going
"Cause all we know is
"Pressure like a drip, drip, drip that'll never stop, woah
"Pressure that'll tip, tip, tip till you just go pop, woah
"Give it to your sister, it doesn't hurt and
"See if she can handle every family burden
"Watch as she buckles and bends but never breaks
"No mistakes, just
"Pressure like a grip, grip, grip, and it won't let go, woah
"Pressure like a tick, tick, tick till it's ready to blow, woah
"Give it to your sister and never wonder
"If the same pressure would've pulled you under
"Who am I if I don't have what it takes?
"No cracks, no breaks
"No mistakes
"No pressure!"
Lana's chest heaved as she finished. Moon threw her arms around her.
"I think you're carrying way too mu—eeraggh!" Moon gasped as the ridiculously strong girl pulled her into a tight embrace.
"Maybe I overdo it…" Lana admitted.
"…Yep…" Moon managed.
"There is something you should know," she continued. "Last night, when you saw the cracks, I felt… weak!"
"What, what, what?!"
"Luisa, the Mudbray!" yelled someone.
"On it!" Lana called, setting Moon down.
"What do you mean, Lana? What does it mean?" Moon rushed.
"Not sure," Lana replied, pulling her Mudbray stack back together. "But I heard the grown-ups once, they said that before Bruno left, he had some terrible vision about it."
"Bruno… what was in his vision?"
"Don't know. They never found it. I've got to go, Moon. Seeya," Lana said, turning away.
"Bruno…" Moon murmured. "I guess I should start with his tower."
