Author's Note: This is a fanfic set after "Girl Meets Hollyworld", canon with my Series fics. Just watched it today lol. It's from Katy's POV. It is only a ONESHOT.
I was sitting at home, reading the script D.W. Preminger gave me after the audition today, when I heard a knock at the door. Maya is staying at Riley's, and Shawn is coming back from his shoot tomorrow. I got up off of the couch and walked to the door. I opened it and Bobbie Jo was standing there.
"Hey, Katy Grace," she said.
She was using her real accent.
I took a breath.
"Hey, Bobbie Jo," I said. "How ya doin'?"
"I'm doin' alright," she said. "Is it alright if we talk?"
"Sure," I answered. I let her in and she sat on the couch. "Want some coffee?"
"Sure," she said.
I got us both one from the pot I brewed tonight. I sat down next to her after handing her the coffee.
"So what do you want to talk about?"
"I'm sorry that I never came around," she said.
"You're busy with your career with the fake name you came up with when we were 14," I said.
"I'm glad that I took French in Freshman year," she said. "But my career wasn't the only reason I haven't come around."
"What other reason was there?"
"Katy Carmela…" She told me. I looked at her with surprise, as I hadn't heard her name from anyone's mouth in 8 years. "I heard about Anthony taking off with her, and every year that I never saw you post about her on social media, I knew you never got her back."
"I could have used you, then," I told her.
"I couldn't bring myself to come here and not see my Goddaughter," she told me. "I'm sorry, Katy, I know it was selfish. I was only thinking of myself. I can't imagine how you've felt all these years."
"I've missed her every day," I stated. Tears formed in my eyes. "She's 17 now…if she's even still alive."
"Something tells me she is," she told me. "Does Maya remember her?"
"Not at all," I replied. "It's been almost 12 years, but she started forgetting her when she was 4."
"Do you know where she is?"
"In Austin, Texas," I said, "at least she was when she was 9, but that was 8 years ago; I wouldn't put it passed him to go somewhere else."
"I'm really sorry, Katy," she said. "I wish you had her with you."
"Me too," I told her, "but maybe something I inadvertently taught Maya is true: hope is for suckers."
"No, it's not," Bobbie Jo told me. "You might see her again someday."
"I don't even know if she remembers me," I admitted. "Like I said, it's almost been 12 years."
"I remember the last time I saw her, when she was 3," Bobbie Jo reminisced. "She already had a sharp mind. I doubt she'd forget you."
"Thanks," I said. "Would you maybe want to start over?"
"I'd love that, Katy Grace," she said. "I gotta say, I like your new best friend." I let out a small laugh. "She's very smart."
"Well, she's a lawyer, so I'd hope so," I said.
"Well, I gotta go," she told me. "I'll try to visit soon." She stood up. "Here's my number." She handed me a card. "Tell me how filming your first movie goes." She walked to the door. "And tell me when Katy Carmela comes around."
I smiled.
"Bye, Bobbie Jo."
"Bye, Katy Grace," she said.
She walked out of my apartment. I closed the door behind her. I opened the locket around my neck and looked at a picture of me and my eldest daughter from 12 years ago. I closed it. I held it close to my chest.
"I love you, Katy Carmela," I whispered. Then, I directed my next words to God. "Please let me know she is safe…Please let me see her again."
The End
